Sakurai on Miiverse: Happy New Year! Pic of the day. There will be trophies in the 3DS and Wii U games, and each version will boast different types and models. The 3DS trophies will be mainly from handhelds and the Wii U version will feature trophies from the home-console games.

Which means there will be probably over a 1000 trophies overall if each game has around the number Brawl did.

Also going back to the poll for a moment. The support for a 2nd Sonic character is surprisingly decent.

As people know I am a huge Sonic fan. But I'd never ask for a 2nd character. While Knuckles, Tails, Shadow, Eggman or Blaze would be cool to see in smash style. I doubt that will happen no matter how close Nintendo and Sega are these days not to mention I'd rather a Sakura Wars character if Sega indeed did get a second

Although it was up to Nintendo to include Sonic this time as Sega stated in A Lost World interview I pasted pages and pages before Sonics confirmed return. So if Sakurai wanted another I suppose it isn't out of the very vast realm of possibility. But the backlash would be tremendous. Then again if Rosalina splits opinions then almost anyone new will

I'm starting to dislike there being so many exclusive things between the two versions... I know it's not a huge deal especially since characters are not one of them, but I always liked having stuff from handheld and home consoles together. Does this mean NO Awakening stuff on the Wii U version, for example? And NO Tellius on the 3DS? I can understand there are limits with the 3DS but the Wii U should be able to hold much more information. Maybe they should have just stuck to making one game... :/

Sakurai originally wanted to make one game. He was pushed into the two we have now. They have to jam them both with lots of stuff to make up for it

I dont think its due to space limitations. This gives handheld games a greater chance to shine. I think the Wars series has had a total of 1 trophy in Brawl and Melee. 12 games. 1 trophy. Considering how integral handhelds have been to Nintendo's success, I think it's long overdue. I can see us getting trophies for each of the GBA lords for example.

I dont really remind if they are reused models. If it's a trophy to commemorate their role in history, it makes sense that they appear in their most historically relevant form.

I should think so. It may not be 100% true (as proven with Pokemon X/Y), but it's been true for quite a lot of newcomers like Toon Link, Sonic, and Zelda.

And you're right about the next Nintendo game release being the 3DS Kirby game (check the NIWA News section of the main page). Specifically, it's January 11 in Japan. Sakurai's prioritizing Japanese release dates over release dates from other countries, so we're probably getting a Kirby reveal of sorts this Friday (since the site isn't updated on Saturdays). It'll probably be King Dedede, since he's confirmed to play a big part in the plot and Meta Knight hasn't been confirmed to be in the game to my knowledge.

King Dedede. Is quite likely, as Metaknight as fan favorite he is caused quite the stir in brawl his hate base grew.

Also the release date theory has been on for more then just those three.

Villager and Megaman were even around releases. New Leaf and VC for Megaman. Then Pikmin 3 got us Olimar, Dream Team. Luigi, Mario 1 anniversary then got us Peach.

There have been breaks in this theory of mine namely Wii Fit Trainer, Marth and Rosalina. But I'm still gonna go with it

New Super Luigi U got us Luigi. Its hard copy release was August, which was the month Luigi was shown. :P

Also, since we didn't get a Pokemon character when X/Y came out, the release theory isn't totally accurate anymore. We can't really predict who Sakurai will show us next.

X/Y you have a fair point but I then point to Zelda near after A Link Between Worlds came around, I am not trying to say I know Sakurai 100%. I have been wrong in quite a number of cases but this theory seems to be at least 70% or so accurate.

I like trying to figure out who will be shown. Heck I guessed all but 3 of brawls newcomers. Granted I haven't been near so fortunate this time but its fun.

Zelda wasn't that near ALBW.

However, the way I look at it, X/Y and ALBW didn't really need the publicity that a Smash Bros. character would bring, especially since the 3DS finally started selling well in 2013. Nintendo is desperate to sell the Wii U, and you may notice that most of the revealed characters were shown around the time of a Wii U release relevant to them.

Even Rosalina was a hidden character in Super Mario 3d World, which was released around the time of her reveal.
