  1. My projections for the Spirits we haven't seen yet: I find it interesting that there's a second row of spirits on the second page. Could we be getting more than 11, this time? I hope we start seeing some other Final Fantasy games get some love eventually. Especially the first one that started it all!
  2. How does Seph's D tilt fare against fast characters? Seems like one of his better answers to, say Pikachu and Sonic. Along with Scintilla.
  3. Oooh, I'm gonna have fun with this. Smash 64 Melee Brawl Smash 4 Ultimate I'll go even further by adding a roster for a hypothetical Smash 6:
  4. Yeah, I really hope SSB6 gives us an overhauled Ganondorf moveset that better represents him in his own series. They can save the trident stuff for Classic Ganon, but I'd like to see Ganondorf at least throw some magic energy balls around, and make more use of that sword. Brawl Ganondorf should have been a clone or semiclone of Ike, if anyone. At least his smashes in SSBU use the sword, though.
  5. Got a new one based on one of my recent projects:
  6. While I would love to see the Light Warriors as playable characters, I would also enjoy seeing a lot of Final Fantasy costumes for Mii Fighters. The style of older Final Fantasy characters would make them ideal for Mii proportions: Brawler - Monk, Sabin, Tifa, Zell Gunner - Edgar, Barret, Vincent, Irvine, Laguna Swordfighter - Warrior, Red Mage, Dark Knight Cecil, Paladin Cecil, Squall Leonhart, Adelbert Steiner Supposedly, Chocobo was actually the top-requested third-party character for Melee. I do think a Chocobo & Moogle duo similar to Duck Hunt or Banjo & Kazooie could be cute. Gotta have the mascots in there! Their alternate skins could be costumes referencing Final Fantasy classes, like Knight, Thief, Black Mage, White Mage, Red Mage, Monk, and Ninja. The more I think about it, the more I really want that. Might just have to swing by the "create a fighter and moveset" thread...
  7. Most types are easy to use, though. The first types you use are Grass, Fire, and Water, and Bug and Flying are common in the early game. Rock, Ground, Poison, and Electric are also usually pretty easy to get. Normal is basically Fighting but worse save for the immunity to Ghosts. A Beast type could at least have more interesting interactions, and still be accessible in the early game as a companion to Bug and Flying. I realize though that my proposed type relations might require a little work. Beast could at least SE itself since wolves, bears, and the like are effective at hunting other beasts. Beast could be mutually effective against Fighting as a rival type of sorts, as wild beasts and trained warriors can be dangerous to each other. Same for Flying, as birds and beasts regularly prey upon one another. I also maintain that Poison and Steel in particular should be effective against Beast. As for moves like Hyper Beam? Well, maybe there could be some kind of Energy or Light Type to handle those kinds of moves. Maybe Normal could be split into two types, one that handles its physical aspects and one its special? Or they could make Hyper Beam a Fighting-Type move, since it's been getting more energy-based special attacks since the Ph/Sp split. Even if they keep Normal as a "neutral" type with moves like Tackle and Pound, they could still consider introducing Beast and transferring a lot of those more animalistic moves - Scratch, Bite, Horn Attack, Tail Whip, Growl, Howl, Roar, etc. - over to Beast. The Legendary Beasts could then be part-Beast just as the Birds are part-Flying, and Pokemon such as Rattata, Meowth, Growlithe, Furret, Zigzagoon, Mightyena, Floatzel, Manectric, Litleo, and Lycanrock can either add Beast to their typing or switch to Beast altogether.
  8. I think the more important question to ask is: "Did my brother bring these mostly overpowered Pokemon to the battle knowing that his friend most likely wouldn't?" Because if he did, then he took advantage of his friend's trust. And while it may just be Pokemon, that kind of mentality can make for a crappy friend. He should apologize, and in the future they need to write down a specific list of Pokemon that aren't allowed, and make a copy so they both have one.
  9. "Mythical" Pokemon are also commonly known as "Event Legendaries", so that should answer your question right there.
  10. Well of course it's going to be shrunk. But the way the Swordfighter handles the sword just won't feel right for a two-handed weapon. I have the same issue with the Black Knight, incidentally. Rex & Pyra, I'm willing to give a pass since the majority of the blade is made of plasma. Anyway, tomorrow Sakurai presents Sephiroth. Make sure to tune in, everyone!
  11. At least Cloud wields it with two hands. Though wielding a weapon is as much a matter of weight as strength; even if you are strong enough to lift and wield the Buster Sword, if your body weight is lower than that of the sword's, especially once kinetic force is factored in, it'll be swinging you around more than vice versa. So, it's really a matter of Cloud being heavy enough to swing the Buster Sword without being pulled off the ground by it. It's like the classic gatling gun scenario; even if you are strong enough to carry and operate a firearm capable of firing hundreds of rounds a minute, unless you weigh as much as a car, the sheer kickback caused by firing so many bullets so quickly will knock you on your ass. There's a reason those things are mounted on vehicles in real life. Even with video game logic, for me it would just look wrong for a mini-Cloud to flip the Buster Sword into the air like a pancake while doing a little twirl before catching it. I know they aren't going to bother adding a new Mii Fighter before Smash 6, so Swordfighter is the best option at this point, but dammit, it just won't feel right to me. At any rate, I'd sooner expect Tifa and Barret costumes, as they map quite handily to Brawler and Gunner.
  12. If they were to make a Cloud costume, I'd want there to be a new kind of Mii Fighter for two-handed weapons to receive it, because the current Swordfighter wields the sword with such little weight that it'd look just plain goofy, as if the mini Buster Sword was made of plastic or styrofoam.
  13. If you had said "Serperior" instead of "Snivy", that would have been my pick. As is, probably Jigglypuff with Meowth. WYR have: Eight fighters from one single series you like Eight fighters each from a different series you like
  14. Pokemon Dance Dance Evolution You play as a Pokemon Dancer who dances with their Pokemon and engage other trainers in dance battles. Naturally, there's a villain team who are trying to harness the power of dance to control Pokemon and take over the world.
  15. I don't have a problem with paid DLC if it's content that couldn't have been added at the original release (say, if it's a character from another game that came out after) or if it's sizeable enough to constitute an expansion to the base game. Extra content requires extra work after all, and that work deserves to be paid. Now, something sleazy like charging someone $1 every time they want to change their character's hair (looking at you, DOA)? That is ridiculous. I also don't buy coins, energy, or extra powerups in mobile phone games, as such games are designed to leech money off you by encouraging you to pay for that stuff if you want to keep playing, make progress, earn top ranks on stages, etc. It's deceitful and exploitative game design. With one-time single payment expansion DLC, at least you know what you're getting. SSBU is an excellent example: The DLC fighters, stages, and Mii Costumes are the result of more hours and energy being poured into SSBU than what was needed to complete the base game, so I don't have a problem paying a little extra for extra content.
  16. Dialogue can be fun to write! Speaking of, now I kinda want Gilgamesh to join the roster in the future, simply because of the comedy gold his Palutena's Guidance could offer. My take: Not to mention, Gilgamesh could have secret taunts for fighters who use swords.
  17. All this talk about stalking and obsession reminds me of why Garland is my favorite Final Fantasy villain. No complex corporate conspiracies, no aliens, no psychological manipulation, no leather coat or fallen angel fetishes...just a badass knight in a full suit of armor with a baritone voice, a transforming greatsword, and elemental powers who kidnapped a princess (granted, he was obsessed with her, but they didn't spend the whole story focusing on that), tried to knock the Warriors of Light down, and created the Four Fiends. I know Sephiroth is the FF villain everyone expects, but Garland is the one I want. To me, he is the Bowser, the Ganon, of FF. He is the Final Fantasy villain. And my FF itch won't truly be scratched until he and the Warriors of Light are added to Smash as playable fighters (I won't complain if Princess Sarah is as well, though I realize she's more likely to just get a Spirit with Zelda or Palutena as her fighter). But in the meantime, I'll have fun giving Sephiroth a go, pitting him against Cloud, Ganondorf, Link, etc. And of course I gotta kick his arse with everyone in the trailer at least once to vindicate them! Especially my boy Link.
  18. My projections: Spirits Aerith Gainsborough Tifa Lockhart Barret Wallace Red XIII Cait Sith Cid Highwind Yuffie Kisaragi Vincent Valentine Zack Fair Professor Hojo Mii Costumes Swordfighter - Warrior of Light Brawler - Tifa Gunner - Barret, Geno, Quote (Cave Story)
  19. Thank you, but it wasn't really a prediction per se, just my proposed choice for Final Fantasy's villain rep since Cloud was, until now, the only FF fighter in the game. Unless they added a different FF hero first, it pretty much had to be Sephiroth. But hey, we can always use this as a list to cross names off of as they add new villains to Smash over time!
  20. You know, it is kind of a pity they didn't bring back that montage they did at the start of Ridley and K. Rool's trailers. Teasing a new antagonist joining the roster is by itself good at building up excitement. Options would flash through the mind: King Boo? Malos? Eggman? Wily?...FREAKING SEPHIROTH!? Given Seph's popularity, it makes sense that he's the first 3P villain to join the roster. And if we were going to add a FF villain, it only makes sense to add the one opposed to the FF hero in Smash, right? It's not like other villains and FF characters won't ever get a chance. If they do a third pass, they might dedicate that one to adding more bad guys to Smash, like Eggman, Wily & Robot Masters, M. Bison, or Cortex. Shoot, for all we know there might be one or two more coming this pass! But I'm still holding out hope for Crash and Shantae myself. Once they're in Smash, then they can start adding more villains.
  21. As of today, Sephiroth has been confirmed to be the very first third-party villain added to Smash's roster of playable fighters, so I'll just go strike his name off the list in the OP.
  22. Warrior, I'll admit could work well as a Swordfighter, but I absolutely do not want more mages being relegated to Swordfighter costumes. Black Mage especially deserves better, seeing as he's the most iconic class of the entire series and at one point was the face of the franchise. (At the very least, introduce a Mii Spellcaster fighter so mages have a proper option.) And I think having four Warriors as a team would be cool and adorable. I was picturing Red Mage and Monk as costumes, as a Swordfighter and Brawler respectively. And hey, Garland's gotta have his chance to "knock you all down!" He is the original Final Fantasy bad guy, and a badass in his own right what with the transforming weapon, elemental attacks, and ability to transform into Chaos. He'd be like Ganondorf, Meta Knight, Robin, and Byleth all mixed into one baritone package with a side of memetic ham. I mean, just freaking look at him! As for a 3rd Pass, I imagine now a good portion of fans will expect another Microsoft and Square fighter in that one too, since they each got one in both Pass 1 and 2. And of course for that exact reason other fans will want them to not get any fighters in Pass 3. But it could be fun to speculate how they'd keep to the pattern! Either Joanna Dark or Lara Croft could work well, leaning towards Croft as she has a little more significance than Joanna. Fulgore from Killer Instinct would also be a good choice, repping not only a Rare series from the Nintendo days but also a still-popular fighting game series, one with a radically different tone to the likes of Street Fighter and Fatal Fury. Speaking of radical, Rash of the Battletoads would be a good option too as he and his buddies were doing the whole "platform brawling" thing long before Smash made it cool. Heck, their signature attacks are even called "smash hits"! Anyway, while Sephiroth wasn't my top pick, I am pleased by the fact his addition means the door is officially open to other third-party villains as well. Now it's only a matter of time before Eggman, Wily, and Cortex join the roster as well. If not SSBU, there's always SSB6!
  23. I want the Warriors of Light (Warrior, Thief, Black Mage, White Mage) and Garland. You gotta have the original, iconic FF heroes and villain.
