Man I'm doing a lot of quoting lately. But ya'll sum up some of my thoughts very well.

7 hours ago, Alexmender said:

Shigure. His stat spread focuses on Spd while having good Atk and mediocre bulk. As a lance flier he faces direct competition from Cordelia/Tana but thanks to his good stat spread (being the fastest flier at base Spd) he can stand toe to toe with them. The lack of a Prf weapon hurts him a bit due to how arena works but outside of that he's one of the best fliers in the game. Thanks to his great Spd he can make great use of the Firesweep Lance+, his default Harmonic Lance+ or a Slaying Lance+. His main weakness is that his bulk will let him tank only 1 hit and that's it, making him quite frail but that's not a big concern for a PP unit.

Rating: 8/10

I'd also rate an 8/10

Shigure - on the same page as everybody else here. Except I would note that he will always score higher than Cordelia can thanks to the inflated stats and he's no longer the fastest of his class. But still a competitive pick for a player phase lance flier since Sumia far from outclasses him. 7.5 out of 10.

F!Kana - Fastest manakete of her color and she can match Better!Young Tiki since her lack of personal weapon lets her get a speed refinement. 30 Attack is pretty pitiful but naturally the adaptive damage helps her out if she's wielding a lightning breath to counter kill mages. Mages who she can avoid doubles from depending on her skillset. Besides all this she's quite similar to Fae and I really could choose which I like more. 7.5 out of 10. Wish it were M!Kana that were summonable, he'd be top of his class for sure.

Shigure - He's slightly weaker and faster than Tana, but he gets a generic weapon.  That's okay, because it's a good generic weapon.  His niche seems to be doubling on EP, which is something I wouldn't recommend with his 40 HP and 27 Def (his Res is even worse).  Fury and a Def refine on his lance put him at a much more respectable 45 HP/34 Def.  Once his skill goes off, his enemy's in for a lot of pain.  Since he doesn't have Tana's lance (even though he'd make excellent use of it IMO), he gets a 8/10

Kana - Lowest attack out of all green dragons, but highest speed.  Her default kit assumes that she'll be attacked, so her stats will be 36/34/37/30, which is about on-par with Myrrh, bulk-wise.  HOWEVER, she loses DC with this method, so she either needs to grab the significantly weaker Lightning Breath, or she needs to bait melee only.  For someone that wants to tank, this is bad.  At least her B/S slots are free, so QR can go in one of them.  I think she's decent stat-wise, but the concept she's built on falls flat on its face, because Water Breath needs innate DC to truly shine.  I guess she can attempt Light/Dark Breath and Windsweep if she's +Spd?  6/10

Shigure

Spoiler

Offensively, Shigure can be compared to Cordelia, having 2 less Attack but 2 more Speed. His Defense stat is below-average, but is still able to absorb a solid Physical hit thanks to his decent HP. His Resistance isn't much to talk about, but it's also allowing him to take a solid Magic hit in most cases.

Shigure is mostly Speed, and works well with his default Harmonic Lance, even if it's not a Lance but a Naginata. Special Damage +10 isn't anything to laugh at, after all. Darting Stance, however, is. If what you want is to reliably double on Enemy Phase, it's usually better to rely on Quick Riposte, so all you'd want Darting Stance for is to have the Speed to avoid a double... well if you want that, then Shigure has more than enough to do that. So it'd be better to drop Darting Stance. Ward Fliers isn't among the best skills since Fliers generally lack strong Defensive ability, but Shigure is the one who carried the skill to the 4* pool, which is notable. Noontime isn't a particularly great skill to pair with Special Damage +10, but it at least helps Shigure survive more attackers.

I at least assume the goal here was to make Shigure speedy on Enemy Phase without giving him Quick Riposte while also making it possible for him to avoid taking too much damage. If that was the goal, then forget it, give this man Swift Sparrow or Fury, Desperation, Moonbow or Glimmer, and a Speed refine, make him into a deadly Player Phase nuke.

Shigure's defensive ability is solid enough, but it is easily broken by even faster Magic, such as Ishtar or Pale Flower Nino, and Lancebreaker. Bows remain a common Flier weakness, and Excalibur is a potential threat to Shigure. As a Lance Flier, Shigure does have competition, though they are all so similar that it becomes a battle of who has the best tools immediately available to them, or at least who has the most Speed without losing too much power. In that regard, Shigure is among the better, but Tana can be defensive, and Cordelia is flexible.

There's not a good reason not to say yes to Shigure's presence though. If you want a fast flier, then Shigure is here to provide.

Rating: 7.5/10 Shigure has speed pulsating from each hoof of his pegasus, and a weapon that can take full advantage of such. While he faces many common problems as a Lance Flier, he can also bring them down if they fail to get the kill on him, which is a very real possibility given how fast he is with decent mixed bulk.

Kana

Spoiler

Let's get this out of the way first: Kana does not compare to Myrrh or Grima whatsoever. One can fly and has superior defensive ability, the other is a freaking god. So Kana shouldn't have much going for herself, but I find that an incorrect statement. She can at least compare to Fae, so comparison time: Worse Attack, better Speed, better Defense, worse Resistance, and worse HP. The Speed only matters in avoiding doubles for the most part, and having worse Resistance means Kana can't take on as many Mages as Fae can.

Kana has the Water Breath, a Breath that has Bracing Stance built into it. A decent effect, but it is deceptive in making Kana a much bulkier ally than she seems at first glance. Her Defense becomes better, and her Resistance matches Fae. Also of note, it has the effect of Ranged Pierce built into it from the start, so no forge is required to make it as good as or equal to other breaths. As for Kana's other skills, Fierce Stance fixes the relatively notable problem of her low Attack a bit, while Goad Dragons is a Goad skill for Dragons. Really makes them much stronger. Draconic Aura is not a good Special to keep on her though...

If I had to pick a different Special, it'd be Bonfire. Kana can be a physically bulky threat, thanks to Water Breath, being able to reach 44 Defense on Enemy phase with a +Def nature and +Def refine on Water Breath. She'll need Distant Counter if she wants to kill Bows, which will dig into her damage a bit, but it'll be worth the investment. She can also forego the defensive nature of Water Breath and instead go for the standard Lightning Breath route, including taking Steady Breath for the same Defense boost as Water Breath, but with a Special Charge bonus instead of Resistance. You can even pair Water Breath with Steady Breath, really stack on the Defense with the cost of not being able to attack Bows and other ranged attackers.

Kana's weakness would probably be how much weaker she is compared to other Dragons. Only sitting at 30 Attack base isn't that impressive. She's very balanced in fact, so much so it could hurt her team potential. She isn't quite as able to take magic hits as well as Fae can either.

While Kana is good, there's a fine line between balanced enough to be made good, and too balanced. Kana is fortunately balanced in a good way, but she keeps glancing towards the other side of the fence...

Rating: 7.5/10 Kana comes with the tools that make her a potent Enemy Phase threat, and a statline that lets her take advantage of said defenses. She does get compared to other Green Manaketes though, but that doesn't necessarily mean she is the worse of them.

Shigure

He's similar enough to Cordelia and Tana that I may as well summarise their reviews here.

33/37 is a great stat spread for a lance flier, allowing him to run standard brave and firesweep builds well, as well as a galeforce slaying lance build, though not as well as the other 2 due to having lower Atk to use heavy blade with.

Matchups are very similar regardless, so he gets an 8/10 like the other 2.

Kana (F)

She's not Myrrh or Grima. That alone makes her the worst out of the 3 5* exclusive green dragons, and has lower BST than her competition to boot.

Her Atk stat is mediocre though somewhat remedied by adaptive damage, and her main selling point is her speed, allowing her to avoid doubles, but not nearly high enough to player phase. Unfortunately that hardly compares to Myrrh's ability to block doubles. She can run steady breath but doesn't have access to armor BST and skills like Grima. And to top it off she doesn't even have Fae's benefit of being easily merged.

Simply put, she fails to do anything as well as her competition (except maybe the hardly relevant dark breath windsweep), but it's mostly due to her competition being some of the best units in the entire game, and she's still a good unit in her own right, being a dragon and all.

7.5/10, should have been demoted.

Hinoka - 32/35 works for an archer (for reference, Brave Lyn has one more Atk).  Her bow gives her some more speed, for 32/38.  Combine that with Atk/Spd Bond and it's 37/43, which is really good.  She'll drop to 37/40 with another bow (like Firesweep).  Her B and C skills need to be swapped out, since they're flier-specific (what they're swapped to is a matter of team composition).  Thanks to flier buffs and extra mobility, she can be quite irritating.  Archers are about positioning, and she is the undisputed queen of that.  9/10

Ares - I'm going to gush.  Please run if you don't want to see that.  Still with me?  Here goes. . .

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Ahem.  Take Legendary Ike, trade some bulk for a horse, replace innate DC with insane CD abuse, and that's Ares.  Dark Mystletainn + Heavy Blade means that combat skills will be on an insanely short CD (as in, Luna will be ready after every attack, should Heavy Blade proc).  He can take +Atk, +Spd, or +Def, and works on PP, EP, or both.  His downside is that he has three (!) superbanes, and no superboon, and mages will ruin his day.  Unlike his dad, he can't do the Galeforce thing.  And like any other horse unit, Wrath is a no-go (but that would be broken).  Overall, he's a solid combat unit, and he's a lot easier to get than his dad, to boot.  9.5/10 (yes I threw some bias in there)

Bownoka. She has a basic offensive spread of 32/35 and also sports a good Res at base 29, her Hp is low at 37 and she has practically no Def. Hinoka is an offensive unit but also has decent support capabilities thanks to her Res allowing her to use Ploys effectively. Her Prf weapon, Warrior Princess, deals effective damage against armor units and also has Drive Atk built-in. Her default kit focuses on being a support unit for Flier teams due to her skill's heavy emphasis on mobility. This is great when she's in a Flier team but considering how arena works this is a kinda useless niche for the mode. Instead the focus goes towards her ability to deal heavy damage to armor units, well that is until one notices that her Atk isn't high enough to dent the extremely bulky armors without Hone Fliers/Atk Tactic buffs and her pathetic physical bulk make her an easy prey for DC armors (which is like 95% of them). Bownoka is a strong unit, the problem is that her niche doesn't work in the current meta which is true for almost every non B!Lyn archer. Windsweep is an option if one wishes to kill DC armors but keep in mind that this will force the use of a Dancer/Reposition bot on the team.

Rating: 7/10

Ares. His spread focuses on Atk and Def while having meh Spd/Hp and dumping Res. Ares is a very interesting unit, at first glance he just seems like the typical physical tank that will likely lose to Sigurd but that's just looking at the numbers. Ares Prf weapon, Dark Mystletainn, has the Killer effect of reducing the special CD by 1 which allows Ares to use high CD specials like Ignis/Dragon Fang or go for a 2CD Bonfire/Draconic Aura. This in itself is good but nothing unique, what puts this weapon apart from the competition is that after Ares procs his Special this weapon will reduce the CD by 2, this makes Ares a Special spamming machine (note that it doesn't work on Galeforce, so no 1 turn shenanigans for him), with his high Def he can throw very powerful Bonfires turn after turn which is ridiculous to say the least. Ares weaknesses come from two sources, his meh Hp/Spd mean that many units will double and kill him easily, and his non-existant Res makes him an easy prey for Mages/Dragons with the latter being one of the most common in arena. Also, Ares performance is kinda subpar before he fires his first special and due to how fast paced arena is this can put Ares in a terrible spot more often than not.

Rating: 8/10

Hinoka

First flying archer, with a decent 32/35 stat spread. Her main options aren't too different from other archers with the exception of having access to a prf bow that does effective damage against armor units. This alone allows her to break past the units that give archers the most trouble, though her Atk stat means that she will usually need 2 attacks to kill an armor, and would prefer to be in desperation range to avoid a distant counter to her poor physical bulk.

However she still has problems denting dragons and bulky infantry, and lacks the raw power of flying bladetomes making her a rather niche pick for a flier team.

7.5/10

Ares

His weapon is as ridiculous as it looks. It basically lets him have 3 turn specials permanently active, giving him amazing 1 hit killing potential on both phases, and goes extremely well with vantage and distant counter, though DC does drop his damage output due to taking the A slot. Vantage lets him nuke enemies before they get a chance to hit him, though his poor speed means that if they do survive he won't be making another attack and may get doubled.

The main problem is getting him to charge his first special, hindering his first round combat potential, but there are ways to circumvent this like quickened pulse, quick riposte or heavy blade sacred seals.

Mages aren't as much of a problem as his Res would suggest as DC vantage lets him kill them before they can get a hit off, though he does have to reach that HP threshold first. It's dragons that he needs to worry about more.

Overall like swordhardt, he has great mixed phase performance and synergy with DC, making him an excellent pick for a horse team, and a great choice for a sword unit on mixed teams as well. If availability was a criteria he would score even higher due to being demoted but since it isn't, he gets a solid 9/10

Hinoka - Armorslaying bow that comes with Drive Attack and a speed boost allowing her to reach the top speed of any archer alongside Brave Lyn when she keeps Mulagir. She also comes with a healthy amount of Res for Def Ploy should you swap for a firesweep bow. Only through Def Ploy will she match Summer Takumi in a similar build. Personally I would keep the personal weapon and try on windsweep to avoid deadly counterattacks from armor units. As long as you take an HP bane, Hinoka will have a BST tier higher than the average archer. 8.5 out of 10.

Ares - Imagine this guy getting demoted to 4 star and you still haven't summoned him despite voting for him in BOTH CYLs. Abstain since I can't remain impartial with this traitor.

Hinoka

  • Offense-focused stat line, featuring good Spd, decent Atk and Res, and poor Def.
    • Warrior Princess (Spd +3, effective against fliers and armors, built-in Drive Atk 2) is a solid weapon for both combat and support.
    • Strong offense matchups with a basic Warrior Princess set with Hone Fliers and Desperation active. She will have trouble with dragons. Strongly benefits from Fortify Fliers or Atk Ploy support (she is fairly capable of providing the latter, if necessary). She can also pull off a Brave or Firesweep set. Armor effectiveness gives her a decent combat niche, but she must find her way into Desperation range first.
    • She can check mages with her decent Res stat on defense, but is better suited to an offensive role.
  • As a flier, she can provide flier field/combat buffs. She has some stat ploy capability with her decent Res stat. If used, Warrior Princess provides a solid Atk boost to allies within 2 spaces.

Overall, I give her 7.5 for combat (strong offense matchups with a Warrior Princess set, with sustainability through Desperation), and 3 for support (flier field/combat buffs, stat ploy capability, bonus stat support through Warrior Princess), for a total rating of 8/10.

Ares

  • Physically focused stat line, with good Atk and Def, mediocre Spd, and poor Res.
    • Dark Mystletainn (Accelerates Special trigger, if special triggers before or during combat, grants Special cooldown count-2 after combat) is a strong defensive weapon, opening up such options as Vantage+Bonfire.
    • Strong green, passable red matchups with an offense-stacking set on the player phase. Strong green, passable red matchups with a fully charged Bonfire when using a Distant Counter set. Very strong green, strong red matchups with a fully charged Bonfire when using a Brazen Atk/Def set (and Brazen Atk/Def is active).
    • Very strong green, ok red matchups with a DC set on defense with full HP, and strong green, passable red matchups when Bonfire is fully charged and Vantage is active. He must be cautious of reds, as many of them will double him and shred him with a special activation. Very strong green and red one-range matchups when in Brazen Atk/Def range and starting with a fully charged Bonfire. He will not be able to cut through very bulky reds. Sustainability through Dark Mystletainn/Vantage (for either set).
  • As a cavalry unit, he can provide cavalry field/combat buffs.

Overall, I give him 8.5 for combat (very strong green and red one-range matchups, sustainability bonus), and 1 for support (cavalry field/combat buff), for a total rating of 8/10.

Scoring method:

Spoiler

Units are evaluated based on both their combat performance and their team support capabilities (i.e. their whole contribution to a team).

  • Combat performance is judged by matchups, especially against enemies that are at triangle disadvantage or neutral to the unit. Performance against more relevant meta threats is more valuable than performance against units that are rarely seen. Triangle Adept sets are not considered, though they might be noted. Scale of 0 to 10.
    • Sustainability and filling a useful niche are given small bonuses, when applicable.
    • I will look at least one PP-focused and one EP-focused skill set for each unit, but only evaluate based on performance for whichever phase I deem the unit to be stronger on.
  • Support capabilities are decided by how much support a unit can provide (without horribly compromising their combat capabilities), and how valuable I feel that support is. Scale of 0 to 3.
  • At the end, the combat and support scores will be weighted (with a heavy focus on combat performance), combined, and rounded to the nearest .5 to obtain the total rating. Dancers and Singers will get +1 point to their total rating (not to exceed 10), because I value Dance/Sing utility highly.

This method of evaluation essentially compares each unit to a hypothetical "god unit" who is stellar at everything, instead of each unit to each other.

All my ratings.

Blue-Sky Warrior Hinoka

Spoiler

I'm mostly assuming here due to... circumstances, but Hinoka, being the first flying Bow unit, set some standards that were actually very easy to follow. Decent Attack, good Speed, useless Defense, and meh Resistance and HP.

Warrior Princess comes with Speed +3 to bring her speed up even further, and also boasts Drive Atk as part of it's arsenal. More importantly, it also deals effective damage to Armored foes, in addition to Flying foes. The rest of Hinoka's kit is built around getting flying allies near her to trigger Atk/Spd Bond. Flier Formation let's Hinoka get close to her allies, while Flier Guidance lets ally Fliers position around Hinoka. She also comes with Luna, which is a pretty good Special to have by default. Certainly helps to take down armors.

While Warrior Princess is good, it still has flaws, and those flaws may convince you to consider a different weapon. Well, you have options in either the Brave Bow, which when paired with Hone Fliers means the enemy will have a hard time hiding from the arrow rain, and Firesweep Bow, which makes it impossible for the enemy to counterattack. Atk/Spd Bond can be replaced with Life and Death, since Hinoka's defensive ability isn't exactly stellar anyways. When you replace Atk/Spd Bond, there's really not much reason to keep Flier Formation, so it can be dropped for, say, Desperation on the Brave Bow set, or really any B skill with the Firesweep Bow, though Poison Strike ensures the enemy is really buttered up for the killing blow. As for Flier Guidance, keep it or don't. It's a decent support skill, but you can also always replace it with a flier buff. Goad Fliers can stack with Warrior Princess and Drive Atk, so consider that to!

The bads. Warrior Princess is somewhat underwhelming as a Personal Weapon with armor effectiveness, thanks to Hinoka's Attack being so average. Without some serious buffs, the high Defense of Armors, as well as their high Attack, will generally spell certain doom for the low defense Hinoka, unless she has Desperation triggered. Besides that, her average Attack means that she isn't quite as strong as some other Bow users who are either on the ground or on a horse. Without support from other fliers, Hinoka is just kinda... meh.

Still good, just meh. Do consider putting her on a Flier team. She was built for an air raid.

Rating: 8/10 While not quite as strong as some other bows, Hinoka does come with the benefit of good speed and a few alternate options in the Brave Bow and Firesweep Bow, though Warrior Princess can still be used if Hinoka can get buff quickly. Her low defense means she really only has one shot to take down an Armor unit, so consider making her as strong as possible beforehand.

Ares

Spoiler

Why was Ares the one to drop to 4*...? Considering the power behind Dark Mystletainn, it really doesn't make sense.

Anyways, the Lionheart Spawn is a stronger and faster, though slightly less bulky, much more sickly, and just as resilient version of his father. Though not able to wield Mystletainn, he does come with the veeery powerful Dark Mystletainn. Cutting his Special Charge down by 1, it also has the effect of speeding up Special Charge by 2 when his Special triggers in prior combat. Because of this, Ares will always have a 3 cooldown Special ready for the next round of combat, such as Bonfire or his default Draconic Aura.

Speaking of which, Brazen Atk/Def, the skill he carried with him to 4*, can turn a decent powered Bonfire into a potently deadly Bonfire. Seal Def/Res isn't exactly notable, but it does try to help Ares finish off a weakened foe. While Draconic Aura is a decent 3 charge Special to pair with Dark Mystletainn, it will eventually deal less damage than Bonfire can.

So replace Draconic Aura with Bonfire. Also consider giving Ares Vantage to make it so he will always attack first, with the boost from Brazen Atk/Def, and land one deadly blow charged by both a Brazen Atk/Def boosted normal strike and a Brazen Atk/Def boosted Bonfire off 33 base Defense.  Ares can also carry Distant Counter, as that means most mages and bows won't be able to get one attack in before they are Bonfired to death.

So the bads are simple. Ares having lower HP and the resistance of a sponge inside an active sawblade forest means most magic users will have him dead before he can even begin to trigger his Bonfire-Vantage combo. His Speed is decent, but it's not really high enough to avoid being doubled by the most popular of Lances and Blue Mages. Also worth keeping in mind is that Ares need his Special to trigger before it begins triggering Dark Mystletainn's effect, else you may as well just be using a fancy Slaying Edge...

Overall, Ares is one of the deadlier units we've gotten in a while, and one who breathes life into the otherwise somewhat niche Vantage skill.

Rating: 8/10 With both Attack and Bulk that equate powerful attacks and powerful Bonfire triggers, having Dark Mystletainn to back it all up will lead to Ares not giving the enemy a chance to attack before rending them defeated in one strike. Mages are a problem, but that's not really a new problem to his lineage...

Hinoka: The first flying archer, and one that doesn't really disappoint. Her speed and resistance are pretty great, and the bonuses of +3 speed, effectiveness against cavalry and armors, and a built-in Drive make Warrior Princess a good weapon. But her health is super low and her defense is nonexistent, so she MUST one-shot any unit she attacks, otherwise she's definitely not going to fare well. 8/10

Ares: Ares really powercreeped his dad. He's improved basically all across the board. Dark Mystletainn is fantastic, and he comes standard with Brazen skills. But much like his father, his resistance is pitiful. Still, though, his offensive prowess is so high, resistance is such a common stat to have as a bane, and he's readily available at lower rarities than the ever-rare 5-star rarity, and you got yourself one of the best cavalry units in the game. 8.5/10

I won't mention Bownoka simply because I don't have her and I won't use S!Takumi as references for this:

  • Ares: His father has a few points more on HP, Defense and Res, but what does his son have? High Attack stat, respectable speed stat at 30, not the best but it's still good, he does have a decent physical bulk of 73 but terrible 58 magical bulk, he already has Brazen Atk/Def which already synergizes well with him and his weapon is better than his father's in not only having a -1 Cooldown, but also lowering any special so long as it's activating before or during battle by 2, sure his father also has it with refinery, but Ares started it first and if given Vantage, oh boy, this is going to be fun, 8/10

Bownoka - For Skill Inheritance she has Atk/Spd Bond 3, which is a 5 star exclusive skill only found on one other unit that's seasonal and limited so she's very useful. Flier Formation is decent, but she's not worth sacrificing for that. 6/10 for Skill Inheritance. (5%)

Combat wise she is amazing. Her base kit alone gives her an awesome bow that's effective not only against other fliers which is great because her mobility allows her to reach out for those fliers, but also the effectiveness against armors can be decent sometimes especially against armors that don't have Distant Counter. There's the addition of flier buffs that helps her use her special bow to it's full advantage, and due to her decent Spd Bownoka can run other builds like Firesweep builds. 8/10 for combat. (95%)

Overall: 8/10

The True Lion King Ares - For Skill Inheritance he's the go to guy for Brazen Atk/Def, and he's available at 4 stars (though I haven't gotten him still, sigh). 10/10 for Skill Inheritance

Combat wise Ares is very effective thanks to Dark Mystletainn. His Atk is decently high that he can use his prf weapon with DC, Vantage and QR to enter a round of combat to trigger his special, and then have it forever for the rest of the match. With Vantage and his special always up he accomplishes a better Vantage utility than almost any other unit (other than WoT Reinhardt). The only problem is his Res, but if we're talking about 1-range match-ups Ares does amazingly well, and his Spd isn't even that low so he can prevent follow-ups from slightly faster units than him, as well as double incredibly slow tanks. 9/10 for combat.

Overall: 9/10

Let me just say that these characters have a good artwork IMO:

  • Lene: She has 1 less point on BST than Olivia, is the fastest dancer in the permanent pool, a great weapon that will work well if she's also given defensive skills like Brazen Atk/Def or Close Def, making her low def not so low, having the ability to dance is already good on her to be a good support unit, especially with Firestorm Dance and Earth Dance Seal, she can potentially buff 4 stats in one turn to a single ally, for those who are for arena points, Lene won't give you much, but if not, she's a great support unit and a great physical tank if given the correct skills, 7/10

  • Ishtar: Every odd turns, on the player phase, units should fear her completely, 34/36 on her offensive stats are no joke in a matter, her weapon Thor's Hammer Mjölnir giving her not only -1 cooldown on special, but it also gives her Darting Blow 3, the reason why she's dangerous on PH on odd turns is because Odd Attack Wave gives her and her allies +6 attack on odd numbered turns, with Swift Sparrow, she can gain +10 Atk and Spd in the player phase, her defenses are a little on the low side, having a bulk of 55/64 is typical for a mage, she can't take that many hits at all, but if you want a strong and fast blue mage, she's the one for you, 8/10

Lene. She has a focus on Spd with above average Res, she's mediocre everywhere else. Lene is a great unit by virtue of being a dancer, sadly she faces direct competition from Olivia and she doesn't have enough to differentiate herself outside of 2 points of Spd. Olivia has higher availability and easy access to good natures so yeah. Lene has a better base kit but that matters not in an optimal setting so that doesn't offer her any kind of advantages over Olivia. What I'm trying to say is that both are practically the same, although Olivia's higher Def gives her and slight edge over Lene.

Rating: 8/10

I'll abstain from rating Ishtar. I kinda have an idea of how she works but I'd need to test her in order to give a precise rating.

Ares - I'm going to gush.  Please run if you don't want to see that.

*boots squelch while walking in* Eughh....

Lene - All dancers have 33-35 speed with the lone exception of Shigure, but Lene is top of the pack. What sucks is that Lene is a BST tier lower than her direct competition of Olivia. Though taking a Def superboon just to rectify that may sound appropriate if you're keeping her safeguard, then the Res superbane is not an option, nor even attack. All in all, I have to rate her precisely as high as Olivia. 7 out of 10.

Ishtar -  Ishtar has a competitive statline, modern BST, and a personal weapon that...maybe competes with a blade tome. Reduced cooldown with Darting Blow pairs well with the Swift Sparrow and moonbow in her base kit so I'm not surprised most players have kept this weapon around. Furthermore, her blade performance is less than Mae, Lute, Delthea, and even Linde. Her stat distribution also focuses HP which does nothing for her. 6.5 out of 10.

Lene

  • Somewhat balanced stat line, with good Spd, decent Res, and low/mediocre Atk and Def.
    • She's probably best off using a Ruby Sword to check greens. For a generalist set, she can pull off a Wo Dao+ set, with decent green and mediocre red matchups.
  • She can provide Dance support for her teammates. She also has some stat ploy capability with her decent Res stat. She can provide Dancer buff support through her B slot.

Overall, I give her 5.5 for combat (decent green, mediocre red matchups on defense), 3 for support (Dance, stat ploy, field/combat buff support through her C, Seal, and possibly B slots), and +1 bonus point for Dance utility, for a total rating of 7/10.

Ishtar

  • Offense focused stat line, featuring good Atk and Spd, passable Res, and poor Def.
    • Mjölnir (Accelerates Special trigger, built-in Darting Blow 3) is a powerful offensive tool.
    • Very strong red, strong blue matchups on offense with a standard offense-stacking set using Mjölnir or Blárblade+ (though the latter is buff-dependent). Sustainability through Desperation.
    • Relatively poor defensive matchups due to her low defensive stat line.
  • She can provide basic field/combat buff support for her teammates.

Overall, I give her 8.5 for combat (very strong red, strong blue matchups on offense, sustainability bonus), and .5 for support (basic field/combat buff), for a total rating of 8/10.

Abstain from Lene, don't have her.

Ishtar: Basically, if she initiates combat, you lose. Unless you have some pretty darn strong builds. She's pretty powerful all-round, with her only truly bad stat being the ever-common one for mages: defense. Mjölnir is fantastic, and she's definitely good enough to run any other tome should you want her to. She's a good check for other blue mages, and she can even win rounds against some green mages with fairly minimal building. She's great. 9/10

I've only used them in VGs

Lene- 7/10 Good dancer, decent base kit. Shame she's gold-locked iirc.

Ishtar- 9/10 holy fuck what a nuke.

Ishtar is like one of the few things I want, despite Reinhardt and Linde existing. Her base kit is monstrous, and she's a threat on PP. Squishy as fuck, but if you're not like Titania or something, then you're easily fucking dead.

still, blue mages are just so stupidly good in general. well..except maybe for Oliver. His beauty does offset everything however.

Lene

Spoiler

To be completely honest, I was very close to abstaining from rating Lene, because at the end of the day she is just a rarer Olivia.

Same Attack, better Speed and Resistance, worse HP and Defense. The boost in Speed may matter more than a drop in Defense, and Lene does come with the Safeguard sword to more or less mitigate the loss of Defense, on enemy phase anyways. But assuming the two have the exact same boon/bane and skill builds, the differences will be so small that you barely notice anyways.

The rest of Lene's kit, besides the obvious Dance, is unique. Firestorm Dance provides +3 Atk and Spd field buff to a danced ally, letting them better defeat enemies after their first attack, while Sword Valor, which is useless in a serious battle, at least saves you the trouble of putting it on Olivia or Sky Olivia.

Safeguard stacks with Close Defense, so if you need Lene to survive a lot of melee hits for some reason, a Defense refine and Close Defense will make her the physically bulkiest dancer available to you. Firestorm Dance is decent, but Wings of Mercy/Escape Route will both let Lene perform her refreshing role better by expanding her range of movement. For C passives, anything works really. For Specials, Lene can run Bonfire if you choose to Defense-stack her.

Any bads said about Olivia more or less translate the same here for Lene. The only thing Lene has going against her that Olivia doesn't is that she is a much rarer unit, so you are far more likely to have Olivia safely built before even seeing Lene.

So Lene is another Dancer who has the potential to be one of the most Defensive dancers available. That's a unique point. Shame Olivia can be very defensive to, at least if she steals Safeguard from Lene...

Rating: 7.5/10 Lene feels too much like Olivia to even try and fairly rate them differently. A few changes in stats does little to remove the comparisons, and having a better supportive base kit further fails to remove the comparisons when remembering Olivia can learn all the same skills. Still, Lene does come with the good Safeguard sword, letting her be more defensive than Olivia.

Ishtar

Spoiler

Make way for the Thighs- I mean, Goddess of Thunder. Coming in at above-average Attack and good Speed, with rock-bottom Defense and passable HP and Resistance, it is Ishtar.

Mjolnir is the cornerstone of Ishtar being as good as she can be, having both a Killer Weapon effect and Darting Blow 3 built into it. On top of Swift Sparrow by default, Ishtar is a lot faster than she looks, and she's already pretty fast. Vantage is a bit of a questionable skill on her, since she doesn't really have any killing potential on enemy phase, but it's a nice thought for what it is. Moonbow pairs well with the Special speedup effect, and helps Ishtar get the damage she may need to secure a kill. Lastly is the very odd Odd Attack Wave, giving +6 Attack when it is an odd-numbered turn (1, 3, 5, 7, etc). Patches up her Attack being average and becoming much better, though not consistently enough that it may be reliable.

Ishtar being fast can let her outspeed the overly-speedy Sword units that pollute the game. Swift Sparrow doesn't need to be kept, and is replaceable with Life and Death or even Darting Blow for higher Speed opportunities, while Fury can help her enter range for 75% HP trigger B passives. Vantage doesn't need to be kept at all, and is replaceable with skills such as Chill Res or Desperation, notably Desperation. A Breaker skill isn't necessary, but can at least disable Quick Riposte/Vengeful Fighter on certain foes. Odd Attack Wave can be replaced with Even Speed Wave if you really need Ishtar to outspeed +Spd Karla.

Ishtar is vulnerable to physical attacks and dragons. Most of the strongest foes who can OHKO her also tend to pack Distant Counter, so it's not like she is safe at a range either. Even with Odd Atk Wave triggered, Ishtar is not the strongest Blue Mage, so she needs to rely on Desperation to get the maximum amount of damage out in a short amount of time, or else she usually won't secure the kill. Lastly, Ishtar isn't really able to drop Mjolnir that easily, it being one of the few tomes with the Killer Weapon effect and making her as fast as she is. She CAN theoretically drop it for Tomes like Blessed Bouquet or Juicy Wave, but both are seasonal weapons and are rare as-is.

Still, there is nothing to be really worried about if Ishtar graces you with her thi- I mean presence. Her power is not low whatsoever, and her speed can cleanly counter even the fastest Swords.

Rating: 8/10 One of the fastest units in the game thanks to Mjolnir and a good Speed stat by default, even able to outspeed most Swords. Ishtar also manages to not shy away from power, though at the cost of not very much defensive capability. Being a Tome user with the Killer effect isn't to be overlooked either.
