The big thing is, protagonists in general are cursed with being automatically perfect and in the right, regardless of what the story does. Only really great stories can write around that, but it comes by making the character too flawed. We either get a Mary Sue that does way too much, or a Failure Hero that makes people complain and send Kojima death threats over.

This is the biggest reason why forums both confuse and arouse me; you never ever know whether the commenter is joking, trolling, or legitimately asking.

No. By following the train of "Noble leads a romp through the continent against an evil empire for divine right" gimmick of samurai fables that Star Wars Americanized in every game, the player can follow the actions that happen around it to give humanity to the multiple elements that make it possible to immerse the player in these Excuse Plots. Look up "Strictly Formula" on TVTropes.
