pianime94
Pretty sure it's either Pokemon or Mario, but don't know which one is more prominent. Zelda comes third I suppose.
Knight
This isn't much of a question, it's Pokemon, Mario or the Wii series (sports, fit).
Roivann
It might depend on whether or not we count spin-offs as part of the franchise. For example, do we count Mario Kart as a Mario game, or is it its own franchise?
Sentacotus
Mario no contest. Just say Nintendo and what do you think of? For that matter say the word videogame and what is the first word out of peoples' mouth?
DragonLord
If by popular, you mean sales, Mario of course.
The Envoy of the Beginning
Mario, no contest. It's one of the longest running video game franchises out there. It's been highly popular since it started in the 80s.Mario is the most popular video game character of all time. Most of their games get mostly positive criticism. In fact, you could go to starving children in a third world country, hold up a picture of Mario, and they will recognize him. Kiseki
I think Pokemon comes first in terms of popularity tbh. Everyone in my area knows Pikachu yet some of them don't recognize Mario.
Gemma
Everyone in my area knows Pikachu yet some of them don't recognize Mario. wait, what?
Lord Raven
I've never heard of that, my sisters have heard of both but never played Pokemon whereas they play a bunch of Mario when they get the chance.
MacLovin
iirc, it seems to go like this. Mario Pokemon LoZ Kirby then the rest.
Shinehollow
Mario's the best selling, while Pokemon's second.I don't know the others.
Zera
I find it useful to count the number of characters from each series in Super Smash Bros. 4. Mario: 9 Zelda: 5 Pokemon: 5 Fire Emblem: 4 Kirby: 3 Kid Icarus: 3 Retro Nintendo: 3 Donkey Kong: 2 Metroid: 2 Star Fox: 2 All other series: 1 Sin and Punishment: 0 Although I don't remember Fire Emblem or Kid Icarus being so popular... Emeraldfox
Well, Fire Emblem is gaining popularity, Kid Icarus might be too especially with Uprising on sale.
Zera
Well, Fire Emblem is gaining popularity, Kid Icarus might be too especially with Uprising on sale. Actually, my observations are even more accurate if you remove the clone characters. Speaking of which, did you know that each clone character has only appeared in just one game? Lord Raven
Though Star Fox lost a rep while fire emblem gained two between games. Is this because FE13 sold a lot while star fox hasn't been well received since the 90s?
Skynstein
FE has more reps in Smash but Donkey Kong and Metroid are IMO more recognizable.
NinjaMonkey
Speaking of which, did you know that each clone character has only appeared in just one game? Dr. Mario (NES), Dr. Mario (GB), Dr. Mario 64 - Oh look, that's three games that Dr. Mario has appeared in... Also, Lucina has been confirmed for SMT X FE. Original Alear
Dr. Mario (NES), Dr. Mario (GB), Dr. Mario 64 - Oh look, that's three games that Dr. Mario has appeared in... Also, Lucina has been confirmed for SMT X FE. He probably means they've each only been in one smash game, not that they've been in only one game period. I don't feel like checking to make sure that take on the statement is true, though.
Esau of Isaac
Mario is unquestionably not only the best-recognized Nintendo franchise, but the most recognizable videogame character in the medium.
