Slightly more than 25% of known Avatars began as Firebenders*! The first avatar was initially a firebender! *As said, the first Avatar was a Firebender. After him, the order is wind->water->earth. Korra, the last known Avatar, was initially a waterbender, thus we know of one less earthbender avatar than we know of the other 3 varieties of benders.
