  1. I hope you can promote classes two times and that the promotion to the final class gives you that “Oompf” feeling where you think you can take on the whole world :D
  2. I’m cautiously hyped for the game right now. My fear is that, like with Fates, my hype gets little by little more destroyed with more information being released about the game. To the point where I feel like skipping the game. I feel like IntSys does a better job now with releasing information about the game. I think it keeps us on our toes. (inb4 that moment when multiple trailers are shown where story and gameplay is spoiled).
  3. Not sure if this was already posted in this thread, if it was, my apologies in advance. I found this vid hilarious (and confronting because maybe I'm part of it).
  4. Hey guys, Perhaps a sortlike question has been asked earlier, please forgive me for being lazy and not search the whole thread for it :). I need your advice on the following situation. I recently pulled a 4 star Fir and I have multiple 3 star Fir's in the barracks. I see the following possibilities: - Upgrade the four star Fir when I have enough feathers. I don't have enough feathers atm. The three star Fir's could be sent home to provide additional feathers. - Keep the four star Fir, upgrade the three star Fir's to four stars and merge them all to one strong four star Fir. - Insert other possibility. Can you give advice to what you would do with these Fir's in this situation?
  5. Hey folks, most of what I think has already been said, so this post will mostly sound like an echo. I should also add that I haven't played FE Fates, so the things I might say may not be completely accurate. So what I say here about Fates is about what I only have heard and read. Nevertheless, I would like to add my 2 cents . - What I dislike in both Awakening and Fates is the character/ Avatar pandering. Your character is the center of attention, in Awakening somewhat less than in Fates I believe, which I at first thought was a fun idea. Later now, I think it quickly gets old. I personally prefer your character to stay in the background, more as a traveller or as a mercenary, so that he/ she has less impact in the story. Why? I think it can give the character the freedom to interact with whomever he/ she likes and possibly the freedom of choice. While I have noticed they have tried to give the player a bit of choice in Awakening, his/ her choices didn't have an impact. Which is a bummer in my opinion. - I believe the stories in the Fire Emblem series are very character driven. What I think IS has done wrong in both Awakening and Fates, is creating a huge bunch of characters (including children) and have tried to give them all a distinguishing personality. So that they stand out from one another. While I think it is a good idea to make a character stand out of the rest, I am personally not a fan of the gimmicks they have. Especially if a character revolves around a certain gimmick, as I believe it restrains character development. Even stronger, when you have a lot of characters, with each of them a different gimmick, I think there is a risk of creating monotonuous characters (if you folks can understand what I say). I would suggest creating a smaller cast, so that more time can be spend on (complex) character relationships, character growth and story development. Of course, gimmicks can be used, but I would love to see how a character can develop without falling back to its gimmick. - Complexity of the story and the characters. I already talked a bit about it in the (wall of) text above here. What I think I've seen in both Awakening and (from what I have heard in) Fates, is that IS tries to make the story more morally grey. In my opinion it is hard to make such a story, with all of the other elements you need to take in consideration to create a story or a character. What I however miss in both Awakening and Fates is character growth (here we go again ). When I think of character growth, I love to see a character overcome certain obstacles or challenges in order to progress not only the story, but his/ her personality as well. Show us what challenge X does to the protagonist, how other characters interact with it as well and how they give feedback to the protagonist about his/ her decisions. Hell, you could also make another noble, good protagonist. I would say, make an antagonist (or a group) that manipulates said protagonist into making dire choices that conflict with his/ her inner self. And show us that! Show us that his comrades hate him/ her for doing it, or applaud him for it. Let the protagonist make a rational choice to sacrifice civilians, even if protagonist hates him-/ herself for it (let alone the rest of his/ her companions whose family died because the choice). Or the protagonist gives the big F* you and stays true to his ideals, he saves those civilians and gains the respect of certain comrades whilst others call him a fool for it, as the antagonist gains the advantage in the war. I could go on with this (and frankly, I think I'm going on long enough), there are many possibilities without making it all too complex I think. I need to add however, I think some of this is shown in both Awakening and Fates. So to conclude this, I think the focus should be (more) placed in the emotional judgement of a character. Sorry for the long post. Respect to y'all if you read it all. *Thumbs up to you*.
  6. I think that freedom, in its most purest form, means that you're not bound by any rules whatsoever, free to go wherever you want, free to choose whatever wish to do. Say something that you're free to do so, and you have the freedom to do it! Somewhere where you have such freedom, there would be nothing that would say to you that you shouldn't.
  7. I suppose it's too much to ask if it is possible to hit over 9000. Then again, pretty cool and good job that you managed to calculate this. As I hate math I pretty much skipped it all and thus believe this so long as no-one counters this.
  8. Earthquake vs Iron Head It looks very interesting! I would personally switch Leon and Takumi's Pokemon, as I think Houndoom would better fit Leon and Manectric would better fit Takumi, at least in my opinion. I understand why you did it this way though! What would you think of Leon as the Pokemon Absol, and Takumi as the Pokemon Ampharos? And what would you think of Camilla as Aerodactyl, and Hinoka as Altaria? Good luck with your project either way! Have fun!
  9. It would either be Aran from FE10 or Innes from FE8. Being a mobile halberdier would definitely suit my fighting style, then again, being a sniper would do as well. I guess it comes down to my personality traits, which are found in both characters. Argh! I suppose I would let fate decide which one would become my mirage
  10. I'm sad that game companies more and more often only tell half-truths. It's not that they're (completely) lying to us, but they leave more often a lot of important information left out or unclear. At least in my experience. This whole Fire Emblem Fates happening will come down to this: [spoiler=5 stages of Grief and Loss] Don't worry guys... we'll get to that last hurdle. In the end, when we're old, we'll think of this as "Ah yes.. 'Fire Emblem Fates'"..
  11. Well, it's quite alright if you're fine with it :). These are just opinions and if you like it, then who are we to say that you shouldn't? Enjoy and make the most of it I say! Personally, I probably won't/ or minorly make use of it. The reason I don't like it, is that I'd probably feel very uncomfortable if I'd do it with someone else, regardless who gets rubbed. It feels... awkward, that you enter someone's private space like that, if you know what I mean. Then again, this is my opinion and feel free to disagree with it :). Quite curious though how it will get localised.
  12. *Gasps at the huge list*. I hope the game isn't a complete disappointment for you :c
  13. Nohr pretty much, a bit of the Hoshido campaign and the third path. And I partly regret it, but for some reason I also feel glad that I know some plot stuff. Oh well.
  14. I can't comment in depth to this, as we're going to discuss in-depth story and narrative now. I understand your point, you say that the Nohr and Hoshido version stand out on their own, based of what you've read/ experienced. That's fair enough, as that is your opinion. I am glad however that, from what I read from your comments, that we agree that a complete game needs to be complete at all parts, not only gameplay but also story-wise and so on. The question if this is true with Fates should perhaps be discussed in a different thread. I think if we continue down this line we derail the thread, yet I'm anxious to know now if this is true Dx. Do note for your own information that other sources claim otherwise, see for example: https://kantopia.wordpress.com/2015/06/18/fire-emblem-fates-birthright-conquest-famitsu-review-translated/, the last review. Or look down these forums for information. And even then, some things may be taken with a grain of salt. What my conclusion is, is that if Fates' story is intertwined between the two (or three) paths, and then I mean that they need one another to stand strong instead of standing strong independantly, that they aren't complete games. Harsh words, but that would be the conclusion, correct? Opinions on that may differ, and people are free to disagree with me of course, but this would be how I look at it. And to go back to the original question, then it would've made me happier if all three (and at least two) routes were in one game.
  15. Wait wow, the bolded part is a joke right? If characters in-game are mad at Takumi for not instantly trusting Kamui, then that would be the pinnacle of sillyness. Poor Takumi... the only one who has common sense regarding the trusting part, actually gets punished for it. Let's just all hold hands and sing merry songs in Fates because no-one wishes to kill each other, right? /sarcastic rant over
  16. Pretty much this, in my opinion. Why should you trust someone immediatly, after he/ she had to choose between his/ her family by blood or by whom he/ she grew up? Can you fully trust him / her? What if he/ she is a spy amg As Sunwoo said, Takumi's behavior is actually very realistic. I haven't played the Hoshido path yet, but I think I will like him. Am I getting tired of all the worshipping? Not exactly tired, but I would really prefer a more realistic approach.
  17. I hope that you're right. Don't get me wrong, I believe your words, but I hear controversial points from here at the forums and at other newsproviders, what makes me wary. I think it is best that I reserve judgement about Fates until I actually play the game myself, so that I can say if both paths stand out on their own or not. It would be so much better if there would be a general consensus, to make this easier, yet that won't ever happen because of opinions :). Thank you for your insights. I hope for the best.
  18. Hmm.. Perhaps I should've said it a bit differently. My point was that in one game, you see certain events happen in the story, which in turn affects characters. Often, but not always, they develop. However in Fates, at least based on what I have heard, you see that a character has motives or that certain events have happened which affected them, but how they develop or why the story progressed that way is not (fully) explained because you need the other path to see / learn that. With other path I mean not only the other version, but also the third path. I should add that I've been trying to avoid as many spoilers as I can, so I can't give you a clear example sadly. I can't discuss the story of Fates at length, however, in other threads that is probably well done. I hope you understand what I mean, though. About Awakening, regardless if its story is good or not, the story had a build-up and a certain "closure". Granted, some things could've been explained better, however that should be discussed on the Awakening forums I think. My point is that Awakening doesn't have another game that fills in other story components and plot holes, as the game stands on its own, how weak the story may be. From what I hear and understand, this isn't the case with Fates as they need each path to create an understandable and complete narrative. They can't stand out on their own and that is my point. If you wish an example of a game that has (at least in my opinion) a strong story, good lore and a fine narrative, I think Dragon Age Origins is a good example of a game that stands out on its own. You don't need Dragon Age Origins - Awakening (Ha! Such coincedence), or other Dragon Age games, to experience the full story of DA:O, even though DA:A is a great DLC on its own and may actually fill in certain plot-holes of DA:O. I think that is a fine example of a game that needed a sequel to complete certain character arcs, although the story may have had closure. I don't know about that though :), haven't completed PoR yet.
  19. I agree with you guys to the point that a company can sell two games if the content in each of them can be warranted as their own game. However should they do so, a customer can also expect a fully, completed game, that stands out on itself. A game not only filled in content by gameplay, but also story, characters and characterisation, etc etc. That is the least you can expect from a legal perspective, as the company offers you a fully completed game and you accept it by buying it. Now what exactly is a fully, completed game? I think that is a game filled with lots of finished gameplay aspects, a fully written story that stands out on itself, finished characters and their personalities (preferable original and not rehashed ones), and so on. Now let's take the two versions of Fire Emblem Fates as an example. The thing with Fire Emblem Fates is, that neither the Hoshido or the Nohr campaign can stand out on its own, because you need one another to fill up the story, the characters, and so on. You'll see an angry Xander in one version, and a happy Xander in the other. Why? The game explains it, but you have to buy it. Sure, the game may offer so much content as you can expect from a different game, for example Fire Emblem Awakening. However, from what I see is that the Nohr and the Hoshido campaign lack (at least) one thing to be a fully, completed game, which is a complete story that fills up all the plot holes. But they don't, as the other campaign is necessary to fill in certain plot holes and to complete the story. Granted, there must be some games that also have plot holes which aren't filled, I can't come up with one right now, but I'm sure there is at least one. Practically, such a plot hole won't be something as "You chose to side with faction X, how would it have been if you chose faction Y?". Because in Fates, you don't have that choice as you bought one version of the game. Or sometimes a sequel fills in said plot hole, or it is left out as it is something minor. A writer's mistake, so to say. This isn't the case with Fire Emblem Fates, yet IS wants you to pay for all the paths which in my opinion, can't stand out on their own. And that simply dissappoints me and I think IS should've done something differently than the path the chose with Fates. Alas, they didn't. About the day 1 DLC policy, in my experience it often comes down to milking more money from gamers. I have seen games which had day 1 DLC, which was actually content that had to be in the main game. So I'm quite wary to such policies and I prefer it if companies wouldn't reside to such strategies. Then again, how do you stop it? Big chiefs of companies see only $$$ or €€€ or so they say. EDIT: Typos
  20. I personally have a strong opinion on this matter and I feel inclined to give my 2 cents. To answer the question: Yes, not only my wallet but I would've been happier if at least Nohr and Hoshido were in one game. Only if the third path is the 'Golden path' / 'Canon path', then I would've been happier if it was included in the vanilla game as well. From what I've heard so far, the third path may fill in plot holes in the other two games. If that is true, then from a narrative point of view, the third path had to be in the vanilla game in my opinion. What I mean with a narrative point of view, is that you experience a full and comprehensive story, preferably without too many plot-holes, when you play the game. The thing with Fire Emblem Fates is, that you can't fully experience the story because you have to choose a side. When you do, you miss the other point(s) from the other side. However, with Fire Emblem Fates you can't fully experience the story, because you have to pay if you wish to experience the other side. From a narrative point of view, you'll always be left with (many) questions because you only experienced one side and only one point of view. Let's say you only have budget for one game and don't want to look up the story of the other side on the internet. You'll always miss the other point of view, and thus experience only half a story. Even stronger, as Nexas said before me, the game was advertised to make a choice between choosing sides. Instead, you have to make the choice which game you buy to experience said story. And after you did, you don't have the choice anymore to experience the other point of view, because you have to pay for that. Why present it that you have the power to choose both sides whilst in reality you have to choose a certain (and perhaps only one) side? I respectfully disagree with you regarding the bolded. The thing with Pokemon is, wether you buy Pokemon A or pokemon B, the story is the same, albeit with slight/ minor differences. Not only that, the point of Pokemon Red and Blue was, iirc, that you could trade the Pokemon you couldn't catch in one game with other people who had the other version. Regardless of which version you bought, the story would be the same. You would still experience all points of view and the narrative would remain the same. That isn't the thing with Fire Emblem Fates, as the Nohr campaign is vastly different than the Hoshido campaign. I won't fully understand Xander's motives when I play the Hoshido version or Ryoma's respectively when I play the Norh campaign. The narrative is incomplete and will remain so unless you pay for it. That is why, in my opinion at least, Fire Emblem Fates can't be compared to the Pokemon structure. Then we have the third route. The best thing in my opinion IS could do as fanservice in the game, is to give us the option to choose this path after we completed the Nohr and Hishido campaigns. Why? Because IF I should believe the stories, the third path fills in the other (but important!) plot holes the other two games couldn't fill in for whatever reasons. This means the third path actually completes the story as a whole. But you also have to pay for it! That just feels wrong to me, what is the point of selling us two, no, three different paths if each path is necessary to complete the narrative and the story. To me, with respect of other opinions, it feels like they just want to make extra money, even if you get a discount for all the other paths. So that would conclude my opinion that I would feel happier if all three paths were concluded in one game. Even if it they would have to sacrifice other (fanservicy?) components of the game, as long as it wouldn't damage the story, then I would be (more) content. Because then, I experienced a full story. It would give me a complete feeling. Don't get me wrong, I don't feel entitled to it. I would merely feel happier :). Instead of throwing money at all three different paths that complete the story.
  21. I sometimes wonder what the voice-actors thought when they were speaking all those lines...
  22. Hmm.. I see. That's indeed dissappointing :(. Thanks for the info though!
