    Oh no.

    It's Serra.

    Church of Seiros
The Church of Seiros, rooted in the land of Fodlan, was founded by Saint Seiros. In a past conflict called the Hero Wars, they {They didn't say anything about sex or gender} defeated the "Liberation King" Nemesis, and brought peace to Fodlan. It is said that they helped greatly in founding the Adrestian Empire as well.

As time passed, the Holy Kingdom of Faergus became independent from the Adrestian Empire, and the Leicester Alliance separated from them as well. Wars arose over hegemony {honestly not 100% sure how to translate that sentence}, lasting a long time. Currently, a balance of power is being maintained, and this is largely due to the Church of Seiros.

    Crests
Many nobles in this game are descendants of the "Ten Heroes of Fodlan", who participated in the Hero War, and are in the Houses with inherited Crests. Crests are passed down through bloodlines, but there is no guarantee that descendants will have a Crest, and only a select few can make use of the powers.

Crests are separated into "Major Crests", which have great power, or "Minor Crests", which are slightly less powerful. It is generally said that having more blood of one of the Heroes {essentially purer blood, this is hard to translate for me} makes it more likely to have a Major Crest, but there are times when children with Major Crests are born suddenly, so the principles are still unknown.

Honestly, I really hope the fact that Nemesis is referred to as a "Liberation King" is a sign of a morally gray conflict. Awakening and Fates were incredibly bad in this regard, and I can only hope the story telling in 3H improves. We're already getting far better world building than anything we saw on the 3DS, so hopefully the pattern keeps up

Also they might as well literally rename "Crests" to "Holy Blood" and almost nothing would be different, holy-. The only real difference is that the boons they translate seem to differ. As far as I can tell, crests allow access to additional skills they can use in combat instead of contributing to growths? Part of me can't help but wonder if this is some sort of testing ground to see how well a Holy Blood system would work in a modern FE. FE4 Echoes on the horizon?

  2. Ooh, nice! Hilda actually looks really pretty, but she's also giving me a lot of Serra vibes now that I see her. As much as I love Serra, I wouldn't want a Serra 2.0.

Personal skills coming back is also great, but there return seemed inevitable in hindsight. Considering 3H seems to emphasize unit customization, personal skills add an extra way to differentiate each unit outside of growths alone.

I think this was overlooked but crests seem to have a gameplay element.

The preview shows that Byleth, the House Leaders, Felix, Lorenz and Hilda have crests. It seems nobles have them mainly but Hubert doesn't for some reason.

It's hard to tell, but the crests seem to be the ones from the Goddess's mural plus the evil looking one that's connected to Byleth.

Not really surprised that Hubert doesn't have one. There's not enough crests to match to each potential house name on the map, and Hubert's surname doesn't seem to appear on the map either. All of that seems to imply that Hubert's probably from a lesser noble family without much power/political clout.

Also, if Lorenz's surname is on the map and his family has a crest (like the House Leaders), that means Hilda and Felix likely will have surnames on the map as well. Hopefully they actually show which of the crests belong to them instead of just stating that they have them.

  3. Quote

"They're not quite responding to my advances... It seems they're avoiding me."

Gee, I wonder why. It's not like you come off as incredibly unattractive and snobby or something like that....

Also, I believe his surname of Glostar is likely to be localized as Gloucester, one of the names on the Fodlan map. It's interesting, because Lorentz is the first non-lord student to have a last name that is clearly visible on the map. Guess he's (or at least his family is) a real big shot in both Leicester and Fodlan. Maybe he's part of one of the four potential families in Leicester that owns a crest? Interesting either way.

  4. I haven't seen this posted on this forum yet (feel free to delete if it has), but translations have come out for the Cipher cards featuring the three main lords.

Edelgard: "A wise ruler shouldn't take one's words purely at face value"

Dimitri: "I've no desire to be accused of seeing only subtext in what others say."

Claude: "Oh, how innocent - how naive - these two seem next to me, shiftiness incarnate!"

The quotes are... surprisingly darker than I anticipated? They all seem to connect to the ideas of lies and deception. Not to mention, Claude's character appears to be taken a very different direction that what I expected. Not only that, one of his skills is "Scheme Beneath a Smile". I know that the Famitsu blurb stated that Claude was more perceptive than he seemed, but these almost paint him in a sinister light. Although, all these undertones could be due to a lack of context, so it's entirely possible I'm misreading these entirely. Either way, it appears our upside-down archer boy will be some kind of trickster character.

So what do you guys think about these quotes? Did they give you a better idea of what the lords will be like, or did they just bring up new questions?

Uhh I too have flat feet. I own a pair of boots that have zero heel on them and can only bear to walk in them for a few hours.

Heels don't resolve pain associated with flatfeet though. Keep in mind that I'm not a podiatrist, so I may not be 100% correct here, but the issue with flatfeet is that our lack of arches make overpronation (rolling our feet inwards when we take a step) easy. This causes pain in the feet due to our poor form when moving. The only ways to reduce the pain is to either change the way we walk or wear shoes with sufficient arch supports to prevent overpronation.

It's more likely that your heeled shoes force you to walk in a way which prevents/minimizes overpronation and/or your boots with zero heel have very little arch support. I find that flat boots typically have very little arch support inside them which make them difficult for me to wear too, but inserting arch supports negates it. I also have plenty of other flat shoes with good arch supports that I can move around all day in with minimal pain. Doesn't change the fact that heels are still god awful to run around in on a battlefield with, so a real flatfoot soldier would wear inserts and the fact that anyone whose a flatfoot probably won't be allowed to even see the battlefield anyway :P

But this is getting completely off topic and it's probably better we just drop this and actually talk about the game.

Makes sense, though I'm not convinced the gauge and the mood icon are linked in that way. Even picking their favorites decreased Dorothea/Edelgard's gauge; logically that should refill it instead, or at worst not affect it. But that doesn't mean you're wrong about how mood works, just that the bar itself may be something else. Considering in the japanese trailer two it had three segments filled and indicated that you could train three times, in the english one only one segment and being able to train once, and this time two segments and being able to train twice... yeah.

Also this made me notice that Edelgard is talented at Swords, Axes, Authority, and... Armors, of all things, judging from the base rank. And I had never pictured Edelgard as an armor knight until now.

It could be that training in any weapon period will decrease mood, but training in favorite weapons just reduces the bar less. They're still working after all, I doubt all that training wouldn't damper their mood/energy a little.

Also Edelgard as an armor knight actually sounds amazing. We could probably even make her something similar to a Baron from FE4 if the weapon customization is that in-depth.

  7. 3 hours ago, Serea-chan said:

Maybe Edelgard is flat-footed and needs the slight arch support. *shrug* Not everyone can be a Corrin.

That's... not how flat feet work. I can say this as someone with flat feet.

Arch supports inserts that you can put into shoes (or are already in the shoe) that better match the curvature of your feet. Inserts can have slight heels, but from my experience, they are 1.) incredibly short (like 1 cm tall at most) and 2.) can be worn inside other shoes like sneakers.

Not to mention, modern, feminine high heels like the ones Edelgard and F!Byleth are wearing were literally designed to make women walk unnaturally. Arch supports were made to help people like me walk more naturally without constantly rolling my feet inwards. High heels =/= arch supports at all.

No matter how you cut it, these heels are incredibly impractical.

Both Leonie and Lorence have been shown with Bows and Lances; wonder if that's their focus weapons. Hilda, meanwhile, while shown with a Bow at E3 has had an Axe equipped in multiple screenshots in this batch.

It's entirely possible Hilda has focuses in Bows and Axes considering Edelgard appears to be strong in swords and axes (and people fom Adrestisa apparently have an affinity for magic). Makes me wonder if she's a good fit for the fighter class line. It's funny to imagine a dainty, pink pigtailed girl like Hilda as a beefy warrior, but we also had Charlotte in Fates, so who knows!

Huh, that's a bizzare decision. Are they trying to play coy or something because it's a brand new weapon type and don't want to go into the details?

Also, more crests are seen in screenshots this time around, most notably the warp tile(?)

It's also worth noting that the crest seen here is the same crest that was shown in the February Direct emitting the dark clouds/aura when attached to Byleth's sword.

    Spoiler

    EvilCrest.thumb.jpg.1f4c25f381d644cbac531a437e8fc6a5.jpg

Obviously, this could mean nothing, but I can't help but wonder if there's rhyme or reason as to which crests they chose for gameplay purposes. An entirely different crest was used any time magic was cast (healing or offensive) in the February Direct, and then there's this one for warp tiles. Are the crests determined by the house alliegance of the user, or is each crest highly associated with some sort of magical attribute?

So basically this FE will be Customization: the Game. I like what I see so far, but I'll still contain my hype until I see how well it's implemen-

Wait, what's that? Classes don't determine weapons? All this is telling me is that I can make everyone a fist fighter and I've never been so excited.

looks rather interesting imo, though, anyone else notice that hand-to-hand combat/gauntlets isn't in the weapon list? perhaps you don't need a weapon rank to use them.

No, they're on the weapon list, they're the 5th option on the list. The icon is a fist going diagonally upwards.

I'm eh on Female Byleth's design, mostly because I have zero intention on using it as I typically do not use Female avatars in Fire Emblem. I prefer to stick to my actual gender for such characters in games where relationships matter.

Reverse the situation and that's why I'm so vocal about my distaste for F!Byleth's design. I want to play my gender, but I don't want to stare at fanservice all the time. I could tolerate it in Awakening and Fates because the models were generally low enough in quality (but F!Corrin's Nohr Noble outfit was pushing it), but I doubt it would be easy to ignore in TH. Hopefully Byleth can reclass early on as the female outfits are probably more tolerable this time around considering how surprisingly tasteful the female brigand outfit looked.

I think positioning the shine either more towards the tip or more to the middle of the bow would do the trick. But yeah, the "problem" is the fact that the shine covers the part where the bow end starts to tilt. But in the end, it's really no biggie, at least in my eyes.

Oh yeah, frankly this error is incredibly small and it feels like a lot of people are complaining about it because they don't like the box art but don't know what to critique exactly.

There are real aesthetic issues with the box art IMO (such as the use of all three, bright primary colors without any sort of efforts to tone down the intensity and add a more cohesive feel to the piece, making it feel like someone slapped it together in 15 minutes on MS Paint), but the issue with the bow( and just getting mad about the box art in general) is hardly something to be up-in-arms over.

  12. 9 minutes ago, Ziegenpeter said:

Looking at Claude's bow again and...I think it's actually not a mistake? Seems like both ends of his bow are just designed in a disorted way.

It's entirely possible that's the case, but the issue is that the art is still depicted in a way that makes it appear as an error. It should've still been drawn in a different way to avoid this mistake, such as altering Claude's position to make the bow's bend not be obscured the shine or maybe dimming the shine.

It's like Elise's official artwork in Fates. She's obviously hiding her right pinky behind her ring finger (as I refuse to believe a professional artist can somehow miss drawing only 4-FINGERED HAND on a blank background), but the way it's drawn still makes it look like she's missing a finger if you're not really paying close attention.

If you look closely at this leicester alliance crest/emblem/whatever ot is called in english...

Top left is the moon we all know.

Too right is the symbol that is also in the center of the healing spell from Linhardt. It is also next to Dimitris crest.

Bottom left has the weird circle that is under the woman who is on her knees and dressed in white.

Bottom right is a little hard to make out, but the center of the alliance had these 4 crests in mini again and I think this one is the crest that is to the right of the 'weird circle'.

Sorry for not being able to provide more pictures. I am on my phone and it is the middle of the night.

Oh, I see what you're talking about. You mean these, right?

    image.png.5714dbf015cfc0bf8da00a41a7080fd3.png

It's interesting how the emblem of Leicester emphasizes these crests in particular, it really suggests that the country only has 4 crests, as it would be strange for it to have more but also have them not represented.

EDIT: Also, the rightmost circled crest has been seen before during the two times magic was cast in the trailer - first the healing magic by Linhardt and then the offensive fire spell cast by the Western Church soldier. Unless it was just a placeholder crest for trailer purposes (which part of me really doubts) I guess crests that appear during magic spells cannot be tied to the house of the caster.

  14. Black Eagles

    Pros:

    • Edelgard is both a lady and an axe lord
    • Has Petra, Caspar, Dorothea, and Linhardt - the perfect meme team
    • Though we don't know his name yet, the older, edgy looking dude looks really interesting to me. Really want to learn more about him (I initially thought he was another teacher in the first trailer!)

    Cons:

    • Literally everyone and their mother is choosing this team
    • Dorothea is a meme and she does look nice, both positives, I'll admit that the hat bothers me for feeling a bit out of place and badly photoshoped on her head.

    Blue Lions

    Pros:

    • I love literally everyone we've seen in this house so far, no complaint about any of them!
    • It's the underdog team based on popularity, and I like siding with these kind of teams
    • Dimitri is a lance lord
    • Outside of his in-game portrait, Dimitri looks fine...

    Cons:

    • But in his in-game portrait, Dimitri's hair looks like a pathetic pile of wet noodles. I don't understand how his hair can look so much better in 3D cutscenes but look like hot garbage in a more detailed still image

    Golden Deers

    Pros:

    • Claude is 100/10
    • BOW LORD
    • Raphael is literally a blonde Arden and I love it

    Cons:

    • I don't really like anyone we've seen so far outside of Claude, Raphael, and Hilda. And I'm only really okay with Hilda because she reminds me of Serra and I thought Serra was hilarious. Everyone else is a big fat pile of meeeeehhhhh

I've also been looking into that. I broke it down by number of Houses/Locations/Cities in each region, and found a really cool pattern.

We know the Crests of the 3 main protagonists because they are shown on the map. Gautier (part of the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus) also has a crest, but which one is unknown. But looking at the Seiros Mural and the locations of the Main 3 Crests, the breakdown worked out perfectly.

This could all be a coincidence and pure speculation, but it works out so well.

Nice! It'll be interesting if the pattern does end up with crests being grouped by country.

  16. Ooo, nice. How detailed this map is really gives the feeling that Fodlan is a real, developed place. Infinitely better than what we got with Fates and its no-name continent. Hopefully we can finally get an official name for Fateslandia when the artbook drops? I'm not counting on it unfortunately.

So, some quick analysis here. We currently know 4 full names of the characters in this game: Edelgard von Hresvelgr, Dimitri Alexander Blaiddyd, Claude von Riegan, and Sylvain Jose Gautier. Ignoring spelling differences, all 4 have their surnames as locations on the map, meaning they likely indicate the different noble territories within Fodlan. For now, I'll operate under the assumption that every single noble house shares their surname with their noble territory. So, ignoring map names that obviously describe geographic locations (Fodlan's Fangs, Brionac Plateau, etc.) or institutions (Western Church, Eastern Church), we can probably figure out the names of all the noble houses in Fodlan:

    38. Edmund
    39. Kupala
    40. Ailell
    41. Daphnel
    42. Gloucester

Assuming that all these names I picked out actually are noble territories and not single-word geographic locations or other such places, that's 42 noble houses total.

We also know from the mural with the goddess we saw in the first trailer, there are only 21 crests. With all this information, we can make two assumptions:

    1. Not every house will have a crest. This could be for multiple reasons, such as some noble houses emerging recently or perhaps not ever being associated with a crest to begin with. This could be an interesting plot detail, with crest-bearing houses potentially having greater control or power? This could serve as a source of internal conflict within each country too.
    2. Assuming every noble house has at least one child that attends the Officer Academy, there will be at least of 42 students in the monastery. Obviously, there could be more through siblings and such, and there's always the possibility that some noble houses won't have any children of age to attend the academy, but if there really is 42 students in the academy, it's entirely possible to have a decent-sized FE roster that consists of only students and maybe some teachers if we really are able to recruit the students from the other houses at some point.
  17. Romance honestly feels inevitable with how common this trope is in Japanese media. Admittedly the lack of a large age gap makes everything more palatable, but the power dynamic is still an issue. Unless we can romance the other teachers or any non-students that get added, I'm definitely going to avoid S-ranks. Or if there's any point in time where the students graduate and they don't refer to us at "teacher" or "professor" anymore. Still a bit squicky but infinitely more tolerable.

Babies are a huge no-no though, and I have faith that IS is really going to avoid doing a Gen 2 unless necessary considering the backlash from Fates.

  18. While the trailer seems to emphasize you training your class and your class alone, class size seems pretty small right now. Accounting for students we might not have seen yet, ~10 at most for each house. Unless there happens to be like 20 or more students hiding in the woodwork that will be part of our army, I really can't imagine a scenario where our class alone comprises the majority of the roster. And frankly, I really hope it's not only our class, as that'd be a bit boring. I'd like to have some more unique perspectives in the army, not just a bunch of noble teenagers/young adults.

As for the recruiting the other houses? It's really hard to say without more story details. We don't even know if our houses will actually all fight in opposite factions or not in the inevitable war. While it would be cool to have your choice absolutely matter and lock you out of the other students, I really doubt that we're not going to recruit the other 2 house leaders and maybe a few others that are willing to defect to our house if we do end up fighting each other. But because they'll likely be added to our roster long after the initial peaceful classroom days are over, I can't see 100% full customization being a thing. We'll definitely be able to customize them after recruitment, but there will be certain things set in stone I believe.

Woah, I agree that the design is dumb, but I wouldn't go that far. At least her outfit makes more sense than F!Corrin!

Wow, okay, coming back to this after a night I do agree my reaction was a bit extreme. :P: But to be honest, I really do think that F!Byleth's design is worse than Camilla's. Obviously, in a vacuum, Camilla's design is faaaaar more sexualized and egregious than F!Byleth's, but the issue is not that she happens to be sexualized, but the context that she's sexualized in.

As much as I love Fates, I'd be lying if I didn't say there was a ton of sexualization of characters. Look at Charlotte, the generic brigand, the entire dark mage line, the pantless leotards of cavaliers and dark knights, etc., sexualization was everywhere. And as terrible as Camilla's design is, it's par for the course. Place her next to the other Fates characters and she fits in perfectly. Same logic applies to F!Corrin and all her horrid designs.

However, the same doesn't really apply to F!Byleth. Every character we've seen so far is generally covered up, and those that do have a lot of skin showing (Petra, the female mage teacher with the bob cut) feel natural and tasteful. Are their designs, sexualized? Yeah, but it still manages to fit the setting. It's not done in the way that feels like someone took scissors to them and cut random holes in their outfits like how it worked in Fates. F!Byleth, meanwhile, feels like she follows that scissors-style. The belly button hole and patterned pantyhose don't feel natural at all and if you were to compare F!Byleth to any of the female designs shown in the game so far, it feels out of place and incredibly bizarre. And compounded by the fact that she's meant to be a teacher in a prestigious military academy meant for only the most elite of the continent? I'm sorry, it just feels 10x more wrong than Camilla's or Corrin's designs will ever be.

But hey, that's just my opinion on the matter, you're free to disagree with me on this.

I understand, though I'm pretty sure those passive buffs applied as long as the Yato was in his inventory; it didn't matter if he had it equipped.

I agree about the darkness thing. That'll be interesting, especially when you also consider Byleth's black armour (why am I now suddenly tempted to name him Zelgius and give him blue hair in one of my playthroughs?) and outfit.

It kind of reminds me of the trailers for Final Fantasy Versus 13 (the game that ultimately became the far worse game Final Fantasy 15) and seeing Noctis using all those clearly ghost-inspired abilities (phasing, teleporting, summoning his ancestors' weapons, not to mention the in-lore connection between his abilities and the goddess of death in the original version of the game).

It'll be interesting to see what they do with it. I wonder if the fact that it's a whip-sword when the seeming bad guy uses it, but an ordinary sword when Byleth uses it, is plot-relevant in some way? I suspected that the sword might be part of a dragon spine or the end of a dragon tail because it's a whip-sword and because of the particular notches on one side of the blade.

Yeah, you only had to have it in your inventory, but it was dead weight and made you only have 4 slots to work with instead of 5. It limited your options for not wanting to be in a sword using class.

I have no doubt the sword is probably going to be one of the game's major relics (if not the major relic), espeically with how devastating it was in the first trailer. Makes you wonder how a sword so powerful and potentially central to the church landed in the hands of Byleth.

it looked like each unit has advantages in certain classes and disadvantages in other (learners some faster some slower based on personality)

One thing that could play a part in this is that each student appears to have a locked focus (what they improve their skill in), you can' only add on to that focus. It probably means that each student already has their own talents that they excel in, it's just up to you to either boost them even more or supplement them with other skills.

Okay... I'm just more excited about the story (and possibly gameplay) potential for this: a hero holding a sword we saw a seeming villain character using as a whip-sword.

Sorry, I'm just annoyed because I hated how you were pressured to keep Corrin in a sword-using class in Fates in order to play optimally because of the passive buffs the Yato carried. There's definitely some cool story implications though, especially because Byleth seems surrounded by darkness in that scene, and FE heroes normally don't get heavily associated with darkness.
