I used a desktop before and people never got why.

Having a decent desktop first is much better than having a laptop only.

Plus, a desktop can always be upgraded, unlike a laptop.

I game on a family member's laptop all the time.

Well it all depends on the specs; laptops tend to be much weaker than desktops at the same price point.

and it also depends on what kind of games you're planning to play.

filthy casuls

real talk: for casual use a laptop is okay, but if you want to do something heavy on the cpu/gpu laptops have shit cooling and are generally weaker for the same price

personally only go for a laptop if you feel you need to have a computer to carry around

that's odd

was it always like that or did it start after a certain point

always like that

I usually emulate GBA/SNES on the other laptop, since it's pretty powerful.

I see.

I'll look ito desktops, but I can't carry a desktop to places like I need to.

GBA and SNES emulation isn't that hard to do at all; I could do that with my integrated graphics card on my old laptop, along with N64.

If you plan on doing GC/Wii emulation and what not, good luck getting a cheap laptop that can do that.

Really though, desktops are much better overall. Laptops are only really good for their mobility, but even then, would you need to carry one around all the time? it's much more expensive to have laptops over desktops, and laptops are a permanent investment.

Since I may have to carry it to college etc.

Yes mobility is a factor.

Mmm... they don't have a computer lab there or anything?

I just don't want you to make a purchase that you will regret is all.

I made a laptop purchase at first 4 years ago, and I regretted it deeply, because I couldn't game on it like I wanted to, since I didn't have a dedicated graphics card. :/

Yeah, they do, it's just a bother.

I carry my laptop around at least once a week. When I was still in school, that figure was every day. Portability of computing power is a huge draw these days. Don't feel pressured to get a tower if you like the convenience a laptop will afford you.
