Return of the Emblem Chapter Thirteen: Flight

Hoshi nodded in thanks to Shad as she felt the healing magic knitting up her wounds. Seeing one of the pegasus riders hurt by one of Angel's knives, she very carefully formed a small compact ball of dark magic and then sent it flying at the man. The magic slammed into him, knocking him of the pegasus which promptly took advantage of the freedom and flew away, headed towards the distant town. The rider was not so fortunate as the dark magic quickly ended him.

Crumble

It was fortunate that the warning came early, otherwise the incoming bandits would have slammed into them, preventing them from closing the gate before they dealt enough damage to have made the effort pointless. That just left the closest remaining tower to deal with, and then they could pitch in. "I'm going to stay and make sure they don't break through," the guard captain told Doran, "take some of the men and capture that tower. We'll figure out the rest, later."

"We could track down the prisoners," one of the guardsmen offered. Doran was quickly coming to agree with the idea, but didn't say anything, himself.

"Definitely an option," the guard captain nodded, "but first, you need to take that tower. We can't help anyone if we're still taking arrows from them." They could probably attack the nearest ballista directly if they hurried, and that was seemingly like a better idea more and more as time passed, since the mercenaries seemed to be trying to destroy the ballistae instead of simply getting rid of their operators.

Doran and half a dozen guardsmen began rushing toward the southwestern tower. With the nearby ballista distracted by the mercenaries, they wouldn't have to worry about being skewered by a bolt. Before they made it past the ballista, however, they heard a change in the wind. Doran knew it was Sonya, coming in for another run, and so did most of the men with him. What they weren't sure of, was whether or not she was going to take out another tower.

Doran winced as the sound of massive beating wings drew ever closer. Better to err on the side of caution, he decided. "Get down!"

With a resounding crash that demanded the entire fort's attention, Sonya came crashing headfirst through the southwestern tower. Shattered planks and splinters flew everywhere, showering Doran's small team and scattering debris all over the place. Two of the unfortunate archers that were in the tower were thrown over a hundred feet by the crash. The ballisticians further back weren't too happy about all the destruction, but they were focused, and determined to bring down the rampaging dragon. When they saw her coming, they waited, keeping their siege platforms aimed right at the tower. When she plowed through the tower, they waited, keeping their aim steady, and right along her flight path. It wasn't until she began to pull up, again, when she was close enough that the results of their attacks would be completely obvious, that they finally let the bolts fly.

Sonya was struck by both shots simultaneously, but neither of them were life threatening. One lodged firmly in her abdomen, the result of lagging reflex on the part of one of the shooters; the other struck her in the shoulder. Sonya flew over them and kept going, ignoring the pain for the time being. Despite the damage, she was still larger than most adult dragons, and could take more of a beating. She wasn't sure for how long, but with the reduced anti-air power, she thought, hopefully 'enough.'

Healing the Healer Who Healed You

Hoshi was healed, so she could probably manage well enough for the time being. The bandits seemed particularly interested in taking down Nadya, though, and who could blame them? She had quickly become crucial to their impromptu strategy of outlasting the bandits. If she went down, it would be a swift countdown to their utter destruction. The swordsman was leaving Amon alone for the time being, and the sancturan could always be healed shortly. For now, Nadya was in more trouble, being such a popular target.

"Here," Shadrak said as he tried to address the worst of the nomad's injuries. "Keep up the good work." He'd meant what he said, but sorely wished she'd treated his nose, first. It was still killing him.

ENEMY PHASE #8

"The healer," one of the bandits called out, "take out the healer and this is over!" Given how much their enemies were willing to deal with in order to protect their healers, trying to get rid of the nomad woman made sense. They would have preferred capturing her, but given the circumstances, that wasn't feasible.

The pegasus rider got the message and refocused his attention on the nomad, despite his grievances with the rest of the enemies. He'd have to deal with them after she was gone. Then, just as had nearly always happened, the wyvern rider intercepted the attack. No revenge ... and the enemy healer was still standing. The rider cursed the whole situation as he pulled back and got his irritable pegasus moving, again.

"Third time's the charm," the swordsman bit out as he closed in on Eva. The pegasus rider's attack on the nomad wasn't the best opening, but it was one he could at least make some use of. Closing the remaining distance between him and the wyvern walker, he made several quick slashes at her head, forcing her to block them however she could, or fall to him once and for all. "You won't defeat us!"

Jam was getting exhausted. These guys were able to take her spells and still attack everyone. She focused her strength and went after a new target while the other ballistician was trying to blow her out of the battle.

"Missed me!" Jam shouted before coming up behind another ballistician. She kicked a bolt out of his hands as he was loading a shot. This was of course followed up by spell to help further delay the assault.

Apparently the strategy of the enemies was to kill her. This just keeps gettin' better and better. It was tempting to flee at this point, but the odds of outrunning a pegasus knight were slim...healing Eva seemed to be her best bet at the moment.

Eva had expected this to be a one on one, but that was far too wishful thinking, considering just how many enemies they were facing. Not paying attention to the rider at all, too focused on the swordsman, she took the hit directly. The lance didn't penetrate far, but the poison coating it still got in, and that was enough to push her to one knee. That left the swordsman more than enough time to get free strikes in, one of which she managed to get her arm up to take, but the other cut across her face, slicing through her left eye, and knocking her to the ground. With a pained gasp, she struggled to sit up, feeling a pain unlike any she'd felt before, between the gash and the poison. Maybe I was the one who got too cocky...

That was her first thought... But it immediately left, as she felt Nadya's magic running through her again (she'd gotten used to the feeling with how much it had been happening). Still feeling the poison, but feeling more alive than ever, with near all the pain leaving her body, she pushed off the ground and jumped up in an instant. She didn't know how permanent the damage would be to her eye, but for the moment, she couldn't see out of it. She spit whatever blood had trickled into her mouth out and grinned a really wry grin.

"That's my line."

Unpleasant Surprise

Curious. Everyone was attacking a different ballista, now, one considerably further away. Glancing back at the one they'd been after previously, he was starting to see why. The large wind rune was spent, and would have to be prepared for another shot. Everyone else was either too close to take a shot at, or was directly between that ballista and the one the group seemed to be focusing on, now. They could fire, but if they missed, they could wind up taking out one of their own ... and Jamilla in particular had proven to be a difficult target to hit.

"Alright, then," Shadrak mustered up what strength he could and headed over toward the group's new target. By the time he got there, he was ready to do battle, again. With a spell ready to go, he yelled, "Run or die! I don't care which!" Shadrak managed to arc the spell over the equipment itself and struck both of the bandits operating it. The reloader crumbled under the might of the attack, all but dead, while the main operator tried to withstand the spell long enough to get off a shot. He had to kill someone, anyone. They couldn't just be taken out at random like this. Even the dragon was still alive, up there.

Retort

"I'm positive your line involves crying between bouts of vomiting blood," the swordsman retorted. He would rather be dealing with the healer, but with the wyvern walker in the way, that was going to be a problem. He supposed he could keep her distracted while the remaining riders swooped in to deal with the healer and end this stalling once and for all.

"You're so lucky I have to keep our healer safe, or that mouth of yours would've stopped yapping already." As confident as she was that she'd win, Eva was sure it wouldn't actually be easy. When he got in lucky hits, it hurt, and it'd take a lot to catch the tiny bastard with a sword her size. And with her eye out, he was even more dodgy. Stupid depth perception... She was sure if she hit him it'd nearly tear him in two, but hitting him would be the issue. Oh well... Gotta keep Nadya safe. She's the only reason I can keep barking back.

Angelica watched from afar, a grimace adorning her face as the combined magic assault failed to bring the ballista down.

"Can't rest yet, huh?" The adept muttered, firing off a wind spear from her cover, piercing straight through what remained of the firing mechanism, and through the operator's chest, dropping him dead on the spot.

Skirmish

Doran and his team tried to go to the aid of the mercenaries, but just as they reached the edges of that confrontation, the disorganized remains of Carlos' troop came running straight at them. Lacking strong numbers, as well as the defensive shield wall they employed at the gate, they could only form up and cover each other's backs as the attacks came in.

"So much for that idea," Doran hissed as he shot one of the incoming bandits. He wasn't dead, but he wasn't interested in fighting anymore, either.

ENEMY PHASE #9

The healer was covered, again. "Break off," the swordsman called out, realizing they were losing too much ground trying to simply force down the healer. She would have to be opened up first through a mistake on the enemy's part. It was a gamble to let things unfold this way, but they're weren't getting anywhere like this. They kept knocking down their enemies, and then the healer would get them back on their feet before anyone could finish her off. All the while they were losing ballista platforms. That dragon was no closer to dying, and with their anti-air power dwindling all the time, it was only a matter of time before she descended on them and started picking picking them off several at a time.

The pegasus rider broke off as instructed and decided to make a run on one of the other mages. At least this one had his back turned, thought the pegasus rider as he swooped down on Shadrak. The dark mage turned around with just enough time to react, and was only nicked across the arm as the rider passed.

"These damn fliers are so annoying ... but first thing's first," Shadrak told himself as he rose back up to his full height and began preparing another spell, one he hoped he would get to use against one of the ballista.

Aggravated, and simply needing an unaware target to cut down, the swordsman rushed after the wind mage that had distracted their boss earlier. He thought he'd had her, injured and caught unawares, but his first strike was blocked, and so was the second. She was either psychic or he'd been making too much noise in his fatigue. He didn't have much time to mull over the possibilities, considering her rebuttal. She managed to kick him in the throat, which robbed him of the air he needed to recuperate from the sudden burst of activity. He staggered away from her swinging his sword wildly to keep her from closing in on him while he tried to get his bearings.

Well nothing tried to kill her in the last six seconds or so. That was a nice change. Shadrak was hit again, but was a little too close to the pegasus knight so Nadya opted to heal a weary looking Jam instead.

Just when Jam thought she was on her last legs, the team came together and tore the ballista apart. Just like that, they were halfway done with eliminating the threat. Jam felt rejuvenated with the presence of everyone in one place. ...Wait, it was just a healing spell from Nadya. Nonetheless, Jam was ready to ride this out until the end.

"Nice of everyone to show up," Jam said in a joking manner. No time for chat; the enemy was aware of how close they were to victory. The dancer cartwheeled behind the ballistician and blasted him off his post, leaving the team to his toy.

The pegasus rider didn't come back around for his next pass in time to stop Shadrak from unleashing his spell, and so the crew was hit, and the main operator was killed. It was safe to assume the reloading man knew how to operate the ballista as a whole. They had to take him out, too.

And that was a third one down, but the last ballista was still up and running... Angelica darted her eyes between it and the swordsman she had fended off... if she cast quickly, she could land a spell on it before he regained his balance... firing off the wind spear before standing and holding her daggers out defensively, hoping they could get this over with quickly, since it was obvious they knew where she was, now. Or... so she had hoped, but it seemed like every single one of her shots had been just shy of a sure kill, always just slightly off of their mark... had she done something to anger someone important up there? Well, aside from the whole Wrath thing...

Eva stifled a chuckle as Angelica shattered the swordsman's attempt to pacify the mage, getting kicked in the throat and stumbling over. She knew what she had to do, even with all that poison spreading through her veins. It would pass soon enough, and she'd be better... For now, though, it was taking all she had to keep standing on front of Nadya.

Damsels

When Fizza found the tent the prisoners had been herded into, she wasn't surprised to see what had come of the hasty maneuver. There were only two guards looking after the prisoners. One had clearly been strangled to death, the other took longer for Fizza to figure out. He had a sword embedded through his skull, but that might not have been what ultimately killed him, considering the grotesque looking angle his head was now resting at. Some of the female soldiers were untying and unchaining the others.

"I take it you're the help?" one of them asked as she worked on a particularly troublesome knot restraining her fellow pegasus knight's wrists. "Sorry, but we've got this under control."

"No apologies necessary," Fizza smiled, though she really would have preferred killing off their guards, herself, if she was being honest about it. "Just don't make a lot of noise on your way to the stables."

"The stables?" the woman asked. A few others turned their attention toward the conversation. "You don't expect us to fight like this, do you?" the woman asked, looking down at her dress. "I mean ... I could manage, but I'd have to fight on foot. My pegasus was one of the ... compliant ones. I don't blame her, I just wish she didn't have to help them capture other riders."

"You might not have to fight at all," Fizza shrugged, "but if you do, I'll just fetch you a bow or something."

"Who are you, anyway?" another pegasus rider asked, "Are you a mercenary? I can't imagine why a nomad would get involved in something like this, otherwise."

"I'm from Rex-Avaz, actually," Fizza grinned, knowing that was even more surprising than a nomad showing up in these parts. "Former Tide assassin, and part-time vigilante. You can call me Fizza. The rest of my friends are mercenaries, or people trying their hardest not to be and failing miserably."

"I see ..."

"Well, let's get back to it, shall we?" Fizza produced a knife and began cutting them free. Rope was valuable, yes, but they were out of time for the incredibly slow method the pegasus knights were using to free themselves.

Air Support

The ballista platforms were being wrecked one by one, and with only one remaining, one not even focused on anti-air support, Haythem was free to act. So was Sonya. He spared the circling dragon a glance before smiling at Isis. "Ready to help out and get some pay back?" The massive wyvern seemed to understand, and let out a murderous shriek that made it clear she was in as vengeful a mood as her rider. "Right, let's get them good!"

Almost as soon as the third ballista was taken out, Sonya banked back toward the fort. She ignored her injuries for the sake of putting a quick end to the fighting, and set her sights on the northeast tower, one of only two that hadn't been turned to splinters by her vicious charges. The archers saw her coming and were climbing over each other to escape the doomed tower.

"BE FLEEING, CRIMINALS!!!"

ENEMY PHASE #10

Carlos hadn't moved an inch since he'd been tied up and left in the dirt. He'd also been fortunate enough not to be kicked or stepped on in all the chaos that followed. The tide had turned significantly since he fell. The intruders had almost been defeated, almost. It was so close that Carlos would have been willing to bet anything on their eventual defeat ... but now it seemed a smooth and gradual shift had taken place ... and only one of his ballistae were still operational. It wasn't exactly in mint condition, anymore, either. They had injured the dragon, but hadn't taken her out of the fight, which meant once the last of their anti-air power was gone ...

Carlos grinned slightly. "Bad call, I guess. They're good. The 'skotians should have made a deal with them, not me and my people, heheh ...."

The swordsman could finally breathe again, but he was so out of sorts from having nearly passed out, he'd almost forgotten who'd done this to him. He wasn't interested in going after her again just yet, not without some backup. Instead, he decided to try and get the outlying fighters and those still guarding key assets organized. Just as he started off, he felt a huge gust of wind blow past him, and he felt as if he'd smacked into a thick tree root as he started running forward. There weren't any trees inside the fort, and the result of it all was him face planting on the ground. "Gah, the hell?!"

Shadrak wasn't sure why he was going through the effort of aiming his spells so carefully if the others were just going to destroy the equipment along with the ballisticians. The Ursaean guard had specifically requested that they not do that so they could use the equipment themselves at a later time. There was the issue of keeping some of the less trustworthy guardsmen from immediately turning the weapons on Sonya, but they could have cut the ropes and left it at that if they wanted to keep the guardsmen from using them right away. All the musing turned out to be useless, though, possibly even detrimental, as Shadrak didn't realize he was under attack again until the pegasus rider was practically on top of him. Him again, Shadrak thought, hoping against hope that he could somehow avoid the tip of that menacing lance.

"Diiiie," the rider snarled, thrusting his lance a bit too inaccurately. Shadrak managed to duck under it. That wasn't enough. The pegasus itself slammed into him and then trampled him as it passed, leaving Shadrak barely conscious and half curled in the dirt. The rider quickly got his pegasus airborne, again.

The other two pegasus riders were moving in, now, and one of them went after Hoshi. To his dismay, he wasn't able to take down the dark mage outright.

Hoshi growled in frustration as she once again felt the poison from the pegasus rider's lance. Ignoring the flier, she summoned a ball of dark magic and sent it flying at the final ballista. It blasted through the structure and slammed into the man currently manning it. The helper was perhaps slightly more fortunate as instead of facing a death by dark magic eating away at him, he was simply crushed under the ballista as it fell on him. She nodded in satisfaction. That should help finish this battle.

Luther had regained his strength from the Pegasus knight’s earlier attack thanks to Nadya’s healing magic and watched as the last ballista had been destroyed by the tiny druid. The pegasus knight’s friend has also noticed the destruction as well and dived at the mercenary in a last ditch attempt to kill him. “Here’s what I owe your friend from earlier,” the mercenary snarled as the pegasus knight missed his thrust. The rider had no time to process his mistake as his momentum carried him directly into Luther’s blade; killing the man instantly.

Congratulations It's a Rout

That was it, then, Carlos nodded to himself; with the last of the ballista out of commission, they couldn't fend off the dragon. She ought to be landing, shortly. The sound of an exploding tower somewhere behind him and the few splinters that hit him as dozens of others rained down around him let him know he was probably right.

Sonya landed in the center of the fort and let loose a roar that spooked the bandits even more than the pegasi. Not a moment later, Isis swooped down and plucked one of the bandits off of the ground with her massive talons. The bandits nearby didn't even realize she'd gotten someone at first due to the confusion of their fight with the guardsmen. When they saw him screaming and flailing in her grasp, they scattered.

Carlos' expression grew blank as he worked himself up into a seated position. He crossed his legs and tried to get comfortable. Best not to watch all of his work crumble with no dignity whatsoever, he decided.

The swordsman hauled himself to his feet and snarled. It was too late to organize their remaining forces, now. He scanned the battlements, wondering how he should proceed. Retreat wasn't much of an option. He wouldn't make it through the minefield, after all, even if he could use the breach the intruders had. The front gate and the road leading through the gap in the minefield was a long shot, too. He loosed a sigh. He was just about ready to sheath his sword when he finally noticed Carlos, sitting upright over near Sonya. She dwarfed him so immensely it was almost funny. He waved over at Carlos, and got a shrug from the man in return, as well as a glare from Sonya.

"Relax, dragon," the swordsman said, putting his hands up after placing his sword on the ground. "I'm not stupid."

"We've got them on the ropes," Doran called out, abandoning all pretense of defense and pushing into the scattering bandits. He managed to slash one of the unarmored ones across the back, but that was all before they had all moved out of range. While the others with him were starting to cheer, Doran could only smile. It was brief, however, as the prisoners suddenly came to mind. "Urgh, everything out here is under control. Find the prisoners," Doran ordered.

As soon as the guard captain realized that the fort was all but theirs, he ordered his men to open the gate. As they did, a few of those previously locked outside tried to rush through and take them. It was a messy brawl, but they lacked the numbers to overwhelm the guardsmen. Most of them had fled before the gate was ever open when they heard Sonya land. A few more left when Isis flew overhead with an unfortunate soul caught in her talons, realizing that the ballistae were destroyed or unmanned. They didn't have a chance, and the few that stayed behind to fight found that out the hard way.

With the ballistae down, and Sonya coming crashing in, along with Isis, Eva finally let her guard down, just a bit. The poison had passed and she was still all in one piece, save for a damaged eye. But that wasn't the most pressing thing. Eva quickly spun around and spotted Angelica, jogging over to her with a bit of a stumble. "Hey! Hey... You took a big hit out there. Are you gonna be fine to make it to Nadya yourself? I can carry you..." Eva hadn't caught all of it, but it seemed Angelica had taken one of the ballista bolts. Even Eva was unsure if she could've directly taken one of those hits.

While Eva dealt with that, however, Sasha was finally free to land. And he knew exactly where he was going to. He'd been watching a certain swordsman attacking his rider, almost killing her, hurting her, and he was livid. With a screech, not as loud as Isis', but still terrifying, he swooped on and landed a paw on top of the swordsman, knocking him to the ground and holding him there under foot. He was incredibly tempted to crush the fool, but he wouldn't take that pleasure away from his rider.

Observations

"Grrr, it figures the blasted wyverns would come back as soon as the ballista were taken out," the swordsman grunted. "Get off of me!"

There didn't seem to be any immediate danger in tending to her wounds, so Sonya lowered herself into a sitting position and began picking at the bolt in her shoulder with her large claws. The bolts were designed to go in, not come out. She knew that, but she hadn't personally been shot before. Instinct and irritation had taken over. She might not have been shot at all if she had simply wrapped herself in a protective barrier, but such a potent barrier as what she would need to deflect siege bolts would have interfered with the fighting on the ground more forcefully than the wind did, even encumbering her allies as she passed.

She sighed, not because of the stinging pain of the bolts but because of how things had played out. She had done what she felt was right, even directly attacking the bandits despite her commander's orders not to. Now that she was on the ground, and could see the situation up close, she wondered if she had really helped all that much. The mercenaries looked to be in trouble at the time, but ...

"Sonya, isn't it?" Carlos asked. She scowled down at the slightly larger than average, but otherwise tiny human. "The 'skotians aren't here, so I guess you're the only traitor here. What I want to know is what the hell is going on, right now."

"I am ignoring you until you are being clear, Carlos," Sonya turned her snout up from him.

"There's ..." Carlos squinted as he watched the Ursaeans chase his men. "There's three separate groups working, here including you. I'm guessing mercs hired to bolster the ursaeans and take the brunt of the assault. You were the decoy to keep our ballistae distracted. It's really unfair of you people to drop us into a fight cold like this, but I won't complain. I'm just wondering why I'm still alive. The Ursaeans don't seem to be taking prisoners, and what do the mercenaries care if we're alive or dead? You'd think the Ursaeans would at least want some of us around to execute. I guess that's me, since the mercs aren't going to pass up my bounty."

"You are talking awful lot, Carlos ... and ... saying very little that is making sense," Sonya frowned. It was difficult for her to keep up with the man's musings.

Carlos sighed. "I guess I'm just wondering who the hell is in charge here, but it's becoming astoundingly clear that this little alliance of yours is a spur of the moment decision with no thought to the aftermath. Who's getting the bounty on my head? The guards or the mercs? Are you getting a cut or is this more of that 'skotian honor nonsense? Who's keeping all the supplies we brought up here, the Ursaeans or the 'skotians? The mercs? You see why I'm confused about all of this?"

Sonya had to admit, she hadn't thought this far ahead in detail, but she didn't think these minor details would become a serious problem in the end. They got listened well enough to form the alliance, so they should be able to keep it together until their business here was actually concluded. "We are reasonable people. Everything is working out in the end."

"Is that why the mercs destroyed my ballistae? Because the Ursaeans are reasonable enough not to shoot you the first chance they get and earn themselves medals, promotions, and more chances at siring unwanted children than they can handle?" Carlos smirked.

Escaping is Easy

To put it simply, the escape attempt was an unusual and vapid one. It was difficult, perhaps impossible to sneak the small group over to the stables when the tents had become the last remaining refuge for the bandits hoping to find a place to hide. As soon as Fizza and former captives were outside of their tent, bandits came rushing past them. Only one bandit even thought to stop them, but he quickly changed his mind when he realized he wouldn't be able to talk them into submission and ran after his comrades.

"... well ... to the stables, I guess. Be sure to pick up any weapons they dropped if you know how to use them."

"Where's Carlos?" the first one who'd spoken to Fizza asked. It was addressed to no one in particular. "He wouldn't let them run around completely disorganized like this. Did he die in the fighting?"

"Please tell us you killed that man," one of the women behind the first hissed. "He's irredeemable scum and deserves to die a dog's death."

"I wouldn't go that far," the first woman winced, "but he definitely needs to pay for what he's done. He crushed Ursaea's air power, which means we're vulnerable to the empire in this region."

Speak of the devil, a dragon is just beyond this tent ... "Well if he is dead," Fizza said aloud, "I didn't have anything to do with it," she almost shrugged.

Returners

When the wagon was back in sight, Joanna was relieved. She intentionally lagged behind a bit, making certain that Greta and Rolo wouldn't get too small in the distance. With the wagon in plain view, though, that was no longer something she needed to worry over. There were no patrols around or others who might want to take a stab at the pair. Once Joanna landed, she turned to wait for them both to catch up, which only took a few minutes.

Once Greta arrived, she dismounted, and then helped Rolo down from the saddle. "Sorry," she said, narrowly above a whisper, "I'm sorry about all this. Those Wrathites are everywhere. I'm not sure if they're in touch with the ones that are probably chasin' us, but if they are, we might be in even more trouble, now."

"The others aren't back from their mission, yet either."

"That's what I figured," Greta said, placing her hands on her hips. "Well, anyway, this is Rolo. We were talkin' about emblem related stuff when the wrathites caught wind of it and that's what started this whole mess."

The End?

Nadya looked around- seemed like the bandits were dead or running by this point. She decided to heal Shadrak first- he healed her so it only seemed fair...she also wasn't sure what he would drain the life out of if she didn't. Maybe he should keep some rats in his pocket or somethin'...

Return

After landing, Liam looked towards Joanna who seemed to be all right for now. Greta then proceeded to explain the situation.

"That was unwise," he said to Greta simply, though she seemed to recognize her fault at least. "Our group is no place for a child either," he added, his eyes flickering over Rolo briefly.

"Uhn... I think I should be able to manage... besides, if you tried to before your eye gets fixed, you'd probably trip and drop me, anyway." Angelica replied, somewhat shakily getting to her feet. She had managed to staunch the wound, but it was still large, and had been left for a little while to bleed. Stepping forward towards Eva, and catching herself on the rider's arm, Angelica gave Eva an obviously forced smile, before spitting out a gob of blood and saliva to her side.

"Just, uhn... let me use you as a brace, while we're walking..."

"My eye? Oh-- right, shit... Haha, that happened, didn't it?" Eva clued back into the wound, realizing instantly that she couldn't see out of her left eye. She didn't know how bad the damage was, but the gash was still stinging on her face, if she focused on it. So she didn't. She gave Angelica her full support, letting the small woman rest there. The blood gob was less than pleasant to watch, but Eva forced a smile back, leading her slowly along. "Nadya or someone can get you patched up... Look, she's there next to Shad. Hey, Nadya!" Eva shouted, picking up her pace just a little bit, "new patient!"

Sasha did nothing but growl in response to the shouting of the swordsman, leaning his head in real close, very tempted to snap his jaw to quiet the noise... But he didn't at least not yet. It was a very tempting thought, though...
