  1. They'd be fine as an everyman if

1: Stahl didn't already work tons better, and

2: S/he wasn't having sex with every member of the army behind the scenes

For all of how stupid Kris was with his/her stupid "I value my lord above my own life" gimmick attached to a goddamn audience surrogate, at least they didn't have anyone other than Marth act in the same role. Plus it kept the waifufaggotry to a minimum, in which the girl didn't get any love interests, and the guy only got about seven (Katarina, Catria, maybe Yumina, Norne, Maris(*headdesk*), Athena (joke), and maybe Cecille). I'm grateful they didn't try and pair him with something like Minerva or Sheema, or even Malicia.

Also, question: are there any dynamic changes to FE12's supports if MU's gender is female? I'm pretty sure that Katarina's is exactly the same, last I checked.

  2. He's a great crutch for the first few chapters before you get Panne and Cordelia. Otherwise, not really. The guy never levels anything up that isn't HP and Strength.

Roxas, WaluWeegee, that meme was never funny. Personally, I still can't understand the appeal other than "LOL FORCED MEME", plus it doesn't fit into any animu stereotype I've heard of.

  3. Story reasons:

    >Gives Novala her bracelet (over a hostage situation, without even knowing its importance, thanks a lot Seth)

    >Has to be saved by Ephraim twice in the game

    >Twincest subtext

    >Handing over the Sacred Stone because Fomortiis used Lyon's voice

    >Considered using the new Fire Emblem to undo the war (mostly Mark_Asphodel's problem)

Surface reason would probably fall under "She doesn't punch things to death to solve her problems like Ephraim and Ike" like with Marth and Sigurd, and hardcore reasoning would probably be along the lines of "Sexist portrayal of a woman" and "Celica clone".

  4. Fire Emblem threads before Awakening

    >Discussion of characters for their actual character, discussion of strategy, tactics, story, GAMEPLAY, some Lyn waifufaggotry but it never dominates discussion

    Fire Emblem threads post-Awakening

    >Tharja best girl

    >Would you a dragon loli?

    >What does Tharja's ass smell like?

    >Gameplay almost never discussed save maybe eugenics, but that's it

Not only did Awakening kill the series in terms of gameplay but it hurt the quality of posts as well.

  5. Welcome to Serenesforest, Mr. Circle. Hope you enjoy your stay here.

I don't think you're correct about the Anathema effects, but if you are, you should probably add Hex to that list.

Also, add the Dual Support+ skill to that list as well. And check for Solidarity and Charm. Add Veteran, Counter and Wrath, to the ones that don't work.

Regardless of all this, there's probably a note somewhere on the actual page itself. Go check it.

  6. Im not trying to troll. I wouldnt troll SF.

And i dont see how Gregor is 11 on the list while Fred is 14.

Gregor was just an average Oyaji archetype on the other side of the Pacific. It's basically the Japanese term for "older man still in his prime", or "male Ara Ara".

And even here in the West, being the Heavy with hair can only go so far, not to mention it's an immediate deterrent for husbando potential. Hell, he's probably the least married unit after Yen'fay.

  7. Can a story work as just its climax?

    No.

I have about half a dozen mecha and Magical Girl animes that could protest that claim.

Now, I don't mean "Keep them exactly the same", but rather "start from where it starts, and then build up from there".

FE10 has it as a bunch of people having just survived the entire world being destroyed, their god turning against them, and a rival god trying to rally them.

FF6 starts with Celes having inadvertantly survived the apocalypse, where its catalyst is now a god, and the person who saved and raised her dies shortly after of illness.

  8. I have the opposite impression. Everything but Part 4 feels like filler. Like it only exists in order to get the story to the point were PoR had already been. Just that this time around it's way dumber, painfully contrived and overall worse.

And the name of the game is "Goddess of Dawn". Or "Akatsuki no Megami" as the case may be. So by all appearance, Part 4 is what the game is all about. It's nothing short of the cornerstone of the story. No matter how badly it may be executed, Part 4 cannot actually be filler.

But it definitely doesn't help that we got this crappy abridged script. I can only advice everyone to read all the available translations from the extended script that we have on this site. It greatly improved my opinion on the story. I can't imagine that it could save Part 1 and 3, though.

Not only that but the localization also felt the need to completely change the dialogue between Ike and Yune is the Epilogue. Our version has nothing to do with the Japanese script... and the entire rest of the game for that matter.

I mean, how do you turn this...

Ike: You were like a mother to all of life-- Your children still require a mother like you. When you watch over us, we don't always do things that make you happy and sometimes we even disappoint you. Still, I think we would like you to continue watching over us. How about it?

    ...into this:

Ike: It's true, we don't have much use for gods. But, well... You show us what we should aspire to. We need inspiration. You give us a reason to grow. To become more than we are. And if we don't have that, Yune, we're nothing more than statues. See?

"Inspiration"? On of the main themes of part 4 was how the gods were no less flawed then their creations:

Yune: We did create life, and can do many things that you creatures of flesh can't. But that doesn't make us perfect. It just means we can make mistakes on a much grander scale... We're not what you've been taught, and we're much closer to you skin-wearers than some will admit. But we do make mistakes... Sometimes we make terrible mistakes. Sometimes all it takes is one emotional outburst, and the entire world is drowning underwater!

    ...

Sephiran: Hatari. I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to see it. The wolf tribe has survived all this time in the far corner of the world. Only the goddess could have known that.

Nailah: Perhaps even she didn't know it. Your goddess isn't perfect, you know. Does an imperfect goddess have the right to judge imperfect beings?

    ...

Yune: People are probably the dumbest creatures alive. But... Somehow you're also the most endearing. It's your imperfections that make you so interesting... Imperfections very similar to ours.

    ...

Kurth: Goddess Ashera, please listen to me. We know that we are clearly imperfect, but you, unnaturally created of pure order... Might that not be considered an imperfection?

Ashera: No, I am perfect. Free of emotion, I have no doubts. Therefore I commit no errors.

    ...

Yune: But it would be difficult... Could we really coexist? Does it not bother you that I'm an imperfect being?

Ike: You forgave all the mistakes that we made, so how could we not forgive you.

In this setting, the gods are a very poor source of "inspiration". So the English version of the Epilogue has not only nothing to do with the rest of the game but it's hilariously out of place too.

But the Japanese version... well, one of the main themes of the entire Tellius series is family. Not only family by blood but especially the sense of family between all living things, regardless of race, social status or any other heritage:

Ike: At a time like this, it doesn't matter what our blood ties are. We are family. That's what my father always used to say. And today...for the first time... I understand why he said it... Because we are a family. So if you don't want to cause your family any grief, then live!

    ...

Naesala: I'm only joking. Don't get so defensive.

Micaiah: Then don't insult my family.

Naesala: Hmph. You say he's your brother, but there's as much resemblance between you two as between me and Skrimir.

    ...

Mist: Everyone in the Greil Mercenaries is part of a family. We all follow the commander, no matter what. We'll live together, fight together, and die together. Right, Ike?

    ...

Elincia: As you said, Lucia and the others are very important to me. They are family

    ...

Rolf: I have my family, Oscar. You, Boyd...everyone in the Greil Mercenaries. I don't need anyone else. Why should I let her try and change that? (Rolf is talking about his mother, btw.)

    ...

Sanaki: Will I... never see you again?

Micaiah: Hardly. I think that what our countries need now is a sense of family and friendship.

So connecting this giant family through Yune as the "mother of all life" makes perfect sense.

...Son of a bitch. When looked at like that, all of Tellius just seems like an excuse to have a Final Fantasy dynamic. Lord knows their gods are flawed...

  9. They're just trolling you, man. Gonzales is unarguably the best unit in the game that can't use swords, and even then only because the sword users in question are mounted or is Rutger. Just keep in mind that missing is a possibility with this guy, with axes having low hit and his skill growth of 15%, and you'll be fine.

Personally, FE12 should be the second-last game you play of all the Japanese ones, what with how it messes with FE11 and archetypes. 5 is the last, because of how WTF the whole game is.

  10. The supports were pretty good in 12. Though again, Cain's were dull enough to ruin him even without that stupid XP gain quote, Roger's made me want to take back every insult I ever threw at Makalov and use them on him, Maris' made me hate Japan's guts, Macellan's was dull and flat, Ellerean was all Tsundere stereotype, and Tomas' just didn't match his facial expression at any time. That's something I'd expect from freaking Ryan, dammit.

Though on the positive side, Bord and Cord's supports were funny, Barst's was surprisingly deep, Rickard was surprisingly human in his MU support, Warren's made me start using him over the archers, Samson was thankfully kept from being a simul-recruit with Arran, and Palla's were perfect.
