I think I left off on the chapter where you recruit Raven but I ragequit because one of the green units killed him before I could recruit him. Bartre has 3 base speed and overall suffers from GBA fighter syndrome. Getting Karla requires raising the aforementioned Bartre to level 5 promoted on a Hector mode run. Also, you get her three levels from the end of the game. Note that Warrior has no speed gain when promoting, meaning Bartre needs to rely completely on his okay-but-not-great speed growth. If you do all this, you then will see Karla in the battle prep chapter. If Bartre talks to her, they will do battle. Both of them must survive (trivial enough if you give him the Iron Rune and equip a bow). After this, your "reward" is... someone who is outclassed by whatever sword infantry units you were using, to put it lightly. Knows what happened to Galarian Darmanitan.
