  1. If you really don't want to use a gamegene code, you can get a rom and use the gamefaqs save by "samurai edge", which includes a file at the beginning of chapter 8(although he probably used different characters).it is second to last on the page: http://www.gamefaqs.com/gba/563015-fire-emblem-fuuin-no-tsurugi/saves Alternetavly, just get the bad ending, then get the good one on a file where you play the other routes. Keep in mind that 18% of the game's content in inaccessible even on a perfect playthrough due to the route split.(compaired to the 8% that gets missed if you get the bad ending), so you were going to want to play through the game twice anyway to get all of the content(and the illia sacie route split is decided by which characters you've been using, so you would'nt be able to replay through just those 5 chapters without restarting anyway.) You can also play again on hard mode, as getting the bad ending unlocks it. That being said, it you can't read Japanese, the new fan translation is excellent and a joy to play through, so i would recommend restarting just for that.
  2. That's a bug in the fan translation only. note that glazus is okay to hilight, despite being a hero Savestate repeatedly in those chapters. Also, save many of your rescue charges (and preferably some rewarp as well) for chapter 24x. You WILL need them. That being said, that chapter can be skipped entierly if you want(although the ending is slightly less good).
  3. Abuse staffs.Staffs in this game are really good, and anyone who can use them is automatically at least decent. If you see someone with a really good staff early game(the best are thief, sleep, and warp, although m up and rewarp are also extremely usefull), you really want to capture/recruit them before it is used up. Also, starting midgame you get a ton of every non prf staff and some types of ranged magic, so feel free to use them. Also, capturing people does not render them unrecruitable in a latter chapter in the fan translation(and i assume the version that it is based off of.) as long as you do not release them. Also, there are many secrets(like how to get a dancer) that essentualy require a guide. Use the following two pages liberaly: http://www.serenesforest.net/fe5/hint.html http://www.serenesforest.net/fe5/gaiden.html also, abuse scrols, which boost growths.
  4. One of the things i liked about fe5 is that capture gave you a good mechanical reason to feel sad when enemy units died. Also, it makes it so that there is almost never a reason to kill an unarmed person.
  5. I found the more important point that the vidio made to be that you needed to restart the chapter. (plus, in fe 5 and 6, their point about the reinforcements as example of bs does hold no matter how you slice it)
  6. But that's the point. using savestates is not exclusive with strategic play as long you only savestates sparingly as a replacement for the mid-map save feature that doesn't exist. Saying that i use savestates to avoid spending 30 minutes doing what i just did is NOT the same as saying that i rng abuse level ups or unlikely events. There is a difference between difficult(which requires strategic play) and punishing(which is just tedious). Here is a good video that discusses the issue:
  7. Personaly, i find that making you redo 30 minutes of work because the boss got a lucky crit is simply bad game-play design in an otherwise great game. Begining of turn saves, Savepoints and map saves fix this in games where they exist, but it makes the games considerably less fun for me to have to redo a chapter in games that do not have these features, and fun is what really matters. THe lack of map saves is also why i play casual in awakening. Idealy there would be a mode with map saves and permadeath, but absent that, i play casual because 30 minutes of repeat game-play is just no fun.
  8. When charge activates, the enemy gets an attack as well, so if you are weak, you do not want charge to activate, so they implemented that as a mechanic to help the player. (it also never activates below a certain percentage of hp remaining.) You should probably wait until the new version of lamia's hack (which will change a lot, add in all the character portrates instead of the current recolors, include more content, and be more polished)
  9. Honestly, i mentioned it less because I made the association, and more because i expect other people to make the association and get confused, especially because that tune sounds a bit evil to me. It actually might be reasonable to suppose that this is foreshadowing the same way alvis's theme is in fe4(both themes sound regal yet foreboding). After she got characterized enough to show that this was probably not true, i stopped making the association, but i suspect that it might confuse others in an unintended manner.
  10. Well, that was something. I personaly am not usualy good enough for rom hack difficulty, so this is a nice way to experience what i could not otherwise. I love the plot on this so far, and i would love it if you could go through the entire hack when it does come out, because it would be far too reset happy to actually be fun for me gameplay wise. For reference, the song for chapter 2 is the song that plays when castle karnak is about to explode and you have to escape in ff5. Also, rya's theme is emperor gestal's theme for ff6. you know, the guy who is the big bad for the first half of the game. I kind of suspect that she's going to turn evil. If it was not alferd's intention to make me think that every time i see her, he might want to change the theme to any of may other regal sounding vidio game themes that dont have that mental association.
  11. Do you have the patched rom? because creating a new patch is really easy if you have a patched and unpatched rom (any unopatched rom will do, it tecnecaly dosn't have to even be a fire emblem game, as long as you tell us which rom you used.)
  12. New theory: lex and sharlow are half brothers and their mom purchased the dlc. But seriously, let's just say that you can learn skills in this setting but no one ever does on camera. (see also manuals and marietta in fe5)
  13. Have you fried saving and resetting the game? This fixes a lot of fe4 bugs. (granted, you probably did this at the beginning of gen 2 so that celice got his authority star.)
  14. I think the idea is that debuffs can depend on the weapon, so you could reduce the might at 3 range of just the killer and brave bows, for instance. (unless you are just asking for might debuffs to be possible, in which case i agree with you.) So in other words, the functionality will be technically there, but will not actually assigned to anything until a romhacker does so in the special nightmare modules. Right?
  15. Charge is the rather odd [user's Attack Speed - Enemy's Attack Speed + (HP/2)]%, and big shield is (User's Level)%, but all sword skills are just skill% (idk what the activation rates are on darkness and holy swords, which are normaly unused but used in this hack.). Also, lamia is an artist/hacker and that is an OC of hers, so her character art is all original. It is used it the to be released version of the hack found here: http://serenesforest.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=36873
  16. Although i first played FE in college, Chapter 8 of fe6 had a boss that i simply could not defeat without abusing the knight triangle attack and it's guaranteed hit/crit (and alternating rescuing/releasing Amelia Wendy every turn with the two paladins to prevent an instakill.) If final bosses count, The final form of exdeath from ff5 was always annoying.
  17. See also dondon151, who has played the game so well that he feels bored unless he has the rngdisplay lua script before him. (i wish i was that good.)
  18. Combine the two! lord only Fe4 sigurd/celice solo would certainly be dififcul... Oh,, wait, that's far too similar to the WIP TAS(which never got compleated because glitch abuse gets too boring:) http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=280990#280990
  19. THe LP on the lp archive has him kill the final boss and otherwise be awesome. "The marty party" was apparently a bit of a meme on the original something aweful thread.

    Patches

That is true(although i have at least one friend that wants me to give him romhacks because he is afraid of using the patching software). A complete answer should give all the options, with their pluses and minuses. Just because i would probably use a UPS patch, doesn't mean it's best for the OP in his situation. The motivation for my answer above was that I felt that you were not pointing out the main advantage of UPS, One way to get around the adaptation issue is by packaging the patch download as a zip with the patching program included if you are really worried. This is what the mother 3 fan translation did, for example.
  21. That might be because the T1 base stats are higher. From what i understand, promotion bonuses are just the difference between the two.

    Patches

He doesn't mean easier for a skilled user, he means for the average person, who now has to find a patcher for that format that he knows has no malware and figure out how to use it(which might be simple, but is still harder than doing what you already know.). This is why the IPS format is so commonly used despite being one of the worst patching formats to exist. Lunar IPS is known to everyone in the community and is incredibly simple to use. This is true to a lesser extent for UPS, but because none of the objectively better formats have gained wide acceptance, people are inevitably going to be confused(and some might not want to clutter their computer with a patcher program that they have never heard of and that they will probably only use once). As such, patches intended at a more general audience should be in the simpler format so as not to confuse them. However, If your patch is intended as a "building block patch" for hackers to apply with others, then it should be in as good of a format as possible, because hackers should be expected to learn about this stuff.
  23. I would agree that this is one of the tough bits, although by that point, you have enough tricks up your sleeve that it is cheezable. I honestly had more trouble in other places. My overall point is that this game is easier than many others, so if you could defeat them, you can do this without needing excessive help. Also, all of the pairings hinted at by conversations are usable, if not always 100% optimal.
  24. Also, try not to read too much about the game or you will get spoiled, and this game's plot is good enough be worth leaving unspoiled. This game is not nearly as hard as many other FEs(although there are a few tough bits, like recruiting aria in chapter 1.), Also, it is pretty easy to use everyone in this game for at least long enough to determine how good they are, Note that the game is curved assuming you get everyone as far in the arena as possible(losing there leaves you at one hp)
  25. Most of it is either self explanatory, easy to infer from other fe games, told by an in game npc, or a spoiler(like some details of the children system, which is based on having people stand next to each other until they fall in love, although this does not give them points after turn 50). However, there are some items that can only be obtained by making specific characters do incredibly esoteric things. A list can be found at: http://www.serenesforest.net/fe4/secret.html Also here is a list of normal events: http://www.serenesforest.net/fe4/event.html THe game shows when two party members can talk, but the list is still helpful for recruitment conversations. Also, weapon ranks are fixed based on class and holy blood, characters can't double without the pursuit skill or critical without the critical skill. and getting more than 50 kills on a weapon(the number next to the star in the weapon description) gives it the critical skill and adds Number of kills-50 to crit rate(weapons can be repaired by paying money in this game).
