Episode Sixty One: Viridian Gym

It's finally time to take on the very last gym in the game. All things considered, Kanto's been a rather smooth ride so far. However, Blue will likely be a bigger challenge than all of the other leaders I've faced.

[spoiler=Episode Sixty One: Part One]

RAtvqEb.jpg

Thanks for the tip.

I certainly won't regret this build.

MAqpQQU.jpg

It's too dark in here.

MAqpQQU.jpg

ArXmtzb.jpg

tUhrgAo.jpg

It seems like all the trainers are using ground types. I guess that makes it easier for now.

yU2IgQG.jpg

Is he your sex slave or something? I think he can introduce himself.

olM6RvF.jpg

AnW52b2.jpg

I hope this is the last double battle I have to do.

gNtCiCM.jpg

No, because I see everything from a birdseye view.

0Ky0IMZ.jpg

Y9Ly0FB.jpg

And those are the last gym trainers I'll be facing.

[spoiler=Episode Sixty One: Part Two]

4xkj41q.jpg

Well, it wasn't far... just a long surf.

MLPETf4.jpg

Mostly. Except for Bugsy, Morty, and maybe Whitney.

0aQ64iS.jpg

UdnzdKq.jpg

ngx6LXY.jpg

I really wasn't expecting that. I guess it makes sense. This is a ground gym after all.

g5wwN2x.jpg

F7jzjng.jpg

Just please don't have Ice Beam, or Thunder... or any of the other moves you can have.

0K0N26N.jpg

p11a9Ro.jpg

Now to sort out them spikes.

z0qvHBc.jpg

Okay.

T28eE0e.jpg

GRVqIhw.jpg

o86xze5.jpg

Bugger.

1FYJFYG.jpg

I could finish it off with Leaf Blade, but then Trapsnatch would get killed by the Sandstorm. I'll need to fix that.

5kEr0UA.jpg

lES36km.jpg

Please no critical.

jojAoan.jpg

Well, that's his most powerful Pokemon toppled.

AEbSSjo.jpg

3129AQB.jpg

O5beyRw.jpg

Damn it all.

5J5itFF.jpg

Oh goodie. I guess I've got to wait this and the Trick Room out.

LfJynxE.jpg

Is that all? I guess Nibani can endure for a little while longer.

yUkT7YO.jpg

VJyLM0g.jpg

Okay, nevermind. RIP: Nibani.

YeSFYri.jpg

She at least stalled out the Trick Room. So I won't need to worry about any more nonsense.

cNxRLmi.jpg

Trapsnatch, I really need you to not miss Leaf Storm.

Mgq1Yv3.jpg

Good going.

l3ksyBF.jpg

QFqhJWH.jpg

I don't know why anyone even bothers with Gyarados. Pretty much everyone has access to at least one electric attack.

t5I6A2g.jpg

Ugh... at least I've got a psychic type...

tZfZg3U.jpg

Please be a critical hit, otherwise...

lEoCmZ1.jpg

DypLEHz.jpg

RIP: Studmuffin. Sorry, but someone needed to take the hit.

2tHXWFM.jpg

Well, I've had an entire game to prepare.

v7LjqMT.jpg

Not really. It's just me.

And that's the last badge.

Thanks for the TM I'll find no use for.

ELVDt7o.jpg

Damn straight.

[spoiler=Episode Sixty One: Aftermath]

nsFgW3v.jpg

I had to work hard for that one. Those are some bad losses.

vpDjvpL.jpg

Seriously, this better be good.

uM2op4X.jpg

Hurray... a bunch for free items I can fetch.

XOTYU6o.jpg

Great. There's one last challenge.

xzNc2vc.jpg

Or perhaps there's one more...

Ouch... Studmuffin finally went down. I'm fairly sure there's an E4 rematch in vanilla, are you gonna bother? Or are we gonna head straight for Red?

Episode Sixty Two: Viridian Gauntlet

In this part, I head to Viridian Forest, where I encounter several powerful trainers. Just because the gyms are all down, that doesn't mean things are getting any easier.

[spoiler=Episode Sixty Two: Part One]

K9qgAi1.jpg

This peaceful image is nothing but lies. This is a terrible place.

7lglwqx.jpg

Fury's making his return. Boosting the trinity of physical attacks plus ThunderPunch to round things off.

f16zyIo.jpg

Mikoyan is the new member. Choice Banded ExtremeSpeeds ought to come in handy.

pCCqPKV.jpg

rVPeUZX.jpg

Not a bad encounter. That said, you can catch Scyther in this forest. Oh well.

4XxnOoS.jpg

And you'll enjoy eating dirt, I'm sure.

FI0tmNB.jpg

cgxLDyq.jpg

...

...

Level 75...

Five Pokemon...

... Okay.

Mikoyan. I know you're new, but I really need you to not bugger this up.

TDPjHHh.jpg

n9ZbzjV.jpg

That might be the easiest this battle gets.

zxiCdrd.jpg

mz3MJyV.jpg

Z8I0vwr.jpg

Okay. This might not be so bad after all.

82XbKqh.jpg

I'll need to use Nasty Plot before I can take this one down.

z43xv7f.jpg

JLtFrCE.jpg

RIP: Bluebolt. Thanks for the Gyarados you killed.

hrMo0Wt.jpg

Bf6l5tq.jpg

91AnyK4.jpg

This is serious.

gCRlHfe.jpg

More weather is exactly what I need.

ooNU8Eh.jpg

76FIKst.jpg

I wish my Togekiss could've been as tenacious as that.

tJ1X8P9.jpg

That has an easy answer at least.

Z1TTYdx.jpg

VVx3ylB.jpg

Well, that's as good as dead.

XhjW8o9.jpg

Right. A good Leaf Storm to finish things off.

nywtuus.jpg

Real funny, Trapsnatch. Now hit Leaf Storm and finish the battle.

gF3dRls.jpg

HSdhzgb.jpg

RIP: Trapsnatch. Go for Leaf Blade next time.

MBVuYNh.jpg

T81o7Ad.jpg

Thanks, Noordzee.

u3gL1sx.jpg

Looks like I go a mouthful of dirt. This calls for some emergency grinding.

[spoiler=Episode Sixty Two: Part Two]

3afwN2Z.jpg

Let's have even more weather on the team. Besides, you need to repay me for that Focus Sash.

C4PzGVb.jpg

Another newcomer. She's got Stealth Rock, so I can be a competitive wanker.

akNSjCb.jpg

I'm starting to believe that might actually be the case.

VgobwBb.jpg

v7hPBRs.jpg

Same story again. This time however, we're on equal footing.

nH9flee.jpg

nzznwVB.jpg

It was Overheat anyway, so it hardly mattered.

kyZ0T9e.jpg

Man, Noordzee is just too good. He's a real trooper.

IDv2ZMG.jpg

There's something I'm forgetting about Ludicolo.

reUmj4T.jpg

Oh right... Swift Swim.

siZzwqQ.jpg

uiWGvlE.jpg

I knew having weather and having recoil would bite me in the arse, but at the same time? RIP: Mikoyan. Thanks for your contribution.

UbBGrVr.jpg

I suspect it has Earthquake. I just want to dampen it's attack first.

JJxE5ZO.jpg

Yep. Good call.

FeEkbsP.jpg

FgRiEPR.jpg

I should've seen that coming as well.

L326TAj.jpg

I confess, I actually had to use a Hyper Potion here, just to be safe.

itk465O.jpg

A Donphan should be able to handle this, unless that Snorlax brings something drastic out.

w19LImV.jpg

DsVCTKS.jpg

Yeah. It's all good.

oP77HM5.jpg

idJEPRA.jpg

Bastion doing good work. However, as you'll soon see, I should've taken the chance to use Stealth Rock.

Q4Vkon7.jpg

IaQyrk6.jpg

I've got priority ice moves, so it's not helping you to do that.

ECu0gU2.jpg

I was surprised that this move didn't one shot. I guess Yanmega is tougher than I thought.

Jg641Bd.jpg

N6Pdi9S.jpg

Eep.

zBJrlES.jpg

Three Pokemon in the space of two battles.

Want to know the best part? There're three more trainers in the forest. You'll be seeing that in the next part.

And maybe something more...

Damn, RIP Bluebolt (ep 11-62), Trapsnatch (ep 20-62) and Mikoyan... Xian now takes the place of first caught Pokemon on the team (I only know this because I went back and checked, Bluebolt had a grand total of a 12 screenshot lead on Xian :P).

Episode Sixty Three: The Hunt for Mew

As you saw at the end of the last part, that little punk, Mew, is crawling around. I've got to beat the rest of these forest trainers, and then find that little bastard and let him know the rules... if I survive that long.

[spoiler=Episode Sixty Three: Part One]

MKv2vZT.jpg

I've got a metal bird who doesn't need to worry about recoil. Bring it on.

cwdQZ28.jpg

wluFoSq.jpg

Yeah. I did some more grinding before taking on the last trainers in the forest. Just a couple levels.

bUXzLWc.jpg

And this time, there won't be any Sludge Bombs.

ArjoDEx.jpg

Here's something I was hoping not to see. The only dragon attack user on my team is a fire type.

ziCSDYA.jpg

ZzTZY6v.jpg

13BOyjD.jpg

Ugh... Kingdra's just so bulky. Good thing I didn't go for Close Combat.

1WR9opm.jpg

I should've seen this coming.

LNHa9u0.jpg

RIP: Focus Sash... I mean Siberia.

CISN8bU.jpg

U6Wt9JY.jpg

With hindsight, I realise I should've done that from the start. Oh well, no great loss.

auDsMH7.jpg

xiI08iD.jpg

Take a bath, mutt.

JgO2JPS.jpg

Thankfully, there was no Magnet Rise to fuck with me this time.

vXugJwW.jpg

A lot of familiar Pokemon today.

is6u7Rg.jpg

XO62nla.jpg

4hHwyE6.jpg

That's the third trainer dealt with, and at the cost of only one Pokemon.

iP1e1aZ.jpg

Time for another emergency replacement.

[spoiler=Episode Sixty Three: Part Two]

TEsgI0o.jpg

I'm learning, you see.

NMMKD0a.jpg

Not shy enough for it not bother me.

VpswcEe.jpg

TIi6aLO.jpg

It's attack is lowered, so Sturmovik shouldn't have any trouble.

uUaa9Wb.jpg

Oh god! Oh god! Oh god!

DLuQYMi.jpg

That ain't fair, man.

mQc4cqU.jpg

gs1KCAC.jpg

TRWJbXO.jpg

Sods to you. At least Fiesta's got it down.

YqjjodK.jpg

J8qYez6.jpg

It looks like he's using Explosion, only without the dying.

Vp63ki6.jpg

PmxlwoO.jpg

That just seems like a really weak Pokemon for one of these trainers to have.

893XyUE.jpg

qx0kSxo.jpg

I've missed this animation. It's just too awesome.

7eCbZCB.jpg

Now here's something I'm not sure what to do with.

zv19jlv.jpg

H8EP811.jpg

Well, at least it's wasting its turn.

KZnaeIj.jpg

gcwi003.jpg

Is that really so different from Shadow Claw?

RwqRnC2.jpg

Hey, I didn't lose anyone this time. The trial's working!

[spoiler=Episode Sixty Three: Part Three]

Kxw2Qqn.jpg

You're the last one. Let's do it!

55hwsoX.jpg

mm9c3Xf.jpg

You've probably got Earthquake.

xKxQ2uo.jpg

Yeah. Anything that can learn Earthquake will have it.

ARg2JYd.jpg

Competitive wanker!

GdHhs3p.jpg

Bastion's more than a match for this cow. That massive defence is just tanking the blows.

X6WSobf.jpg

Aww, not this shit again.

T0xCoqJ.jpg

Right. Xian just needs to survive one attack.

vkygPg2.jpg

Hrmm... I get the feeling I know what's coming.

rZVvhjA.jpg

s57aZ31.jpg

Give me a break.

QjLmccU.jpg

HHUGxCJ.jpg

I think Fiesta might have been the missing link I was hunting for the whole time.

uqWeK77.jpg

Those Stealth Rocks are doing their job.

sVZyVS9.jpg

Again, that just seems like a pretty weak Pokemon.

3EOCAM3.jpg

You can't run forever. One tree's getting chopped here.

5otWwrU.jpg

M3g6Wr5.jpg

Frozen coconuts.

jjtSCuA.jpg

No Thunder Fang, please. Just be good and take this Surf.

A6ODWpC.jpg

You're only delaying your fate.

iL40LpW.jpg

Just got to finish off that Miltank now.

mkPbjTk.jpg

Well, that was easy.

[spoiler=Episode Sixty Three: Part Four]

With all the trainers defeated, it's time to find that little pink rat.

SoHArz6.jpg

He's teleporting away. You can't escape me, rodent!

OBNInGi.jpg

Now battle me!

x4zHmbX.jpg

Now!?

JzYCBqW.jpg

There's no hiding from my foot! Take it like a man!

yisbyPP.jpg

YGQ59yi.jpg

We'll do this in style, and give you a fighting chance.

1NBcQZL.jpg

R9MGnVR.jpg

Here's an ending fitting of your status.

pRHrcxE.jpg

zYqy75b.jpg

You stay there. I've got other fish to fry.

And that's the end of the Viridian Forest mini arc. It's time for me to head over to Mount Silver, fetching some final encounters, and training up my team for the last battle. My team's been tempered by fire, and I think it's reached it's final incarnation.

Shadow Claw is GhostType Night Slash (Or Slash, actually.)

Shadow Punch is Ghost Type Aerial Ace.

SIBERIA! NOOO! THE SPIRIT OF THE SOVIET PEOPLES WILL NEVER BE VANQUISHED! DESTROY THAT BOURGOISIE, RED, STURMOVIK! IN THE MEMORY OF COMRADE SIBERIA!

Well, the Red Army is still standing. For now...

Episode Sixty Four: The Last Routes

The final battle is almost at hand. If I'm victorious against Red, that will mean I've offically won the nuzlocke. If however, I lose, then all was for nought. In this part, I do some brief exploring around Mount Silver. I'll be getting my final few encounters along the way.

[spoiler=Episode Sixty Four]

tlxeFf9.jpg

bqgy43e.jpg

A replacement grass type... but I don't think that matters so much anymore.

MkdAV3R.jpg

And here I am. The delightful Mount Silver... in all its silvery glory.

nZBGTV0.jpg

Oooooh. I like that. I like that a lot.

Y9qFwGh.jpg

Seeing this, something occurs to me. None of the Pokemon on my team have mega evolutions. Not that it matters in this gen, but it's just an observation.

4QmQHlU.jpg

It sure is quiet here. I guess that means I'm almost at the top.

F1uOYsC.jpg

Why hello there, lady. (Not being creepy at all)

v2sP7Tb.jpg

UfSrQTQ.jpg

If I was the media, I'd just stick a camera to window and snap one of you in the nude.

D38KoXY.jpg

admIW11.jpg

Thanks. I don't need it, but thanks.

pR5JHp9.jpg

A spare Flamethrower. Again, I don't need it, but it's a nice TM anyway.

0Iwypox.jpg

Yes, finally! I can evolve my Dusclops!

MXHn63i.jpg

One last encounter...

QhtCGM6.jpg

That Lavitar would be just wonderful.

yUVxphT.jpg

Great... just great. I guess Fiesta doesn't need Focus Blast.

Jvj3DTw.jpg

Q2S9KDb.jpg

Go, you mad Pinapple!

rSJWaDR.jpg

It's taking an odd amount of the time to find an encounter. Those Lavitar are hiding!

XHhLdyE.jpg

FPQWYKp.jpg

That's seriously underwhelming for a last encounter. I suppose she's not bad.

mWVeFNr.jpg

A second Stealth Rock. I might actually use that on Skarmory... maybe.

7nqbk1f.jpg

Awesome! I was hoping I could evolve that Snorunt.

And that's all for Mount Silver and the last encounters. Next time, it's the final bout. The team has been honed and strengthened, and I believe they have what it takes... after a bit of extra grinding.

[spoiler=Team]

pjOGcws.jpg

Nice and ready now.

Episode Sixty Five: Red

It's the long awaited moment. Sixty five posts in, and it's the final battle. The team's very different than from when I went up against Lance, with Xian being the only remaining member from that team still in tow. Most of the team was hastily thrown together to patch up various losses, but they're a damn good mix. I still don't know whether they'll be enough, but I'm relatively confident things will turn out for the best.

[spoiler=Episode Sixty Five: Part One]

H4AeofD.jpg

All of this has led up to now. Just one last match.

woYvV84.jpg

And there he is. I dunno what he's doing all the way out here.

ZJKs5D4.jpg

...

XsHCp2G.jpg

CCVdh2C.jpg

Is that the Vs Seeker I spy. If so, then you've found your challenger!

EiyhZwr.jpg

I figured Pikachu would still be the first out, so I led with Fury for a Scarfed Earthquake.

uO2Vbtx.jpg

I know it's nine levels higher, but there's no way a Pikachu can survive a move like this.

CQedRGs.jpg

Well, I suppose that's his highest level Pokemon out of the way.

t2tOAxD.jpg

That was unexpected. I guess this must be his Gold/Silver team. To be honest, I would've found Lapras an easier match.

BbwQ8Rc.jpg

Noordzee's got good special defence... but I suspect a critical Psychic won't go down well.

I1gueeJ.jpg

It's good of it to not attack, but that might come back to haunt me.

B0HaOQ8.jpg

CvXV6Ok.jpg

That two down with little trouble.

PZ0rlSK.jpg

I'm almost certain there's nothing a Venusaur can do to a Skarmory.

8yK69Uy.jpg

Yeah. If that's the best it can muster, then I've got nothing to fear.

uaeiHQE.jpg

syX75LY.jpg

That's not helping matters though. It's fine, just so long as Sturmovik wakes up quickly.

9tfMx9j.jpg

One... two... three... four...

jCDKpUh.jpg

qqKRn69.jpg

3oDOBQo.jpg

What a lovely mish-mash of events.

Q073eWL.jpg

D4ZMalY.jpg

You really had to drag that one out, didn't you?

xnLnmWn.jpg

I spent a bit of time thinking about what the most secure way to beat this Charizard would be, but then I decided to just use the old method.

XXD2mws.jpg

I think I might have said this before, I don't think I've ever seen an opponent miss a Focus Blast.

0BhxIYn.jpg

Yeah, I replaced Dragon Pulse for this, since I doubted Red would have any dragons.

8d8vI6H.jpg

Just two more to go, and I've still got the full team. I knew I could count of Xian.

OAGWOqd.jpg

I know in HG/SS that this Blastoise has Blizzard. Since I've changed the weather, I hopefully shouldn't pose too much of a problem.

fqIeVoy.jpg

What's the point of that? You're just wasting time.

OZW6NfL.jpg

You see; I'm just going to get that health back.

jwBXBE7.jpg

lkvhnhd.jpg

Oh shit. I guess Blastoise gets Signal Beam in this hack.

1lyqKpj.jpg

No problem. Fiesta can just tank it.

KVToV4g.jpg

Z9XwcwG.jpg

That high special defence really helped Fiesta here.

49PHyTH.jpg

Now to see if Bastion can make this a six-zero for us.

jYOrXQt.jpg

mFjwSy8.jpg

i2N6cf9.jpg

Okay. I just need you to hit one Earthquake. How hard can it be?

eIjmoZH.jpg

These aren't doing too much damage, but if Bastiob gets...

PmBbGFn.jpg

Bugger.

g3ryWE4.jpg

Please do enough damage. Please do enough damage.

h4NuXOq.jpg

And it's over! No losses!

5uOpQcV.jpg

... Sorry, Red, but it looks like you need a better team.

J3XUnFC.jpg

Hey look, a plate!

[spoiler=Episode Sixty Five: Part Two]

This nuzlocke is offically won.

It's time for one final team recap.

Nuzlocke Winners

u97t2Kr.jpg

Xian, the Gentle Arcanine. An unbelievably reliable team member. Xian took the role of team leader throughout Kanto, and is the only Hall of Famer to still be standing. Truth be told, his altered moveset wasn't that impactful, but at least it looked cool. Great stats, great ability, and a versitile moveset, Xian's been through thick and thin for this challenge.

lqXoU7j.jpg

Noordzee, the TImid Politoed. Noordzee had to wait a long time before finally taking his place on the team. He's the last in a long line of water Pokemon to have fought on my team, starting with Lancer, then Aquamarine and Panzer, then Typhoon. Politoed's Drizzle ability was vital in winning several gyms.

UEfAJcb.jpg

Fury, the Naughty Primeape. Fury might be paper thin, but as a Choice Scarf wielder he's done fine work for this team. The voters snubbed him for a crummy Nidoking, but Fury got the last laugh. Boasting a physical moveset superior to any one else who fought on the team, Fury didn't fail to impress. Also, Chuck's Primeape almost screwed us over.

OT1Pz4a.jpg

Bastion, the Impish Donphan. Turned out to be a much better addition than I had expected. Bastion's high defence and attack proved important in dealing with tough physical attackers. It's a shame I didn't get much use out of Stealth Rock, beside killing a Miltank. Yeah, I really like Donphan now.

mQ7QYXD.jpg

Sturmovik, the Impish Skarmory. Flying types have had a rough time on my team, with a Pidgey, Staraptor, Togekiss, and a Swellow all going to the grave. It was nice to end things off with someone a bit sturdier, who could use Brave Bird without risk.

xdIgIVe.jpg

Fiesta, the Relaxed Ludicolo. The last addition to the team who comes from a line of grass types on my team. The final successor to Verdante, he proved himself very capable in the few battles he fought in. Having someone who could take full advantage of the rain was a big boost to the team's power.

Those are the winners. Of course, they weren't the only ones to help me win this challenge...

ylSsDpk.jpg

25 Deaths

My thanks who everyone who has watched this nuzlocke challenge. I hope that it was everything that you were expecting and more. I hope that I will be able to present other games for your viewing pleasure in the future. But for now, from me and the team, good day.

Awesome read.

R.I.P to (in no particular order) Verdante, Gerardo, Azure, Studmuffin, Siberia, Typhoon, Bluebolt, Rusty, Lancer, Trapsnatch and others I can't remember the names of.

Also, wow, 125 hours? o.o

Yep. It was all that grinding I had to do.

My sincere thanks to everyone who watched this nuzlocke. Despite a few hiccups here and there, things turned out much better than I expected. I'm glad that people have enjoyed my efforts.

I have a couple of ideas in mind for my next game. Hopefully, I will have decided soon, and then things can begin anew.
