  1. Bad: Goofster plot Good: New pair-up system, challenge, new classes
  2. FE4 is headache garbage tier. Fates best because it lets you actually use kids beyond Lucina/Morgan/Kjelle/Laurent
  3. Note that in the world of Fire Emblem we don't have the 24/7 mass media coverage of high elected officials that we dubiously enjoy in our modern era Even the ability to see what Uther looked like could be difficult in a world with no cameras
  4. Mitama. The poems thing won me over at first glance, but I like how in a lot of her supports she actually goes into the form and philosophy of haiku. Plus she inherited all the semi-sarcastic battle quotes from her father.
  5. So I was excited to get to Ch 24 because I saw this thread that said it was hard, but then I beat it on my first try without any trouble Just bumrush 33 def Oboro straight down the middle ezpz
  6. But Elise is technically an adult so it's okay
  7. Corrin x Mitama get schooled in poetry
  8. By offensive I meant intelligence-insulting. Things like meeting your long-lost birth mother after a lifetime of separation only for her to die the very next scene and it's supposed to be some huge tragedy. I will say Fates has some good moments, but it also has crippling, crippling bad ones.
  9. Shadow Dragon is better by not being offensively bad. Plus what little writing exists is really good. But Fates has such goofy plot devices and scenes it's hard to even sit through it.
  10. Actually, my first post in this thread was a discussion of how the concurrent failures of Radiance Saga, Super Paper Mario, and Advance Wars: Days of Ruin in the span of about 3 years caused a total change in the priorities of the company
  11. FESS and PoR have fantastic stories. Outside of Fire Emblem, TTYD and Super Paper Mario illustrate the strengths of the IS writing team. They are not bad writers by any stretch of the imagination.
  12. Remember Grado? Remember Daein? Remember when Intelligent Systems could do antagonistic nations well?
  13. It's not like being a dedicated healer early on is a bad thing. Many of the frontline units you mentioned have major statistical flaws in one category or another. Azama with bronze will outstrip the offense of at least half of them with much better weapons, and he's a much better tank than most of them too.
  14. Where did this notion that "all Fire Emblem stories are bad" come from. Have you guys played Sacred Stones or Path of Radiance? Those games have spectacular writing and pacing and at least allow you to get immersed in a world. Sure you can pick flaws out of both (PoR's lousy ending comes to mind) and you can strip them down to "Evil empire wants to take over the world," but a story is more than its one-sentence plot summary and to denigrate them like that is to be willfully ignorant of what makes those stories good. At the very least, there's no scene where a ninja hanging from a ledge caused by a sudden landslide throws a shuriken at a crystal which explodes with enough force to knock the ninja and the person he was holding back onto the ledge. I like Fates's gameplay, it's really good, but let's not kid ourselves, the story is turbogarbage. It is unconscionable trash. Awakening's was also. Even previous FEs where I disliked the story (FE7 springs to mind) at least TRIED, the people writing the story wanted to make a good story. In these games, the stories are excuses.
  15. Azama has among the best HP in a game where nobody has good HP. When he promotes his monstrous +8 str gain makes him an instant combat unit even with bronze naginata. Additionally he has both good Def AND good Res giving him a trifecta of defensive stats few units in the game can even compete with, and his other stats are all good too. He can take hits even as a priest, making him awesome for AI manipulation. Consider that your choices for bulky frontline units is pretty weak in Hoshido (Rinkah and Silas are crippled by deficiencies in one stat or another, Hinoka is weak and Oboro is your main alternative) and that the generally low HP of almost every unit in the route necessitates the need for people who can take a hit, and Azama instantly becomes extremely valuable.
  16. Weirdly, high res units seem to be more common than high def units in Hoshido. Kaze also has bizarre high res.
  17. Azama in tier C is comedy central, one of the best units in the route rofl
  18. Orochi is by far the best restank, but it's rare you'll be in a situation where you only need to worry about a magic user attacking you. I got Felicia instead of Jakob, but I agree on Mitama being a great dedicated healer.
  19. Rinkah's non-defensive stats are so pathetic that even including her in the discussion of viable units seems wrong. Somehow she's not only slow but weak too? What? Azama's best attribute as a tank is his extremely high HP. Couple it with his high defense AND resistance and he's the best unit by far to fling into a mob of enemies and come out unscathed. Yeah, there are individual units who have singularly higher defense or resistance stats than him, but Azama excels at being good at everything. He exceeds even Oboro at being good at every stat. The fact that people not only seem to ignore his abilities but actually think he's some kind of garbage unit baffles my mind. I don't really see a reason not to use him as your primary healer instead of Sakura.
  20. 20/1 Azama with Bronze Naginata is still a better offensive unit than most in Hoshido. And he's probably the game's best recipient of an Arms Scroll anyway.
  21. Azama is criminally underrated, his low magic means nothing because HP is so low in general that he doesn't need much mag to heal well, and on promotion he becomes an instant offensive and defensive monster, probably the best tank in Hoshido
  22. Azama is fantastic, staves give great exp and his promo gains are ballistic, becomes an instant frontline unit
  23. Mitama is great, what are you talking about
  24. I only saw the A support version with the exploding crystals, quite possibly the single dumbest thing I have ever seen in a Fire Emblem game
