It makes sense to me. The most controversial Fire Emblems (ie: Fates, Radiant Dawn, Geneology) tend to be the ones with the most ambitious scope. And Three Houses is both the most ambitious game yet and one with a lot of experimental mechanics. This could be the greatest game yet, or it could be a victim of extreme scope creep.

I would expect emotions ranging from apprehension to cautious optimism to be the natural ones here.

I know I have mixed feelings. I'm very excited for it (more than I've ever been for a Fire Emblem). I have vacation set aside for it. But I'd be lying if I said I'm not nervous.

Having some caution over things is one thing, but comparing everything shown so far to the "worst parts" of another game feels kinda shallow.

Three Houses, on the other hand, reminds me more of the least-enjoyable parts of Trails of Cold Steel.  I don't think I've been this apprehensive about a FE game release, ever.

Intriguing seeing a mod so down on the game. Especially when there's still so much else to the game other than the school.

Do we know if there will be any more Famitsu previews?

I'd say there'll be one every week or two-- the game is a bit over two months out and there's still tons to be covered that can't only be done in trailers.

  3. So I did some digging last night on gamefaqs after being tipped off by several users and have got some info (one piece of which @Dragonage2ftw already posted):

Thanibomb is also the gamefaqs user MissCarriage.

This is in their sig on gamefaqs:

FC: 2981-5975-5185, Flaming Emblems, Light Priestesses, and Toxic Seahorses
    Team Thani FE:H ID: 1168253504

Said ID reveals that their FEH account is called Thanibomb.

In addition, some of their reactions and prior posts are... suspect.

A thread asking people who their favorite retainer is.
Post 13: "Claude's retainer is not LORENTZ! It's HILDA!"
Post 16: "I won't ever give in. EVER. I'm saving this thread just to show proof that I'm right."
Post 19: "I just know. In my heart of hearts I know."

    This was 6 days ago.

In addition, they have a very clear Claude boner/Golden Deer bias:

With the "leaks" being quite partial to the Golden Deer.

As for the real thanibombshell, it's already been posted but I'll link it again so as to have everything in one place:

"Lycithea is the best character already"
    Made a few weeks ago.

Now what have they been saying on reddit? ...Oh right. How much they love Lycithea, how she's a tragic character who's a key part of Edelgard's motivation (because a random character from a different house makes sense), and that she dies mid-plot.

    How convenient.

In addition, when asked if they were the same person on gamefaqs they lied:
    https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/204445-fire-emblem-three-houses/77716670/921964988
...Even though they still have their FEH account linked and bared to the world.

This "leak" is mostly BS at absolute best, pure fanfiction at the absolute worst.
I sent my findings to the subreddit mods-- not to suggest an immediate course of action, but simply to inform them of how things are looking.

EDIT: Seems like it's a "mostly BS" deal but they may have something: https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/204445-fire-emblem-three-houses/77674602

In post 5, you can see in the quote that they had Rhea's name already (over a week in advance) but edited it out of post 4.

So here's what I'm calling: little details right, big details wrong.

This, and apparently this leaker is trusted because they're a "respectable" member of that subreddit.

Which honestly, means jack shit for me.  Even if they're genuinely a decent person, they aren't immune to being a troll or messing up.  Literally, to me, it sounds like little Jimmy's uncle who works at Nintendo and knows that Sonic was put in Super Smash Bros Melee.

They have such oddly specific info in some areas yet vague to non-existent info in others.

Claims that the Houses don't join later, a lack of any mention of the Church being evil (when IS themselves keep making it obvious), saying that the school only matters for the first act when it's getting a massive amount of mechanical focus... it's just wish fulfillment for the online community mixed in with some fanfiction.

It says something that gamefaqs is making fun of SF over this.

  5. From observations and google translate, I bring:

    >All 3 House heads have the same personal skill effect-- 20% EXP bonus. Byleth also has this, but it applies to adjacent allies as well.

    >Hubert's personal skill is garbled/doesn't make much sense.

    >Dorothea's restores the HP of adjacent allies by 10% at the start of each turn.

    >Dedue's grants him +4 defense on the enemy phase if he's ordered to wait.

    >Felix's grants him +5 damage if he is deployed without soldiers.

    >Lorenz gains +2 damage for being deployed with soldiers.

    >Hilda increases the damage adjacent male allies deal by 3.

    >Mercenaries now use Swords and Axes

    >Cavaliers have Canto back

    >There's a new Fistfighter class-- though it also uses axes

    >Fists have a Brave effect but can't be used while mounted

    >Magic seems to be learned like it is in SoV but has limited uses per map instead of running off of HP

EDIT: And unique palettes do seem to be a thing-- Hilda is shown as a Brigand and she has a pinkish-brown palette (compared to Edelgard's burgundy), while Cavalier Lorenz has purple highlights

There's no way you could actually read that lmao. So I guess the crests are like augments you can activate for combat? Maybe a limited amount of use per map and that's what the triangles are?

They seem to be at the end of their attack animation in the screen in the upper left corner, with a green "4" and their crest above them.

I have. The answer to my thoughts on it lies in your profile :P:.

But in all seriousness, I wouldn't trust it. It's very interesting to see, especially that Artorias was one of the characters that had that ad whenever he was searched with Smash Ultimate DLC, but this could, like most leaks and theories, end up being nothing.

People have already demonstrated you can post advertisements just like it for $5 apiece

Is this why Bayo 3 hasn't had anything really said or shown about it so far? Does this mean a later-rather-than-sooner timing for its release? I'm just hoping whatever happens, for fans of the company, genre, and Bayo, that the end product is Pure Platinum.

That's what I'd figured the moment Astral Chain was announced. The game was announced at the 2017 VGAs with nothing to show since-- either development had barely begun or snags had been hit.

I'll be honest, I'm a bit curious in seeing how Astral Chain and Bayonetta 3 do; Bayonetta 2 has only sold about 500k, with 2/3 of those sales being from the Switch re-release (which means a fair few of them may have been from people re-buying it). I'm just wondering how things will go long-term if Astral Chain comes out and puts up a million in sales and then Bayonetta 3 comes along a year+ later and doesn't match it.

Ok, this was worth a chuckle.

But hey, interesting fact. Nothing less than what I (should) expect from FftF.

The aircraft carrier plan was because of Britain's lack of them during the start of WWII, and specifically was a mixture of ice and sawdust (and got greenlit when Churchill put a chunk of it in his bathtub overnight and it didn't show signs of melting). The issue was that it was incredibly expensive and would've required many thousands of man hours in arctic conditions to gather the ice, so it got punted to the backburner where it melted alongside Germany's offensive war efforts.

I suppose to make an actual reply:

Everything that's canon or at least has basis in canon. With FE, that means the likes of Chrom/Sumia, Eliwood/Ninian, and Corrin/Azura.

To stray slightly from that, Robin/Cordelia-- which is based mostly on how I find their personalities to be similar as well as how they have kinda parallel relationships with Chrom/Sumia.

It is still speculation until there's confirmation. Just because there's overwhelming evidence to support that there's going to be a Dragon Quest character in Smash Bros., it still is neither confirmed nor guaranteed, and even if it were, we do not know who it is, so it's still speculation.

As for Erdrick, I've already pointed out how that makes no sense. That's like saying, "It's going to be the cap-less Link from the prologue of Minish Cap" or "It's going to be Anri' or, "It's going to be The Knights of Hyrule that sealed away Ganon in the Imprisoning War before A Link to the Past". Erdrick has always been either a heroic ancestor or a title given to the hero at the end, not the hero.

Meanwhile, for just one example, the Luminary is the hero in 11. He also has a variety of moves that would set him apart from other Smash characters, he's well-known to Japanese and Western audiences alike, and you already said earlier: "Smash always picks the main characters", so by your own logic, Luminary is more likely than Erdrick.

You're right-- Erdrick is a title, not a proper name.

Given both to the DQIII protag and the Luminary.

With a similar skillset and title, I don't see why they can't be two costumes for the same character in Smash.

I'd agree except for the fact that the bulk of the advertising has placed emphasis on Edelgard. I haven't done the math, but I'm willing to bet that she has been present on-screen in both trailers (when put together) than Byleth. One might say that the same could've been said about Azura, but that's because Corrin's almost never in the actual cutscenes in the game. That's not the case with Byleth.

Plus, people are sick and tired of FE sword users, and there's no way that Nintendo doesn't know that.

Nintendo hardly gives a damn about fan demands. Many of those same people bitched about Joker's inclusion. Hell, Chrom got included in one of the few instances where fan demand actually influenced character choices.

And as Byleth is a Teacher who can use every weapon in the game, I don't see why they couldn't make them a weapon master. Maybe have a move or two similar to Duck Hunt's down special and summon a generic unit to attack as well. There's plenty of ways that the Smash dev team could make them unique.

  11. 5 hours ago, Fenreir said:

if that was specifically about the lords from the GBA era, i could eventually agree, but if it was about the entire franchise, hell no.

also, wearing a mantle has always been a sign of royalty/nobility, so it's really no surprise that majority of the main lords always wore one.

but if you're just going to entirely ignore the characters/outfits designs, then there's no point in going further with this discussion.

You're the one who's complaining about "generic designs" and yet half the Lords in the series are blue-haired sword Lords.

We know  nothing about most of these characters at this point in time-- you're the one who passed judgement and said they're so generic you'll probably kill them.
