  1. The 25th anniversary for the entire Smash series is coming up in January 2024, and I want to see Nintendo do something special for it since Ultimate is not only the best-selling game in the series, but also the best-selling fighting game of all time. So what would you like to see for the 25th anniversary of Super Smash Bros.? You can list what you expect and what you hope to see separately. My expectations Smash 64 on the NSO N64 app A release date for the Sora amiibo (since we know for sure it’s coming in 2024) My wishes A port of Ultimate on the next console with additional content and balance changes and QoL changes HD ports of Melee and Brawl (preferably with better online support)
  2. As much as I adore SSBU’s Classic Mode, I’ll admire that every route being six fights and a boss kind of restricts is potential. So what if it was more like Street Fighter V’s arcade paths, where you go through a different number of fights depending on the path chosen? I made a while Google Doc about it but here’s an example: Jigglypuff: All Original, All 64
  3. Smash fans. Say what you will about certain aspects of the series but I will gladly defy the mob mentality out of spite for them.
  4. Nickelodeon All-Star 2 has a brand-new campaign mode that acts as a roguelike, so it made me think "what if World of Light was like this?" I made an entire Google Document fleshing out this idea but here's the TL;DR version: Gameplay: You travel along branching paths through dimensional rifts lifted straight from the Kirby series and each level has a fighter to save. The levels can either be swarms of enemies, action stages or target tests Spirits: Before you can travel to a level, you have to fight one of three random Spirits and beating them opens a rift in the spot the Spirit was at Bosses: The bosses are mostly the same as in canon, but I also added Mega Rayquaza and Magician Type-0 as bosses Endings: While you can choose your ending, to get the best ending you have to rescue every single fighter, which requires a minimum of five runs assuming you take a single path (for example, if you only went down the middle path) and follow it to the end Essentially, when I was turning WoL into a roguelike, my primary focus was making something akin to a mix of Melee's Adventure Mode and Smash 3DS's Classic Mode and Smash Run.
  5. I just thought of yet another bit of missed potential regarding Ganondorf; during the Phantom Ganon boss fight in Ocarina of Time, Phantom Ganon enters the paintings through a portal, and of course fights with a trident. If Ganondorf in Smash wasn’t a clone, I could easily see his down special being one where a portal of darkness moves along the ground when B is held, and letting go opens the portal and Phantom Ganon’s trident pops out of the ground.
  6. I was actually kind of surprised to see Mario Wonder getting nominated (though I am planning to get it for my birthday).
  7. You know what should've been Wario's down special instead of farting? The bomb that appears as the microgame timer. If anyone has ever played Darkstalkers or Marvel vs. Capcom 3, a character named Hsien-Ko has a move called Chukudan, where she tosses out a bomb with a set detonation time of 10 seconds, and it can be cartoonishly whacked around before hitting 0 and exploding. I feel like this kind of tool on Wario would drastically change his playstyle, but I love the thought of having a tool like that in Smash that not only applies some interesting stage pressure but also creates a minigame in itself mid-match, where you may find yourself whacking a bomb back and forth before the timer runs out, not unlike a WarioWare microgame where you have to act fast before the timer hits 0.
  8. Another one I just thought of was Little Mac; his counter should’ve been a perfect implementation of the Stars from the NES and Wii games. Every successful counter would earn you a Star, which would change your neutral special depending on how many you have
  9. In your opinion, what is wasted potential in Smash Bros. when it comes specifically to a character’s moveset? Not the general gameplay or other content, just a playable character’s moveset. The first thing that comes to my mind (that people haven’t said already) is Greninja’s Substitute. Greninja’s pretty fun otherwise but Substitute just being another counter is lazy. A more creative way they could’ve implemented Substitute into Greninja’s moveset is to have Greninja throw the Pokémon Doll onto the stage, then pressing down and B again would have Greninja appear where the doll is; think of it like Donatello’s Smoke Bomb is NASB 2.
  10. It was good! I went to see Spirited Away during a Studio Ghibli Fest at my local theater. The movie was played in Japanese.
  11. To celebrate Halloween, I'm going to focus on my "what-if" for Castlevania in Smash Ultimate. Alucard was considered as the Castlevania rep for Ultimate due to more people being familiar with him, but was ultimately made an Assist Trophy and both Simon and Richter Belmont were made playable in his stead. But what if it was Simon and Alucard who were the two Castlevania reps in Ultimate? My idea here was to give the best of both worlds: both the fighter who was heavily requested on the Fighter Ballot (Simon) and the fighter that Sakurai assumed more players would be familiar with (Alucard). I figured now was a good time, too; not only because it's the week of Halloween, and Cstlevania Nocturne was released on Netflix last September, about three days before the start of October. My interpretation of Alucard (which will be primarily based on a mod from earlier this year) will be the main focus of this topic, but I will throw in things like my changes to Simon and other Castlevania-related content for good measure. Just keep in mind that this will be a pretty lengthy topic, hence I will use spoiler tags frequently. Reveal trailer: The Vampire Killer Alucard's Playstyle & Fighter Abilitiy Alucards's alts & other animations Normal Moves Special Moves Post-Battle And now, for my interpretation of Simon...which honestly isn't that different from canon but stay with me. Other Castlevania content
  12. Let’s say Smash Ultimate got another year to cook and some of the DLC characters were in the base game…but then you got to choose brand new characters to fill the slot left behind. Which existing DLC characters would you move to the base game and which characters would you pick to fill the now-empty slots? For me: Base game DLC
  13. In the Marvel vs. Capcom series (namely MvC2 and every game after), you can call in one of the characters in your team to assist the character you're playing as. Some characters have assist-only attacks (for example, Jill in MvC2 has an assist where she heals you with a green herb), but the rest of the time the assists consist of an attack you can otherwise use when you're playing as that character. Ideally, if Smash had a similar system, it should be for an optional, 4-player-only mode called "Tag Team Mode" where you can press Shield + Attack to call in your partner for an assist. In addition, some moves would need to be reworked in order to work with the MvC assist style, or in some case, some characters would have to be given assist-only attacks. As for attacks for each character I could see as an assist:
  14. Kinda like the plane transformations in Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing Transformed.
  15. This was from a while back but a lost prototype was found for a racing game that was also a crossover between Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon. I guess that closest we got to this prototype being realized is the appearance of Spyro and other characters in Crash Nitro Kart for the GBA and Crash Team Racing: Nitro Fueled.
  16. Just…unabashedly a baby Metroid as a playable character. Not even the older stages, just the baby Metroid.
  17. Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid nWay -> Capcom I know Capcom is a pretty contentious topic when it comes to post-SF4-era fighting games, but I feel like if Marvel wasn’t going to be cooperative, then Capcom should’ve focused their efforts on a Power Rangers fighting game in terms of keeping the MvC-style gameplay alive.
  18. I've been playing NASB lately and watching spotlight videos for the upcoming sequel and it got me thinking...platform fighters like NASB may share the same core of Smash, but they still throw in their own little twist like heavy aerial attacks. In your opinion, what notes should the next Smash game take from other platform fighters in terms of changing up the gameplay?
  19. You know what? In hindsight, I think it would've been better to trade Smash Ultimate’s Stage Morph for the return of every stage in the Smash series*, including skins based off previous versions of Battlefield and Final Destination. *with the appropriate changes made to stages like Pac-Maze and Pyrosphere, of course.
  20. I've been getting into tokusatsu and it made mull over potential Super Sentai themes. So that's why I made this thread! If you're at all familiar with Super Sentai and/or Power Rangers, then this is the thread to let your ideas shine. As for mine: Earth Squadron Gaiaranger (地球戦隊ガイアレンジャー) Motifs: Seasons, elements Strategy Squadron Chessranger (戦略戦隊チェスレンジャー) Motifs: Chess, role-playing games The heroes are based on shogi (Japanese chess) and the villains are based on Western chess History Squadron Epoch Ranger (歴史戦隊エポックレンジャー) Motifs: Different periods of Japanese history Heaven Squadron Rock-Onger (天国戦隊ロックオンガー) Motifs: Angels, rock-and-roll The villains would be demons with classical music motifs
  21. Okay so I’m going to post a take 2 with a more relatively reasonable roster. But aside from fantasy choices, there’s gonna be a big change that I’m sure you’ll notice quickly. 64 Melee Brawl Sm4sh Ultimate (base game) Ultimate (Fighters Pass) Ultimate DX
  22. If custom moves returned in Ultimate, I wouldn't even bother trying to balance them, especially considering the workload just to bring them back at all. In which case, I'd gladly emphasize that they're not to be used competitively.
  23. The Sora amiibo was revealed on Thursday, which means Smash Ultimate is technically complete. To celebrate, I decided to revive yet another old thread where you post your fantasy Smash rosters, without restriction (well, aside from the obvious “video game characters only” rule). Without further ado, here’s mine (italics bold denotes unlockable characters, for those wondering): 64 Melee (*denotes newcomers henceforth) Brawl Smash 4 Ultimate (base game) Ultimate (* Fighters Pass)
