Mercenary on the Winds Posted March 30 Author Share Posted March 30 (edited) Everyone else was getting into the thick of it, and the enemy's numbers seemed to be piling up, but things looked handled, so Nyx did what she did best, pick locks--there was a door in front of them, and from the looks of things, there were prisoners inside. The guards were toast, so it was time to swooce on in, and, "Th'Fuck?" Nyx slipped her tools in, and they didn't budge, no click, no jiggling, no nothing. Nyx tried harder, but her tools weren't working the way they normally did, "Ah, fuck it." Nyx pulled back, notched an arrow and fired it at the lock, and whether she'd planned for it to work or not, the lock came undone, and the door creaked open. "Always wit th' right touch~ Awright, hurry up! Yer lucky day fer a jail break!" Nyx looked inside, and first her eyes fell onto the large man missing a part of his arm, "Hell... Y'ain't wit' th' sheep's crew, issya?" He wasn't going to be moving too quickly that was for sure, but there was one person who's eyes snapped to hers as she walked in. There was malice in those eyes, anger, hatred, but despite her eyes being locked on hers, it wasn't pointed at her. "Oi, ye good te move? Ain't got time te' waste!" ENEMY PHASE TURN 4! The fighting only seemed to get louder and louder; even with the movement of his forces, the fighting only seemed to intensify. Vermeil had half a mind to head out himself, but Krystal was out there, and if nothing else, the cow was certainly tenacious. Somehow someone like her had survived in Kazran's employ, especially with Cereza breathing down her neck, so if there was any reason for him to be concerned, she would return to him. The attackers would kill her for betraying her kind, that much he was certain of, so there wasn't much to fear. He just needed to hold position. Perhaps it would be prudent of him to send someone to inform Kazran of the attack, "Bah... what am I so unsure of? Giovanna failed us, a woman, and one who seeks the touch of the damn beasts... I'm one of Kazran's handpicked. Failure is not something that I know, nor plan too..." Vermeil turned to one of his men, "Hurry up, and rouse everyone! We'll swarm them until they cornered like the damned beasts they are!" The fleet of armors advanced at pace, hurrying towards the clashing steel, and the booming thunder. "Truly ghastly... No matter, sally forth men! We are to collect the captives, and slay all who approach!" The Lizard woman looked at Nyx, and then hurried over to Istavion, "Ask the damned questions later! They're coming for us, and you!" All the cell doors have been opened! Fighter 2 engages Cass! [31, 66] The man's axe careens helplessly wide! Cass counters! [14, 39], [53, 18] Cass's axe proved to be far more dangerous, as she downed the man for attempting to strike at her! Cass gains 14 EXP, and +3 Axe Merc 6 charges for Owen! "Die you worthless fool!" "You got it, Versaris! Brave yourself, shit cakes! I'm gonna burn you all!" Alvira to 6,19, light equipped! The fighting was getting closer-- close enough to kill the guards in their cell. M wasn't wasting a single moment of energy, a single breath. As soon as those doors opened... "Run! Now!" She didn't feel like she deserved to give orders to these two anymore, but it was what the moment demanded, M not even stopping to thank the woman that had opened her cell. M to 12,20 "Give me a gun!" Now, her eyes fell on their would be saviour, the white dots swimming in her onyx pools drilling into her with a focus so intense it would set lesser men on fire. "A gun! Revolver, rifle, firearm... Give me something to shoot! I will have them all for what they have done to myself and my own!" There was a certain vibration, an odd trill to her voice, like two voices spoke at once in almost perfect unison... Clack clack. Then the clicking, something moving behind the mask covering her mouth. "Anything will do, so long as it fires! And if it doesn't, I will make it fire..." "Tch..." One of the swordsmen had gone for her brother, but he was a competent man, handling himself with the grace and fluidity befitting someone of his station. Unfortunately, much as she wished to charge head first into the men that had just come down the halls... She was bleeding rather profusely, glancing around for another healer. "Damned magic won't work on myself... Brother you can handle yourself for the moment. I need someone to fix this... You! In the big hat!" Cass to 18,19 "Fix this, would you? All you mage types know how to use staffs too, right?" Sylmaria turned her attention to the doors opening and doubled back, eyes falling on someone with a missing arm. "One of the pirates...?" No time to discern, they wouldn't be fighting with an injury like that, but with the room open they could spread out further and handle these forces more easily. Roxanne breathed a relieved sigh, releasing a breath she hadn't realized she had been holding as the healing light washed over her, closing the gruesome wound across her chest. Stopping for just a moment to allow her armour to reform, the Iron Tigers had continued to move into position, with Jeremiah's protege leading the charge and Alvira not far behind him. Taking a small step forward, Roxanne pulsed Alvira with her healing staff for a second time. "Keep at top form, we'll crush them all-" Roxanne began, when a familiar... familiar and livid voice reached her ears, causing them to twitch as she snapped her head back down the hallway, eyes locking onto a familiar figure just rounding the corner of a door that had just been forced open. "M? M! You- You're alive!" ... No. M froze, her demands quieting in her throat, head slowly turning to... "... Roxanne." I can't. Not right now. Not with her... I need to focus. I need to fight. "We... We can talk later. I am alive... Breathing, thinking, fighting. There are... There, are th-three of us left." Clack clack. Her voice's trill grew tighter, grew thinner, clearly biting back feelings and emotions that she couldn't afford to have escape her. "I am alive. I will fight. I will fight until they kill me... They made the mistake of leaving me alone, and I intend to repay them for that. That mistake, error, choice... And when they are dead, if you wish me gone for what I have done, then I will face your wrath all the same." "Three..." Roxanne resisted the urge to bury her face in her hands... that three were alive was better than she had expected in the pit of her stomach, but the weight that any hope of the others... it was crushing, like the castle's ceiling falling and coming to a stop on her chest. Syndra had followed up, getting in a position to help pick off any of the fools that would be unfortunate enough to survive fighting the two of them, when she heard the conversation Roxanne was having with someone who exited the room Nyxied had opened. "Roxanne, is that the captain you were talking about?" She could see someone who looked like some manner of insect woman, and they were hurt badly. Kazran's idea of 'fun' probably. "They should probably stick with us for now, the Commander isn't likely going to slow her advance to give her a chance to catch-up, and we can't just let her roam a battlefield unarmed. If what she had on her was valuable, Kazran might have it locked up nearby." That and I don't think you could stand worrying about her getting hurt and not being able to do anything about it again, especially after you saw the state of the boat she rode in on... Still, it was good - she was nearing the front now, where she did her work best. Laniva to (23, 17), Iron Greatsword Merc 6. Seila sighed internally; what an assumption to make - though... at least in her case, it was far from incorrect. And in any case, she wasn't feeling much like correcting the woman when she was rather significantly injured, drawing a staff from one of the belts on her robes. "Just a moment. Not much time was afforded to it with a foe right in front of him, but another of the Tigers came his way to strike him from the back. "Unfortunately, too many men are showing up, best to not use that passage and circumvent around." "I fight." Another voice interjected, Üllr was tending the last of his wounds and moved forward to the intersection between hallways, blocking the narrow passage. Surprised, Owen stared at the short brawler for a moment. "Uh. Are you sure? It's best to draw them in, you're much too ahead--" "No. I fight. Can't all come at once from here." Chakrams ready once more, Üllr adopted his fighting stance. "...Well, let me provide you some backup, then. Here, take care of your wounds with this." Owen holds, equip wind edge. Üllr to (22,18), trade scythe knuckles for owen's vuln, vuln up. "Doors open, nice. Wonder what that fella's doing there... not one of them for sure. JakezuGD Posted April 1 Share Posted April 1 (edited) Though their group managed to clear out that wave of opposition fairly easily thanks to Sylmaria's powerful assist, the next one was already approaching, the defenders obviously not making it easy for them. At the same time, the cell they'd passed by earlier opened up, and even if they couldn't find any new allies to bring with, they could maneuver to better positions. Fortunately, the group in front of Tasha had some of the Tigers' most resilient fighters - Laniva, Miria and Üllr - as well as Owen to command them if necessary, allowing her to break alongside the irate dragon and the other Gaffney to see what they can get done. "You handle keeping that side at bay, Boss!" The tiger gave her tactical decision and turned around to cover for Cass while she was healed. Calling any form of royalty besides Iseria her boss, much less an Islexian warlord, was a new feeling for Natalya, but not one she actually minded in the slightest. The short time they'd spent talking had dispelled her apprehension about his motives regarding this assault, and even if he had a fox's tail under his arm in some sense, the ideal and possibility of an Islexia that welcomed Clouded was too good to pass up on. Natalya moves to 17-20. Speaking of which, the jail cell had a Clouded in it, grievously wounded by the look of things... if that injury was fresh, there was a solid chance they were a survivor of the attack, and Tasha could hear impassioned dialogue from the other side of the wall as well, ears rapidly pivoting around to try and keep up situational awareness. M was up, and away the moment hope came through the door, a tall, tanned woman with a not-unfamiliar accent--a good amount of the boys spoke in a similar dialect, so it was simple enough to pick up on. Nyx blinked as the captive was less appreciative, and more incensed demanding a gun, or something. "Uh, I ain't be th' one to ask. Boss won' let me near those, hell they barely--" Kika stepped up next to the pair, "I can handle that," And presented M with an old revolver, "Don't ask what possessed me. Just felt like we might have needed more bullets, you know? Was waiting for the right time, and it seems like it's right no--" Kika then gasped audibly, "Roxanne?!" The visible change in M was palpable, almost soul crushing to watch, and hear. They were supposed to wait for her, and from the sounds of it, she'd brought an entire force--a devastating force with how quickly they appeared to be cutting their way through Kazran's forces. Kika didn't make eye contact the entire time that they spoke, only looking up as Roxanne walked away. Kika forced the revolver into M's hand, "...I'll get Istavion to the rear, and we'll get out of your way, boss. Make them pay. Make them all pay." Kika then found her way to Roxanne, and placed a hand on the sheep's shoulder, "...I'm sorry. I... I should have stopped her, and trusted that you would make it. Don't... Don't take it all out on M when this is over. Please." Kika then rushed off to find Istavion. Nyx scratched her head, and then looked up as the rear doors clicked, "Hell, back up! Th' coming!" Istavion looked up as the feline clouded now shouting at him, armed with a rifle--that had to mean that they were either somehow Lufirian, or Glacian in nature. The man shook his head, "Three... me, the boss, and Kika... Just us... maybe some upstairs... don't know, don't know..." ENEMY PHASE TURN 5! The doors swung up, and armored men armed to the teeth peered inside, "Damn! The prisoners are escaping! The prisoners are-- What?" One of the men's eyes fell on Nyx, "A human?! Who are you wi--" The other knight put his sword out in front of his companion. "What does that question matter? A human is here amongst our attackers, and they are freeing the prisoners. We were sent to escort them to their deaths, and as men of Islexia, we do not falter on our mission." The man pointed his sword at the escaping prisoners, "Lord Kazran won't mind if they're all dead by the time we present them to him! Charge, forward!" "Ohhhhhhh, fuck, c-come on, hey! Heyyy! You're not supposed to escape!" The worst had come, the prisoners were being freed by these attackers... And they were getting away! It would be her ass on the line if they actually got out! "Geez, uhhhhhh... H-Heyyy~! Time to strut your stuff, big guy!" She slapped her hand onto the armored man's back and slipped past him. "You enjoy that, go stop them, yeah?" Armor 4 will have brave effect for their next attack! Brawler 1 tries their luck with Sari... to no avail as they can't even connect Sari counters! [19, 1] The moment was so swift, so decisive that it almost felt like it was Sari who had attacked, and not the man who was no longer. Critical! Sari gains 26 EXP, and +2 Sword EXP! The group of men watch as Versaris completely evicerated one of their own... and decide that targeting Versaris is not worth the effort, instead focusing on Roxanne! Sword Armor 2 attacks Roxanne! [24, 85] The blade once again cleaved through Roxanne's crystalline armor, but the effect was different, a burning, searing pain, rather then the crushing blow shattering her armor! 25 damage! Roxanne counters! [2, 95], [71, 81] both spells connect for a combined 36 damage! 30 EXP, and +3 Light EXP! Due to a mistake in calculation, Brawler 4 and 5 are now also capable of attacking Roxanne and do so! Brawler 4 swings first! [12, 47], [19, 6] both punches land cleanly for a combined 6 damage! Roxanne counters! [51, 44], [43, 18] Two blasts of magic later, and Brawler 4 has been downed! Roxanne gains 30 EXP, and +3 Light EXP Brawler 5 then steps in! [11, 60] She blasts once, ready to fire again... but conspicuously, the first blast was enough to finish the man off. On second glance the man was already injured! What more was there to say, really? Roxanne could only hope M would stick still long enough to have her wounds mended, but it was hard to say what she would do now that she was free. Given the opportunity to attack her captors, M would likely take it regardless of her wounds. Roxanne flinched at the hand upon her shoulder, the tension breaking as a familiar voice followed it. "Kika... I don't blame you. None of us... none of us could have stopped her. I know that. I'm glad that you're alive. I don't... I don't know what I'll do, aside from drag her back in one piece, even if it kills me." The sheep shook her head, about to heal the agile lizard, but Kika had already dashed off before she had the chance. Didn't even give her the chance to ask who the third survivor was... But she couldn't dwell on it. The enemy was upon them, and with how effortlessly Versaris had dispatched the first challenger, they had opted to fall onto her instead. "If you think you're safer with me- GHRK?!" Roxanne had been about to voice her threat, but the monster blade cutting through her armour and tearing into her magic circuits had stolen the words from her. It hurt. It hurt so much. But it wasn't enough. None of these men's blades would be enough. The faces of the fallen flashed in Roxanne's mind... they were all gone. All but one more left unknown. Her vengeance would not be quelled by some wicked tool, not so quickly. Grabbing the armoured man before he could retreat his blade, Roxanne's conduits effortlessly disarmed him before the blade of light sprung forth from her wrist, skewering the knight clean through the chest as he dropped lifelessly before her. The other two, they came at her with gauntlets bared, swinging their fists at her, but she could hardly even feel the blows. Compared to the throbbing, awful pain pulsating through the core of her mana, these pathetic blows were nothing, and without even acknowledging the men, they too fell at her feet, scorched and returned to the earth. The sheep's eyes wildly darting from soldier to soldier... no one else was engaging. They had approached, but she had room to breathe for a moment. Versaris advised... it sounded more like a command to be honest, that she hold. He was right, she knew he was, even if she wanted nothing more than to dole out the pain wracking her frame into any beast of a man whose neck she could wrap her hands around. The Tigers were already surging forward to remove the approaching soldiers and cover her at the same time, giving Roxanne a moment to glance at M. Kika had given her a gun, which meant she would join the fray momentarily. Lifting her newest purchase from the bazaar towards M, the physic began to glow, mending M's wounds from afar. With that, she could only hope that M would be slightly less reckless than Roxanne herself had been. These people were horrible, but they were warmongers like their leader, meaning they at least knew when they were outmatched and when to charge others. The pinkette knew it would hurt her especially, but the twist in her expression really sold how impactful the weapon was. Given her own heritage she was afraid of being attacked by the same weapon, but thankfully she didn't have to worry about that for the moment. The sheep's counterattack was fierce and unforgiving, and her assailants were floored immediately. Roxanne stood as the victor, albeit an incredibly injured one. Sari was determined to lead the pack with Alvira not far behind him, which gave the healer a moment to tend to the sheep. She quickly rushed to Roxanne's side and used a Mend on her severe wound. "It's no trouble at all, Roxanne. This is why I'm here after all." She looked her in the eye as she channeled her magic through her staff. "Pure weapons are deadly to most of us after all, so don't push yourself even if you feel well after my healing...but if nothing else you really showed them the floor. Good work."
