The Neptunia series basically makes fun of pretty much everything related to gaming and otaku culture. The four main characters, Neptune, Noire, Blanc, and Vert are goddesses, here called CPUs, of four nations: Planeptune, Lastation, Lowee, and Leanbox respectively. Planeptune and Neptune represent the cancelled Sega Neptune. Noire and Lastation represent the Playstation 3. Blanc and Lowee represent the Nintendo Wii. Vert and Leanbox represent the XBox 360. The main games are mainly turn-based JRPGs, but you can move freely around the battlefield on a character's turn. There are plenty of spin-offs that have different styles of gameplay, however, such as Super Neptunia RPG, which is mainly a platformer, and one of two Nep games on the Switch. The other is Megadimension Neptunia VII, which is the seventh mainline entry, and the fourth canonical, being a direct sequel to Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory/Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 3. However, you don't need to have played the other games to understand the plot of MegaNep VII, since the characters will catch you up on things you need to know with incredibly meta dialogue (one character even lampshades it by saying that they always have to assume that there will be newcomers playing the game). And the story is very much self-contained. Gameplay-wise, this game uses the turn-based system I described above.
