  1. @Troykv He is weird indeed (but we love him anyway). The closest units in the game is Robin (M)-, which has more SPD and def but less ATK and RES- and Winter Tharja- which he is basically a discount infantry version of (having a few stat bumps and no defense).

If I were to use him in the arena today (and had infinite orbs) I would choose the following set:

    Blarraven+/Shine+

    Drawback

    Iceberg

    Fury/Triangle adept/Atk/Res bond/ Mirror Strike/ Deathblow

    Desperation

    Atk ploy (or any other)/Optional

    Brash Assault 3

The idea of this set is essentially to bait an Archer or a red unit to get him low enough and proceed to murder everything. Technically any other mage can run this set (and others have high attack), but it fells safe to not die trying to get in the Brash range. Triangle Adept is to kill any Colorless (without Cancel affinity) or red unit without (much) support. Fury, Atk/Res bond and deathblow are options if you have other units that can buff his attack against blue units. He tends to trigger ploy skills with his high res and ATK ploy fits his "I want to reach desperation range" . But he would be MUCH better as an armor, because the extra defensive stats would make easier for him to survive (and ditch Blarraven against archers) and would grant access to the _____ fighter skills, which would synergize with his low SPD.

Oliver isnt so great for a GHB unit. His skills are meh to inherit and his weapon is utter garbage besides if you want some shiny animation going on. I am really surprised why his weapon has nothing going. Would have been nice to have some kind reversed Berkuts Lance Tome but instead of RES with DEF for mages or so

He's not great, but I appreciate having new units that I can actually use at all.  Making him Micaiah but worse is a bit of a faux pas, though...

Why people are bashing on the MOST BEAUTIFUL ANGEL on the planet?  CAN YOU NOT SEE TRUE BEUATY OR ARE YOU ALL JUST JEALOUS?

Oliver and Michaiah have the same BST (151), with him giving up on 8 SPD,  3 ATK and 1 RES for 7 HP and 5 DEF. Granted, effective Damage is  very meta; but the refined Shine+ can give as much Res and 2+ HP. Oliver thus can run Raven/TA/Bowbraker(or Swordbreaker)/Ploy set effectvily. He has a lot of problems, like the lack of Boon/Bane (he would like a SPD- one), an A skill not supporting his role (Mirror strike for an EP hero why?), not having merges and not being armored (it would give acess to some B skills and more bulk); but he is kinda optimized for his role (Robin does not have much RES and Lute/Linde/Michaia have low HP)

  3. If they make (I do not know how expensive ito make a untis is) unitis that are 4* at release, think they will mostly use untis that are unpopular ones that people would not cash orbs for (like the "anti-Ayras). In the spoilers are the people i think they are going to release a 4* or at least lower to that rarity later.

    Spoiler

    The Kaga games

I am kinda interested in new units from Archanea has a lot of potential. There are a lot of units without much and some (like Draug and Barst) were sort of built from the ground up.

FE4 GEN 1 or the "paired" children probably won't have any 3-4* (Arden was one of the most unpopular and he became a TT reward). The replacement children kinda scream 3* tough. Thracia 776 has a lot of "not very important units" and I think the most probable next 3* dancer.

    Elibe

Rath is too cool to make 3-4 star and Thea. I can see one of the FE6 nomads going 3* tough (my bet is on Shin. Outside of nomads, we could get the Knight trio, Oujay, Dieck's band, Saul.... the list is long.

FE 7 is a very popular game with a smaller roster. I think Lyn's legion is  the most probable (hello Kent, Wallace). I think all dancer are two popular.

    Sacred Stones

Put in everybody we're missing please  Neimi and Colm seem appropriate for low rarity units. As well as Gerik's mercenary crew. Really anybody that's not employed by one of the royal families or themselves are royal. This is a small cast, so it's hard to argue any of them would have few people spending tons of orbs since all players have personally used at least half in each playthrough.

    Tellius

I am not sure we can get a 3 * POR character at all (Brom, Malkov, Danved maybe?). The new non-essencial uintis in RD have a better chance (Laura/Aran, the cat laguz nobody bothers to remember...). Kieran will probable have the same rarity as Oscar. I would LOVE Leanne (but she pretty much 5* only)

    Awakening and Fates

Kellam, Vaike are the most likely to be 4* or 3* (I wonder if people would try to summon a 5* Kellam). As for the children, Inigo/Owain/Severa will likely be more rare than their counterparts.  Fartes has almost all adults (the ones missing are not very popular, except Flora). Children might get a pass.

As for skills, they probably will get 4* skills that were 5* but got out of meta; like the boost skills you mentioned. Hard Bearing is another candidate, since it is so situational.

The 12-character banners seem to be their ways of dealing with that. The Legendary Heroes banners let you replace the regular 5* pool entirely with a larger chance at a broad focus pool, while this and future 4-5* banners let you replace a large part of the 4* pool with specific 4* units.

If they want to clean up the non-focus pool itself on all banners, they could repeat the move from back in August where they took a chunk of the percentage away from the 3* rate and added it to the 4* rate. But the 4* pool is growing so slowly now that I don't really expect that to come up: it seems like we're only getting a new 4-5* unit every ~2 months at the moment, and that may keep getting slower over time.

Well, the 3* pool is smaller (tough that makes getting Hinatas and Robins harder overall). My main concern is the current 5* non-focus poll: it's too big since almost every unit after the release is in there (other than the seasonal ones). I wonder if they are going to address by changing the polls or making constant 4 star-focus banners.

    Pool. I've been triggered.

A poll is a thing where you vote.

That's just shameful on my part. :(

1 minute ago, Ice Dragon said:

All that means is you have a bigger list of limited characters. Although that helps with the dilution of the summon pools, that increases player frustration that the characters that they want are simply not available at a given time.

It's pretty frustrating that more than half of F/GO's 5-star pool is limited (Jeanne Alter is back for a bit over a week after being gone for 15 months) and something like a quarter of the 3-star and 4-star pools is almost only available from the permanent "story banner" that is pretty much worthless to pull from because it will never have the limited 5-star characters in it.

Never stopped to think that people would care for non-focus 5 star. I guess that random +ATK/-DEF Rein CAN be really nice.

  5. 2 hours ago, Glaceon Mage said:

    Seriously.

This is the perfect way to increase the 3*-4* pool, have units IS intends to add to the 3-4 pool be 4* focus units and units to be added to the 4-5 and 5 pools be 5* focus units.

Plus the ability to not bank on a 3% for something in the focus (even if the 5* focus and 4* focus have different units) is amazing.

Please don't let this banner gimmick be one and done.  It's something I've wanted for a while.

It's is indeed a great way to make a "skill" banner for commons and useful skill (such as Fury), and the good news is that (because it makes no sense to add this mechanic in one banner and the announcement says "the is the first 4-star Hero focus"; which implies they plan at least another banner to check the waters

1 hour ago, Ice Dragon said:

The only way to keep the numbers balanced relative to what they are right now is to have 3 characters in the 5-star focus and 3-4 characters in the 4-star focus.

On a theoretical banner with Micaiah, Sothe, and Zelgius as 3% 5-star focuses and Edward, Nolan, and Leonardo as 5% 4-star focuses,

    • Red has a 4.6% chance of being Zelgius, 7.6% chance of being Edward.
    • Blue has a 5.9% chance of being Micaiah.
    • Green has a 12.6% chance of being Nolan.
    • Colorless has a 5.3% chance of being Sothe, 8.9% chance of being Leonardo.

The numbers look more reasonable (except you're going to have a massive pile of Nolans), but that requires the rate of content creation to double.

One 5 star focus and one 4 star focus for each color seems a good idea for focus units in the far away future; since I don't think unpopular units like Macellan would attract much attention anyway. For the "the 4/5 star poll is too big", I think they could make not every unit summonable from every banner or remove some units from the 5/4 star poll altogether (and make healers have their passive skill tree available at 4 star).

  6. This "ideal nature" debate also is dependent on the untis you face in the arena. Hector +ATK -SPD used to be claimed as ideal at first because every defensive unit team would either outspeed him or have a brave weapon. But the dragon unis that are now meta (Nowi, Fae and Y!Tiki) are slowish, reaching around 30 SPD (plus merges), making a SPD +/ SPD neutral Hector not get doubled with buffs,; which saves him in some situations

    2 hours ago, thecrimsonflash said:

though I got a - spd delthia, and I was able to make her pretty good all things considered, basing her around buffing and getting rid of sword users. I guess it depends on what you want to do with a unit, maybe I could run zelgius with a boost skill.

6 hours ago, Ice Dragon said:

At the same time, I think the player base puts too much emphasis on having the "correct" nature when others are viable to build.

The recent banner is a prime example of that. Any Micaiah is a RES tank with lots of attack that can run ploy (and can Sacrifice + Desperation +BA allows as an offensive option with an effective weapon). Zelguius has the same DEF as BK with a DEF bane, so vanilla BK (SB + QR) build on him can tank just as much even (SPD bane might screw him over in some builds, but you can just avoid those). Sothe can be a sweep support (SPD- might demand a partner with hone/supr/drive/whatever, but he can still reach 44 eff. SPD) or use LAD + Desperation (his 39/36 offensives are very respectable).

As far as offesive go, it is more important to have a team composed of units that check common threats in the tiers that you are (ex: Rein + B!Lyn in lower scores and /Armor/DragonsFiresweep in higher eschalons). And for defensive teams, you just want to overwhelm the adversary with cheese so he surrenders.

  7. @Cute Chao Funnily regular banners have a higher chance of getting a specific legendary character as long as they do not share the color with another (ex: 3% for getting a Micaiah in this from a given blue orb against against around a 2.6% of getting a B!Lyn from a in the last legendary). The legendary banner however are excelent for getting a lot of 5* skills/random 5*, but not to get your favorite heores (or a 10+ merge). This reddit post has more details:

Hey, it’s my Micaiah! Even with −Atk, she still reaches respectable 32 Atk. Neutral Celica and Tharja have 32 Atk. Cecilia has 32 Atk. Reinhardt has 32 Atk.
So yeah, 32 Atk is still very good.

She doubling issues, but she`s a great magical tank even with a RES bane. With Zelgius basically BK with more bulk (and an arguably broken B skill) and Sothe having a supportive roles (and reaching at least 40 with phantom speed), this banner is somwhat RNG unscrewable. But sorry for taking her from you :/

  9. I must say, I was not cheering for most of these characters, but the work on them is incredible. I want to pull everything now. And now I have a reason to use Jorge and Sanaki got a most interesting tome.

    Spoiler

Even tough Zelgius is a Powercreep Sword armor and I have 4 of those.

Micky got a lot of hate when RD came, but most have forgiven her

Poor Camilla sure has it rough on Serenes. I do hope we get CYL part 2, with her, Tharja, Chrom and Hector. All of them would probably be amazing units just like the last set, and Camilla emblem would be a lot of fun to use. I'd even want Chrom and Hector if their art turned out good. I'd wonder what would come next with CYL, though. A full year later seems a bit long to continue going off the same poll results, but I think having the poll in the first place was mainly a feh launch gimmick I don't really see them just holding a new one soon to replace it either.

I blame the Camilla hate on Fates' hit and miss supports (and by miss, I mean Gonzales with a hand axe bad) and the fact that her "uniform" never being addressed properly in the series (are noblewomen in Norh peons in political marriges or not? This seems to be case based on the conflict between Garon's mistresses, but I don't remember any dialogue on the matter), which turns her armor into simple fanservice. The fact that she gets into banners she is not exepcted (like NY) does not help.

I also find kinda odd they are only going to release eight characters per poll (4 highest, 4 black horses); since then the next surveys would be a lot of repeated results, and it would take 6+ months to get the data and create the characters. Assuming they decide to release CYL untis for February, given that the CYL theme was about inheritance, CYL 2 could be about being a parent. In this case we probably would get papa!Hector (sword)/Chrom (lance), mama!Tharja (green tome)/Camilla (infantry axe).

So, I got pity broken on the New Years banner by an bad natured Ayra. I'm thinking of sending her home out of spite. But then I lose a good unit for arena scoring.

SAVE FOR MERGES MAH BOI!!! On a more serious sidenote, Swift Sparrow is kinda an awesome skill and she works with almost any boon/bane (except the +RES -ATK).

And so the solution is actually very simple: make more "Heroes with x" banners and have them overlap with each other

It would be nice if we knew in advance what the next Heroes with X would be. IS probably does not rely on orb sales based on that kind of surprise and they could add the 4-star focus for skills not exclusive for 5 stars; like a DB banner. . Additionally, it would be interesting if they could have  limited polls well the regular roster has 250+ heores (ex: only units with damaging specials in a Moonbow focus).

About 3*- True about units those being the only ones usable as 3 stars skill fodder, but for some players it is nice to have the option
to have "skills for feathers" trough the "easily pullable", like all -blade or -raven tomes because people it might take a
while for them to be in a Focus X.

Azura is a dancer with no special skills, and I don't see any harm in giving players more dancer availability. A lance dancer is hardly novel anymore.

As mentioned before, I don't see any harm in giving players more access to Dance and Sing, and Ninian is the only remaining 5-star-exclusive dancer in the standard summoning pool. Her only noteworthy skill is Fortify Dragons, which is a really good skill, but I think it's something that I'd be willing to accept being available on a 4-star pull (Fortify Cavalry, Fortify Fliers, and Fortify Armor are all available from 4-star or lower pulls). Now if Nils comes with Hone Dragons, that has every right to stay 5-star exclusive.

If we don't mind dropping characters with unique weapons to the 4-star pool, I'd also add Olwen, Sanaki, and Leo, also in that order. Possibly also Lyn and maybe even Eldigan (he's stepping on Stahl's toes, though, which is why he's very much a maybe). Lyn, Eldigan, and Michalis are probably the best characters to introduce players to the refinery for unique weapons. Maybe also Jaffar as long as they leave Life and Death 3 a 5-star exclusive skill.

I agree. I think her 5* exclusivity only due to her popularity (along with Ninian). Compared to Olivia (which can be pulled as a 3*), she has +3 ATK, and +2 RES for -6 DEF and a different skill (SPD1/2/3 instead of knockback). Even compared to the recent Flyzura statwise, she has -1 HP, +1 ATK, -2 SPD, -1 DEF, +2 RES.
What differ Dancers is mostly their initial skills (and PA!Azura's legendary weapon) and their weapon type, which give each their "niche" (fortify, raven usage...).
I really don't see why they put Sanaki there  in the first place (she isn't that popular, there are non-5 star with legendary weapon and there is nothing in terms of stats os SI that make her "above" others. Leo COULD be a exclusive if his weapon refinery gets Gravity+ and Pain (because that + Draw back can be annoying).

Honestly, though, I just want more characters to play with and a reasonable chance to get them. I don't care how they get in, be it upping the chance of a 5*, dropping characters from 5* exclusive, or adding in more 3-4* characters.

I pretty much play the same way. The problem I think this current Gacha format has is that even "lucky results" can be unsatisfactory, like getting two B!Lyn and an Innes instead of the targeted Elise.

As a side note, I have the impression that the 1-year banner will be a legendary CYL heroes- part 2 (with the "old CYL" in the focus). NOT BECAUSE I WANT PAPA HECTOR OR ANYTHING.

The *5 pool needs to shrink and the *3 pool needs to get larger. That was my angle this entire argument, improved skill availability is a bonus.

1 hour ago, Ice Dragon said:

People think the pity rate matters more than it actually does. In practice, the existence of the pity rate mechanic as it is implemented is equivalent to if the 5-star and focus rates were actually just fixed at about 3.5% and didn't change.

If Mist were somehow in the 3-star and 5-star pools (for some godforsaken reason), I probably wouldn't really care because the 3-star pool is all trash to me anyways (except Barst and Selena).

Actually, can we just replace the 3-star pool with only Barst and Selena?

2 minutes ago, Ice Dragon said:

The only feasible way to un-dilute the 5-star pool is to also increase the probability of pulling a 5-star character overall (to around 10-20%), and that's simply not happening.

Without increasing the probability of pulling a 5-star character overall, any character in the 5-star pool is guaranteed to have a prohibitively low chance of being pulled. Cutting the number of characters in the 5-star pool in half without increasing the 5-star pull rate still results in a roughly 1 in 400 chance of pulling the character you are looking for if you only pull that color, which is equivalent to approximately 1,000 USD worth of orbs for a single copy. Of course, if you're summoning that many units, you're probably not sniping a single color the entire time (unless you are whaling and are too impatient to wait for a focus banner). When pulling from 3 different colors, you'd have a roughly 1 in 1,200 chance of pulling the character you are looking for from our hypothetical halved 5-star pool.

The dilution of the 5-star pool is something that cannot be solved without changing the game's business model. To get remotely reasonable 5-star pull rates from the standard pool, you either need to reduce the size of the pool to about 3-5 characters per color (not happening) or increase the 5-star overall pull rate to about 10-20% (also not happening).

Sorry to get into the discussion, but it seems you both are pinpointing the same problem: The polls are getting to big to pull non-focus characters reliably (and that can get in the way of getting certain skills). That`s quite a problem that (assuming my memory to be correct) has been on this forum before but I don`t remember if a solution was agreed upon and I know IS has not commented anything about it. It could be solvable by either or having more "skills" banner (as the Focus: Effective Against Cavalry) or limiting the characters obtainable in a focus such as a banner focused with Elibe units only having GBA units. The latter seems to be case (with the details tab), but I wonder if other think they`ll do anything at all or they have a proposal to solve this

SD was an odd first game. It's pretty divisive around here...

... Then again, what FE isn't divisive?

    Anyway, welcome.

    Repost from above post.

Sorry for repost, I could not manage to put quotes in edits.

    Thanks.

Personally, I think this is because SD is a bad entry point. Things like the artstlyle can get in the way of noticing the character's emotions the dialogue and the gameplay design (map, enemy placement...) isn't noticeable except in the hardest of difficulties. I got it because I wanted to play a turned-based RPG in the DS and had already played FF Tactics A2 and Luminous ARC. I played in normal mode and pretty much blazed trough it without much thought or engagement. I only really got into the series with the second game I play (BS). Your thoughts?

  15. 15 hours ago, colossus86 said:

Yeah the DS games are a bit of a low point in the series imo (besides Fates which i hate with a burning passion), and generally should only be looked at by fans who really care for the mythos, as it was the start of everything. I've always maintained that Sacred Stones is the best entry point to the series because its a rock solid stand alone story without extra mechanics like class swaps, children, bio-rhythm to deal with. Not to mention having the most forgiving game play in the series

SS has wonderful characters and supports (it is hard for me to say whether or not it beats POR). The class system is also nice without being overbearing (second seal, etc..). Too bad, like all GBA FE, ponies/prepromotes are op and recruits are not worth the effort. I liked the children as characters in Awakening (because it sorta had a plot, flawed as it may be) for their presence. Gen 2 in fates was weird (and kinda sad, since the actual characters aren't bad per say).

The Brave pull is an awesome idea actually, I really would like to see it in the game :D As for the packs, though what You are saying is right, I still don't feel like people should act this way towards the developers. If it would've been some event reward I would say it's okay to feel bad, but it was supposed to be some nice gesture, not some milestone-reward.

Yeah, gamming communities should criticize better to (including complaining about not getting enough free stuff when getting free stuff). Surveys and forums are the better ways of developer/community interaction, but it is for naught if the survey is not worded properly or if we put a complain about how "we should get more packs when we get a feature". I really wish Heroes had and official forum modded by IS.
