This is an Actually Pretty Okay Game, that I think my partner likes more than I do. REGARDLESS, the translation patch's later stages makes this 100% worth playing and viewing. If you're bored of the gameplay, bored of the commentary, bored of everything, wait until the later 20s, where the plot will get AMAZING VERY QUICKLY. I won't reveal who my partner is (except i will: it's mr. blockovich) but he'll be doing the EVEN NUMBERED MAPS while I have the ODD starting RIGHT GODDAMN NOW- [spoiler=pictures] you cried a little TIARINGUSAAGA or something close enough I can't even read the stuff on top of it. Enjoy the plot. First thing to notice: note how a country is named Lieve. This will change in this update. This happens a lot through the game, including instances where a character's name in their introductory text will conflict with their portrait. \o/ (yes, it's a beta patch. yes, i will be mean about it.) Second thing to notice: remember how the kid you'll see in a minute was called Ryunan in the last screen? Yeah. NEW DOOD: HOLMES holmes is a fucking butthole and the general quality of the translation of his lines makes him even more insufferable. I'll go over his actual gameplay-related stuff when he actually shows up. (note: i hate holmes) Runan is our HERO and is sort of bland. He has some good moments, though. HERE is the first namedrop to EUGEN EUGEN is LITERALLY PERFECT as a character. He will feature very prominently in almost all of my updates, because he rules. holmes is a butthole holmes is so random THIS is EUGEN BOW before HIS BEARD Between scenes, this screen shows up sometimes. It zooms DRAMATICALLY IN on wherever you're supposed to be, scene ensues, then it sometimes (often) repeats. Sometimes, it repeats a lot of times. TRS has really long and really fucking boring interludes. This is Garo. Garo is pretty great. note: at this point i have been playing for many minutes and haven't actually started the game with fast-forward active Kate shows up! Kate is kind of a prude, and she stops being relevant after like I think she's already irrelevant. SASHAAAA arrives I will gush about SASHA a lot later, but for now I wanted to share this portrait that I don't think ever occurs again in the game. The interface is kinda clunky but not wretched, and it does have some neat stuff. But first, DOODS: NEW DOOD: RUNAN /Ryunan/Ronan. I'll probably call him Ronan most of the time. He's not bad, overall, but he's not amazing. Obviously, we're forced to deploy him in every not Holmes map, so we'll use him. NEW DOOD: ARKIS Arkis is a womanizer and frankly, as far as actual characters go, he's pretty fucking awesome. HOWEVER, I still haven't forgiven him for NOT ROLLING DEFENSE UNTIL LEVEL 17 IN THE DRAFT statistically he's a cavalier, with all that entails he's the fast one, i think NEW DOOD: KREISS Kreiss is the serious one who hits harder than Arkis. Also, I don't hate him as a unit yet, probably because I've never used him. NEW DOOD: GARO GARO is like pretty good, and he's around the whole game. I like him. My opinions on about 3/4 of the units in this game are between invalid and wrong, though. Back to Ronan to outline the niceties of the stats screen: Everything here is pretty standard. Talents outlines skills. Page 2 outlines characters the character can talk to, if you're boring like Ronan ... ... and if you're somebody else it outlines who you get support bonuses from, and how you promote. Promotion items are split, like GBA FE. This screen lets you see the historical growth of all of your stats individually. I like it a lot. The red line denotes the unit's current level cap, which raises when you promote. Incidentally, promotion works like FE4, where you make progress towards a final level and promotion is just a strict stats gain. It does raise the level cap, though: NORMAL UNIT: Level cap is 20. When you promote, it increases to 20 past your current level. You can promote anytime past level 10. PROMOTED UNIT: Level cap is a flat 30. There are also stat boosters that raise the level cap, to a maximum of 40 for any unit. ANYWAY KILL COUNT SCREEN I love the kill count screen. You get tiny bonuses for every 10 kills on a certain terrain, with a certain weapon, and against a certain enemy. Ronan kills 10 monsters on the plains with his sword? Ronan gets +1% hit (and crit iirc) against monsters, +1% against anything while he's on the plains, and +1% against anything as long as he's using a sword. I love the kill count screen. this screen is pointless but i took pictures of all the other ones and i didn't want it to feel lonely NEXT MOST IMPORTANT THING: Making a good purple is hard as hell in this game. Enemies finally show up on Turn 2. This game isn't quick to wind up. One of them is the pimpliest, gooniest motherfucker ever. He's a recurring guy. EXPLANATION TIMES There are some other types of items that aren't weapons that act passively: SHIELDS reduce physical damage by a flat amount. Sometimes, they're lifesavers. CHARMS are pretty rare but any unit that dies with a charm equipped has the death nullified and the charm breaks. Also one of the generic villager faces is this guy and he's hilarious. This game has a fucking lot of dialogue and it's all at the "it's kinda generic and not badly enough written to be amazing yet" stage. Also MAP 1 is shit and makes you wait for the drawbridge to go down on like Turn 4. I don't know why, but I hate it. fuck you kate just fuck you After this screen, I remember to turn on "show attack distance". Yes, this is an option. I have no idea why you would ever turn it off. Ronan talks to Sasha just to have Eugen tell him not to talk to Sasha. Or something. NEW DOOD: SASHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA Sasha is the best unit in TRS. NEW DOOD: KATE Kate is sort of shit, and also she goes away for something stupid like 30 chapters in the middle of the game. I missed this screenshot like 9 times because I'm a fucking moron, so don't mind the LOADED STATE shit. I hope it doesn't break your immersion. The battle sprites are ...realistesque. Not displeasing, really. dat hair Sasha is sort of shit without massive excess feeding. That's why God invented chipping! oops fuck welp Kreiss has a bout with the ACTUAL boss, who isn't the pimply goony motherfucker. MOON PRISM POWER Garo hits damn hard, even at 2-range. He never changes niche. This is why I love Garo. Kreiss levels up killing somebody. Note that Weapon Level is a stat in this game, that goes up with levels, and it influences what weapons you can use. Like FE3, I think, but I never played FE3. Ronan's level sucks, but he doesn't take shit from the boss. Eugen is on point. Note that canonically the last time the two met was like 10 years ago, and Eugen recognizes Sasha from when she was like 5. Eugen is so amazing. Also Sasha comes way down the line from Kiefer Sutherland. Sasha's mom is modestly hot and spends the first part of the game sassing Pimply McFuck. Raffin arrives! We'll recruit him soon! Remember Lieve, from the intro? I told you to remember it. Esther is always holding her arm out like that. Incidentally, I'll take an aside to say that Esther is one of my rare moments of unmitigated praise for the translation patch. The directly romanized named was Estelle, and Esther is just strictly better in every way. \o/ raffin is modestly great FINALLY we get to the world map. You ALMOST ALWAYS return to the world map between maps. Sometimes you don't. Usually ending a chapter causes a lot of dialogue to happen on the world map, moving anywhere causes a lot of dialogue to happen on the world map, and starting a chapter causes a lot of dialogue to happen on the world map. TRS has too many fucking words. Seafighter, City Fighter, Forest Fighter, etc. They give extra movement and combat stats on whatever map type that's relevant. DIO EXPLAIN PLS Essentially it works like in FE4 where if a weapon is used to kill fifty enemies, it will start to gain critical as shown right here. However, after fifty more kills, there's a 50% chance the weapon will be cursed and work like a Devil weapon, which will be shown with a red star. If there's a blue star, nothing really happens, but the critical bonus maxes out at 50 in either case. She can become a second flier, with Elite even. Just be careful when you promote her so that she doesn't miss any important skills. Hard as hell to train, though, but feed her kills. Buying that Hammer is a good idea because nobody can reliably ORKO armours and tanks without it. There's Armorslayer, but you'll want a Hammer for Zeke. "I can't even cut butter with my sword!" Titania can't compete with those promotion bonuses. New dude : Mahter Fairly standard first flyer. She's useful, she's pretty but she doesn't do much damage. The support bonus from Mel makes him dangerous but there's a workaround. She 4HKOes Enteh! The black swordsman is followed by his black screen of death. Narron is so badass he OHKOes Archers with a Hand Lance. For a dude who is all offense, this is a neat level up to heave. SPEED UP One could say Armors got nerfed a lot by having their movement reduced to 3, but nothing beats Thieves going from 6 to 4. At least it makes villages easier to save. Shin level \o/ Curved sword get. Enemy bowgun users are so bad that my own double them. The sword handling in this game is atrocious for some classes. The merc's fingers did not dodge. The Church of Scientology! totally fair oh shit phew He's a shitty reaper if he doesn't kill you. Lying to Vega is a bad idea. His first girlfriend never lived to tell the tale. smooth Shiva X Leidric X Street Fighter yadda yadda yadda It doesn't matter that he's level 12, he still gets experience like a fresh faced level 1 recruit. Not like that even helps him. I can't help but think she's passing gas on this. Where's that Ichieval. Kodder's infamous drunken sex tax. Shit no wonder Luca sucks so much. He can't even outrun, outwit and defeat a bunch of drunken dudes. You'd think a few of them would've tried to get it on with her. "It is your duty to make me a gamebreaker." It can miss, though, so not everybody in the cross gets nailed. This happens later. The sum strategy for this chapter is literally GO UP. The green dudes are modestly competent. His movement is low and his power is rather lacking when he's not using his personnal tome, a direct ripoff of Excalibur, making him more like Marich than Asvel. Among other magicians we have : Lee, who can use staves on top of decent base combat stats, but low growths and no skills. Meriah, who has a personnal AoE spell that attacks THE ENTIRE SCREEN (can only be used on turns ending with 5 or 0, and it only has 7 uses). The light magic she starts with is also effectve against monsters. Alicia, who has a lighter Daim Thunder type of spell. Sierra, who can rewarp at will and attack on the same turn, making her 3 Movement irrelevent. And finally Rishel, who has a 1-3 range, effective vs. monsters, +10 Defense tome. I had to rely on him for a chapter because reasons and that chapter was a fucking RNG clusterfuck that I hope to never repeat. Thank Christ that chapter's an even one. Have ats, Dio.
