The first movie is the stuff of legends. I even know people who hate/dislike the franchise but love the movie. It's funny how Paul W.S. Anderson directed it, and then he went and made the Resident Evil movies.

The way Shang Tsung says "Your soul is mine!" is worth ten million Astaroths, man. Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa really did well in that role.

I didn't exactly mean a controlled duel, but rather a life or death situation. Also uh, agility/cunning/ingenuity can really apply to anyone, not just swordsmen. I just used it there to say how a swordsman can defeat his disadvantage. Of course, fiction tends to exaggerate a lot of things, but a very fast person is not far from reality. Blame Sirius for giving me that title. His power abuse knows no limit, as he is trigger-happy and lawfully power-hungry. Truly, a cruel bastard. Everything with him really is serious business, so you better not mess around when he's around...or even when he's not, for Sirius is always watching you, and he will return to the past to watch you more, even if you have hidden your tracks and destroyed your evidence. If that isn't enough, he has agents all over the board looking out for troublemakers for him, or anyone who threatens his position of power. Do not approach Sirius, for you only invite death and despair upon yourself.

Of course swordsmen can't beat a formation of pikemen (unless they have great swords). My mistake in assuming that you were talking about a one-on-one battle.

It's true, swordsmen are at a disadvantage when facing pikemen, but you're exaggerating it a lot. There's one advantage swordsmen have against pikemen, and it's that their movement isn't as impaired, so with a little bit of agility/cunning/ingenuity, they can get to close range and at close range, pikes aren't very useful, but swords are. If that doesn't seem possible, take a great sword. They're made to defeat polearms.

If you haven't yet, try reading Bram Stoker's Dracula (since you like vampires too, apparently). That one is genuinely chilling. And then there are a lot of H.P. Lovecraft's works, such as The Call of Cthulhu. There are a lot of others that I don't remember at the moment, but those two should help get you started. I don't have a favourite genre, by the by (just to be on topic, ha! I am a clever dastard).
