Dayni
Better Strength, better Defense, significantly better Speed, and he gets bows once he promotes. This makes him far better in the Arena than Johan could ever be. Alright, those are understandable reasons, especially on those bases (Much as speed is the only one greater than 2). Still prefer Johan, partly because Johalva's growths in speed are atrocious, and all that separates them is 4 base speed and 1 extra gain for Johalva (and 2 extra on cap), when Johan has 5 times the growth. Also, I'll pick Ambush over Charge as skills as personal opinion (Much as it doesn't matter in the arena) As for the other growths, skill is the only other different one, and the gap is smaller (It is in Johalva's favour). (Also, is Johalva just as doomed against Zeus as Johan is? Or do the bows really save him?) I guess it's a difference in opinion.

Ah, but see, that doesn't matter. The Killer Bow and Hero Bows only weigh 3 WT and 8 WT respectively, compared to the Hero Bow's 12 WT. Plus, Johalva gets more speed upon Promotion than Johan does... And yes, Bows really do save Johalva against Zeus. Or more specifically, the Killer Bow gives him the Dodge, Accuracy, and crit chance he needs to eke out a victory (though he does still want the Pursuit Ring). EDIT: A Level 30 Johan does still beat a Level 30 Johan in Speed, but only by 2-3 points. This advantage is then canceled out by the lesser WT of Bows. FionordeQuester
Oh yes, and there's one other reason as well; recruiting Johalva takes less turns, and gets Julia a better weapon. Conquering Isaac gets her Rezire (12 WT, basically Nosferatu), but conquering Sophara gets her Aura (20 WT...bleh).

Conquering Isaac gets her Rezire (12 WT, basically Nosferatu), but conquering Sophara gets her Aura (20 WT...bleh). The tome thing can be gotten around though. The game checks for whichever between Sophara and Isaac is the most recently captured castle. If it's Sophara and Celice talks to Julia, she get's Aura, and if it's Isaac, she gets Rezire. So it's perfectly possible to recruit Johan, let his allied castle be captured (does this decrease castle rank?) to Slayder, and then capture it back for both Johan and Rezire. You can do this too for getting Johalva and Aura, but it takes longer to lead Slayder over, and it's for a worse reward. Getting a castle conquered does decrease the Tactics rank; or at least I think I checked that once. Otherwise, I woulda just Returned all those guys in Chapters 7 and 8 :( ... The Sophara and Isaac are both Blue this time, while they're always 1 Blue and 1 Green every other time. You can get the extra Blue Lenster in Chapter 7 by using the same strategy. Free 1000 extra gold for all units. Edited January 6, 2017 by hanhnn

If so, that allows me to do a strat that I've always wanted to do for Chapter 7! I've never actually do a full ranks run, but I'm pretty sure it is. A ruined castle will decrease your rank, an extra blue castle will increase your rank, a green one won't affect anything since it's neutral. FionordeQuester
Huh...if you never did that for a full rank run, where did you learn that tidbit? How did you guys learn that there even was a "castle rank" to start with (as opposed to a counter that just kept track of how many castles were captured/destroyed no matter what)? Tetragrammaton
According to http://serenesforest.net/genealogy-of-the-holy-war/miscellaneous/rankings/ TacticsDetermined by the total number of Turns used to complete the game. Your rank drops by 1 for each player-controlled castle that is destroyed. I guess more blue castle won't affect Tactics rank that much, but the extra 1000 gold is always nice. FionordeQuester
Huh...looks like you're right! I just did a search on Nico Nico, and sure enough; there's at least one AAAA Rank run that allows Lenster to be captured in Chapter 7. ... Shoot, I'm not gonna have to change my Chapter 5 inheritance scheme AGAIN, am I?
Jotari
(Actually GT Goku can go Super Sayian 3, he just finds it very tiring without his tail and overall it just looks silly) That (somewhat off topic) rant about randomness (or lack there of) in the AI raises some good points. Have you considered making a dedicated forum thread to discuss the topic and get some more opinions on it? I could some people absolutely detesting the idea as it would ruin any chance of making a 100% effective strategy. Having a rank for castle seems like a bit of a waste to me. I mean there's not really many optional castles in the game. You basically are expected to capture all of them. I think maybe the one you recruit Aless with in order to save the dancer is probably skippable and maybe some of the ones in Chapter 9, but overall it seems the game expects you to capture every enemy castle there is (even if the Chapter 9 ones are skippable {which I'm not at all sure they are, I just know you have to do them in an odd order to recruit the characters}, they're laid out in a full line so you'd have to intentionally leave one uncaptured). Some optional castles that are pretty awkward to capture but provide some kind of reward would be nice (and not a reward as large as a Dancer which is basically too good to pass up on. I'm talking things like a Resire tome). I'd also like if the game made more of an effort to recapture/ruin your castles. The way the game and chapters are set up kind of implies it's a wide open tactics affair and the first chapter even encourages you to stick Arden on the home castle but for 99% of the game you basically just move your entire army to the next chapter and conquer it before abandoning it for the next. Thracia and Fury are the only enemies I can think of who ever bother to flank you and take out your home base. FionordeQuester
Hello everyone!  I know I haven't posted in a while, so I just wanted to let you all know what I've been up to.  First of all, School started up again, so that's been affecting the speed at which I work.  Secondly, I've been doing thorough testing of my Gen 2 Route.  Thirdly, I've mapped out the Jealousy tables for all Child characters in Gen 2, so THAT'S exciting.  And finally, I've got a new FE project that I've been cooking up...the Fire Emblem Gaiden Speed Run (Normal Mode, All Characters Survive)! Yes, that's right; I wish to perform a speed run of Gaiden in order to further hype the release of it's remake!  I scoured the darkest depths of the Japanese Internet (which turned out to be a much scarier place than I could have ever imagined...), found the Twitter account of the World Record holder of Normal Mode + All Survival, and ended up getting his notes! I thought I had a pretty good route before, but NOW...now it's something special. So first I'm going to stream the run in 1-2 hour chunks; then I'm going to upload the steams to Youtube (for anyone who can't watch because of Time Zone shenanigans).  I am then going to make a "hybrid thread"; one that has screenshots detailing the important parts of each battle (with commentary of course).  What do you all think? Konnor97
How did you find out about that guy and his run? But yeah that'd be interesting. It would be nice to see Gaiden go at a halfway decent speed.
FionordeQuester
------------------------------------------------------- Nico Live RTA Wiki: http://niconamarta.sakura.ne.jp/ (This site here is a Japanese wiki that lists RTA runs for every kind of game under the sun.  This is the place I go when I can't find any English speedruns of a game I like.  So I found the relevant section on Fire Emblem Gaiden...) http://niconamarta.sakura.ne.jp/ (which led to this guy's homepage on Nico Nico Douga; basically the Japanese equivalent of Youtube, but with a lot of arbitrary restrictions) http://com.nicovideo.jp/community/co2480856 (This guy's page had links to some sort of website where he stored his notes for anyone who knew the proper passcode.  DO NOT CLICK ON ANY OF THEM THOUGH!!  The site contains a lot of very, VERY NSFW, pornographic images that more or less reinforced all the negative stereotypes I've learned about Japan and sexuality.  I tried to download his notes on Gaiden, but did not know the proper passcode.  This...is where my quest almost ended, as I did not want to interact with that site's...contents...any more than I had to.  But, fortunately, I managed to find what seemed to be his Twitter account)... https://twitter.com/aki_yabo (But then it turned out that that was a mere bot.  I don't know WHY the guy set up an automated Twitter account, but, my quest almost ended there as well.  I went on a long and fruitless search for the right passcode to his notes, but, that too went up in smoke.  But then I thought to Tweet one of his FOLLOWERS instead. You see, I happened to take Japanese 1.  I had JUST enough knowledge of Japanese to ask questions that were legible enough to be understood.  So I asked this guy if he knew how to access those notes; he then found the guy's REAL Twitter account, which was found here...) https://twitter.com/natsuyabo (At first, I was going to just ask him any questions I may have had rather than continue pestering him for his notes; it seemed as though he was hesitant about sharing them.  But, then Heulen Wolf went out of his way to find an alternative file hosting site that ALSO had his notes.  I went to the site, and WHAM!  I FINALLY got to download his notes, after a long and frustrating search) ------------------------------------------------------- Rather an odyssey, eh?  Edited February 1, 2017 by FionordeQuester

Konnor97
I believe you hold Start and Select while selecting a new file, and you get the option for easy mode. Easy mode doubles EXP gain and allows infinite free trade between the armies without the need of the traders.

I wonder if they'll keep that as an option for Newcomer in the remake (free trade that is, I doubt they'd double the exp). I'd actually seriously consider using that mode on future runs. Afterall it's not like levelling up is worth that much in Gaiden. Not only are growths super low but you automatically go to the class bases of the new class when promoting so most stat gains are useless in the long term. More exp just slightly reduces the need for grinding.
BluBlaDe
Fe Gaiden run sounds extremely good. The only thing rarer then a Fe 4 Max Rank speedrun and a Fire Emblem Gaiden Speedrun would be a Ultima 2 speedrun.
FionordeQuester
Alright guys, we have now figured out the start time of the Gaiden RTA stream! Â Assuming nothing comes up for me, it will be Thursday 9:00 P.M. (Pacific Standard Time)! Â So for those of you who don't use Pacific Standard Time, be sure to figure out what that means for you (if you're interested). Â Have a nice day everyone, and God bless you! FionordeQuester
Terrible news guys; I got sick.  Because of that, there's a very real possibility that the Gaiden stream won't happen today.  Sorry... If it DOES happen, it'll be at 9:00 P.M. (PST).
FionordeQuester
Well, it's been a while since the last update, so I feel as though I should apologize. Â I tried to get the Gaiden stream to happen, but scheduling shenanigans made it so that none of use could ever find the time. Â I'll still try and see if I can get a full commentated speed run out before Shadows of Valencia comes out, but if not, I'll just upload a series of silent videos for anyone who's still interested. I'm sorry that I've disappeared for so long. Â I've got a habit of doing that, but I'm still not proud of it. Â So, I'll get the next update to this out soon. Â Have a nice day, and God bless you all!
