The law is against Harming the Weak which is annoying because the bloody thing spawned at level 32 which is lower than everyone but Elm and Hurdy, so I'm just gonna use the Move +2 law to get as many guys into position as possible.



Barrier is really good.

I think we're done with her, but Syrenead is still like one of my favourite NPCs in the game.











Mysterious! Dialogue!

The law is very annoyingly that you can't go above Height 10, which is where the Green Mage is.

So, I guess Ezel Berbier is in this game! The guy who made FFTA1 playableish. He was notable for flaunting the law and providing the means for the player to do so, too. His theme played at the start of the map, and it starts playing again now.

Sadly I can't find the FFTA2 version with what is clinically described as a not godawful soundfont.







He's also Scottishish now.

Nofilia, with halved MP costs, can doublecast and delete any flan by hitting its weakness.









It's the Nofilia Show. Well, there's been an unexpected amount of dialogue with Ezel showing up and all, so I'll have to save the Baptiste quest for later. Still, at least today we resolved a subplot, though I can't help but wonder if these things don't usually come in threes...

More quests to sort out in the west.

But first, we deal with Floraxion.

It might not be that simple. Or, worse, it might be even more simple than that.

We trade buffs and debuffs.

A vaguely tempting maths, but I refrain - it doesn't damage Floraxion, anyway. But he can haste Nathala and Kyrie.

Floraxion is weak to fire, but that's no help to Nathala - Geomancy makes you one step weaker to everything, but you can't get weaker than weak.

Okay, we kind of fall behind on the debuff thing.

Nathala sets all her friends on fire.

This is Bad, but at least the poison will break the confuse on Elm and Torch. Kyrie, though...

Nathala almost kills everything with Scion's Wrath.

Kyrie decides he doesn't want to be Confused anymore. Sadly, it doesn't work.

Momentum swings back our way.

Floraxion summons a fresh Malboro.

We unsummon it.

On death's door, it lashes out weakly at the group, who counterattacks powerfully - Lawrn finishes it.

Yeah, I'm not convinced that was just Florah's pet.

And then Yvet immobilises and critical-healths it. It doesn't seem to want to attack and man do we not give it the chance.







Another subplot complete.








But first let's not help our case by pummeling all these guys into the ground.






Annoyingly, they can't set off the traps themselves. There's a three-turn limit, too.





Two go down as they pack into a cross formation that Nathala can't quite reach.








Pretty simple. It gives very little experience, arbitarily.




Then Tromel repeats the same three lines as ever. There's just one hitch.

They both look pretty long of tail to me, but tail length's the only thing seperating them.






Discovery made: Ultima doesn't care about facing.

See, the other lads were occupied in Delgantua. Some bad business about an honour duel.

Was this fuckin' pointless fight in the middle of nowhere between two totally irrelevant guys. Yoana and Elm were both pretty badly hurt by it, the judge fucked off after Lawrn did a spell. But we were paid for it! That's just the world we live in.

You just gotta embrace it.

You gotta be quick.

You gotta be strong.

And you gotta beat everyone you see.

Speed fights, auctions, trials - they're all just pissing contests, that's all the world is. So make sure you're the best.

And that's not just for your clan. That's for you, too, you personally. Lots of mediocre sons of bitches looking to take your place, stab you in the back... most of 'em talk a big game, too. You just gotta walk the walk, really fuckin' well.

No weakness about strength in numbers, either. Anyone who says otherwise is, well... just mad that they can't get in a clan themselves.

Corollary: if you're alone? You're weak. Once you've got your foot in the door of a clan, you stay there. For good.

... Until the next big offer, anyway. You want to go up and up the ranks. Take your chances. Maybe, uh, give the top end a miss for now. The Worms, Khamja, Duelhorn... it's a fuckin' free-for-all right now. You don't want to get involved with that.

So, yeah, that's the score right now. You've got a contract with, uh, the Camoa Braves? Yeah, uh. Good luck, with that. Just keep getting better. Never get complacent.

A legend is something that's time has passed.

The 'mutadragons' are dead, and we killed the fuck out of them.

They were both flash and terrible at fighting. Lots of big pyrotechnics that probably murdered the hell out of the townies, but... all that had stopped anyone else getting to 'em before us was their reputation.

One went down like, before the others could twitch in anger.

Now, reputation can be handy. Sure was for these guys. Kept 'em safe and fat and complacent.

But we have a reputation for actually doing shit. It's not really fair, you know? People fight us.

By the end, they were just begging for mercy.

And we beat 'em up and we let 'em go. I could've had the heads of three apocalypse dragons mounted on the fuckin' wall but I've been in this goddamn game too long to give a fuck about that.

Every two steps forward, there's a step back.

Every time we leave Loar, it blows up and we have to go back. So now Ordalia's probably going to spontaneously combust. More Duelhorn, more Khamja.

And, you know, we're the only judged clan in this three-way tug-of-war, you'd think the law would try not to fuck us all the time.

It's taking us months to get to some of these goddamn petitions. Guys are starting to wise up and prepare properly.

But that's the problem with having a reputation as a bunch of hardasses. No bitching. You just gotta do the job, whatever it is.

This prick, Rodger, I mean... we just kinda had to forage for gems. In beartraps.

Let me tell you; you have not truly died inside until you've tried to triangulate walking into traps at precisely jogging pace.

It was satisfying to bring the pigboy in, though.

Tell you what we weren't expecting, though - a petition where a guy asked for zombie powder. Don't... don't ask me about zombie powder, kid, all you need to know is it's a thing, somehow.









And Guinness took it on. And he went to the Fen Witch, and Nofilia made a face as always, and...
















Maybe it was to try and figure out more about Lotice? I don't know, and it just... anyway. I was called upon.







Me and Ursla and the monks and Guinness himself, and Nofilia was asked but didn't go so Yvet went.










Small world, we ran into that alchemist from before on the road.









And he gave us an out.




But that's the question. That's what it all comes down to.


What is our place in the world?

So this is what we were voting for.

The choice is fairly obvious, but at times like these, I ask myself "What would Marche do?"

We're going to do exactly what the quest says. And it says "I want to forget".

We came to fight monsters, not become them.

And I could not stand by and allow this to become a decision.

So I lead the way.

And it was trivial, in the end.

And so we walked away.

We never heard from the petitioner again. But he sent us the money, regardless. Hopefully the plan worked, and he found peace.

But that's clan life - you can't dwell. You just need to keep on moving - so we did.

I was there - mostly for my hammer. But nobody expected the earthquake.

The teal/grey animists and gadgeteer are not the normal enemy colour schemes - as far as I can tell, they're unique to Goug.

Also the Bonga Bugle theme is playing throughout the whole mission for some reason.

They came prepared for their own security. I was just about to start daring to think that maybe we wouldn't need to solve everything ourselves.

Then it exploded.

Then everyone else bolted.

So we attacked.

Alde came too.

The fight started badly, as Adelle's habit of using angelic steel backfired on her... ah, but I shouldn't speak ill of her.

I smacked some sense into Guinness. Annoyingly, my weapon turned out to have an elemental focus, and the judge abandoned us.

This was not a good day.

Not at all.

It was an utter slog, in truth - we underestimated our opponents, and paid the price.

Adelle dropped first.

And when I fell, I stayed down. No sense in continuing with this. I observed from the floor.

Pure fortune, for once, went our way - the chocobo tussled with Alde, eventually springing a spike trap and allowing Alde to drag his way on top.

But, at last, it found its conclusion.

And we thought we could laugh, at the time. Laugh it off and move on.

Adelle was pretty badly beaten up after the fight. Maybe that's why what happened, happened.

She went back to Goug without us.

Day wasn't a total loss - Hurdy, for one, was pleased with what was found.

But Adelle... what was going through her head?

You know... I'm not like other humans. Ever since I was little, I've been good at everything I do. Reading, running, all of it. Even as a child, I could watch a dance once and mimic it perfectly. Songs, too. The other kids used to pick on me... but I paid them no mind. I didn't believe I was any different from them. Not really.

What could have made her betray us?

So, people of the thread - can you ever forgive her?

This strange man - and the other Tramdine quest - opened up as a result of a new area being unlocked in the Fens, where we killed those dreamhares.

We just have five guys, but they're five really tough guys.

At the end of the day, they do damage in the double digits and we do damage in the triple digits.

Nice and easy. But don't worry - I have a plan to ramp up the difficulty. Two birds, one stone...

This is if you fuck up with Yew - the dialogue isn't different for giving him a chocobo for the wrong colour, either.











That's... cute, and if I'm reading it right, disgusting. Still, these are adorable and characterful quests.


Hey, look what we prepared earlier. The failure dialogue is basically identical, only he mentions them being good at running instead of flying.











And then Caul went back to animism. He's been a chocobo knight for a bit, and the support was useful, but... honestly, the damage just couldn't keep up with the rest of my lads.







You know the drill.


Nah, you want a chocobo knight or a beastmaster.





Alde, you owe this man your fucking livelihood.

Grosso is Italian for 'fat', by the way. Anyway, yeah, we're just clearing out the quests in Loar. I apparently didn't save the screenshot but there was a third one - a Carm Mercantile worker's gone missing.

I only realise it in hindsight, but the monsters screaming 'Gull'eeee!' at you... well, Clan Gully is the default name.

Anyway, no fire - you need to uphold the law, and since heat spoils the flavour, well...

There's a malboro king, by the way. That's a thing that exists in this game. It sings. With sound effects to match.

My Bad Breath theory gets demolished when, ironically, Rodanu gets Poison/Blind/Silenced.

Cid and Guinness are mandatory, the law forbids Harming the Weak, and Guinness is Level 38 while the enemies are 36 and 37.
