  1. ...Funnily enough I remember his counterpart from Revelations distinctly This doofus deciding not to use his 34 strength instead using his 0 base magic, and to add to the idiocy of it all he has gamble skill, so he is just losing 10 hit in exchange for nothing because his weapon can't crit. The only thing dumber is the armored knight that has no usable weapons in Nina's paralogue if you face before enemies promote...
  2. Turn 21 (so 41 overall) and Marpha is seized. Azel is earning a name as the boss killer at this point as he takes Gandolf out as well. Getting Ayra went fine, although it ended up far enough away that she wasn't able to reach what little combat was around Marpha before we seized (I also played it a little faster than I probably should have in an ironman, but it turned out fine...), so she is still base level. I think this is the last update for the night, as finding a way of safely recruiting Jamke is going to take brain power (plus I am going to go a second round in the arena in Marpha, going all out and healing as we do the slow trek into the spirit forest...) Now for the unit update real quick: ...I just realized I forgot to actually visit any of the villages... I may have to get creative with the warp and return staff...tomorrow... Edit: just one minor thing to add is that I have managed to see all of the unique boss quotes so far by having Midale attack both Gerrard, and Gandolf, and Azel fighting Gandolf.
  3. Turn 14 of chapter 1 (so 34 overall) and Genoa is seized. Not being able to save scum the arena made me hold off from trying the 4th enemy with most units, Sigurd and Quan were the exceptions (although Quan had problems with the 6th, and I had to retry a lot for some roughly 1/64 odds of victory at 1 health...) I tried it with Ethlyn due to her out speeding him, but no dice, so she had to stay at 1 HP until we reunited with Aideen, and Alec was such a failure that he couldn't pass the third (which gave Ethlyn something to heal in the meantime). I did the old trick against Kinbaith of holding a line at the lone tree, killing everything that bothered to attack, while using canto to push Sigurd, Quan and Lex into some obstructionary position for Kinbaith and his handaxe guards, which let me wipe the lot of them safely over two turns (with both Azel and Arden getting a kill or two, Azel even finished Kinbaith off after some Sigurd chip). I delayed a little to give Dew a little xp, and kill the brigand burning the village. Now I am still trying to hold off Ayra, but Alec can do that fairly safely, so I doubt it will be too big a deal...hopefully ...oh wow, how did I forget to have Sigurd talk with Aideen... well I guess I will manage that at some point... Now for the unit report:
  4. Alright, Prologue done in 20 Turns, as I utterly wasted about 2 (or would it be 3 with the Canto Seize...) trying to give the Gerrard kill to someone other than Sigurd. Arden missed the kill, but that is fine, he still leveled, and Azel got it instead. Also I managed to get Ethlyn a kill for funsies. Now for more details than anyone cares about on the units:
  5. ...why am I so tempted to give the Gerrard kill to Arden right now... ....I might have to let the whimsy's of enemy phase decide his fate, as there is a small chance Arden could die if I attack on player phase...
  6. The only one I have decided on, is I think I will try out Azel-Aideen this time, as I haven't before. I will think about the rest as I go. Perhaps I will try out the old meme-y Lex-Tailtiu, and I was hinting at Alec-Erinys before, so I might go with that...
  7. Just 11 turns into the Genealogy Ironman this thread has inspired in me, and Castle Jungby has been reclaimed (would have been turn 10, but I waited a turn to get all the talks before seizing...). I was slightly tempted to "accidentally" kill off Azel to see the alternate conversation Sigurd has with Arvis, but the enemy handaxe wielder went for the free attack on Lex, instead of trying for the Azel kill. Also I feel a little silly for feeding as many kills to Arden as I did. I haven't gotten the speed ring yet, as I want it on Azel, but it will be there soon... I case anyone is curious about my units, here is far too much detail:
  8. The warp and return staff can help with the walking a little. You could always just use someone tanky to bait them out, and retreat to draw them out of the ballista's protective range.
  9. Be wary of this maneuver, as the boss can one shot him (unless your Dew gets a defense level before the boss has a chance to attack...)
  10. With difficulty. Although his ability to steal enemy gold, and pass his gold off to other units is useful, even if he isn't very effective in actual combat.
  11. Project Naga actually fixed that bug if you use the patch.
  12. So much Genealogy activity to comment on since I have been away... Alright time to fully explain the love mechanics (although I wont get into much detail on the jealousy system). Each eligible bachelor and bachelorette have a starting love value, and a number of love points they gain every turn as long as both are on the map (note if one of them is red, or in the castle, or dead they do not accumulate these points). They also gain 5 love points for every turn that ends with them adjacent, note if more than one possible lover is adjacent there is a complicated jealousy system that might send all those adjacency points to the lover with the highest jealousy priority. There are also numerous talks that can gain love points (usually between 50-200 gains). After turn 50, units stop gaining love points. When a pair gets 500, they marry. If you want a suggestion, Edain and Tailtiu are fairly common (although many people like to save Tailtiu for a Lewyn pairing, so that their son can stomp all over generation 2 like he is Godzilla). Lex x Ayra is a classic, although if you can find a way for Lex to get a sword that an enemy drops, that really helps one of the children with inheritance... Awww, you think Eltosian is recruitable 😛 Oh, you haven't looked at his skills yet have you... Ah the old Ishtroll strikes again. Kill him, with extreme prejudice! I am kinda hoping they manage to pull off the triangle attack against you. That is exactly the kinda hubris that leads to them succeeding at that terrifying maneuver. If Blizzard is 90 Acc, than you are talking Gen 1, and yes, people do rage about those kinda misses all the time. Although the Gen 1 miss is the biggest miss to rage against (the off-by-1 error in the code led to a 1/256 of every attack missing...) Alec is not know for his stats, but his skills are rather nice. Pursuit is great, and Nihil is an interesting skill to pass down (in particular if you can pass it down to a flyer, they then are immune to bow's effective damage, as effective damage is a free critical hit in this game, and Nihil prevents to crits in this game) Benice is playing Genealogy too, and training a Dew (good luck, he really, really, really sucks at combat until promotion...)...I may have to cave and start up a Genealogy IRONMAN... She promotes into what many consider the best playable class in the entire series...so yes training her is worth it. The way to pass item between characters is to have one owner sell it to the pawn shop, and another to buy it from the pawn shop. Yes, the Arena is the same as long as it is the same chapter.
  13. Fun fact, if you kill that boss Sandima before recruiting Dierdre she has an alternate recruitment conversation with extra lore sprinkled in. The prologue has no arena, so you haven't missed too much, although you need to do the arena in chapter 2, as having a non-bow user complete the arena is key to a recruitment.
  14. Now Sooks is joining in on the FE4 fun...This is getting kinda exciting...maybe I should take a Dark Souls 2 breather to play some good old fashion genealogy too... Yes, but weapon ranks work really differently in this game, as the are set by you class and holy blood... A good rule of thumb is one save for chapter start, one at each castle seize, and one for the autosave. If you flub up with Julia in the endgame, you may need those three swordsman (Seliph included...) trained up to deal with Julius... I seem to remember him having a strength boosting secret event to help him out. Its nothing like the +5 strength Dimna got last chapter from visitng his home castle, but it helps... You can't even start shipping in the prologue. Plus I prefer her with a bowman. Although you should try shipping Azel with someone for that brief ending mention of the Fire Emblem... There are certain pairing that get acknowledged in game with talk conversations, although there are generally multiple for each of the child bearing women, so how "canon" that makes them is up for some serious debate He does learn THE POWER OF PURSUIT (I know anyone who isn't being goofy should sell that thing off to one of their better units...) Shrug. You can deploy everyone, and people have found a way to solo the first generation with everyone, so use who you want, and have fun. Sigurd is great, and if you want to use him, why not. I know there were no biters for my Dark Souls talk either. If I had a Yakuza game I probably would have tried to join in, but I...don't have one..
  15. I haven't ever been able to take Garon out here. You really need some heavy grinding (or some other cheese) to pull it off (perhaps its easier on the lowest difficulty...) Ah, that makes sense. I will note that Corrin's skill does work with attack stances as well, which is where I think it really tends to shine. I did manage to take Xander out in my Lunatic run...just barely. It took forever to do, with Oboro having to tank the entire way, very...very...very slowly whittling his health down, while finding ways to keep my healing resources from running fully dry...
  16. I have always interpreted FE5 as starting roughly half a year before FE4 Gen 2 starts, with Lief trying to break the siege of Tahra being roughly when FE4 gen 2 starts, but I haven't done the legwork to see if that fits the timeline perfectly...
  17. Its not the biggest deal, a minor boss that immediately charges you in chapter 8 drops it, so he is only missing out on it for that first chapter where he is trapped in the south anyway (unless you did the sneaky strat of passing the return staff, and return band to Nanna, so she can warp the whole crew up to Seliph's starting castle...)
  18. You could just visit a castle with max rank staff/rod shop to buy one. If you ever play Revelation again, you should try for a Selena!Caeldori, as they have a unique parent-child support that is rather interesting to see... ...Yeah that is kinda creepy...in general, not just with a female Corrin. It creeps me out in the same way Fredric posting naked pictures of Chrom all over camp kinda creeps me out. I think its that they are both played for laughs... I honestly don't remember, but I kinda hope its using Oboro at the one tile choke point to whittle down Xander's crew to dust.
  19. Honestly...I've never gotten it in game, I know it gives Arden +5 skill, and I have seen this old youtube video where someone recorded the old translation's version of it (with a hacked game...wyvern Arden...)
  20. I capped all of Gen 2 for funsies once. The tricky bits were getting Johan, Hannibal, and Julia to reach there... @Saint Rubenio did you see the secret event Arden gets in chapter 5 if he is married?
  21. ...Huh, I don't know... you should test it, for science! Yeah I know I always played like that when I first did as a kid (with a jank-ass incomplete translation...), but playing it more, and as an adult I came to appreciate how it plays when you just seize when you get there instead of waiting to march your army about...
