  1. It's growth dependent in that there aren't any great lategame prepromotes, so if all of your units get screwed on your averages it can get pretty nasty. Also: the MU shit only gets worse and more awkwardly crammed in from here.
  2. I think the trigger is being in range of or killing all of the SM/Hunter/Barb trio? I think it's different in Lunatic than in Maniac and Hard, too.
  3. One thing - it appears that FE8 has a separate pointer table for NPC units; it starts at $5A828C. By default it is filled up with pointers to the null list, but of course you can change it to be whatever you like.
  4. Yes, and they'll stay if you block the escape tile. But since NPC thieves can't pass through enemies, if there's any treasure chests behind an enemy unit the NPC will just walk up to the enemy and stand there. Unless you set them to attack enemies too, which has its own set of problems.
  5. So, I managed to find where FE8 puts its values for escape tiles. You could say Gryz's work inspired me. The earliest set of escape coordinates used are located at $D84E0, and is used by chapters that don't have escaping enemies. There are some escape coordinates before D84E0, up to as early as D83D0, but they don't appear to be used. The pointer table to these escape coordinates is at $5A8188. Otherwise, they follow the same format as FE7's system.
  6. Wow! Props to you for this discovery, man. How did you find this data? I'll try and see if this can be applied to FE8 too, but I have high hopes for it.
  7. Swordmaster Arran was an unexpected sight. He really is the MVP of all teams! Are you planning on seriously using Cord and Gordin? Even with super forges, that sounds like it's going to be a pain. On that note, will you use the How's everyone stuff?
  8. Fe12 is the best fire emblem fyi. The story is a mess, but it's pretty much the only one that encourages you to use your brain to beat all the chapters. Hitrates are generally high, which is nice because you don't have to gamble on 40-60% hit rates, especially after the first two chapters.
  9. Try and go for reliable, reasonably quick clears, I think that's the best test of the midtier characters.
  10. Radd will go Cav->Swordmaster, because I feel sorry for the guy. Lorenz, well, do whatever you want with him. Go Hero if I have to decide. I guess I'll take Linde. Edit: First three chapters! C1: 16(16) Quite a lot harder without chip from Gordin, Cain and Draug. At least they took axes to the face like champs. Marth got a perfect (sans Res) level, which is good since I have the feeling I'm going to have to rely on him for combat. C2: 14(30) Baited pirates with Ogma and the crew, plus Darros who recruits himself. Thanks to the Wing Spear (rip), Caeda got two levels with strength in them, and Marth got another 'perfect' level without any rigging. In fact with Caeda support he was facing 38% hit from Gomer and wasn't doubled, pretty sweet. C3: 12(42) Caeda killed the Hunter and lured the Fighters before recruiting Navarre, Jagen helped Julian survive, and Abel + Marth dispatched most of the enemies west. Caeda and Jagen ferried the Killing Edge over to Marth, who was able to kill Reynard with it due to facing sub-40 hitrates again. The savepoint definitely helped. In light of the forging rules I'm planning on forging a +5mt Iron Sword for Caeda/Julian
  11. Ah. My plan was to forge a +10mt iron sword for Caeda and Julian so they could actually kill things. There should definitely be a limit on effective weapon forges, but idk if other forges should have the same level of restriction. Anyway. I'm taking Beck.
  12. Who knows! I'm picking Vyland. Caesar can be a Pirate -> Horseman and Dolph will be a Hunter -> Hero. ...which means Horace will be the proud owner of a new Merric.
  13. I know your plans PKL, I'm taking Minerva before you can!
  14. Not to complain, but according to the OP the base/promoted class have to have the same physical/magical bent. So Mage->Sage or Archer->Paladin would be fine but not those ones you listed. (I don't mind having both a Bishop and a Sage if you want)
  15. oh whoops, thought I was picking for Baldrick for some reason. Randa can have Berserker Astram. I mean it fits him way better.
  16. Sedgar will stay a Horseman and Cord will be a Pirate/Berserker. Wendell will carry my team, for sure.
  17. Randa's Castor will be Knight -> General. Horace will be a Warrior. I'm taking Julian. checkmate
  18. I tried the fe8 randomizer, and everyone has multiple weapons and items even if they only had one originally. Eirika as a Thief spawned with an Iron Sword, Slim Sword and Goddess Icon, when in vanilla she just starts with a Vulnerary. Gilliam as a Cacalier spawned with two swords and two lances (iron/slim varieties). edit: now Ross as a Lord has an iron sword, slim sword and Speedwings. I can tell you that, in Chapter 16, if you promote your main lord during the ending scene, they'll turn into a Great Lord no matter what they were, since the cutscene promotion explicitly specifies what class to promote them to.
  19. I guess I'll take Abel then! And Randa's Ogma will go Dark Mage/Sorceror.
