Create a Fighter and Moveset (Revival Thread 2)
Lord_Brand replied to vanguard333's topic in Super Smash Bros.
Goombella, Koops, and Admiral Bobbery would be my top suggestions, as they represent the three most consistent archetypes among Paper Mario partners. I'd suggest making Quick Change a shield special, so Paper Mario can use up to four specials with each partner. Implementing jumps as attacks could be tricky, but the hammer should be fairly easy.- 105 replies

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity announced (NSW, Releases 11.20.2020)
Lord_Brand replied to Jave's topic in General Gaming
Well I'm looking forward to this game one way or the other. The fact we get to play as the Champions and kick butt alongside them makes up for BotW squandering their potential. -
There are companies I refuse to support any longer because of groups they've chosen to endorse, but I will not discuss the matter in depth here. I've been ousted from one forum already for speaking my opinions amongst those who have already been indoctrinated and refuse to tolerate disagreement or criticism, so I would rather avoid repeating the drama and disillusioning myself with yet more people on this planet.

Tonight, I was talking to my mother about Don Bluth's animation projects, starting with Secret of Nimh and proceeding until I got to talking about Dragon's Lair and Space Ace (though I forgot about The Land Before Time and Thumbelina), when I got a crazy idea: What if Dirk the Daring and/or Space Ace joined the Smash roster? I mean, they did technically start as video game characters, they've been on Nintendo systems, and they are a part of video game history which Smash has been keen on paying homage to. We got Dragon Quest Heroes designed by Dragon Ball artist Akira Toriyama in Smash, so why not a character or two designed by Secret of Nimh artist Don Bluth? Of the two, Dirk is the more iconic with more games under his belt, so I'll assume for the sake of this theoretical scenario that he's the option Nintendo and Don Bluth go with (though Ace's Energizing mechanic would be a neat gimmick). Yes, Dirk would be another swordfighter, but this knight can pack a few novel tricks of his own, like magic spells and a flying mechanical horse. Dirk's stage would of course be Dragon's Lair. It would start at the drawbridge and proceed through the castle until we get to the treasure room where Daphne is held captive by Singe. Singe himself might even serve as a stage boss. Whoever defeats Singe gets a reward from Daphne. If nothing else, Dirk and Ace would make for neat Mii Swordfighter and Gunner costumes.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity announced (NSW, Releases 11.20.2020)

Except that you still get to see the original version. Then once we've gone through all the heartache and suffering, we can go back and change it. Personally, I think the initial route was less interesting anyway; when they first started showing more of BotW, I was stoked for an adventure where we'd get to meet allies (the Champions) and battle bosses with them before banding together to take on Ganon. Learning early in the actual game that they're all dead crushed my hopes, and from then on I had to go in with a grudging acceptance that we won't get the cool things I thought the trailer was promising us. So, maybe you're disappointed with the direction AoC's taking, but I was disappointed with the direction BotW took, and it looks like they're giving us an opportunity to fix things in AoC using methods that are perfectly justified within the series' continuity. I'm more excited for AoC now. -
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity announced (NSW, Releases 11.20.2020)

My bro pointed out that the scene near the end with Awakened Zelda leading the army of soldiers plus at least one Divine Beast suggests an alternate story playing out. Remember that in the original story, Zelda's power didn't awaken until the Divine Beasts were all corrupted by Ganon and the soldiers driven to the Akkala Citadel. -
@Spookilator Ah, I forgot Black Shadow for F-Zero! @SoulWeaver I figure if the Bowser Jr. argument could work for Eggman, it could work for Wily. Trouble for Wily is, he has far fewer boss fights under his belt, and so unless his capsule borrows a bunch of Special Weapons from his Robot Masters, he'll be mostly relegated to energy projectiles. Although, what if Wily himself wasn't the player character per se but rather a Pokemon Trainer-esque "commander" who deploys Robot Masters as his minions? He could use the Doc Robot from MM3, or a rotating team of Robot Masters (hmm, perhaps that's a worthy subject for a topic all its own...). The lists of villains are neat everyone, but I was talking more about which one villain would you add, given the chance? Like, if you could magically make the next DLC fighter the villain of your choice or add them, who would you pick as the villain you most want to add to the game?

This is the villains' installment of my "If you could add X to Smash, what would it be and why?" series of topics. EDIT: I've decided to loosen up the restrictions a little and change the title to something shorter and snappier. The basic rule is that the fighter has to be a villain from a video game series, but now the villain can be from a series that already has one in Smash if you like. Here is a list of my proposed candidates: Super Mario - King Boo Donkey Kong - Lord Frederik The Legend of Zelda - Ganon Metroid - Sylux Kirby - The Mage Sisters Yoshi - Kamek Star Fox - General Scales Pokemon - Gengar Earthbound - Porky F-Zero - Black Shadow Fire Emblem - Black Knight Kid Icarus - Medusa Wario - Captain Syrup Metal Gear - Big Boss Sonic the Hedgehog - Dr. Eggman Mega Man - Dr. Wily & Robot Masters Xenoblade - Malos Pac-Man - Ghosts Street Fighter - M. Bison Final Fantasy - Sephiroth Garland Castlevania - Dracula Dragon Quest - Mordegon Banjo-Kazooie - Gruntilda Fatal Fury - Geese Howard ARMS - Dr. Coyle As for which of these I'd choose first, probably Dr. Eggman. I mean, he is the archnemesis of Sonic the Hedgehog, former rival of the world's most famous video game character, and his many boss battles have given him a diverse array of moves to use with his Egg Mobile in a manner akin to Bowser Jr. and the Koopa Clown Car. Plus, they'd have an excuse to add E.G.G.M.A.N. to the SSBU soundtrack, and Eggman himself could have some choice voice clips ("Get a load of this!" and "Snooping as usual, I see!" as taunts, "I hate that hedgehoooog...!" when star KO'd by Sonic, etc.). They could even include Classic Eggman and Boom Eggman as costume options.

Probably should have waited until February for this one, but what the heck, it's on my mind now. If you could add a canon love interest for an existing fighter in Smash as a new fighter, who would it be and why? Take note the character in question has to be canonically a love interest, or at least a love interest candidate in the case of games where you have multiple options, and there has to be confirmed mutual interest between the two characters, not just a one-sided crush or ambiguous reciprocation (so Princess Ruto doesn't count, for example). For ease of reference, here's a list of fighters with established love interests who have yet to be added as fighters: Donkey Kong - Candy Kong Diddy Kong - Dixie Kong Fox McCloud - Krystal Marth - Caeda Lucina - Inigo, Brady, Gerome, Laurent, Yarne, Morgan Roy - Lilina, Cecilia Chrom - Sully, Sumia, Maribelle, Olivia Robin - See Robin's list of marriage options in Awakening Corrin - See Corrin's list of marriage options in Fates Shulk - Fiora Pac-Man - Ms. Pac-Man Cloud - Tifa Richter - Annette Terry - Blue Mary As for me, my choice would of course be Krystal, because I like the idea of another staff user, I like the idea of finally giving the Star Fox series a female rep, I'd like to add a stage and music from SFA, and dagnabbit, I'm furry for her. Of course, I wouldn't mind seeing most of these characters added at some point, particularly Caeda and Tifa.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity announced (NSW, Releases 11.20.2020)

I think AoC's story will play out a lot like DQ11, where you first go through the "disaster" route, then later on get to fix things via time travel. I don't think that will happen immediately upon AoC's release, I think it'll be tied to BotW2 via DLC. It'll be like "Hey, you know how AoC had a bittersweet ending six months ago? Well now's your chance to make things better!" So you'll get to experience your sad ending etc., and for fans who'd like to see a happier alternative, the DLC gives them that opportunity. It's hardly the first time the Zelda series has used time travel as a plot element, heck the original game was supposed to be a time travel story so it's long been part of the series' DNA, and AoC/BotW seems like a ripe opportunity to revisit the trope. But I expect we'll have to wait until BotW2 before we see any of that come to pass. -
Cancelled Video Games That You Really Wanted To Play
Lord_Brand replied to Randoman's topic in General Gaming
A prequel to Path of Radiance could have been possible. Not like Tellius wasn't at war well before Ike came along. Heck, maybe the game would have starred Ike's father Greil similar to how Blazing Blade starred Roy's father Eliwood and was a prequel to Binding Blade. -

I've proposed before that BotW2 could allow for a time travel-related "happy ending", based on the fact time travel has happened in the series before. (Heads-up: I get into some story stuff in the following spoiler.) So yeah, that's my idea of how an "After Calamity" DLC expansion could go down. I'm thinking the ending of BotW2 (or at least, a secret ending) leads into the DLC. AoC serves as the beginning of the whole arc while "After Calamity" serves as the end of it. Room is left open to a future sequel set in a more prosperous future, though they'll have to come up with a new antagonist. -

I could see Sidon, Yunobo, Riju, Tebah, and Kass all being playable in stages set 100 years later. I'm thinking a DLC expansion called "After Calamity" set between BotW and BotW2, that shows the New Champions and some other characters helping Link and Zelda battle Ganon's forces in the future while they try to rebuild Hyrule. Paya, Grante, and Kass could all join that adventure. -

The “would you rather have in Smash” game
Lord_Brand replied to Perkilator's topic in Super Smash Bros.
Animated shorts. Smash is, at its core, all about wacky crossover battles. Yeah, they give us Classic and Adventure Modes to provide us with more ambitious narratives, but I think individual shorts that focus on various battle scenarios would be the most fun to watch. It'd be like Looney Tunes, where you have two or more characters pitted against each other under various circumstances. That said, all three could honestly work, because they pretty much describe Versus, Classic, and Adventure in a nutshell. WYR have: A larger number of fighters with similar movesets (not strictly Echos, but like Luigi, Falco, etc.) A smaller number of fighters with multiple movesets (like a FLUDD moveset for Mario, a Longsword moveset for Link, etc.) -
