The Making of Fire Emblem - Fates Information

That Camilla's intro cutscene was what single-handedly raised the game to a C15+.

I know I'm probably in the minority here, but, in my opinion, I'm kind of glad this game got bumped up to C15+, even if that's what caused the bump, simply because the black boxes look really nice, unfortunately North America got stuck with the standard white.

Is there anything else noteworthy from this book?

That Kibiyashi's initial drafts where much more closely followed than we thought, but Vincent already said that and we've already debated over it.

Really, we've just been slowly drip-fed info from semi-dubious sources. Until Kirokan gets some translations and scans up, we're not going to have much to work with.

Looking around on the wiki and some concept art has been added. They're on Elise's and Corrin's page; Don't know who got it from where, but the origin is most likely the book. The Elise in the bottom row, second to last is my favorite. So much hair and sooo cute!

Hmmm. I wonder if the first concept art for Corrin is supposed to be Nohr Prince or Dark Blood. Also it's really interesting to see that Corrin's ears were (possibly) intended to be longer than in the official character design.

Yes I agree, I like that hair better than the drills

Also I like the poofy pants. Shame it's not in the final draft.

Does anybody know what the text says for the Nohrian scenery at the top of this image and in this image? I've been dying to know about the structure of Windham and what the structure that seems to float from the sky is. And if anybody could provide me with a clear shot of both the Nohrian scenery and the Dark Mage/Sorcerer designs I would be eternally grateful. <3

That's pretty interesting. I think it shows that the developers weren't really interested in writing the story themselves, and instead relying on an outside "professional" to produce it. Even if he's a quality writer, you can't expect him to write a perfect first draft, and one that also completely resonates with the themes of the series in general. It seems like they were just banking on his name for success.

Also, a question to the people that own this book. Is there a lot of text? Or is it well balanced with the images and concept arts. I'd love to own the book for the arts and references yet I can't read a word of Japanese.

Ditto to this. I'd really love to know what that one map of Vindam says, as the city's layout confuses the heck out of me.

I've been writing about the scenery of Windham in my current chapter and then I saw this and I've been holding out a little because I want to know what is says so that I don't make mistakes. :/

I just got my book today, and there is a lot of text in it. I haven't had time to look through the whole book yet (I'm still learning Japanese so I read pretty slowly), but from what I've seen so far it's pretty text-heavy. The concept art is really great, but it's probably not the best book to get if you don't know any Japanese (in my opinion).

And do you still need clearer images of the Nohrian pictures you posted? I can get pictures from my book and translate what I can if you still do!

Oh my gosh, that would be amazing. If you could do that I would be eternally grateful, it would really cheer up the shitty week I've been having. XD

Any character design concept art (or concept art in general) that you could scan would be great. Don't mean to toss requests at you, but yeahhhh. I'm not looking for anything in specific, I just find concept art inspiring! Thanks much.

Here’s what I can make out:

The entire city is like a crater, and Kraken Stein castle is down in the lowest part. The castle extends underground. The diagram in the top right corner of the first picture shows the castle’s location, so it’s off center. Light comes up to the city from the center. (It literally says that “light leaks out from below” over the drop in the center). At the top it says that there were fields that were previously in use. This doesn’t have an arrow pointing anywhere, so it might be referring to the space outside the city?

Something that I thought was pretty interesting is in the note at the top of the page. It says that the Hoshidan castle was meant to be a castle extending to heaven because it’s so tall, so I guess that makes the Nohrian castle the equivalent of hell because it’s underground. Neat way to keep up the White Kingdom/Black Kingdom dichotomy.

There are a few kanji that I’m not familiar with (I’m no where near fluent haha), and the size of the writing makes it kind of hard to make out the strokes on some of them. I’ll try to look them up by radicals in the morning so I can make sure I’m not missing anything important. I’ll post some more images from the book tomorrow, too, but for now it’s after midnight, so I need to get to bed XD Anyone with a higher level of Japanese comprehension than me, feel free to post your own translations/corrections :)

Not sure if these were posted yet, but here are the Hoshido pictures from the same pages:

Thanks much for the scans.

It's a little cut off so I can't tell for sure, but it seems like Hoshido was designed while keeping the radiance of Nara period in mind.

From what I can tell for Nohr, there's a watering hole made in the hole of the crater, the castle gate is a drawbridge, private houses are joined to form a protective wall... Wait, are they using their citizens as a shield to protect the castle? Also, am I crazy or is there something censored in the 2nd Nohr pic?

Waah, makes me feel like buying the book too
