  1. True, but it's kind of weird how there's an similar sequence of events within 3 of the routes while 3 Hopes is significantly different from each other.
  2. How is this an anniversary game if FE1 came out in the middle of 1990? Cut & paste routes in 3H, the maps stays empty after an few rounds of combat. Suicidal AI, cut & paste loadouts (come on, what happened to giving some random dude an anti-cavalry lance?), and an little bit too much foreshadowing. And do we actually need an fucking warning for an route split? With Engage, I'm not sure if there will be several turns of uneventful marching towards the boss on account of smaller maps and nerfed movement range. As for the "tropes" that persists throughout the series; sure, they exist and I like an few of them. But there's only so many ways you can retell an joke before people start getting bored with it. Obviously, the twins are Cain and Abel...But they're monks! The armor knight is an callback to Kellam. We've got possessed corpses wandering around to admire the scenery. Of course, it all falls upon how these ideas are executed and it's too early for me to say that this game will be boring because it's reusing archetypes from Awakening
  3. It's kind of hard to be an mysterious masked knight in shining armor if everyone knows that's an royal bastard. Not yet, unfortunately.
  4. Well, the game already looks easy enough as it is; so there shouldn't really be an need for turtling, even with the decreased movement (although, this will probably. cap at 8, again ). Unless there's an enemy-exclusive counter against breaking or that they don't include reinforcement spawns, then it looks like the devs really don't care much about it being an strategy game
  5. Well, this essay just reminded me that 3H doesn't have those houses on the battlefield where people occasionally bitch about how miserable they are. Tbf, there's the people within the monastery; but all they complain about is how the war is making their lives miserable or how excited they are over what the Church recently did. It's weird how the game presents an political issue and doesn't really explains why it's such an big deal, outside of an few conversations that someone is likely to miss. At least SoV makes it clear that societal change needed to happen and how is it affecting the public...But this is an remake of an old game, so I guess that this barely holds any weight. At least Awakening went after why those Plegian criminals were exported PERFECTLY RANDOM AND FAMISHED BRIGANDS! were terrorizing Ylisse. As for the rest of the game, it's all an conspiracy theory by an cult of lunatics to revive the insane dragon god who wants to kill everyone. Hooray for doomsday cults! But there's also some exposition on why some Valmeses citizens (and characters) hate Walhart, so there's that. With Fates, it's hard to say. It's implied that Garon ran his country into the gutter because of an certain plot point that I hate; but we've got an few (hopeless) rebellions out of it, so that was fun. As with 3H and your essay, the base game does have some exposition where people are putting Crests over anything else; but it never really touches on "why" Edelgard has an absolute mindset of solving her problems with wholesale violence against the entire continent instead of, you know, declaring war on Team Slither with the help of some more people. The Alliance is hardly an threat to anyone, for one.
  6. Well, at least it's better than camping on an ordinary tile, lmao
  7. Basically, anything that's immediately within Warping distance, from my experience. Of course, you'll be losing out on an lot xp.
  8. I won't be surprised if Alear gains the ability to transform into an dragon (only in the cinematics), gets an rapier or some other elegant looking sword that glows red & blue, or becomes an Emblem for New Game+. Well, we still have an little bit more than two months before we can blame how terrible the advertising campaign currently is. I'm somewhat convinced that things will change after around the 10th or 12th playable soldier gets revealed because this is the deployment limit, of the early game screenshots are anything to go by. For instance They haven't really gave much of an preview on what you can do in the castle's plaza, for one. At least with 3H, they've really hyped up the monastery in Famitsu, IIRC.
  9. Well, nearly everything about this game just felt "weird" to me. It kind of feels like they're reusing an lot of Awakening's plotline and they aren't even trying to make it subtle. The character reveals aren't exactly promising in the sense that the opposition consists of: Thieves, possessed warriors, and an country that might be simping for the Fell Dragon. But with at least four nations on the map, chances are that this won't be as straightforward as I'm making it out to be.
  10. Well, there's always an chance that Famitsu would drop some content, next month; along with the game being mentioned in a Direct or something. And I doubt if they'll show us the entire cast, at the rate things are going.
  11. Hey, if Archeron was actually threatening, it would ruin the theme of that level.
  12. What about Count Gloucester's "STAY OFFA MY LAWN!" paralogue? I just settled with camping and running after the thieves, in that one.
  13. Well, there's probably an few more maps where saving the green units might actually be an thing if the map in Alfred's reveal is anything to go by. As for the defense maps, it almost feels like it'll be something that's kind of rare; or at the very least, something that'll begin pop up halfway through the game.
  14. I'm just assuming that it's an quirk of an early build in an attempt to speed up playtesting. It's kind of weird how some of them are ignoring the unit who literally have 1 hp left, but here we are.
  15. Well, I'm supposed to be taking my second (and hopefully final) shot in an few weeks. Hope you get well
  16. Well, so far, Vander and that other guy in the background are the only two axe-wielders that we've seen, so far. But Awakening more or less had an similar ratio and Birthright essentially abandoned clubs.
  17. I just assumed that those things are just miniature batteries of magical energy and the text inside them said, "Hold book open in left hand and pretend to read it outstretch your right arm towards that guy wearing an oversized suit of armor, recite spell name, channel the power of the gods from the book to your right palm, strike an smug pose."
  18. In an way, it kind of reminds me of those scrolls from Fates. Where each one has their own bonuses and effects while functionally being the same. My take on it is that each one is an completely different attack as opposed to just running up to someone and kicking them.
  19. At least it's not as absurd as seeing Charlotte fighting in an bikini
  20. As much as I loved Conquest, this is one of those things that made me wonder if the writers were running out of ideas for it. The last third of the game essentially came off as filler since all you're really doing is waiting for Garon to take his place on that throne.
  21. You know that you're being bullshitted, right? While the ability to understand algebra is important; it's not the only thing that breaks the game, considering how the combat forecast warns you of the odds of hitting someone and the amount of damage is being traded. Positioning is arguably more important because there are times where you need to hold off an enemy squad charging at you (or as much of an full-scale attack that the game then render) or trying to pull an few enemies out of the forest (yes, nonstandard terrain usually lowers your chances of landing an hit). Oh, and there's also the relationship between archers and flying units. That stuff is fun to deal with. But ultimately, knowing how the various equations work in relation to your team's stats mainly leads to dividing your army into 2-4 teams; but it doesn't really free you from actually picking where and how you'll fight. Of course, like the others said; the game runs and displays the calculation for you. But this also means that you'll usually be within range of the enemy and you'd better have an "Plan B."
  22. Nah, that's normal for the web. The writing in this game isn't exactly great; but it's kind of hard to ignore how Dorothea went from being an bit of an gold digger to regularly complaining about the war.
