This way the audience can relate to him(and not at all self insert themselves as him). Second, he is surrounded by five to six beautiful women that want him. He can't pick any because he doesn't want to hurt the other's feelings(and not because if he does you'll lose the shipper fans which makes up 50% of the fan base) .Third some supernatural event is occurring and he is the only one that can stop it ....BUT he wants to live a normal life and thus conflict. You might want to add the fact that the guy tends to be oblivious to the girls who like him. Also add in a few fanservice scenes in which the main character is an accidental pervert.
