  1. I haven't seen the trailer yet, but Purah already looks hot. đź’ś Looking forward to seeing her, Robbie, and Rhoam's movesets later today. EDIT: Okay, now I've seen the trailer. So, no gameplay this time, but still neat to see Purah and Robbie in their prime. I'll be very surprised if they aren't playable.
  2. Tracer. Second Sonic rep. WYR have: Tails Knuckles Shadow
  3. Well yeah, their whole "we're no longer doing games, now it's pachinko with shameless fanservice!" stunt didn't exactly go over well with their established fandom. Their controversial decisions made over the years with the Metal Gear, Castlevania, and Bomberman franchises hasn't helped matters either. I think it's safe to say Konami's glory days are over unless they get their act together and remember what it means to be a video game development company. Their generosity in regards to content in Smash is a start, but they have a ways to go. My recommendation is that they take a look at what fans liked about the classic titles and rebuild from there. Instead of this Lords of Shadow continuity reboot, they need to revisit the classic Castlevanias, perhaps give us a new account of classic Simon's battle against Dracula. Even just an HD 3D remaster in the style of, say, Bloodstained would go over well, methinks. As for Metal Gear, I think that one could use a reboot that cuts out all the cloning and other kudzu plot elements and focuses on the stealth elements fans liked so much about the original and Solid. With Bomberman R, they didn't exactly screw everything up as the gameplay is pretty Bomberman classic, but I question the necessity of, say, The redesign of Bagular is also questionable. I would suggest a reboot, but the series' canon is so nebulous that there probably isn't a point in doing so. A "back-to-basics" title with the Five Dastardly Bombers might be a good way to get the series back on track. A rerelease of the classic titles might be a good idea, too. I think Goemon fans would like to see that series get more exposure, too. Nowadays Westerners are far more comfortable with Japanese weirdness. In that case, I'd recommend a rerelease of the SNES titles along with Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon and Goemon's Great Adventure, similar to my suggestion for Bomberman. After that, they could try a new entry, taking advantage of modern tech to create a truly breathtaking 3D adventure in pseudo-medieval Japan.
  4. I'm ok with Kirby having Hammer, Final Cutter, and Stone by default, I just think it'd also be ok to overwrite them with other specials when Kirby copies another fighter. I'd opt for the simple approach.
  5. I know who Lloyd Irving is, so I'll pick him. Time for another Mega Man rep! Which Mega Man joins the roster next: X Mega Man Volnutt MegaMan.EXE
  6. Bomberman as a Brawler is...interesting. Feels wrong to play him without using bombs, though. Like, they made such an inspired moveset for Steve & Alex that incorporates mining and crafting, but they couldn't come up with a bomb-centric moveset for Bomberman? Yes, he's already an Assist Trophy, but for all we know an AT is going to get promoted to playable within this FP just as a Spirit was. However, the fact Bomberman is now both a Mii Costume and an AT dampens his chances. I wonder if his Spirit Battle will update to use the Mii Costume and song?
  7. Assist Trophy, especially if it's Krystal. WYR: Get a 3rd FP that's all villains Get a 3rd FP that's all females Get a 3rd FP that's all nonhuman
  8. If Spyro becomes a fighter, what if Sparx can pick up and use items for him? Sparx can, say, swing a Beam Saber, fire a Super Scope, or throw a Bob-Omb. At the very least, Sparx could bring items to Spyro if Spyro hasn't taken too much damage (using the idea that Sparx's color changes based on how much damage Spyro has taken, and flat out disappears if Spyro's at high damage). On Spyro's stage, perhaps other fighters get dragonflies as well? After all, we've seen that Sparx can protect other characters besides Spyro. And of course Spyro's stage would have baskets and jars that can be broken open to get items. Or maybe you get gems and can bring them to Moneybags to get an item? Or Moneybags appears as a stage character you can attack for items, much like Nabbit?
  9. An idea just occurred to me: What if, in SSB6, Kirby's Inhale special allows him to copy not just the inhaled fighter's Neutral Special but all four Specials at once? Like say he copies Mario; now he gets not only Mario's Fireball but also the Super Cape, FLUDD, and Jump Uppercut. His Olimar/Alph copy no longer has to segue Pikmin Pluck into Pikmin Throw because he copies both as well as Winged Pikmin and Pikmin Order. Way I see it, overwriting all four of his Specials isn't that big a leap over overwriting one.
  10. Can't believe I didn't suggest this one earlier: The Legend of Zelda Ă— Shantae A Zelda/Shantae crossover would be a great opportunity to explore 2D Zelda again. It could be fun to see the Shantae series' wacky sense of humor applied to Hyrule, not to mention see Hyrule citizens and creatures illustrated by WayForward (I can already picture the Gerudo being tall yet cute, as though they just sashayed in from Sequin Land). The character interaction potential is golden, too; Sky would adore the Rito (she might even find a prospective boyfriend among them), Mimic would find the Sheikah's ancient technology fascinating, and just imagine Bolo meeting the Gerudo. And of course Link and Shantae themselves could be a fun duo to play as. Shantae could get transformation dances for Hyrulean creatures such as Fairy, Zora, and Rito. She could even get a Horse dance that turns her into a handy mount for Link, and later upgrade it to a Pegasus dance that allows her and Link to fly around. It would also be cool if Link could ride Elephant Shantae, or maybe hop on her back to use as a platform. Perhaps Link and Shantae have the ability to carry each other around depending on their form? Link can carry Shantae in her Half-Genie, Zora, or Rito forms, useful for, say, using the Pegasus Boots to dash around with Shantae in tow. She can also ride around on his shoulders as Monkey Shantae. As a Horse or Elephant, she carries Link instead. As a Rito, she can lift Link into the air.
  11. Still room for Crash and Shantae. We'll just have to wait, at minimum, another three months. But now that we have two Microsoft reps in there, what are the odds Master Chief is next?
  12. Crash and Shantae still have a chance, so I'm hoping for them. Spyro and Krystal would be great too, but I know their chances aren't as good as the bandicoot and the belly dancer. At the very least, I want the mutant marsupial and the half-genie hero. Give me those two, and I'll be content until SSB6. So, will Minecraft Kirby turn into a pink block with prisms for hands and feet?
  13. I know Vivi is popular enough that he'd be sure to get in, and it'd be cool if Black Waltz No. 3 was his villainous rival.
  14. Exactly! Might as well not have that law and be open to all travelers like every other town in Hyrule. Would have saved us a good few trips to the inventory to equip clothing that is otherwise functionally useless. Sure, it grants heat resistance, but so does Desert Voe Armor, with significantly better defense, and you can cool yourself down by eating chilly food or equipping frost weapons. But you still have to switch to the Gerudo outfit every single time you want to enter the town, all because the game says so. At least Goron City offers a much better excuse to wear Flamebreak Armor (you'll literally catch fire), the armor itself provides defense on par with most of your other armor sets so you can feel justified wearing it outside the city, and you're presented with an alternative in the form of Fireproof Elixir. But, enough of my ranting about Gerudo Town in BotW. It's interesting that Link doesn't have the Master Sword here. Could just be a choice of equipment, but I'm curious to know if there's a storyline reason.
  15. I don't care for crossdressing, so I don't mind. Far as I'm concerned, the "No Men in Gerudo Town" law is stupid, sexist, and inconvenient. BotW would have been better off without it.
  16. Well, I recall that Dissidia NT had a rather surprising addition in the form of Ramza Beoulve from FFT, the first fighter from another spinoff for the Dissidia series. DNT also added Kam'lanaut from FFXI, who was the secondary antagonist of Rise of Zilart, not the main villain which would be Eald'narche. So, they are willing to throw some curveballs.
  17. 30 warriors is an interesting guide to work around. But at 16 entries in the core series alone, that only amounts to 1-2 fighters per game, which would probably boil down to a hero and a villain Dissidia-style, and my intention would be to give other characters a chance to shine. I mean, sure, there would probably be an expectation to see most of the Dissidia fighters, and sure, why not. But this would also be a good chance to bring in more fan favorites like Shadow and Vivi, and yes, even some previously minor NPCs as surprise additions. While it can be cool to see all the popular characters come together, there's something to be said for dark horse candidates as well; many popular FF characters started out as dark horses, after all. Just as Super Smash Bros. catapulted Captain Falcon to fame, so too could FFW give a normally bit player like Smyth a chance to shine. There is of course another reason I suggest NPCs from FFI in lieu of the obvious Light Warriors: The Light Warriors are generic blank slates with no character or personality of their own. Yeah, Dissidia turned Warrior of Light into a distinct character, but he's practically a Dissidia original. Thus, I thought it'd be neat to bring in some distinct NPCs from FF1 instead and have FFW-original characters be the core four Warriors of the story. Worth noting that, even in HW and Dissidia, not every game was represented equally. HW had no MM or Toon reps at first, and Dissidia only had one rep for FFXI and XII at first. And of course a game like FFW would be prime for DLC, which could add entire games' worth of playable warriors to FFW.
  18. That's a good idea! That would make so much sense for reading Awakening save data, I can't believe I didn't think of that. They might be able to include some variable text in support convos that refer to their father, too.
  19. Koei's Musou series has crossed over with many franchises over the years: Gundam, One Piece, Persona, Dragon Quest, Zelda, and Fire Emblem. But one obvious candidate has yet to be given the Musou treatment: Final Fantasy, one of the most famous JRPG series in history. With dozens of games and a buttload of characters to offer, it's a wonder a Musou title for Final Fantasy hasn't happened yet. For those unfamiliar with the Dynasty Warriors/Musou series, the basic premise is that you play as warriors who are capable of taking on armies of enemy units (hence Musou, meaning "unmatched") using a variety of combo attacks and flashy special moves. Many Musou games revolve around capturing enemy keeps or completing other objectives such as defeating a certain number of enemies or defeating key enemy units. Gameplay is fairly simple; you move your warrior around the battlefield and attack using two buttons, one for standard combos and one for strong attacks. In addition, you have a meter that fills as you defeat foes or pickup certain items. When that meter is full, you can unleash a special attack that wipes out large numbers of enemies, known informally as a Musou attack. In addition to combo attacks and the special attack meter, Warriors will sometimes have unique gimmicks that help them stand apart from the crowd, such as additional meters that fill when using certain kinds of attack which in turn power unique moves, or some kind of consumable yet replenishable resource that can be spent to power up strong attacks. This gameplay has been successfully applied to a variety of franchises, and it only seems fitting that Final Fantasy gets its turn. In this topic, we discuss what we'd like to see in such a game for Final Fantasy, which going forward I shall refer to as Final Fantasy Warriors, abbreviated as FFW. For starters, I'd introduce a new quartet of protagonists who come from a world unique to FFW. This way they're neutral to the other FF installments. I shall thus refer to them collectively as the Musou Warriors. Ignis - A red-haired warrior who boldly leads the charge into battle. His design is inspired by the classic Warrior. He wields swords, greatswords, and spears, the weapons of knights. His classes are Warrior, Dragoon, Dark Knight, and Paladin. Aria - A green-haired girl with a cheerful disposition. She's quite agile and dextrous, dancing and dashing around her foes while attacking swiftly with daggers, whips, bows, and boomerangs. Her classes are Thief, Ranger, Ninja, and Dancer. Mera - A blue-haired woman with a calm, serene disposition. She favors rods, staves, and magic spells. Her classes are Black Mage, White Mage, Summoner, and Sage. Geo - A tall, stoic man blessed with great strength and stamina. He uses fists, axes, and hammers as weapons. His classes are Monk, Berserker, Beastmaster. Their mission is to track down the fragments of crystals from their dimension that have been scattered to other dimensions. They recruit heroes and battle monsters and villains from each dimension they visit in search of these fragments, unlocking new powers and weapons as they progress and level up. Their primary means of traveling between dimensions is an Airship designed by the Cid of their world. Aside from the Musou Warriors, FFW features a varied selection of Warriors from across the Final Fantasy series. Each Warrior has a fixed or mutable class which determines their choice of weapons and skills. Many Warriors, like Terra and Cloud, have fixed classes which are often unique to themselves. Some warriors, such as the Musou Warriors, are capable of using different classes and weapon types. Each Warrior has a Limit Break attack that they can use when their Limit Gauge fills (basically FFW's version of Musou attacks). Following is a WIP list of Warrior ideas for FFW, subject to update over time: In addition to equipping your warrior with different weapons, you can also bring a Summon into battle with you. The Summon can be called using MP. When called, the Summon will perform their signature spell, then depart. Any Warrior can bring any Summon into battle, but they can only bring one at a time, so choose wisely! Enemy units include the following: Goblin Skeleton Pirate Sahagin Sentry Baron Soldier Palamecian Soldier Imperial Soldier Shinra Soldier G-Soldier Alexandrian Soldier Enemy captains include the following: Ogre/Ogre Chief Piscodemon/Mindflayer Black Knight/Death Knight Bomb/Grenade Baron Guardsman Tonberry/Master Tonberry Magitek Armor/Heavy Magitek Armor SOLDIER:2nd/SOLDIER:1st Black Mage Type A/Black Mage Type B Boss Monsters include the following: I got lots more ideas, but I need to get to bed, so I'll post this for now and update over time.
  20. Mostly, it'd be for the sake of coolness. The fact three of them already got in opened the door to what-if scenarios where the other ten join them. Obviously they can't all join Nohr, so my figuring is that six of them join Hoshido instead, and together they try to keep the war from escalating too far. My choices for their classes, alignment, and offspring would be thus:
  21. I'd be fine with Impa replacing Sheik, myself. Then we'd have the four most major Zelda characters in Smash: Link, Zelda, Impa, and Ganondorf.
  22. I'd like to see Fire Emblem: Fates Awakened, a compilation remake of Awakening and Fates with updated visuals and support convos on par with TH, as well as some bonus content. For starters, I'd like to see the rest of the second-gen units in Fates with new names like with Owain/Odin, Severa/Serena, and Inigo/Laslow. Three of them would side with Nohr, six would side with Hoshido, and one - Morgan - would be neutral. Furthermore, the additional males - Gerome, Brady, Laurent, and Yarne - would have kids just as Odin and Laslow do. Awakening gives fighters two secondary classes while Fates gives them one secondary class with the ability to access their spouse and best friend's classes through the use of seals. Between the two, I prefer Fates' class system, including the ability to share classes between units who are close to each other, and so I'd rework Awakening's class system to more closely match Fates'. Some other tweaks I'd make: Chrom and Cordelia have C-S Supports and can now marry. Azura and Camilla have C-A+ Supports. Rinkah has +20% to HP and strength growth. Benny's A+ class issue is fixed; Arthur now gives him Cavalier, and Keaton gives him Oni Savage. Originally, they both just gave him Fighter, which he already has.
  23. Frank West out, Shantae in. Dante Chosen Undead Bandana Dee Scorbunny Arle Crash Bandicoot Sora Shantae Alex Rayman
  24. I'm wary of rating any fighter request "overrated" as I feel that's kind of rude and dismissive, like saying "Well I don't think that character you want is worthy, and clearly my opinion matters more than yours." That's just being an arrogant, entitled, elitist snob. Obviously some fighters are more likely than others given popularity and significance, but if the fighter would be allowed by Nintendo, then I wouldn't call them overrated. By the same token, it's hard for me to judge whether a character is underrated. What makes a character underrated? Not getting the exposure and popularity they deserve? At the very least though, I can name some reasonable fighters based on my knowledge of popularity and fandom/industry significance: Crash Bandicoot. I mean c'mon, the guy was an unofficial mascot at one point. He was a rival to Mario and Sonic! And as much as I love having Banjo & Kazooie in there, Crash is without debate more notable and influential than them. Not to mention he's come back stronger than ever thanks to the triple threat of NST, CTRNF, and now Crash 4. Crash is enjoying the most success he's had since the 90s. The Bandicoot is back and bigger than ever; Nintendo and Activision would have to be certifiably N. Sane to leave him out of the Smash bash. Shantae. There was a time when her chances of getting into Smash were about as good as her chances of getting a sequel, but Shantae did indeed get sequels to the point her popularity has exploded within the past decade and Nintendo themselves have taken notice. Not to mention Shantae's a natural fit for Smash as her own games are sidescrollers where she pulls off fighting moves and uses various magic attacks. She'd bring a little Middle East-inspired flair to a game sorely lacking it, not to mention a kicking soundtrack. Oh, and Spirits don't deconfirm as Min Min demonstrated, so the door's wide open for the Half-Genie Hero now. X. He has a different weapon selection than Mega Man, and let's be honest, he's cooler than Mega Man. The MMX series is easily as popular as the Classic series, and like its predecessor, it has a rocking soundtrack, a few songs of which are already in the game. If X were added as DLC, they could include even more to go with his own Stage and a selection of new Spirits (the Spirit Board absolutely must look like a stage select, complete with music). X may not be as likely as Dante for Capcom's next rep, but I don't think he's an unreasonable choice, either. Min Min proves that getting a Spirit beforehand doesn't deconfirm, and Chrom's presence in Robin's Final Smash proves FS doesn't deconfirm either. A Soul Calibur rep. There's a number you could use: Sophitia, Mitsurugi, Xianghua, Siegfried/Nightmare. Talim and Seong Mi-na might be a little too sexy for Smash, and Ivy and Taki definitely are. But no denying that Soul Calibur is one of the foremost fighting game series, up there with Street Fighter, Fatal Fury, and Mortal Kombat. Link himself guest-starred in the GCN version of SCII. And hey, it's another Namco rep! Rayman. I mean, he is Ubisoft's mascot and all, and Origins and Legends featured a moveset that feels like it was tailor-made for Smash. Yeah, there are other Unisoft characters they could add like Sam Fisher, Jade, Ezio, or the Prince of Persia, but Rayman is the Ubisoft character. Lara Croft. Another 90s gaming icon, part of the PS1 pentagon along with Snake, Cloud, Crash, and Spyro. Also one of video gaming's most notable women, alongside Samus Aran and Chun-Li. Square Enix now owns her, so she'd be their third rep in SSBU. Ryu Hayabusa. Perhaps the most iconic video game ninja, again with a play style that feels perfect for Smash. The one snag to his being included is that KT and Capcom don't get along well due to their history of legal issues, and Capcom has their fingerprints all over the top of SSBU's boss doors, so KT might elect to keep their ninja boy out. I feel as though Spyro is on the border of reasonable as he's enjoyed some success as well thanks to the Reignited Trilogy and his guest appearance in CTRNF, but there's no denying that Crash comes first for Smash. I also want to put Krystal up there, but her chances are hindered by the fact she's already an Assist Trophy, though I disagree with the notion that an AT can't be promoted to Fighter status within the same game; they could always just disable the AT in battles where the fighter is played, like they do for certain stages. Same for Zero and Shadow the Hedgehog. How did they pass over Zero of all characters!? You know if they announced Zero as DLC, fans would lose their freaking minds. Zero is perfect for Smash, with moves that involve directional inputs. And he's unquestionably more popular than X himself. Shadow should have been included as an Echo Fighter of Sonic; given his popularity, I'm baffled he wasn't first in line after Ken for Echo status. Come SSB6, I hope Sonic can bring a lot more of his friends and foes along. Sora has the popularity, but Disney's involvement makes that a sticky issue. I swear Nintendo had a rule that characters in Smash have to originate from video games, and Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and Goofy most definitely don't qualify. There is a workaround; they could replace all Disney symbology (namely, Mickey Mouse heads) with neutral symbols like hearts or crowns, which would still give it that KH feel. But to edit out the Disney parts is kinda missing the point, I think.
