Crimsonokami
In part 3 chapter 1 if i'm not wrong u have 2 partners, lyre and lethe. Their quotes when they die show that they retreat but is it the same as an ally's retreat? Meaning they won't die therefore still be a part of story/info but be unusable or since they're just partners i can't control, their retreat differs therefore still allowing their usage? BrightBow
It doesn't matter if they die in this chapter. They will be properly playable later on. So don't worry. It's thankfully not like in PoR, where Lethe or Mordecai dying as allies does in fact mean that they will never be playable.

Generally in FE10 every partner/ally unit with a name (not NPC unit) will return. The only exception is, if a main character dies (for example Tibarn in Part 3, Chapter 11). If this happens, it is an instant Game Over. Edited May 2, 2014 by MisterIceTeaPeach

NinjaMonkey
If he got attacked by a third-tier Dawn Brigade member and they activated their Mastery Skill on him. perhaps.
BrightBow
^ Chapter 11 doesn't even feature Dawn Brigade members. Either way, it's not too difficult for Tibarn to die if you don't pay attention. Punishing the player for thoughtlessly relying on Tibarn is probably the sole reason that Goran is using a Crossbow. Tibarn is likely to die against the boss if his skills fail to activate. Nolan can come up and say hi with Tarvos and Colossus or Zihark with the Brave Sword and Astra.
