  1. Ryoma is actually pretty fucking reckless if you look at his actions rather than his words, though. I won't say his characterization is perfectly done, but he's a lot more complex than what people give him credit for. On the surface level, sure, he makes himself come across as calm and has his shit together, but looking at his actions in more depth (Chevalier was a calculated risk but still a pretty big risk that paid off, his behavior in Nohr exemplifies when shit's not going his way and he's losing control of the situation, and it's very different than what he puts up in Hoshido route, also he's actually pretty prone to picking fights)

Ryoma is a juxaposition of calm and fire. I don't want to write another essay about why he's the way he is, but to leave Ryoma's personality at "calm an collected" is a very surface-level reading of him.

Tbh the more I draw Ryoma the more I love his hair. Kozaki's style is quite different from mine, and I tend to have a more realistic style, so drawing his hair softer in a more semi-realistic style helps reinforce the lion's mane motif the designers wanted, and it's actually quite majestic.

I mean, hell, this is the guy who once said along the lines of "I'm more attractive than he is".

Agreed. Ryoma's all about meditation and having all the chill but in actuality he does it because he's reckless as fuck and knows it. It's sort of overlooked that he is actually very similar to present Takumi (as stated in Takumi/Kagero).

Anway, as a character I like Support!Xander (great distinction on Thane's part) but as a unit I prefer Ryoma as he's much less maintenance.

  2. I was a fairly well known PSN Jin player back in the Calamity Trigger/Continuum Shift days. I played Continuum Shift II for a while and loved the Jin buffs but took a hiatus after that. I wasn't around at all for Continuum Shift Extend but decided to buy an import for Chrono Phantasma for kicks to see if I could get back into it. I messed around for a while then just dropped the series after that since I couldn't put in the time I used to have. The plot got way too out of control and I just lost interest. Doesn't help that I was going hard in Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 for that whole stretch either and became a pretty well known PSN Chie player in P4 Arena around its release time as well (I was SS ranked in like... a week?). When I say well known, I meant in the dust loop community when I was active.

I miss my fighting game days. :(:

  3. Without bending over backwards

BR: Either one works. Master of Arms is very good for her and Swordmaster makes her better at her niche. Marrying Silas for Great Knight is also good.

RV: Swordmaster speed is good here as an ending class, but I love sending her through Fighter!Hero via Keaton marriage from around level 8 to level 14 (switching back for swordfaire). Hero Growths are more or less the best in the game and it does everything for her.

  4. Sakura is a surprisingly good character. She's obviously timid and frail, but she has a lot of determination despite that. In many ways, she is very similar to Hinoka except Hinoka actually trained while she stayed a healer.

Pit is by far my favorite kid. His best parent comes super early with a fast support and gives him ridiculous (and I do mean ridiculous) growths. Draco Zerker innately is just nuts.

As a character, he's literally Pit and Pit is my favorite Nintendo character so that is not even bad. He's just a good kid with good luck.

  5. Why do people think Effie is slow? Comparably she has one of the higher base speeds at a 50% growth rate. Sure her base class access as a knight only leaves her at a 55% growth rate but that is still better then say Xander as a paladin at 45% and is only 5 points behind Nyx as a dark mage. And if you make her friends with Mozu she can have 65% in the archer line, or 70% from Hana in the samurai line (I generally let her be a Swordmaster)

Her base speed is acceptable in Conquest because she has all the availability in the world to get out of it. In Revelation, having like 5 base speed in C14 is absolutely no bueno when enemies promote en masse in like 3 chapters

  6. I loathe Peri. Her gimmick is not cute or quirky. She's an awful human being, but the game expects me to take her seriously. Even worse, she makes Xander look like a damn fool. Like, how dare he say don't trust Hans but then go on to have a psychopath as the retainer for the future

king of nohr. What's worse, he apparently wanted to marry her?? Just... no.

    Midori is very cute.

  7. #17: Niles

I like him; not as much as others do, but I like him. Possibly one of the most interesting characters, acting mean and using double entendres to cope with what he's been through (I hear he's a much better character in the Japanese version in this regard).

I actually prefer English Niles, I just like the voice more in JP. Eng Niles is a lot more subtle and low key about his inappropriate remarks. Unless those fan translations were off, I prefer Niles/Elise in English to the JP support.

  8. Only talking about characters I care about. :P:

Niles: Fucking incredible character and unit. His VA does an incredible job portraying him as a delinquent and a troll, but Koyasu took this character to all the right places. While most of Koyasu's roles are "that sounds like Dio!", JP Niles really invokes a Koyasu villain with his sadistic performance that really made you doubt if this guy was on our team. Enough gushing about the voice. He also has some of the strongest supports in the whole game. I didn't think I'd end up liking him as much as I did. As a unit, he's a 9 mov Swiss army knife. Lockpicking, capturing, surprisingly good combat due to high mt weapon type and high speed, better range control than most units due to the 1 range bow that doubles. He's just so dang flexible and I love that.

Kagero: She's so goddamn attractive it's nuts. Her character falls sort of flat though but a Ninja with a sense of duty is too inoffensive for me to be that bothered anyway. At least they somewhat tried to give her a weird art quirk and her friendship with Orochi (best friends, even!) is as unexpected as it is exclusive

legitimately sweet since there aren't many female-female friendships that don't involve a guy. Getting captured in literally all 3 routes isn't a good look though. She's kinda ridiculous in both playable routes as a unit. 70% Str and 1-2 range tells the whole story.
