  1. 1. Is Killing Heroes from other FE games disturbing?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone else noticed how disturbing the DLC (at least the ones where you fight other heroes) is? Granted, they are ghosts (according to Hubba...) but still. I've seen rather horrible things including Lyn being killed by Eliwood, Lyn nearly killing Roy, and Erika being killed by her brother! Plus... you, the player, and your team are killing heroic characters, women, and children. Lina looks really young in her portrait so killing her, even a card of hers, seems pretty cruel. This isn't exactly a complaint though as it does make the DLC interesting, if a bit disturbing. I was just wondering if anyone else felt this way or am I alone.

I'm not disturbed in the slightest. It's pure fanservice and it's just something to have fun with.

I actually laughed the first time I saw Lyn get killed by Eliwood and Eirikia get killed by Ephraim. I always disliked those two

there is absolutely no difference between this and the content of the entire rest of the FE series, save for the fact that you happen to be "killing" familiar fictional faces

if you're down with FE as a whole, then being disturbed by doing the exact same thing except that you're fighting non-generics with faces and personalities is just really silly

To clarify I'm not complaining about the DLC, nor am I saying I'm having a serious moral issue. I just was pointing out... having Erika slaughered by her brother... that is cold. And seeing Lyn fall to someone she thinks is a bandit (Vaike, I think) is rather sad.

I don't share the sentiment myself but I see where you're coming from. But somehow since they explain it's just cards/ghosts and all it doesn't really bother me. The fact that the plot isn't taken all that seriously/it's DLC/you can replay it infinitely doesn't really help me either XP

Nope. Think of the DLC "heroes" as puppets. We can do funny things with them, and make them strike ridiculous poses. The actual people behind the puppets are off doing their own in-character thing.

(which reminds me, I should make a DLC team of giggles)

We're killing regenerating ghosts that are summoned from cards like MTG creatures.

(and just like MTG creatures, they can come right the hell back. (I pay 2 to summon Thalia. Well I pay 2 to Shock that wench. Well... I pay another 2 to summon... Thalia.)

It's not like they're the real deal.

Nah, not really. Besides, you're not actually killing any of them, near as I can tell; just running down their stamina so they get sealed up back in their cards.

Although there are times when I can't help but notice certain enemy-NPC matchups (Eliwood vs. Roy, Marth vs. Caeda, Eirika vs. Ephraim, etc.); overall it's really not any worse than the rest of the game, I don't think. Besides, you get a card of your own to summon one of those heroes at the end of each battle, so if nothing else at least you can ensure they're on the winning end of all future battles, as well as having them on the same side as their loved ones as opposed to against them.

If anything, I think what's most disturbing is the implication that (correct me if I'm wrong) being resealed in the cards resets their consciousnesses. That sounds pretty terrible to me, to never be able to truly retain any memories, friendships or any of that. For this reason I always liked to imagine that the Einherjar that joined up with my team weren't resealed after any of the battles and they just got to sort of roam around and socialize with everyone. Seems better that way. To me.

Wait, when does that one happen?

Eli and Roy are always on the same side (discrediting you using Roy to fight Eli, but unless you're fighting Eli's spotpass (Which is still an Einherjar), you're using Roy on Roy)....

Eli and Lyn... not so much, but...

I LOVE THE FACT THAT I CAN KILL MICAIAH OVER AND OVER AGAIN, all caps lol

So much Micaiah hatred...Not that she's my favorite or that I even like her...Yeah, never mind. Don't mind killing her a few times for an All Stats +2 Manual.

This topic disgusts me!

All this talk about fighting cards and ghosts, but what about the Entombed? EXPonential Growth is part of the DLC, is it not? The heroes in the cards are pretend, but the Entombed are real. They are real! Oh, and don't give me that crap about the Entombed stealing vegetables from "villagers". That's a load of bull made up by Anna. C'mon, even Chrom suspects that story is fake. Ain't it funny that these villagers are nowhere to be seen? It's just lies! Lies to make yourselves not feel guilty about murdering hoards of innocent Entombed. Innocent Entombed that are running from you, no less! I spit upon all who participate in this unjust slaughter of my undead brothers!

There's a conversation between Frederick and Celice in CoY 2 where that's directly mentioned.

Celica

Is it true you came from another world?

Frederick

That it is, milady.

Celica

Your world must be so different from ours. Purple trees, swimming pegasi...

Frederick

Er, perhaps not THAT different.

Celica

Do you suppose there are lots of other worlds out there?

Frederick

I could not say for certain, but the likelihood does seem high.

Celica

It sounds intriguing. I wonder if I'll ever get to see another world...

Frederick

......

Celica

Well, we can speak more of it later.

Frederick

But there won't be a later. Will there? The cards only give a fleeting identity to the soul. When they return to the cards, that identity is lost forever. Depending on how you look at it, that's actually quite sad...

However, DLC Roy, Micaiah and Leif all seem to be able to remember their battle with your forces during their joining conversation, even though it's mentioned in the dialogue of their chapters that they're picked up as cards at the end. Although, I guess they seem to be "glitched" and realize that there was something odd going on, unlike the other Einherjar, so they might be special and keep their memories even after being sealed.

Also, I wonder how they'll explain characters who appear in multiple maps? In Champions of Yore, the heroes were summoned again each time, which reset their memories, but in the later maps they seem to just stay around, until the final map. There should be a Leif in Lost Bloodlines 3, who'll be different from the Leif that was fighting alongside the Jugdral Einherjar in LB1 and joined Chrom's party. I wonder if the dialogue of the other Einherjar will acknowledge that in some way, like Chrom's first reaction to seeing a different Marth?

Killing some of them is really satisfying (I'm looking at you Marth and Seliph), but it always bugs me to beat the hell out of some of my favorite characters :/

What bothered me was in Marth's DLC (the only one I played...) that one toubadour girl was there. Killing her felt so wrong, if only because she actually has dialogue. "I have no gift for harming others..."

And I really hate Hubba. Eirika seemed like she was about to listen to reason, but noooooo! Hubba had to open his big fat mouth so that we had to kill her. :|

I used this exact same argument IRL yesterday.

High five.

No, at least not in the "fighting heroes" part. They don't exactly die after getting defeated. They retreat.

The only things I don't like about the DLCs are the Bride class and FE13's general treatment of Eirika.

What do you mean by this part? (Despite her DLC version self in Marth's chapter having bright orange clothes...)
