  1. You make a good point, he probably didn't come across them. -- He said he really likes the story, so here's hoping that they touched it up a bit considering the general negative opinion I've seen in regards to it.
  2. "Is there any references or easter eggs to past Fire Emblem games?" "Not that I've seen." ... *stares at Odin, Selena, and Laslow* HMMMM.
  3. I think it's only worth it if the pairing itself holds value to you. Otherwise, it's not like there's any exclusive gameplay benefit to it or any benefit at all that you couldn't get by simply marrying him with female Corrin. It's kind of sad. You just lose out on two characters and two stages. But I guess you kind of have to ask yourself if it's worth marrying any first-gen, non-Kamui-sexual character because one child unit is gonna get the axe no matter whom you pick (if you're Male Corrin, anyway). If the pairing gives you emotional satisfaction and makes for a more immersive experience, and that holds more value to you than the children, then more power to you.
  4. Nintendo posted a video on their twitter with some battle tips, and you can hear Peri speak about two and a half minutes in, albeit only one quiet line. She doesn't sound bad from what I can hear, though she sounds a lot calmer than I would have expected. It's just one line, though. I'm waiting for some of her inevitably bloodthirsty lines to come up... Benny's voice, holy cow that is deep. I am okay with this.
  5. I know in the Japanese version, after you got a character to an A rank, they'd have several "heart meters" that needed filling by face-petting them, and when you filled all of the hearts (one per session), they'd have a short monologue that's like 15 seconds, 3-4 sentences long. I'd assume that'll remain the same, just with one heart filling per time you invite the character.
  6. Oh wow, Felicia actually sounds cute in her My Room dialogue. How peculiar considering everything else I've heard from her has been kinda cringe-worthy... I may warm up to her yet.
  7. Kind of have to agree with this. We haven't gotten much of a chance to get used to Fates yet. From what we've heard, the dub doesn't quite seem as good as Awakening's, but it's still early. First impressions are fine and all, but it's sad to see people dismiss the entire thing already. Were people this up in arms about Awakening's dub when it was first revealed? I would theorize that part of the problem is that the fanbase has gotten much larger since, and more people have gotten well-acquainted with the Japanese version of Fates prior to its English release, but I haven't been around the forums for long, so I don't know how familiar people got with the Japanese versions of past games that were localized.
  8. I agree with the TC in that it feels like a step down from Awakening. Some things certainly could have been better. -From what I've read of the game's localized script, it's kind of lacking that spice that Awakening's writing had. It may be too soon to tell, though. -Lip syncing is off, but I don't really care that much because I imagine it's hard to get the dialogue to match whilst simultaneously not changing the sentence too much from what it's supposed to mean. I'd rather the characters' dialogue be as true to their character and the situation as possible rather than be morphed for the sake of OCD lip syncing. However, the the English lyrics to Lost in Thoughts All Alone sound kinda awkward, even if Rena Strober did quite a nice job singing it, imo. -Voices seem to be hit or miss. You've got some characters with voice actors who really sound like they know what they're doing (Leo), and some characters with voice actors who sound like it was their first practice session of their first time acting (Felicia). I can't think of the last time I played a game where I felt such a difference between what I feel is the best and worst of the cast. -The removal of dual-audio doesn't bother me, personally. I've already played through the Japanese version anyway, so it's part of the fun for me to see how the characters feel different with their new voices. -I'm on the fence about the skinship removal. I don't really care that we can't rub faces anymore, it got old pretty quickly anyway, but I'm kinda bummed that they may have cut out a lot of lines. Overall, I think it's a decent localization, but mostly, I'm just glad that it's almost here and I can experience the game in a new way.
  9. Anybody else notice how it says on the bottom screen "if you marry someone, new events will occur"? The Japanese version had face-blowing (which I'll be honest, I really didn't care for), waking up your spouse by rubbing them and your spouse occasionally giving you flowers or whatever. I wonder what they kept...
  10. When playing Birthright, I will miss having Arthur, Effie, Flannel, and Niles around. Effie and Flannel are such great tanks, Niles is a fantastic mage killer, and Arthur... is Arthur. No explanation required. They were all just really fun to use in Japanese Conquest. When playing Conquest, I will miss Saizou, Oboro, Takumi, and Tsubaki. The former two have really unpredictable growths which make them fun, Takumi is just a killer archer, and Tsubaki is fun to use as an early pegasus knight. I'm getting the SE, so there's no character I'll truly miss out on, but playing through each version sure does make me miss some from the one I'm not playing...
  11. I noticed that line with Elise, too, lol. Figures they'd shoehorn some lines like those in somewhere. Hmm... with the Marriage Seal being renamed Partner Seal, it makes me wonder what relationships they're going to change from "spouse" to "partner" like they did in Awakening. Grey and Midoriko would make sense at least, but I'd be kind of upset if they changed any for the first gen characters, like the male royals, and then you suddenly can't be the mother of Shinonome, Siegbert, Kisaragi, or Foleo. Hopefully that's not the case. I also had a silly thought. I wonder if Rinkah retains that oh-so-enthusiastic tone when you walk into the shop if you're married to her, lol.
  12. I think Tsubaki sounds fine. His laugh is a little jarring, but I don't have a problem with him otherwise. Pit-- I mean, Dark Pit-- I mean, Silas sounds good during his little protest toward Corrin. I love Rinkah's response to the Avatar entering the shop. "Oh... you're here." Lol... Gunter's seductive tone is freakin' hilarious, oh my god... Kagerou sounds good from what little she said. Felicia is the only one whom I still think sounds terrible. The rest are growing on me, even Hinoka and the not-so-deep voice of Xander. I like how Hoshido seems more scathing toward Nohr, and how the siblings seem to have the impression that all Nohrians are savages. Makes things less black and white between the two kingdoms. In regards to the skinship issue, I'm so relieved to know that they're still using the 2D models. They seem to be playing just the animation that happens after the face-rubbing is finished. What I'm wondering, though, is what animations and how much dialogue they're actually using. In the Japanese version, characters had three different animations and dialogue that would play after the fact depending on where they wanted to be petted, one tied to their head, one to their face, and one to their shoulders. I wonder if the English version will cycle through these animations randomly, like how the Japanese version randomly assigned one area they wanted to be petted, or if you get a specific one based on your support rank. Also, there was a lot of extra dialogue that played during the face-rubbing itself. I'll be a little bummed if that's all cut, but I am glad that we at least got something.
  13. Ah, it looks great! I mean they kinda repeat the same design over and over again, but oh well. I think that was a really good idea to flip the box art... I might do the same... Excited for the livestream. He better go in the My Room building so we can see what replaces skinship, if anything...
  14. My annoyances with the game would be: -The younger model for female Corrin. I just strongly dislike how she looks, I dunno, there's something really awkward about her. -Male Corrin's hair options can't be, I dunno... more normal-looking? -The designs of both Kanna's. I wasn't much of a fan of the tight body suit to begin with, but that giant kerchief really isn't helping. -Male Corrin's giraffe neck. -The fact that you lose one of the kids if you play as male Corrin and marry a first-gen female. -This has always been an irk of mine in regards to anime, but the female hairstyles that gain volume as they get longer. Camilla's and Charlotte's I can accept because their hair is wavy, but Azura's hair, Nyx's hair, and Elise's pigtails just bother me. Nyx in particular looks like a Christmas tree. -The fact that Azura doesn't wear that awesome dark-colored dress in Nohr. -The hair color of Azura's second child. It's off. -The lack of certain hair colors coupled with the abundance of blues, blondes, and reds. -Mitama's portrait. She looks slightly smaller than everyone else, and the proportional inconsistency bothers me. -Takumi's live 2D model. It looks strangely off. -The design of dragon Corrin. I think I'd like it better if the joints of its front legs were the other way and it looked like it actually had a mouth. How is it supposed to eat? -The fact that Takumi does nothing in chapter 5. Dick. Yeah okay maybe he didn't have a bow on him also jk I actually really like Takumi -Setsuna's growths. They just seem really bad as a whole and if you want all the kids, somebody's going to have to deal with them bringing a lot of averages down. -Units that start off really weak when you get them, not that this hasn't happened in past games, but still. Thanks for making it hard to use Charlotte, game. -The fact that after you build the accessory shop, characters keep asking you for accessories and it never ends, even if you get rid of it. Yeah, it can help you build supports, but most of the accessories look really dumb to me, so then I have to waste time going back in the shop and removing all the ones I gave out. I may just avoid building the shop entirely because of this. That's all I can think of for now. I love this game, but I do have a lot of little irks, lol. I over-think things too much.
  15. I'm fairly certain that they're going to change "Shinonome" and probably "Hisame" as well. "Sir, what about these names?" "What are these? 'Shin-no-gnome' and 'Hee-saym'? Chage 'em." Hopefully they keep them Japanese, at least, if they do alter them. I'm still confused about Nishiki's new name...
  16. Thanks for the insight, I like these reasonings. I just wish my own personal mental associations wouldn't ruin everything, lol. Ah well, there are very few names which I would truly call "bad," just ones that I'm not all that happy about thanks to personal preference. I'm glad that the localization team actually did their homework with many of these. Lmao, I never thought about this, but now I can't unthink it. Thanks so much...
  17. I'm not too bothered with the name changes. I mostly prefer the original Japanese names, but the localized ones aren't anything I won't get used to. --Changes I like-- Tsukuyomi > Hayato: Less of a mouthful, and I kinda like the latter name for some reason. Benoit > Benny: The latter just sounds so cute, matching his truly gentle nature, and I like that. Eponine > Nina: The Les Mis reference was neat, but I think Nina is really cute. Yuugiri > Reina: Very pretty name, I like it. Crimson > Scarlet: Again, I just plain like the new name a lot. --Changes I plain don't like-- Marx > Xander: Marx just sounds far more mature, and the character is like the definition of mature. Leon > Leo: Leon sounds more regal. When I think of "Leo", I think of a more wild guy, which he totally isn't. Joker > Jakob: I'm just not a fan of the name Jakob. Zero > Niles: Thanks to 90's television, I associate the name Niles with someone who's either high class or prim and proper, which is not at all like Zero. Mozume > Mozu: What kind of name is Mozu?! Matoi > Caeldori: I'm expecting it to be pronounced like "Kayl-dohri" and what kind of abomination is that?! --Changes that just kind of bug me, but I'll get over it-- Tsubaki > Subaki: Like it just seems unnecessary and changes the meaning. Harold > Arthur: I don't understand why they didn't just leave it alone, I mean they left Charlotte. Why not Harold? Pieri > Peri: Curse you, Peri the platyp-- I mean, uhh... Nishiki > Kaden: Just... why? Syalla > Rhajat: Like... how do you pronounce this even. I'm just saying it like the tiger from Aladdin. Macbeth > Iago: I just can't think of anything else other than a loudmouth parrot. The rest I'm pretty much okay with. Although it bothers me seeing Ryouma, Saizou, and Kagerou without the "U's" I can see why they changed them in order to make things more in-line with how English speakers pronounce stuff. I know enough people who butcher their pronunciation of Japanese names as is. Either way, I'm not gonna let any name changes ruin anything for me.
  18. From what I'm seeing, I'm guessing that the primary reason for people cancelling their pre-orders over this is because of the principle of the matter, not just because they can't pet their waifu/husbando or whatever. Some people feel like if they buy the game, they're sending the message to Nintendo that they support the decision to cut content from the game and give us what's technically a lesser product than what was initially created. It's their money. They're entitled to spend it on what they deem fit. I'm disappointed that skinship was removed, but I love the brain-racking, stress-inducing gameplay of Fire Emblem too much to not have $80 worth of fun out of Fates, personally. I sincerely hope, though, that something that utilizes the models still exists in the game, because they really are glorious and expressive, and there's a lot of extra dialogue that came with skinship. One character talks about his parents, another about his eye, a few reveal their true identities to you... I mean is all this supposed to just disappear, lost in localization? That's where I'd be upset. If it was changed so that they just show the model and the character talks with you, there's just no petting, then I'll be completely okay with that. All we'd be missing out on then is the act of rubbing a touch screen, which gets old after a while, anyway.
  19. I'm actually quite confident that Xander is voiced by Gideon Emery. Funny that no one else has mentioned him at all anywhere, it sounds just like him, especially in earlier Fates trailers. What makes it more likely is that Gideon voiced Gaius in Awakening and will probably be back as Grey.
  20. You can hear Effie say "Strength is everything" in Projared's Conquest preview video. Her voice, I just... I did not expect a gruff voice like that for her at all, lol.
  21. Thanks! Lol, from what I know about Kaiji Tang, I like him, he seems pretty funny. If he was brought back for Odin, hopefully it means Liam will be back for Laslow, then.
  22. Lmao, are you talking about Macbeth/Iago with that? To be fair, he was saying "Garon-ousama" which means "King Garon", but it does sound like "GAROOOUUOOON-SAMA" lol. Did he? Nice. I guess I just can't tell because of the insanity in the Fates quotes we've heard, lol.
  23. Hahaha... some of these hypothetical scenarios are priceless. With them being friends and all, I can't imagine how many takes they had to do of that one line. Hilarious... It's really too bad none of the other actors have said anything about it, maybe Patrick didn't troll them as hard. -- Curious that the US version of Fates is larger... fingers crossed for skinship having been replaced with something that still utilizes the models, if it's really been replaced.
  24. Yeah, they could be the same and I'm just not hearing them well enough, or maybe like lordcorrin said, perhaps they're sounding a bit different for various reasons. I'm worried about Inigo-- er, Laslow as well. Liam O'Brien has a very distinct voice and I liked his performance, so I'm a little apprehensive at the thought of a sound-alike if they can't get him back, but I guess we'll see.
  25. Just wanted to say that I heard one of the reasons why Matt Mercer had an awkward time recording the confession lines for Awakening was because the voice director, whom I believe was Patrick Seitz, told Matt that he wasn't allowed to break eye contact with him while saying his lines, lol. In any case, if a person was sensitive enough that they'd have issues saying lines like these to the point where they'd refuse a job, they probably shouldn't be a voice actor. I hear finding jobs as a VA is difficult enough as it is, let alone if you're going to be picky about it. So I very much doubt that voice actor discomfort was a reason for skinship being likely removed.
