See, Malcolm, this is what happens when you don't put on your murdеrface in the morning.

... On this subject, though, I still think that ch1 could do a better job introducing Malcolm as a main character/lord, although I'm not sure what else it could do differently aside from having Vicks and Don mention that they rallied behind Malcolm as a natural leader and everything will go to crap if he dies. The fact that his portrait is pretty plain (aside from the whole "he's a bird, he's a plane... no; he's a Voluprian!" thing) doesn't do him any favors either.

Yeah, this main lord is introduced almost the same as any other generic character. Oh well.

I can't take this hack seriously when it unironically has a puppy as a story-important character...

That said, there's definitely a lot of effort put in. I've always felt that generics had this generic charm about them, but giving them their own portraits is really cool.

To be honest, I'm kind of worried the story's focus on Dewey might shift into "ARMY CANNOT FUNCTION WITHOUT DOG" territory later on, but probably not.

And yeah, it's definitely cool that everyone has a portrait. No more eyeless allied soldiers!

Hello faithful viewers, it's time for...

The PART 1-1 CONCLUSION!

PE0s0Mq.png

This was the level I got from the boss. Meh.

WdH2tIJ.png

Let's save the mayor!

HiFYflN.png

...Is this some sort of demented children's book?

(But seriously, that line's pretty awkward)

y7FkkIG.png

Hollis: I am alright; those cloaked men did not hurt me at all, actually.

IuiCRQk.png

Hey! That's what the boss said!

Malcolm: What did you say..? Red Lustre?

Agalli: Indeed, I’ve seen these insignias all too much in the past. The Red Lustre is a group of roaming extremists. They travel far and wide to impose their beliefs upon the world.

O8YAOmC.png

And so, the CULT OF EVIL is introduced.

L8TzVXo.pngfmZwi87.png

These guys have some pretty sketchy origins.

(But wait, if they wanted to capture Humans, then how come their membership now is mostly Human?)

Agalli: Regardless, they were quite a fearsome group of people… It is said that the Red Lustre rose up in Doldrum. But other sources indicate that they banded together in Viperae…

7lVCzNu.png

yDgMUas.png

Malcolm: Wouldn’t it seem strange if they formed the Red Lustre? I was always told that Humans founded it, and that they folded after their leader was killed…

Of course, Malcolm. No country wants to take the blame for being the base of a terrorist/cultist group. Particularly since they were well-known enough that Malcolm knew about them.

g0wT4CO.png

WHAT? HOW IS HE STILL ALIVE AFTER ALL THIS TIME?

(Okay, that's not what the game said, but we all know where this is going)

Bram: There are rumors all over the place as to where he ran off to.

Agalli: But none of these conjectures hold any consistency; it takes only a cursory investigation to debunk each one. So the fact that the Red Lustre can reappear so quickly is profoundly concerning…

Malcolm: Mayor Hollis, what do you make of this? What do you know about the Red Lustre?

g1O7IC4.pnghvtEahD.png

You'd better start learning, Mayor Hollis! The Red Lustre want the town, for some reason!

Hollis: Perhaps an Easterner would know more about this situation.

djureMI.png

Hollis: here today, as well as this parcel.

FZ7tfpJ.pngoiuGfkE.pngSzUmCvZ.png

Come on, Dewey! Don't be stealing important things!

lKDcCZG.png

Bram: Mayor Hollis?

Dewey: …

Bram: Are you going to give it to me?

Dewey: …

o4zFcog.pngtzpWwos.png

Dewey, being a MAGICAL DOG, decides our next course of action for us!

ia0shdN.png

Pfft, that's nothing for a magical dog!

Dewey title count:

Murderdog

Magical Dog

Hollis: Well, leaving this task to you is certainly a more viable option than sending my messengers. Sir Tempest, if you would be so willing, would you send my message, along with this parcel, to the Duke of Amphret? I will also

p1KrMdi.png

Gift! Yes!

9OtXWaO.png

And our course is set!

Bram: for this gift as well. I’ll put it to good use. Okay,

N42SamN.png

Bram: Oh… I just remembered I didn’t eat dinner…

Come on, Bram! You just fought on an empty stomach! You can accept their hospitality!

Malcolm: Hah! Looks like today’s brought out a mean appetite! Let’s go get pub grub, huh? To celebrate victory!

The others all leave...

woNMI9V.pngJzIwm76.png

Bram: It’s Bram. After I leave for Amphret, I request that you send military forces to Newood village. Its inhabitants are suffering at the hands of criminals.

KnxoZ4u.pngSKXzRTU.png

Wait, how the heck is he supposed to give them knights!? All his troops are dead! He has 3 dudes left, one of which is almost certainly going to be coming with us! Is he supposed to have 1 knight defend Newood and the other defend his town?

Hollis: … Newood is primarily a farming town, but they can barely sustain that. Providing knights to them wouldn’t be-

KQqEuPT.png

Bram: burn and steal their crops. Military support will deter either group and therefore provide a means for Newood’s inhabitants to blossom. Don’t be blind; your people are in dire need of food security.

DVBCZyu.png

And the mayor immediately backs down, and sends the military he doesn't have to defend the hometown zone!

fYbOHJR.pngHFOov3U.png

Yeah, why would a mayor control the military?

Hollis: Departa. *text skip* request. You see, I do want to protect Newood, but Duke Loyis sees the village as nothing more than a useless plot of land. I would be punished if I went against his word.

evHfqyz.png

Bram: While I understand he has the responsibility of military intervention in Newood, you, Mayor Hollis, have a duty to protect your people. Understand?

iPrgOb0.png

Would mercenaries REALLY help?

Hollis: The town guardsmen are already overworked. Maybe I can look into hiring mercenaries instead. Please, keep my gift as thanks for confronting my own ignorance.

Bram: Thank you, Mayor Hollis. I give you my regards.

Bd71JJ3.pngEpENcsj.png

Okay, this whole scene was really coming off as odd, but this really takes the cake. Admittedly, the mayor here is a bit of a jerk and not that smart, but... ah, forget it. THE WORLD BENDS AT THE HERO'S WILL!

QsuJmYQ.png

Hey there, not-generic generics!

Victor: Yeah, I’m really beat… At this point, I think I’m just delaying the inevitable angry encounter with the sweetheart…

Donald: Agreed… Hopefully I do not awaken the wife and kids. Otherwise I will once again fear for my life! Until next time, friend.

Victor: Yeah, see you around!

aQDv0TV.png

MBgGHYz.png

Bram: You’re not still mad, are you?

Dewey: *groan*

Bram: Of course you are… I think it’s time we head out. We have work to do.

Dewey: Ruff.

Jn71GDs.pngmfcFZe5.png

Agalli: most mercenaries lack. But we’re still here. Malcolm, my friends have finally made it.

No compassion? Heroes aren't heroes without compassion!

Wait, his friends?

XoPu9AI.pnglaTKQ6I.png

He's friends with these guys?

Anyways, these definitely aren't generics... our next recruitables?

Malcolm: Hi there! Pleased to meet you both.

Glasses guy: Ditto! So, what even happened today, huh?

Qjpsk5n.pngVdnrJPy.png

Oh, what? Axe arms? Sitting around in a bar? Shouldn't they be in some kind of evil bandit bar? How the heck did they get in here?

Axe arm(?): Yeah!

Axe arm 2#(?): An’ we’re sittin’ around loafin’ n’ talkin’ ‘bout nothing while our brothers git all the fun!

Axe arm(?): Yeah!

NdUTufn.pngfAocS6W.png

Yup, they're gonna go after Bram.

Axe arm: Yeah!

This is all the other guy says.

Axe arm 2#: Boss said, stay here ‘n “strike fear into the hearts of the little men.” Bah! Who needs boss!

Axe arm: Yeah!

Axe arm 2#: Let’s go help boss!

Axe arm: … Uhh, yeah?

PDXseJQ.png

A bunch of weird dudes?

DQle9mN.png

Malcolm: Well, I owe him for helping us.

Agalli: True. We should make haste.

lgnQMLP.png

They literally just left! But then, they did say they were going to join the rest of the bandits.

Alright guys, we're done! Next time, a-

ybCCvpq.png

Oh. Nope, we're not done! This seems a bit early for a VILLAIN CHECKUP, but okay!

usXxIdg.png

Oh, it's in the past? Huh.

nnPvq3E.png

Masked woman: seems efficient.

Shakkar! Is that the name of our Bram-dream-Voice?

Paladin villain: Compared to the others here, Shakkar’s capability is merely satisfactory. However, perhaps he is finally showing his worth? Finally, after years of searching, the escaped son will meet his long-awaited fate.

Masked woman: To think that he would be the one instead of Redahli to find him.

aqaPNPd.png

IT'S IMPORTANT! REMEMBER THAT! SEEKER! IT'S IMPORTANT!

DEFINITELY!

Paladin villain: He is more capable than most, in that sense.

Masked woman: Interesting.

bpiTnwO.png

Masked woman: Hmm?

V6sPtb0.png

I don't get these guys.

Paladin villain: The first attempt to kill him was a failure… and now it will be completed by Shakkar instead, it was almost insulting! Shakkar! I summon you! Come at once!

DZpNAVR.png

Assassin guy...

90SwSAw.pngNK3jNEt.png

Here he is. He's probably part-snake, and he's probably going to be our first major boss.

Paladin villain: It seems that you and Redhali have done well together. One person there, one here. Her last message indicated that killing him may be a difficult task. She requests that you join her.

Shakkar: Mussst I, Master? I would very much not enjoy trekking across the world!

Paladin villain: Save me the banter, Shakkar. Bring men and escort yourself.

iGSGWuo.png

Remember, this was a month ago. We probably just killed those missionaries!

Paladin villain: anyway. Find him and drag him here. Alive or dead.

They're talking about Bram, right?

Shakkar: Yessss… of course, Masssster… the child will be joining you ssoon..

86pbQ97.pngKT616Jl.png

And that's the story of how the villains 100% guaranteed his failure.

Masked woman: But what if they do?

Paladin villain: You should not worry about Redhali. She is Viperian… The average Western mercenary the child has become has no chance to survive one, let alone two of them at once.

NLmq5Ve.png

Masked woman: Yes, Your Highness.

Oh, so the paladin's in charge here! I was kind of expecting it to be the masked lady.

nUvePjm.png

NEXT TIME: The worst green units ever!

This hack has TONS of dialogue, if you didn't figure it out already, so pretty much every part with a lot of dialogue is going to need its on update. Heck, I think there's an entire chapter of literally just dialogue later.

Its just chapter 1. I couldn't really fit a squad of knights somewhere but I'm just gonna say the scope was just scaled down to fit the context for chapter 1.

Hollis: … Newood is primarily a farming town, but they can barely sustain that. Providing knights to them wouldn’t be-

Its not outright 'controlling' the military so much as having a say in how troops could be distributed

Why is it coming off as odd? I see it as a wishy washy mayor of a small town getting a reality check.

Oh, what? Axe arms? Sitting around in a bar? Shouldn't they be in some kind of evil bandit bar? How the heck did they get in here?

~stuff about baddies~

This hack has TONS of dialogue, if you didn't figure it out already, so pretty much every part with a lot of dialogue is going to need its on update. Heck, I think there's an entire chapter of literally just dialogue later.

Just keep in mind that most of the dialogue is packed in talk conversations, which means its optional and can be seen as just additional character development. Don't feel the need to showcase every ounce of dialogue because screen-capping every single scene may burn yourself out.

And yes, there is a cutscene chapter after chapter 2.

looking forward to chapter 2~

sees a new reply after typing the above

i love these portraits for the humans so damn much.

makes me wonder why we can't get unique and awesome portraits for the animals?

Thanks, my team is pretty dope :o

The uniqueness shall come :P

That... was pretty weird.

Thanks for typing your responses! About me finding the scene odd, I don't know, the mayor's dialogue felt really weird.

Hello people!

The PART 1-2 PRELUDE!

qvzhwBh.png

Kind of a weird title. Doesn't really make sense. Whatever.

RxbX3AM.png

Bram: not actually mad, are you? Dewey?

Dewey: Rrrr…

Placate him fast, Bram! You do NOT want the murderdog angry at you!

Bram: I can’t believe this… I can’t even stay friends with a damn Dog…

wHjFizT.pngpUxvsB1.png

Doggy sigh?

w088zO3.png

Bram: underestimate you like that. I promise, next-

KXV7GR6.png

It's hard to see this stuff as cute when you consider all the horrible brutality Dewey regularly inflicts.

Bram: Dewey, enough! Ha! Ha ha!

0MBbEWC.png

Bram: I say? Bark twice.

1RLw64l.png

Magically intelligent! Magically powerful! The best dog ever!

Bram: Ah! That’s amazing… Dewey… I’m sorry. Adopting you was just very sudden for me. I didn’t know how to react, you know? I don’t really know what I’m supposed to do for you. I mean- I’ve always liked you. You and the kids were pleasant to watch over too. But you see, I’ve been on my own for a long time and I’ve kind of gotten used to the silence. But I suppose it hasn’t done much good, eh?

40vF2H8.png

DO NOT SHOW WEAKNESS NEAR THIS DOG

Bram: Let’s keep going. Hey, try to find a stick around here. We can play fetch, or something. Would ya like that?

Dewey: Yap! Yap yap!

uK19Jww.png

Let me just say, the stuff in these woods goes a bit beyond mere pests...

p8sCGgM.png

Hah, hah. Haven't you talked with Agalli, Bram?

GqJbFb3.pngmORfQ62.pngCiSXK5X.png

It could be anything!

FFp6l9r.png

Oh, wait. Dog's mad at it. That narrows it down to "anything EVIL!"

vFN1o4Q.png

And "yeah" bandit can actually say other things!

Bram: Yes.

Axe arm: Ho! He’s here, the Tempest is here! I found ya!

Bram: … … I’d appreciate it if you backed off.

Axe arm: Oh yeah? Well, that ain’t my life. Yer toast, tough man. Hope yer ready for a whoopin’.

fZn7mq8.png

Axe arm: Er? What’s… what’s so funny?

EkZteFa.pngQ6TQnVg.png

Bra, just doesn't give a crap about these stupid bandits. These guys are earlygame trash and he knows it.

Axe arm: Ah… Y-yeah! You’re not tough…

BEJOyrp.png

Bram isn't even a prince of Nation Good, and he strikes fear into the hearts of these guys!

...Well, it could also be murderdog. He's pretty intimidating.

Bram: Do yourself a favor and turn tail. We were having a moment, you know, that you ruined. And that really pisses me off.

Dewey: Rrr… Rrr…

Axe arm: Hngh…

gcxka76.png

Unfortunately, I doubt we're going to be able to skip pounding these bandits that easy.

qpQyKNL.png

MEANWHILE, A VERY SHORT DISTANCE AWAY

8TJK57a.png

W-what!?

It's a FRIGGIN BEAR!!

Is he addressing the fourth wall? I've always been here, bear!

jo7iGLh.png

Oh, no, he's talking to his human friend.

FRIGGIN BEAR: Oh?

Enemy captain: The boy I have been looking for is here. But one of your henchmen was so remarkably stupid that he tried to fight him by himself… Anyway, the Bird is nowhere to be found. I do believe he should be arriving shortly, though.

L0MDorh.pngaH5blde.png

Not sure I get this. At least we know we're in a place called Polloy now.

FRIGGIN BEAR: Are you sure this is the man you’re looking for?

Enemy captain: I am almost certain he is.

FRIGGIN BEAR: Then I shall take my leave. Or…

tpQAXEJ.png

Ah hah hah... murderdog vs murderbear... I kinda have to wonder who'd come out on top?

Enemy captain: Haha! Baylor the Bloodthirsty, acting merciful? You seem to have lost your edge, Gargursan. How interesting…

"Offering to kill enemies=merciful"

Baylor/Gargursan: Boredom becomes your strongest enemy after you kill all the others that. Thus, acting merciful is a result of my boredom.

Enemy captain: Haha, well said… Is this goodbye?

VEqaOMa.png

Baylor/Gargursan: I believe it is for the best that we part ways. But…

NCBVC0t.png

These bears are crazy cool. But really, does EVERY human-animal have some sort of magic power?

mUWutjL.png

Baylor/Gargursan: I have no use for human currency. I assume you understand.

Enemy captain: Yes, but I figured I should have asked. Thank you and farewell then, Bear.

Baylor/Gargursan: Likewise, Leatherskin.

ebiDuSI.png

OD0vQYG.png

Just for a moment, we can see the Bear's map sprite. It kinda looks like he has wings, but those are actually arms.

PQr6nel.png

Bram: It’s like the Axe Arms actually tried to come up with a strategy this time. How… unconventional.

Enemy troops using strategy! Though, it'll backfire in about 3... 2... 1...

Ld9ug6d.png

And thus, the gimmick of this chapter is introduced!

qME5cqV.png

Bram: traveled by such a large group… Dewey, stay close. I’ll protect you. …I didn’t think I would need to use Mayor Hollis’ gift so soon but, better safe than sorry.

vgCLkCy.png

And we have a SLAM PATCH!

a6sU7N8.png

(I wonder when we'll get a convoy?)

I'll explain the new item in a minute.

ZrSUVsJ.pngO6h1Qks.png

You guys can see in this fog? I can't.

Malcolm: Let’s go! There isn’t a moment to spare!

nfHFI7R.png

Malcolm and Agalli join us? Also, remember the dudes from last chapter? They're here too!

czw0PjK.png

Fighter boy: How are we supposed to find anything nice?

Thief boy: You use your eyes, dummy.

Fighter boy: ‘Bi! Call me dumb again to see what happens to ya!

Thief boy: Ah, relax! I’m only kiddin’. Anyways… why are we here again?

a52HT1H.png9wXqwAh.png

I guess they did just come from a bar...

v0IZJWQ.png

Bram! Don't hug Malcolm! THERE'S TOO MUCH FANFICTION POTENTIAL!

FCJONsl.pngM3Wbp1k.pngwbJ2TSR.png6XEJPpy.png

Oh, right. These guys are REALLY special, I'll explain them soon too.

evmzVC9.pngrOZennR.png6LEUNjD.png

The game is thankfully doing it's best to convey the special mechanics to us.

jNF3oYS.pngh2mwtxN.png

Axe arm: Just fight that brat and his pesky Dog and his posse!

Zafw53n.pngpWhYVxQ.png

2yf7eAo.pngKzBS7nj.png

Okay, let's get started! If you didn't get it from the game, I'll explain the Swarms soon.

IUMBH7G.png?1H65P0i8.png?2

gkYxh9P.pngenzvJYH.png?1fF85Cgf.png?1

So, things kinda start out more than a little clustered. Now then, it's time for the SPECIAL SWARM EXPLANATION.

If you look at the map, you'll see that they're technically green units. However, they are unique in that they attack both red AND blue units! The red troops typically prefer to stay away from them, but some will attack the Swarms, like the mercenaries down there in the cutscene. Playing the two sides against each other is pretty important to surviving the first few turns of this crazy chapter!

The only place where the gimmick falters is in the fact that the Swarms still give us vision. Oh well, guess you can only modify the game engine so much. I'd still like to say that this is INCREDIBLY cool, and probably the only place in FE7-hacking where three-sided battles have really been done well.

fZ8rTGq.pngsQlqvec.png

gGtRDig.pngKKpOUh5.pngByCUThu.png

Our new friends are Tyren and Kael. Their stats aren't particularly notable, but at this point I have to use them! They're necessary to survival!

yqwgcEA.png

The bandits are still really weak.

XE0Buq8.pngqTdJjJp.png4DGrYmT.pngOH7fokI.png

The Swarms here are interesting. They have really weak offenses and defenses, but EXTREMELY high speed(they can double Dewey, our fastest team member!). Their attacks also poison, and land fairly often. Thankfully, the poison here is actually SPECIAL poison that only lasts 1-2 turns. Still, it's annoying. We gotta kill these guys!

NEXT TIME: We get swarmed by Swarms!

oh snap this is actually really interesting now.

oh boy swarms seem like a big problem

Yeah, as I said this hack does a lot of cool stuff. Swarms may actually be helpful, if they were just red units this chapter would be basically impossible.

Here's hoping you encounter the glitch!

Glitch? I don't remember encountering any glitch, now I'm curious!

Next chapter in a nutshell:

bees_oprah.gif

Yup, that would just about sum it up.

It's time for...

Bloodlines: Episode 3: Part 1-2: Part 1: BZZZZZZZ

8FWUP0B.png

As you can see, we can attack the "green units". However, they're extremely fast and hard to hit, particularly with an axe!

2lb0aCn.png

So I murder the soldier instead.

s0JmldT.pngUhFXTtL.png

Important note: Fire is super effective against these things! Use it!

7E1szEl.png

My first turn was trying to position myself for survival and clearing the area immediately around us, and Dewey doesn't need to do anything so... let's see if whoever's inside will share their secrets with a dog!

T5gJyfU.pngJSls8lW.png

Apparently, yes! This house is the in-game version of the fire thing I told you earlier. If these swarms didn't have a weakness, I don't imagine it would be possible for any population to reasonably live here...

APzM8C1.png8HyL8qo.png

The Swarm's battle sprite is, well... a swarm of bees! That can actually win in a fight with an adult male! They're friggin VICIOUS!

KivfA9p.png

WHAT THE HECK

SERIOUSLY

AOhoi3k.png

I personally kind of have a fear of bees, so, uh... this isn't happy fun times.

V3q0Fp8.png

Tyren's a thief! They couldn't double him, could they?

78ET8yz.pngMSStz66.png

...Of course they could. They can double everyone on the map, as I said.

Not only that, Tyren here would have survived had it not been for that stupid RNG-blessed bandit!

gqwHnKN.pngU2Z6bhn.png

The mercs fighting the bees down below are doing a pretty good job!

pAaWuW2.png

And, uh... we live this time!

GyhnCJS.png

Second turn! here's how things are looking, the area around us is a bit more clear, but we still have some work to do before things can settle down.

6wR2Eig.pngBIpZJvq.png

Pretty good and pretty good!

uRHmsfl.png

It's nice to see that the enemies are getting affected by the poison just as badly as me.

KDGJiyY.png

The red generics vs BEES thing is having casualties on both sides. If it was just those two going at it, I wonder who would win?

x495Ac4.png

Pfft. Lame.

(Cool dodge animation btw)

JUQECw9.png

MURDERDOG GO

Majapih.pngA9ka5eD.png

I kinda don't like all the XP being wasted, but playing the two sides against each other is SURVIVAL!

883ANfa.pngIMDE4eH.png

Looks like reinforcements have shown up! They're going to go for both green AND blue units, apparently.

RKdYodz.pngOjQwUqE.png

Malcolm: did you do to make these guys so dead-set on killing you?

Bram: You don’t want to know.

Malcolm, I'll tell you what he did: He set MURDERDOG on them.

0NFvWNW.png

What? Recovery already?

OPwrj1l.png

Oh, hey! This is special reduced-length poison, cool! I think it actually stays on the enemies longer than it does us...

VHBdqvD.png

Chop chop! I don't like you, bees! Getting into my house, then lying in ambush on the floor for me to accidentally step on you... I MUST HAVE REVENGE!

XnusX9F.png

Hey, strength! But no speed... this isn't really a thief level, but it's fine.

4WLGaq2.png

KAEL BEST FIGHTE

w2ClU50.png

! indeed! More things show up!

Zes1D8p.png

Malcolm: around those thickets… What’s the plan, Nature Boy?

TWjFDP1.png

Pfft, nah. I MUST KILL THEM ALL!

0LJCm2y.png

Just in case you weren't sure whether or not the bees give vision.

WABYwVL.png

Here's that guy's squad.

a4bS0PE.png7d09XG1.png

Gragan himself is NOT recruitable(far as I know), but he has a diverse inventory. I like the new steel axe sprite!

rz37DYi.pngCLrPXkl.png

Honestly, I don't imagine shooting arrows or swinging an axe into a swarm of bees would work out too well.

LCtPs3j.png

WHOA! I wasn't expecting that much damage! Looks like murderdog has it handled, though!

dvWpOVm.png

Yeah... VICIOUSLY handled!

CyNk87l.png

Attacking at 2 range? FOOL!

LrqEtqq.png

The Swarm's got a huge kill count this chapter. Considering that an organized group has this much trouble against a bunch of bees.. and that people live here... it's kind of terrifying if you think about it.

scXh2UA.png

An event?

GxnNF55.pngjs1CO8Y.pngn5OWaQz.png

He must have caught the scent of more human flesh! Is this a reinforcement hint event?

Dewey: *grumble*

Bram: Looks like he caught a scent of something he likes. Malcolm, any ideas?

Malcolm: Us Voluprians have a bad sense of smell. But he looks dead set on that area way over there.

Bram: Way out there, huh…

tzop3H9.png

Oh, looks like he's found something else... This is a sidequest-thing, along with a lot of others in this chapter. We'll be doing it, don't worry!

rt5v6OL.png

Here's how things are looking. All the reinforcements means we aren't safe yet, and we still don't know how many are hiding over on the left side of the map.

GIGs692.png

Also, the swarms have basically won over here. I'll have to clear them out.

kzYGW6g.png

Boss's cash gotten! I guess this is a good place to end it.

NEXT TIME: What do bees contribute to the world besides pain? And maybe flowers?

Delicious honey.

This person is right.

Bees are OK, since they die when they hit you.

I'm sure the swarms here is actually wasps, because all wasps are absolute bastards.

(And no one posting that "Not the Bees" video ? I'm disappointed.)

The Swarm's battle sprite is, well... a swarm of bees! That can actually win in a fight with an adult male! They're friggin VICIOUS!

Of course they can win in a fight with adult males! Don't you know the true power of (bees/wasps)? It's a mass of hundreds of flying venomous (honey gatherers/predators)! If this game would be more realistic, A) That number of bees wouldn't be present in a populated area, and B) Disregarding point A, everyone would be dead. Super dead. Stung to death like dead dead dead. You think you can fight bees with swords and axes? WRONG! It just goes through the swarm, maybe you knock out a few, but now you've pissed them off! And you die!

(Bees/wasps) are dangerous man.

Don't underestimate them.

Instead....KILL THEM WITH FIRE! Or lightning! Any magic will do! They might be able to dodge swords and axes, but they can't dodge a wall of fire! Or lightning going at 5000 mph!

Chapter 2 is so much better in this version because of these unique acting NPCs.

They're going for the enemies and for your allies.

Though I'm pretty sure that they prioritize the enemy first. If no enemy is in their attack range, they'll go after you.

For sure my favorite chapter of this hack version regarding on map design.

Thanks for the nice words y'all!

I've opened up the hack thread for questions for the Bloodlines Ask Me Anything which is gonna be answered when Bloodlines is up for FEE3. If you have any questions about the game. Don't hesitate to ask there!

Elemental damage against Animals and Djuron is one of the ways to make them weak. Most djuron are pretty tough to beat, so they all have a critical weakness that the player needs to figure out and use to their advantage.

You can also consider Swarms to be their own mix between bees and wasps i guess. Just think giant killer wasps or something lol.

Yeah, you're right. Bees murdering adults is probably more realistic, as compared to being able to kill them with giant swords.

Dewey's bite in particular doesn't make much sense. Maybe he opens REALLY WIDE and swallows them whole.

Yeah, it's important to give enemies weaknesses and flaws so the player has a way to counter them. Though, with all the different Djuron being introduced, it might be difficult to give them all a weakness!

I check to see if there's anything in this village, which may or may not have been burned to the ground by just the bees. Nothing.

fHLCly4.png

Lure them out, Agalli! I'm not sure what hides in the fog, so we've got to advance slowly and carefully.

Okay, let's not skip the houses.

Boy: A Ga-Ga… Gargursan bear! I swear, if I ever saw one coming my way, I would just call it quits for good. There’s no beating one in a fight!

Will we be violating that rule in the future? Probably. In fact, I'd say almost definitely yes.

If these guys want to help me with these stupid bees, I'm not gonna complain.

Oh, hey! We've found the boss! We can't kill him quite yet, though...

He might not seem that tough, but at this point in the game he'll probably take a good deal of effort to drop.

I'm surprised this lady's still alive!

What is this Swarm doing up here? There's no enemies around it, most of the land routes to it are blocked somehow... It seems kind of pointless, really.

I'M GONNA KILL IT ANYWAY

Hmm?

The Serum is just a renamed antitoxin that's still expensive and mostly useless. Not to mention, by the time we have this shop available the chapter is over!

IMO, antitoxins should have been buffed vulneraries. Make them heal AND cure all status effects, then I'd have considered buying them.

Agalli: I was wrong; this man may not lack compassion at all. It’s quite the opposite, I now believe.

Malcolm: Oh, yeah.

ScIFUx0.png

Agalli: While having borderline super-Animalian capabilities, he still has basic Animal tendencies and instincts. Perhaps his youth plays a part in his present cognitive ability. Hmmm…

Dewey's really young? Great, he's gonna grow up into a supermurderdog! If you force animals to kill early in life, it will be all he knows... we'll never be able to stop him from ripping people in half!

See this bee? He was the one in the thickets. So, how did he attack Malcolm with his 3 mov? Simple: He went through our units. These guys are still technically greenies, so they can't be body-blocked by our movements!

The "victory" music wasn't playing, so I combed(ha) the map for enemies. I didn't find any, so I can only assume the victory music doesn't play in this chapter.

Oh, right, I haven't talked about the music in this hack, have I? It's basically all custom music, and a lot of it is really good!

Y9JwQhu.pngDqiVQ1a.png

He's NOT going to kill us?

Kael's engagement goes fine, so let's send Bram to see his quote...

e7dIwC8.png

Enemy soldier: Yes, but only because you’re the one killing all of my men, after all! So Tempest. Tell me, what is your real name?

Bram: Why do you care? It’s not like you’re going to live to tell anyone.

Enemy soldier: Ha! Well then… Please give me the courtesy of granting me my final wish, I beg you.

Bram: Fine, as you wish. Bram.

Enemy soldier: You don’t say… A similar name, but a different fighting style. No, the similarity is uncanny. I found him…

o00MT5m.png

I KNEW Bram had a special past!

Bram: Don’t play games with me. Get ready.

I think Bram missed a few times.

Coming up next is an "Interlude" which an chapter devoted entirely to dialogue. Wasn't there one like it in Road to Ruin? So yeah, next update's gonna be a massive word dump.

There is no "victory is within reach" music change in Bloodlines. Ghast just doesn't like the concept for whatever reason.

Fun fact: only one of the songs in the game is an entirely original composition; the others are remixes of songs from other games. Most of the cutscenes still have vanilla FE7 music, but that's a problem we'll hopefully rectify by the time pt2 is released.

Yeah, you're right. Bees murdering adults is probably more realistic, as compared to being able to kill them with giant swords.

Real bee swarms kill people with infinitely many sting of death! BEWARE THE BEES! Nick Cage knows this.

Dewey's bite in particular doesn't make much sense. Maybe he opens REALLY WIDE and swallows them whole.

I...think that would potentially kill him from internal sting wounds, possibly causing his throat to swell shut.

Girl: bumped into a Swarm hive! I had to book it back home… But before I knew it I was covered in stings… I think I’m going to be sick… Oooh… It’s a good thing I brought some serum… I think I’m going to sleep for the rest of eternity now… G’night…

I'm surprised this lady's still alive!

Rest of eternity, Moniker, she dead. Oh, merciless bees! You horrid beasts of the swarm!

So, Voluprians are weak to bows, Swarms are weak to fire... I'm quite curious as to what the other weaknesses are. The only other Djuron we've had the chance to fight were the mer-people, and we didn't have much to work with then.

I'm going to go ahead and guess those guys are weak to electric magic, since, you know, ionized water is an excellent conductor of electricity. I'm also going to guess that, should wind magic exist in this hack, Voluprians will be weak to that as well as bows, and fire magic will be effective on some other Djuron's, like...bears, maybe. In FE10 fire magic was effective against beasts, that might have been so in FE9 as well.

Y9JwQhu.pngDqiVQ1a.png

For a lowly early game boss, I actually quite like this guy.

... You too? ._. Gotta love run-ins with the big black-and-yellow at a young age completely ruining people's lens on bees for life~

My baby sister got stung by a bee...I'm going to have to see how that turns out.

Bees dies when they sting you (contrary to wasps).

I guess it only amkes them more dangerous (They're the kamikaze of the bug world, who consider humans like moving, organic tower.)

In my family, we're always told to keep our mouths quiet, and stop moving, cause they can enter your mouth (making them hurts you far more), and get agitated (making them more likely to kill you).

So, reallistically, those weapons you agitate in front of them only makes them more likely to concentrate on you, and Dewey's efforts would be either useless, or ending in a horrible and painfull death.

Probably the most dangerous ennemy in this world.

(Unless there is scorpion-spider hybrids, of course)
