Episode Sixty One: Viridian Gym

It's finally time to take on the very last gym in the game. All things considered, Kanto's been a rather smooth ride so far. However, Blue will likely be a bigger challenge than all of the other leaders I've faced.

I really wasn't expecting that. I guess it makes sense. This is a ground gym after all.

Just please don't have Ice Beam, or Thunder... or any of the other moves you can have.

In this part, I head to Viridian Forest, where I encounter several powerful trainers. Just because the gyms are all down, that doesn't mean things are getting any easier.

This peaceful image is nothing but lies. This is a terrible place.

Fury's making his return. Boosting the trinity of physical attacks plus ThunderPunch to round things off.

Mikoyan is the new member. Choice Banded ExtremeSpeeds ought to come in handy.

Not a bad encounter. That said, you can catch Scyther in this forest. Oh well.

And you'll enjoy eating dirt, I'm sure.

Episode Sixty Three: The Hunt for Mew

As you saw at the end of the last part, that little punk, Mew, is crawling around. I've got to beat the rest of these forest trainers, and then find that little bastard and let him know the rules... if I survive that long.

I've got a metal bird who doesn't need to worry about recoil. Bring it on.

Yeah. I did some more grinding before taking on the last trainers in the forest. Just a couple levels.

And this time, there won't be any Sludge Bombs.

Here's something I was hoping not to see. The only dragon attack user on my team is a fire type.

Ugh... Kingdra's just so bulky. Good thing I didn't go for Close Combat.

I should've seen this coming.

With hindsight, I realise I should've done that from the start. Oh well, no great loss.

And that's the end of the Viridian Forest mini arc. It's time for me to head over to Mount Silver, fetching some final encounters, and training up my team for the last battle. My team's been tempered by fire, and I think it's reached it's final incarnation.

Episode Sixty Four: The Last Routes

The final battle is almost at hand. If I'm victorious against Red, that will mean I've offically won the nuzlocke. If however, I lose, then all was for nought. In this part, I do some brief exploring around Mount Silver. I'll be getting my final few encounters along the way.

A replacement grass type... but I don't think that matters so much anymore.

And here I am. The delightful Mount Silver... in all its silvery glory.

Oooooh. I like that. I like that a lot.

Seeing this, something occurs to me. None of the Pokemon on my team have mega evolutions. Not that it matters in this gen, but it's just an observation.

It sure is quiet here. I guess that means I'm almost at the top.

Episode Sixty Five: Red

It's the long awaited moment. Sixty five posts in, and it's the final battle. The team's very different than from when I went up against Lance, with Xian being the only remaining member from that team still in tow. Most of the team was hastily thrown together to patch up various losses, but they're a damn good mix. I still don't know whether they'll be enough, but I'm relatively confident things will turn out for the best.

Is that the Vs Seeker I spy. If so, then you've found your challenger!

I figured Pikachu would still be the first out, so I led with Fury for a Scarfed Earthquake.

I know it's nine levels higher, but there's no way a Pikachu can survive a move like this.

Well, I suppose that's his highest level Pokemon out of the way.

That was unexpected. I guess this must be his Gold/Silver team. To be honest, I would've found Lapras an easier match.

Noordzee's got good special defence... but I suspect a critical Psychic won't go down well.

It's good of it to not attack, but that might come back to haunt me.

That two down with little trouble.

I'm almost certain there's nothing a Venusaur can do to a Skarmory.

Yeah. If that's the best it can muster, then I've got nothing to fear.

That's not helping matters though. It's fine, just so long as Sturmovik wakes up quickly.

I spent a bit of time thinking about what the most secure way to beat this Charizard would be, but then I decided to just use the old method.

I think I might have said this before, I don't think I've ever seen an opponent miss a Focus Blast.

Yeah, I replaced Dragon Pulse for this, since I doubted Red would have any dragons.

Just two more to go, and I've still got the full team. I knew I could count of Xian.

I know in HG/SS that this Blastoise has Blizzard. Since I've changed the weather, I hopefully shouldn't pose too much of a problem.

What's the point of that? You're just wasting time.

You see; I'm just going to get that health back.

Oh shit. I guess Blastoise gets Signal Beam in this hack.

No problem. Fiesta can just tank it.

That high special defence really helped Fiesta here.

Now to see if Bastion can make this a six-zero for us.

This nuzlocke is offically won.

It's time for one final team recap.

Nuzlocke Winners

Xian, the Gentle Arcanine. An unbelievably reliable team member. Xian took the role of team leader throughout Kanto, and is the only Hall of Famer to still be standing. Truth be told, his altered moveset wasn't that impactful, but at least it looked cool. Great stats, great ability, and a versitile moveset, Xian's been through thick and thin for this challenge.

Noordzee, the TImid Politoed. Noordzee had to wait a long time before finally taking his place on the team. He's the last in a long line of water Pokemon to have fought on my team, starting with Lancer, then Aquamarine and Panzer, then Typhoon. Politoed's Drizzle ability was vital in winning several gyms.

Fury, the Naughty Primeape. Fury might be paper thin, but as a Choice Scarf wielder he's done fine work for this team. The voters snubbed him for a crummy Nidoking, but Fury got the last laugh. Boasting a physical moveset superior to any one else who fought on the team, Fury didn't fail to impress. Also, Chuck's Primeape almost screwed us over.

Bastion, the Impish Donphan. Turned out to be a much better addition than I had expected. Bastion's high defence and attack proved important in dealing with tough physical attackers. It's a shame I didn't get much use out of Stealth Rock, beside killing a Miltank. Yeah, I really like Donphan now.

Sturmovik, the Impish Skarmory. Flying types have had a rough time on my team, with a Pidgey, Staraptor, Togekiss, and a Swellow all going to the grave. It was nice to end things off with someone a bit sturdier, who could use Brave Bird without risk.

Fiesta, the Relaxed Ludicolo. The last addition to the team who comes from a line of grass types on my team. The final successor to Verdante, he proved himself very capable in the few battles he fought in. Having someone who could take full advantage of the rain was a big boost to the team's power.

Those are the winners. Of course, they weren't the only ones to help me win this challenge...
