JudgeWargrave
Yep, here we go again, harder, better, equally fast, strength NA. If you saw the last thread you know basically how this works, but I'll put everything you need to know here. There have been some improvements. If you want to know why its an auction and not draft style, the OP here will explain that. And yes, there is another FE7 draft open now, but that's randomized, EHM, and, uh, a draft, so distinctly different in three ways. Four if you count Eliwood mode and Hard mode as two differences. How the auction works Spoiler First, every unit gets assigned based on highest bid. Second, if there are any ties they are broken, in recruitment order, with the unit going to the person with the lowest sum value of their units. Third, if there are no ties and any teams with more than 7 units, reassign the unit whose bid value changes least by doing so. Repeat until all teams have 7 units. Next, assign prices: the price is 20% of the winner's bid + 80% of the next highest bid. A tie is considered a "next highest bid". If there is no next highest bid, use 0. The reason this ratio is used would take a bit too long to explain fully right here, but basically it means you can't expect to do better than bidding exactly what you think a unit is worth unless you have knowledge of others' bids, so you should just bid what you think it's worth. Now everyone gets a turncount handicap equal to the sum of their unit prices, and play begins. After the game, you add your handicap to your turncount to get your final score and the lowest score wins. In this way the handicaps act to balance the teams. The relative advantages of the draft order are removed because the players are effectively unordered and symmetrical, in theory resulting in a fairer outcome. Rules of play Spoiler Drafting: 1. This draft is for 5 players. 2a. Hector is free for all to use by necessity. 2b. Merlinus, Ninian/Nils, and Athos are free due to their unique nature. 2c. Marcus is free to use up to Chapter 16. After that he is banned. 3. Bartre and Karla are drafted as a pair. Wallace/Gietz and Harken/Karel are as well, to make a round 35 units. If we didn't do this, there would just be more effectively blank slots that could unbalance team size. 4. The game will be played on Hector Normal Mode, skipping Lyn Mode. Rules: 1. Undrafted units may recruit characters, rescue undrafted units and NPCs, trade, visit Shops and Armories, and dig up items in the desert. 2. Undrafted units may not do anything not listed above, including but not limited to meatshielding, building Supports, opening Doors or Chests, talking to Fargus in Chapter 17x, or Seizing Castles in Chapter 25. 3. Other units may do as they please without penalty. 4. All Gaiden Chapters except 19xx, 23x and 28x are required to be visited. 23x and 28x may be visited at the player's discretion, and don't count towards the total turncount up to 20 turns taken per chapter. 5. Defend chapters count the last played Player Phase for turns if the timer is waited out. Penalties: 1. Undrafted units have a 4 turn penalty, per unit per chapter. Exceptions: 1. Matthew is free for Chapter 11. 2. Meatshielding is allowed for Chapter 13x. 3. Lyn, Kent, Sain and Wil are free for Chapter 16. 4. Undrafted Thieves may be used to obtain necessary Promotion items. So if you want in, just PM me your bids. (And post that you did so that others know when its full) Here's a list of the units in recruitment order. Oh, and remember you can bid fractional components, like 0.5 if you don't think a unit will save a turn, but you think it might be useful backup if you don't get enough units by the time they appear. Or 6.5 if you think a unit will save 6 or 7 turns, but you aren't sure which. Unit List Spoiler Matthew Serra Oswin Eliwood Lowen Rebecca Dorcas Bartre+Karla Guy Erk Priscilla Florina Lyn Sain Kent Wil Raven Lucius Canas Dart Fiora Legault Isadora Heath Rath Hawkeye Wallace/Gietz Farina Pent Louise Harken/Karel Nino Jaffar Vaida Renault Like last time, here's the sha256 for my bids, so you know I didn't change them after receiving yours. b5b62888f8b2c1f593b05e7074f56cdfe594035392b291fdb8124a0a605aa962 I'm pretty excited, I think this time we'll get much better handicaps and it should be a really close contest! Carmine Sword
The randomizer draft isn't really happening at this point, so I sent my bids for this. JudgeWargrave
The last submission was from Horace about 28 hours ago. If we get up to 48 hours without another entrant, what do we say about just using 4 people? We can drop Harken/Karel, Wallace/Geitz, and uh, Renault I guess and have teams of 8. Also, I'd suggest one very minor change. If the lowest bid receives a unit, that unit is priced as if the 2nd- to-lowest bid received it. This reestablishes the equalized incentives for under/over bids even if your bid comes in last; previously if you were last and got the unit, the price depended only on you. This change would currently affect the result by only 0.1 since no one tried gaming the system, and only one unit has a lowest bid winner. I think closing the "all 0 bids" exploit is worth a very small chance of a very small overpay.
General Horace
wallace/geitz and harken karel never exist in drafts anyway so it's not a huge loss, but Renault can sometimes do some emergency staffing in the final chapter to help save a turn, i'd say someone like Louise instead, but even she does have potential to help out with something like the Cog Rout or something. Or toss out the above two and one team gets a bonus unit because those two aside I think every unit has potential to help out in some way, and someone have 8 units + Nino or Louise or something isn't going to be much better than an 8 man team, plus they'd still be paying for the unit in question.
JudgeWargrave
My worry would be that the 9 unit team would be worse due to diminishing returns. If a team could have two Florinas, the second Florina would not be worth her cost, since she would be redundant. It's not like she can carry a 2nd Hector to a second seize point. Of course the actual units aren't redundant due to being identical, but redundant functions still exist, and the more units on a team the more redundancies there are. Put in a more extreme way, a team of 6 units would definitely beat a team of 12 units, given equal average unit quality/handicap. An 8 unit team isn't that much better than a 9 unit one, but I'm pretty sure that an advantage would still exist.
Irysa
I can bid for the sake of bidding to be the final drafter so you can test your method, but I definitely wouldn't bother playing the draft itself. Maybe in the future someone will feel like picking up my team (pffft). Edited November 29, 2016 by Irysa
JudgeWargrave
I can bid for the sake of bidding to be the final drafter so you can test your method, but I definitely wouldn't bother playing the draft itself. Maybe in the future someone will feel like picking up my team (pffft). Thanks for the offer Irysa. It would definitely be nice to have a fifth data source, although I'd prefer the bids come directly from someone playing in the draft...If it's just for the sake of making a fifth team, we could just make a "dummy drafter" out of the average bids as well I suppose. What does everyone think of using Irysa's bids? We could also just make Renault free rather than banned if people want to maintain the option of using him. General Horace
i'm fine with either option. Everyone having Renault isn't gamebreaking, and Irysa filling a slot would get things rolling, but ulitmately doesn't really serve a purpose if he's not gonna play. Carmine Sword
Free Renault is fine. He probably won't be recruited by most people so it doesn't seem like a big deal if he's free imo. Also, I just realized that I accidentally switched my bid for Florina with my bid for Heath when I looked back at my bids. Whoops, haha. Who needs Florina anyways. Everybody else self-improved. Lucius killed the thief that stole the Brave Axe. Chapter 23:4/85 Isadora and Rath went up while the mages went left. Erk killed both bosses. Got the Ocean Seal, Body Ring, Filla's Might, and Eclipse. Promoted Erk after the map. Edited December 1, 2016 by Carmine Sword

JudgeWargrave
I'm gonna try videos for this one, so it will take a bit longer. Probably upload the first set tomorrow. Chapter 11 - Another Journey: 6/6 turns, 0/0 Rns At least this game doesn't require an Rn burn right off the bat to save a turn. This chapter has quite an unintuitive start. I couldn't find double speed level ups sadly. Chapter 12 - Birds of a Feather: 4/10 turns, 0/0 Rns Marcus runs up north to assist Hector after Bartre hands over his weapons. Not too difficult, but having only 2 units makes the possible rng manipulation very limited, and no one to grab the Secret Book. Chapter 13 - In Search of Truth: 7/17 turns, 0/0 Rns And Guy costs me a turn, but at least I've got three units now. Hector and Matthew wade across the river while Marcus takes the top route and everyone else flees behind him. Hector pulls Guy on T5, then kills the boss on T6 while Matthew recruits and is rescued away by Lowen. Marcus gets the torch, Guy kills a second enemy, and Hector seizes. Keeping everyone else out of combat was more annoying this time. Oh, here's another little product I'll be doing this time. Hopefully it will be more interesting to look at once we're all finished. General Horace
I would have done videos but videos for all the awful defence maps are the worst. I dont mind if you choose to exclude those to save time CHAPTER 15 - 7/32 TURNS ZZ Marcus killed the thief for the silver axe.
