  1. Right, and I would understand if it's done to save their own a**, but at least have the guts to admit it rather trying to cover it up with some noble-sounding bs. I especially have a problem with Fuga (oh yeah, forgot to call him out in my original post). Since he was supposedly "best buds" with Sumeragi, why was he a "neutral party" again? He's another one of those characters who's basically braindead in Conquest and ended up doing terrible things (or at least allowed them to happen). [spoiler=] Meh, Ryoma and Takumi are dead, not my problem. And... He can bang the female Corrin. Yeah, bro, prepare yo self, Sumeragi's ghost is comin' to get u In Conquest, Xander joins in even a bit later than Ryoma does in Birthright, and he doesn't have a special Lord class, either; just a paladin. I agree with you. Robin and Morgan are so much better than Corrin and Kana. Is there any depth to Kana's character other than turning into a dragon and being cute? Oh, I suppose there's also the "I want to be treated like an adult even though I'm like 10," but yeah... not very likable. If we were to treat Xander and Ryoma as Lord characters, then I'd say that I liked the Lords in both Awakening and Fates. Chrom has a much more straightforward characterization, and while it can be pretty bland, it's also harder to mess up. Xander and Ryoma have to deal with more complex issues and have more interesting characterizations, but Xander just doesn't work in the current narrative.
  2. That's true. Many people from both sides in Conquest are running around without functioning brains. Hmmmm, that's an interesting suggestion. I remember that the Wind tribe is neutral, so if the Fire tribe is like them, then Rinkah technically doesn't have an obligation to Hoshido. Also, Corrin saved her life. Although, given the current setup with the two nations, it's very hard to write a compelling reason for why any Hoshidan would join the Nohr without painting them as a bad person. As for the Awakening trio, Lissa, Olivia, and Cordelia would be soooo proud of you guys. I really wanted to like her, and I really like her design, but she has zero depth to her character. That's actually the one Asugi support where I don't hold it against him for raging, because she was being so damn annoying. And I think Stahl is such a sweetheart :3 The writers did rely on his "average" and "eating a lot" gimmicks a little too much, but there are still other sides to his character that show through.
  3. [spoiler=] I realize that was probably part of his thought process, but that in no way justifies joining in the effort of invading his country that has done him no wrong. It's his problem that he can't sort out his priorities. I agree with you on Asugi. Gaius was such a chill bro and I love Saizo, but Asugi acts like a jerk, especially in his support with Shiro and his mom. I plan to marry Sakura to Saizo, but goodness, Asugi just goes off on her and Sakura stutters like crazy in their support; it's like she's afraid of him. Honestly, his love of sweets became nothing more than a trait to irritate his dad.
  4. You summed it up so well. Although I don't exactly dislike Xander due to my own biases, his characterization is ridiculous. Everyone else on this list really annoy me with their actions (or lack thereof), especially Kaze, who is a complete moron in Conquest. There's zero excuse for what he did. And Ryoma is getting faulted for treating Azura like a sister, which is something I thought I'd never see... You learn something new everyday, I guess. As for the others, I'll try not to let my opinions on their design affect my judgment, since everyone has their own tastes. And this is mostly based on their original characterization: Hinoka: note that I actually like her quite a bit, but I am calling her out specifically for her stupidity in Conquest. I'm pretty sure Corrin killed all of her brain cells with his glorious "light that shines in the dark." [spoiler=] At the end of Chapter 24, she wanted to come with Corrin to convince Ryoma so they can "end the war." Sure, go ahead, if your definition of ending the war is allowing Garon to do whatever the hell he wants in Hoshido. Jakob and Azama: um, do y'all just like being a**holes for no reason? they both have their nice moments, and I really liked those, but the rest of time, just... why? I really like both of your children, though. Hayato: more annoying version of Ricken. Rhajat: dear lord, Tharja is back with all of her creepiness. Camilla: as Thane so elegantly put it Nina: fujoshi who ships people she personally knows together... no. At least I loved her name in the original, but that's gone now, unfortunately. EDIT: oh yeah, forgot about Peri. She's basically there to make Xander look bad.
  5. Right, it wasn't the nicest thing to do, but as the leader of an army, he needs to think practically. And Elise isn't really just an innocent little girl who is dying: the game tells us she is an adult and we should treat her as such, and she is an enemy combatant (not just a healer, since you can reclass and promote her) who can offer valuable contributions to the invasion effort. My family came from a country that was once ravaged by imperialism, so I have a bit more experience with this. Let's just say that it's unrealistic to demand those people to show sympathy for sick and injured enemy soldiers who are very likely to come back and hurt them once they recover; Elise being all cutesy shouldn't change a thing. I really liked his ruthlessness in that scene, as well; it's one of few plot points in Conquest I actually liked. For goodness sakes, he's not a saint. I really don't get what some people want with Ryoma: do nice things/be a nice person and they call him "bland" and "prince perfect," but do some not-so-nice things, or God forbid, get angry, and they are all up in arms about it without considering his motivations and circumstances. I'm now kinda understanding why the TVtropes thing happened.
  6. Exactly what I meant. It's still horrible to state it, but it's even worse to let our imaginations run wild with it.
  7. I wouldn't recommend stacking that many proc skills together; it's not necessary, and there are other valuable utility skills out there. Two or three is plenty. Also, Sol is a healing skill and has poor synergy with skills that maximize damage output, so depending on what you want to do with your unit, I would either complement Sol with other skills (Sol and Aether, for example, would be a good combo) or just run with a combination of the other four skills you have listed.
  8. Yeah, I kinda wish they just stated it explicitly... Leaving this up to our imagination is not a good idea. Of course, along with all the other deaths down the line.
  9. This. Also, on a grander scale of things, you don't put the entirety of Nohr in danger when you side with Hoshido, but you put the entirety of Hoshido in danger when you side with Nohr. The Hoshidan siblings have a right to be more angry. You bring up a good point. I think I'll just say upfront that this is probably just shoddy writing to have you clash with a Hoshidan sibling. But I did look into this a bit, and here is what I inferred based on the information in the game: Macarath is a royal palace (king's villa in the original), not a hospital, so while there may be doctors and medicine there, it's not exactly like the situation in Birthright Chapter 7. I mean, Garon ordered Corrin to go "for rest and relaxation," so there are probably many things there besides herbs. And from the looks of the place, it seemed like there weren't even doctors there, since they had to rely on Azura to identify the medicine (at least in the original), and no one came out to take care of Elise. So perhaps the doctors have been called away and left this place empty, and Ryoma also needed medicine for his troops and thought this was a good place to get it. As for how Ryoma knew about Corrin's detour, it could be because A) Hoshidan ninjas have been spying on Corrin or B) some people in Nohr didn't like Corrin/the royal family and told Ryoma (Azura suggested this possibility, and Garon did order Corrin to go, so it is possible that someone in court who had anti-Nohrian sentiments caught word of this). Either way, I don't think Ryoma ever expressed the intention of capturing Macarath; he was just there, but somehow learned that Corrin was also going to be coming, and decided to block the way and confront him.
  10. Also, it needs to be taken into consideration that he's placed under a very tough situation here: not giving Corrin the medicine and have Corrin (and the fanbase) potentially hate him, or give him the medicine and lose the trust of his troops, who will no doubt be very angry and confused about why he is sympathizing with an enemy princess to whom he has no amiable relations with (Corrin is a different case, since it can be assumed that the soldiers know about his/her background).
  11. Well, if we are just going by the audio alone, I would say Japanese. I have a bias towards the original voice regardless of the language, and the Japanese dub really did a great job with all the characters. There are quite a few English voices I really like, though. As for the rest of the localization, it's more of a mixed bag.
  12. Overall, I think that with enough experience, Leo would make the best ruler out of the four siblings. The comparison between the brothers is not entirely true, though, because in Revelations, Ryoma was more willing to listen to Corrin, while Xander is the one who was being stubborn about the whole "traitor" thing. But being hot-headed is one of Ryoma's flaws (which, as you have pointed out, that a lot of people conveniently overlook when they criticize him for being "too perfect"), so it's definitely a problem that he needs to work on. But he does meditate a lot, so he is taking steps to improve himself. I have yet to play the localized version, but if they really did improve the characterizations of the Nohrian siblings, then kudos to the localization team. Well, quite a few people are hating on Ryoma for this. Based on what I've seen in this forum, the two sides get pretty much the same amount of hate, depending on what thread you are in. Quite a bit of the hate for Conquest actually stems from its plot and how it messes up the characterizations of both the Hoshidan and the Nohrian siblings, along with others, not the very fact that those siblings are from Nohr. As people have already said, we should be careful when applying morals in real life to a fictional world. Ryoma was certainly not being the greatest person by doing that, but if I were in his shoes, I probably wouldn't have too many f***'s to give, either. I don't really buy the "innocent child" argument here, since it's laid out nice and clear that Elise is an adult by the standards of this game. She is capable of attacking enemies, and voluntarily fights with a group of soldiers who are constantly involved in battles (which little girls in real life don't do). From Ryoma's perspective, she's just an enemy combatant who poses danger to his people, and he shouldn't feel obligated to help her.
  13. I think your pairings are already really good! The only one you might want to consider is switching Orochi and Mozu. Neither Jakob X Orochi or Jakob X Mozu is super good, but Saizo goes really well with Orochi because he actually has decent magic growth and the resulting Asugi can really make use of Exploding Shurikens.
  14. You can equip them both, but they don't have good synergy, so I don't recommend it. For the main game, Sol is probably better.
  15. Yay, I'm so happy! I remember that you voiced your doubts about Takumi before, so I really appreciate you giving him a chance :D
  16. That's very true. Ryoma has had a few "wtf" moments as well, so I wouldn't be surprised if he agrees to all of this nonsense XD
  17. Sigh... Hinoka, why u waste your good design. [spoiler=] Now I really want to see how Ryoma would've reacted if she actually went with Corrin: Hinoka: Big brother, I have great news! We can all stop fighting now! Corrin is promising to end the war for everyone, so it doesn't matter that Garon and his goons are out there wreaking havoc anymore! Ryoma: ...wtf.
  18. This. As long as they keep it consistent, things may be less s*itty. I don't even think the morality of actions are in consideration anymore, since Xander has someone like Peri for a retainer. But the flip flopping is just ridiculous. Also [spoiler=] If Camilla wanted to hunt everyone down in Chapter 11, then what made her agree to spare Hinoka in Chapter 24? From Nohr's perspective, it probably is sensible to go after the enemy in case they retaliate. But why not do that with Hinoka? It can't be because of Corrin, since he asked her to spare their lives in both cases. Isn't it a greater risk to leave Hinoka alive than random Hoshidan soldiers? [spoiler=] Also, on a somewhat unrelated note, I just went back and looked at chapter 24 again, and I found Hinoka's actions really dumb. She said she wanted to come along with Corrin to convince Ryoma. Uh, convince him to do what? Let Garon waltz through Hoshido and sit on the throne (which is Corrin's plan)? What if Garon is like "ooooh, lemme kill some civilians around here before I go enjoy myself on the throne?" Corrin and the Nohrian siblings won't be able to do anything since they have zero control over what Garon does, so why in the world would Hinoka think that it's a good idea to get her brother to give up defending Hoshido? And Hinoka doesn't know about the Valla curse, so what does she think Corrin is even doing in Hoshido, with Garon and the Nohrian army already at their doorstep? What makes her think that going along with Corrin will "stop the war"? Yeah, can someone explain this to me please? I'm really confused.
  19. Ah, that was good to know. I haven't read Revelations in detail yet, and have been wondering about that.
  20. Lol, I glanced through this thread and was like, "yeah, I shouldn't comment here." But I am very excited about the improved gameplay and diversified map objectives. The soundtrack is really good, even though I've yet to find ones that top my favorites from Awakening. Also, even though I was pretty salty about not having dual audio, the English dub will be a different kind of experience for me and I'm actually kinda looking forward to it.
  21. I haven't read his support with Camilla, but the Elise one was just too much (at least the localization fixed it). Honestly, I'm kinda lacking the motivation to read any of his supports; the only two I've read are Elise and Selena since I'm planning on doing those pairings, and neither of them was that good...
  22. I kinda am too... But I guess I can't blame the fans for drawing connections, since there's literally a lobster named Ryouma-ebi... He looks really cute as a porcupine/hedgehog, though
  23. Yay, I managed to make myself clear :) And haha, I kinda derailed this thread into another plot thread :P I really appreciate your fair assessment of Nohr as a Nohr fan. As a Hoshidan girl myself, I also hope to remove as much of my bias as possible when assessing elements such as the story. I'm most definitely going to enjoy my plays through Conquest and the other two routes when spring break finally comes around I've braced myself for all the heartbreaks. Tbh, the gameplay alone is enough to convince me to buy this route.
  24. Well, right, but I thought the whole point of that rule was that the more jokes the fans crack on a character, the more popular he/she is, and that's not the case with Ryoma. I didn't say the jokes are bad.
  25. Ah, then it's sad to see that Ryoma is an exception: I've seen too many lobster jokes to count, but he's still not nearly as popular as Xander, who never really gets made fun of, is...
