Florete
I don't think this has been tried yet, but correct me if I'm wrong (I hope not because then I wouldn't be special). I originally thought of doing a boss-kill draft, but it ended up being too similar to normal. Then this idea popped into my head. Be sure to read the rules... Feel free to offer suggestions or ask for clarification. The nature of this game combined with drafting makes this idea tough to work out perfectly. Ruleset (new stuff in bold): Drafting: 1. This draft is for 7 players. 2. Ike, Micaiah, Sothe, Geoffrey, the Herons, the Black Knight, and Lehran are free for all to use. 3. The drafting order is reversed for the last round of picks. 4. Haar is banned from drafting. 5. The game will be played on Normal Mode. Rules: 1. Undrafted units may recruit characters, Rescue and Shove/Smite undrafted characters and NPCs, trade, Escape/Arrive, and transfer items/skills between teams. 2. Undrafted units may not do anything not listed above, including but not limited to meatshielding, building Supports, opening Doors and Chests, finding hidden items, and giving Blood Tide/Night Tide/White Pool bonuses. 3. Allied and Other units may do as they please without penalty. 4. Defend chapters count the last played Player Phase for turns if the timer is waited out. 5. Every enemy on any given map must be defeated before the map is cleared (Reinforcements that appear count, but players do not have to wait for every reinforcement to appear). -5b. Survive/Defend maps that are waited out are exempt from the above rule, however, if the map is ever cleared of enemies, the turns in which it took to clear them may be used as the final count. Ex: If every enemy in 2-P is cleared within 6 turns, 6 will be your recorded turn count instead of 9. Any reinforcements that may come later do not affect this. -5c. 3-6, 3-12, and 3-E are exempt from this rule. -5d. In 1-1, no reinforcements need to be defeated. In 3-7, 3-13, and 4-E-3, only generic enemies need to be defeated. Penalties: 1. Undrafted units have a 4 turn penalty, per unit per chapter (1-6 counts as 2 chapters, and 4-E counts as 5 chapters). Exceptions (That damn part 2): 1. One of Edward or Nolan is free for each of 1-P, 1-1 and 1-2. 2. One undrafted unit may be used for free in 1-3. 3. Volug is free in 1-5 only to be attacked without retaliating. 4. Haar and one other undrafted unit are free for 2-P. 5. Nephenee and Brom are free for 2-1. 6. Two undrafted, non-Lucia units are free for 2-2. 7. One undrafted unit is free for 2-3. 8. Haar is free and Elincia may heal freely for 2-E. 9. One undrafted, 7 move unit is free for 3-1. 10. One undrafted, 6 move unit is free for 3-3. 11. Two undrafted units are free for 3-9, however, the unit used for free in 2-3 may not be one of these units. Teams: 1. Red Fox of Fire - Titania, Ilyana, Marcia, Naesala, Heather, Meg, Ranulf, Volke, Kurthnaga. 286 turns 2. Aere - Nolan, Mia, Janaff, Tibarn, Laura, Caineghis, Tauroneo, Renning, Oliver. 3. Ice Sage - Jill, Elincia, Ulki, Calill, Skrimir, Rolf, Giffca, Nasir, Gareth. 4. Xander - Edward, Nailah, Nealuchi, Shinon, Rhys, Lethe, Danved, Mist, Ena. 5. PKL - Boyd, Zihark, Tanith, Leonardo, Kieran, Brom, Muarim, Lyre, Bastian. 6. Serious Bananas - Oscar, Aran, Soren, Mordecai, Lucia, Sanaki, Makalov, Kyza, Stefan. 7. CR-S01 - Volug, Nephenee, Gatrie, Sigrun, Tormod, Astrid, Fiona, Vika, Pelleas. 333 turns [spoiler=Units remaining]~ My log: [spoiler=Part 1: 77 turns]1-P: 5/5 Normal stuff. Unit Level HP Str Mag Skl Spd Lck Def Res Support Heather Base 2-2: 10/28Lethe and Nephenee were chosen as my free units, Nephenee partially for the Str/Spd level she'd gotten. Neph took north and eventually got the reinforcements. Heather and Lethe took the middle with Leanne and Lucia helping to block Leanne off. I really took advantage of those free undrafted units...Heather got a couple levels, though. Killing the Generals at the end was a pain because Heather couldn't hurt them at all and Lethe couldn't do much, either, so it became a matter of chipping them down until Neph was finally able to join them and get things cleaned up carefully on the last turn. Unit Level HP Str Mag Skl Spd Lck Def Res Support Heather 10 34 16 10 24 27 17 11 15 2-3: 10/38Could have been 9, but that would be too luck-reliant on the allies. Makalov was my free unit. We kind of just all charged for the first few turns. Marcia eventually gravitated left to get the Horseslayer dude and avoid the Crossbows. Makalov went right. Geoffrey helped him out a bit before getting to the boss as Marcia flew around dodging arrows and getting amazing level ups. The allies handled all the mid-west enemies. Unit Level HP Str Mag Skl Spd Lck Def Res Support Marcia 8 36 19 7 19 22 13 19 16 Geoffrey 16 38 24 8 24 20 19 18 16 2-E: 15/53This is not an easy map to route. Marcia and Heather west, Haar and (eventually) Geoffrey east. Leanne and Elincia helped out the girls first, but went to the guys around the time Geoffrey appeared. Not a whole lot of rhyme or reason to this one otherwise. Marcia and Heather kept getting Str for some reason. I gave Heather the Energy Drop when I got it, but then she just rammed the cap. Feels pointless to rig levels when they turn out so good anyway (they both could have gotten more Def, though). Not that I rig levels often. And a few wtfs: So many enemies were pacifist. They'd just run up and not attack. I don't think I've ever seen that in this map before and it was really annoying, may have even cost me a turn. Second, there was a Halberdier who had 18 Spd displayed but 17 functioning; 21 Spd Geoffrey and Haar doubled him and his avoid calculated accurately for 17. I didn't think 7 turns could actually be done with just Titania and Ike, although Titania getting Spd in time for the final Generals definitely helped (and she crit-killed the boss with the Killer Axe). I was a little worried because the Bishop was still there, but another Laguz got him before Skrimir moved, so there was no one left and Skrimir Arrived. He and Ike killed stuff in the middish and northish areas, Shinon taking out stuff over the wall to aid Ike. Titania went east and then up north to get that stationary Halberdier. There may have been a bit of crit luck, but I didn't actually reset for any. The two reinforcements were killed by Shinon and Lethe, who could 2RKO for me to eliminate extra need for a crit from Shinon. No Seraph Robe. Titania loves getting Spd, but just doesn't want to get that last point of Str. The map wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Titania solo'd north while the other three went south. Ilyana and Heather stayed in the south-ish area while Ike took the boss area. Titania helped with a few enemies nearby before getting the northern reinforcements and then getting back to the southeast area to help clear up. Ilyana drew in the boss at the end for a kill. This was the first first-try in a while. Literally 0 resets for this. Titania, Ike, and Ranulf stormed west, Ilyana and Heather east. We just...well, killed stuff until we were at the end. With optimization I could see this being 8 turns since I actually had everyone dead by then, but it's not a big deal. I even got all the hidden items. Oh yeah, Ilyana can use Meteor (I've been having her use Fire), and it helped here. Ah, the one unit for whom weapon levels are actually worth noting. But basically, Ike handled the left alone and forever. Titania started right, did some stuff in the middle, then went right again for the General reinforcements. Ilyana, Heather, and Reyson stayed in the middle area. Heather got the Energy Drop and Ilyana got the boss kill with a Wrath crit. So here's what I discovered about the boss: get close enough and he'll attack. If you're 3-4 spaces away, he should retreat to where he was. If you're closer, he should run. If you countered and hurt him, he will not attack you again unless you leave a unit right next to him; he seems to keep running otherwise. Also, he seems to attack before reinforcement enemies, but before the three guys that start near him, so if they're gone, you can count on him to attack last (only really matters for this type of draft, though). Not a very complicated map. Grassed Reyson so he could be refreshing four asap and moved onward. Recruited Jill so she could trade the Master Crown and Ilyana promoted mid-map on her way left. Heather went right to get that one darn Wind Sage and Ike and Ranulf kept south-middle area down. Obviously, Titania did not do much. Titania started east while the others went south. Ilyana and Heather broke off east while Ranulf and Ike continued south, and at that point things just got weird. I stoned Reyson so he was transformed the whole map, and as a result everyone kind of went everywhere. Ranulf went south to solo and handled the reinforcements that come at the starting point. He was halfshifted for all of it except the very first turn where he needed to be transformed to kill the 3 Generals, and then the last enemy phase where I had to have him pop another Laguz Stone because one of the Paladin spawns has a lot of Def. Heather and Ilyana went west with Reyson. They eventually split off with Heather south and Ilyana west. Heather had a Silver Knife forge that was +5 Mt with an additional card +3 Mt bonus, so that helped a lot for Generals and such. Ilyana mostly handled the boss area herself. Ironically, Micaiah ended up the same as she was for the previous chapter, Sothe never actually changed at all, and Naesala got back one of his originally free skills (for the chance at killing a Sage). Micaiah charged for Stefan and took out all enemies in that general area, even using Valaura where needed. Marcia went into the south-eastish area and eventually right to clean up some guys Naesala didn't get. Naesala and Sothe stormed the middle, Naesala taking the bulk while Sothe got some guys too slow to keep up with Naesala. Black Knight only got one enemy. Got Baselard, Stefan, and Laguz Gem. Specific tricks for this are to get someone to all 4 of his teleport points so you can either kill him or make him teleport again. Another is that he doesn't seem to want to do anything unless he's on one of said spaces, and so if you Shove him, he'll always teleport. This is noteworthy because otherwise he'll never teleport twice in a row, even if someone is right next to him. It's funny. Shoving was my last ditch effort to see if something would change before resetting the map. I didn't think it would do anything, but Izuka just Rewarped himself one space to the left I sent Ilyana to the south west, Heather and Ranulf to middle/north west, and Volke to east with Geoffrey running around killing stuff. By a stroke of luck I even got the Ashera Icon with Reyson. Hetzel was out by turn 2 and I was able to get Titania to Lekain's square equipped with a Hammer to finish the job by turn 3. I suped up Kurthnaga, too, so he's fighting. 4-E-2: 3/42 Important skills: Ike - Nihil Kurthnaga - Pass, Celerity Shot Levail with Meteor from Ilyana, then used Rafiel to get Kurthnaga to the vacant spot, then grabbed Rafiel up and got him to safety. Kurthnaga killed everything that came to him. Titania killed the Warriors at the right and whoever was there killed or weakened the Swordmasters and a few stray Halberdiers. On the 2nd turn I got Kurth out of there because 6 SM reinforcements, yeah. I used Rafiel to get Ranulf, Marcia, and Naesala down there to kill the remaining Bishop and two Snipers and then be able to double and kill the SMs. Everyone else packed over at the left to await the Warrior reinforcements on the finishing turn. With a perfect team, 2 turns is probably possible, but I would have needed too much luck to have enough people near the bottom to kill off the 6 Swordmasters while having most/all of the initial enemies dead after the first enemy phase. So 3. It's actually kind of amazing how few characters could pull off what Kurthnaga did, because they would need 55 atk at 1-2 range to kill all the Generals. If I hadn't prepared Kurthnaga, I'd have needed to get the Wishblade over to Geoffrey and have him do it. Yeah, two units people are normally ignoring by this point in a draft are the only ones who were able to help me get this map done so fast. 4-E-3: 4/46 Important skills: Rafiel - Celerity I'd almost forgotten what killing these things is actually like. I had to really learn when who and what moves to form a good strategy and use my 1-2 rangers (Ilyana, Marcia, Ike, and Meg) accordingly. Everyone helped here. A key factor in killing Dheg when I did was allowing Ilyana to take a hit from him on turn 3 to deal a chunk back, get healed by Micaiah and attack again, then get refreshed by Rafiel and finish him after Naesala did the bit of extra necessary damage. This freed up everyone else to kill the remaining dragons, since 4 reinforcements come on turn 4. Oh, I did kill Gareth. Ilyana shows no mercy with Rexbolt. 4-E-4: 2/48 This is actually pretty easy as long as you can position your units well to kill as many of the Spirits around Sephiran as possible on enemy phase. 4-E-5: 2/50 Important skills: Micaiah - Celerity Kurthnaga - Nihil Naesala - Nihil Titania - Pass Ranulf - Parity Ilyana - Nihil Volke - Nihil When I got all 3 Spirits and 4 Auras down on the first turn, I knew I needed to try for 2 turns, and voila. The reason is that I can't do as much on the first turn: Ranulf needs to transform, there are three Spirits instead of two and they're far away, and I generally just need to make sure everyone has enough health to survive Ashera's AOE attack (which they did). Micaiah had Celerity so she could go one more space such that she could attack the bottom left Aura, then Sothe would take Rexaura from her and kill the Wind Spirirt, then Lehran could take Rexaura and attack the Aura. Titania had Pass to reach the far Fire Spirit and kill it with Brave Axe. Naesala + Volke could kill a Wardwood Aura and Lehran + Parity!Ranulf could kill a Cover Aura. I used these facts to my advantage. By the end I think I only had one action to spare. Fun fact: Lehran + Ilyana took a Cover Aura down to 1 health. And this was Ilyana with her +2 atk Heather support. Final turn count: 286 Kill counts: Ike - 164 (2nd) Micaiah - 120 Sothe - 158 (3rd) Titania - 250 (1st) Ilyana - 154 (4th) Marcia - 118 Naesala - 66 Heather - 134 Meg - 152 (5th) Ranulf - 80 Volke - 17 Kurthnaga - 25 Geoffrey - 61 Lehran - 0 This was a fun draft, but would I do it again? Not sure. It was quite a commitment, more than the usual draft, and caused quite some frustration at times. Paperblade
What happens if you accidentally complete a level's goal before routing (ie Ike crits the BK with Ragnell in 4-E-2 or something like that)? Do you have to just start the level over?
Florete
Start the level over unless there's a map where routing before normally beating it is impossible or nearly impossible (like 3-6, etc.). I don't think I missed any, though. Ike can run back and forth with BK for as long as you want, so that shouldn't be a problem. Battle Saves will probably be your friend in some situations. EDIT: Just thought of 3-2. I can make a unit free for drawing out the boss so the enemies in his immediate range can be cleared, or if we don't want that headache we can just say that every enemy that can't be killed without drawing him out doesn't count. Or everyone could potentially just suck it up and handle it... EDIT2: I made 1-1 an exception due its turn limit, reinforcements, and severely limited unit numbers, but what does everyone think of requiring all enemies initially on the map to be cleared (aka reinforcements don't count)? FINAL EDIT: Should it maybe be 6 instead of 7 drafters? Edited August 27, 2012 by Red Fox of Fire

charlie_
3. Volug is free in 1-5 only to be attacked without retaliating. Uh, he can't unequip so this kind of sucks. I'd just make him free or ban him.
Florete
I realized that, but it can at least still be useful for letting ranged enemies attack him in a bad spot. I don't want to make him free since he actually can potentially cut turns due to rule 5b.
charlie_
I'd just suggest a ban. It adds more value to him as he's sort of lost some due to 1-2 range being more important. Even though his offense is good.
Florete
I wouldn't be against a flat-out ban. I made the exception since the map can still be played out normally and it might be tough to keep him out of range of everyone. I'd like to see what others think. Also, I changed 1-1 to just not count reinforcements since no one seemed to mind, but I'm still unsure about 3-2. Forcing everyone to draw out the boss so we can kill the enemies in his range before him seems overly frustrating to me. Also, other than the Volug thing, I haven't had any comments on the new exceptions. I mean, I know I'm awesome, and if it's just that everyone thinks what I came up with is good, I can accept that, but if anyone does have any suggestions, they need to come as fast as possible. PKL
Suggestion: Make 3-P an exception, maybe? Since Skrimir is seizing before we rout the map is possible and is not in our control. Anyway, I'm picking Boyd. Only on the basis that he has a lot more chance to ORKO enemies over oscar :P

Florete
Suggestion: Make 3-P an exception, maybe? Since Skrimir is seizing before we rout the map is possible and is not in our control. I considered that, but I found out in the original Haar draft that Skrimir will actually kill an enemy over Arriving. It's uncommon, which is probably why people don't tend to know about it (and it's uncommon since all the enemies are usually already gone anyway). Anything not in that area really should be cleared before you get there.
