  1. Planning on doing a run of the Lagdou Ruins for the first time. Made one attempt so far and got to the fourth floor before Knoll got attacked when I had accidentally left Gleipnir attached to him (honestly it's so heavy, I should probably just toss it, but I like to have the legendary wepaons on hand out of stubborness, that's also why I made Moulder a sage even though bishops are superior). That run was doomed anyway as I realised I'm woefully under prepared weaponwise. How many weapons do you need to bring? I'm probably going to buy a couple dozen steel weapons as they seem to be the best value given I don't have too much trouble taking the enemies down. At least on the lower floors. Some are HP tanks but most can't even hit my units. Any other adivce in general would be appreciated. Already did the enemy control glitch to give all my magic users dark magic (for what it's worth) and repaired Myrrh's dragon stone. EDIT: Also, since this is my first time really trying Creature Campagin, I'd like to know if any of the extra units are worth using or are they just there for the sake of novelty?
  2. There's logic in that. Of course it also runs the risk of giving said lackey two territories to control if he ever tries to waltz back into his accepting home land ala Hitler into Austria. Hard to say how much love Raydrik would have gotten from the common people of Connaucht though, given that he did murder their king, yet he also protected them from the worst of the invasion. Leinster's Fall does say he'd been consolidating power among the nobility for a while though.

Gharnef says that he's the only one protecting Tiki from Medeus when he tops up her brain washing, so I think it's outright confirmed that Medeus doesn't know Gharnef has her stashed away in there (or if he does, he doesn't want her there), so labelling those troops Dohlr probably is an oversight of some sort. As far as Marth's success goes, his taking of Archanea early is probably what really cinched it for him. He actually struggles and is forced to retreat not long after gaining Orleans, that's what the little trip to Pyrathi was. So if we apply a little headcanon, I think we can argue that he acually evaded the bulk of his enemies forces to recapture Arkanea. From there, it was probably more of a case of each of the world powers expecting someone else to deal with him while he slowly conquered them one by one. Of course that does pose the question as to why Archanea didn't get reconquered by Medeus during the second half of the game. Unless Grust, Macedonia and Dohlr did make a concentrated effort to retake it but Archanea wasn't as weakened as one would expect from the occupation, and that's why Marth was able to assault them on home territory so easily.
  4. He also murdered the King of Connaucht and left a vacancy open there. It would make more sense to put him in charge of the area he presumably came from, rather than relocating him to a different area (and one that would have more reason to hate him as he destroyed Leinster's reinforcements of Munster, while Connaucht itself got by releatively fine in the war by collaborating with Thracia and later Friege). And it's less that it's super unrealistic for one guy to be put in charge of a neihbouring country (if I was to rationlize it, I'd say Bloom moved him there as he was a capable leader and Munster was at the most risk from an attack by Thracia...except wait, Raydrik already collaborated with Thracia in the past, so positioning him there makes even less sense), and more that he easily could have just been from Munster from the start and there would be no oddities that he's in charge of it.

  6. Ah. Gotcha. In that case, yes, I do think it was an addition in the remake. I can't recall any reference to any other characters being noble in the original game. Except the Baron class of course, but I doubt one can take that as evidence given how inaccurate Fire Emblem is with class names (and any old Soldier can become a Baron).
  7. Haha. I'm just as stupid as Dunban for not realising the Mumkhar twist. I had the whole Faces are Humans thing called from the moment Xord appeared, but for some reason I just didn't connect the dots that the robot with the claw weapons was the same person. Really enhanced the viewing experience that way as I had the exact same look of realisation on my face as Dunban.
  8. Is there any evidence to suggest the original Robin was an unwilling host? I always took it that he was conflicted but ultimately decided to betray Chrom. Grim even says the only thing that differenciates the two were their choices (remember, due to the mind wipe, Future!Grima and Present!Grima are very different people).

  10. Oh wow, you only fight Gra once? I suppose I knew that on retrospect, still, it's kind of surprising. Really glad they gave Jiol a cameo in the prologue now.
  11. This is Chapter 8 of Genealogy of the Holy War, it covers most of Munster's main territories. In Genealogy of the Holy War, Leif is automatically deployed in Leinster, the castle on the top left. The first objective of the map is to seize Connaught, the castle in the top right. A few waves of powerful enemies come at your during the opening chapters that you need to endure, Thracia 776 ignore that part for some reason. Even though it's you recruit Faval and have your first encounter with Ishtar, both of which are rather significant (in Thracia, you fight Ishtar's hunky bodyguard instead, twenty years later fans of Heroes rejoiced about this). Anyway, as you can see, the flow of battle leads to Connaucht. Here Leif faces Bloom, the man who's been oppressing his country. They have battle convos and it's pretty epic. Thracia also ignores this. It still happens, just off screen and by Seliph instead of Leif. Instead, Leif decides to go and liberate Munster, the castle on the middle right, whoose latitude is about the same as Seliph's starting position. So for this to work, Seliph and Leif's armies need to criss cross, with Seliph travelling north east and Leif travelling south east. This is pretty illogical. Now the theory goes, that the reason they did this was because Leif has a bit of an arc where he has to accept that Seliph is a bigger man than him and that he's just a minor side character supporting the actual important people (or if you're feeling nicer, it's about valuing the achievements you do make and not measuring yourself against others). So he doesn't get to fight the big important bad guy (who only gets one freaking line in Thracia, incidentally), instead fighting these lesser villains that he has more personal reasons to hate. I propose an alternate theory! And that is they just really liked Ced and wanted him in the game. I come to this conclusion because Leif's liberation of Munster makes even less sense than it initally seems, even if you ignore all the Holy War descrepencies. The game starts when Raydrik travels to Fianna to capture Leif. Fianna's one of those villages on the right, by the coast. The first problem, is that Raydrik brings Leif to Munster. Why is this a problem? Because Raydrik is from Connaught. He has this whole history where he betrayed the king of Connaught to Thracia, someone wrote a (nonfanfiction) story about it. So if he's from Connaught, why is he running things in Munster? Remember, the whole Munster District (not the same as Munster Castle, confusingly enough) is really four seperate countries with an alliance. They have their own royal families and stuff. The closests real world equivalent would be like the EU or something. So it's particularly strange for Raydrick to be in charge of a completely seperate country to the one he hails from. It would be like French guy who collaborated with the Nazis being put in charge of Norway. Okay, maybe something like that has happened in history, I'm sure some history buff will cite an example. Or maybe Connaught just as really bad weather like it's real life counter part and Raydrik wanted to rule Munster because he's a hurling fan. Promblem Number 2 (or 3 if you want to count Genealogy of the Holy War continunity errors). Ced defending Munster. In Genealogy of the Holy War, after you beat Bloom, you're next mission is to sieze Munster as those darn Thracians are getting all full of themselves. This one's a little different though, as your real goal is the south eastern most castle. Munster Castle has Ced (or Hawk if you suck at ugenics) defending it already. Leif's sister shows up briefly and it's all very fun to play. This, and the first siege of Leinster are pretty much the only things Thracia 776 tried to stay loyal to. And all things considered, they did a really good job. They even gave you the same minor throw away boss to fight (Coruta, who hilariously gets redesigned from Most Generic Shared Portrait Guy A, to Most Generic Shared Portrait Guy B. I almost hope for a remake purely to see what he actually looks like). This is all well and good in Genealogy of the Holy War where they say Ced has just sucessfully launched a revolt to gain Munster, but it makes no bloody sense in Thracia 776, despite how arousing the continuity porn is. There's three more chapters after this battle in Thracia 776. Three more battles where you take control of Munster. So what was Ced even doing defending the castle from Thracians? He didn't control that castle. He just stood up on the ramparts and made things more difficult by fighting two enemies at once when he could have done much better to just sit back and let Raydrik and the Thracians fight it out and then just take the castle from the winner (maybe Coruta could have experienced the agonizing bullshit of Chapter 24x instead then), or better yet, get all the civilians out, which is something he even does in Holy War. So it seems like they twisted the entire story just to have Ced show up with Holsety and blast Thracians. Even though this A)Interferred with the continuity of it's predescessor B)Interferred with it's own lore established purely for this game and C)Interferred it's own plot by putting Ced in a logical quagmire, just to recreate a moment from Genealogy of the Holy War. Raydrik didn't have to be a Connaught traitor, he could have been from Munster. That wouldn't have been a hard change. But I think Connaught originally was meant to be where the climax of the game took place, when the Leinster's Fall short story was written. They're the villains of the story and Munster is the place Leinster is trying to aid. But then someone probably thought it not fitting to finish the game when part of the Munster District is still under threat and we'd miss out on this moment with Ced (and Altenna wouldn't even get to appear in the game at all!), so they made Munster itself the climax and just sort of mushed everything else to fit that idea. It might even explain why Saias ends up as such a non character that gets overwritten by Ced. Perhaps, originally, there was no plan for Ced and Saias would have played a larger role in the Connaught Climax, but then then they didn't have room for him when they moved the plot to Munster and included Ced. Now...I'm not particularly upset or disapointed that they did this (do wish you got to fight Ishtar and recruit Faval though), because man did they do a good job in making Chapter 23 of Thracia match up with Genalogy (they even have those villages near Munster adapted, that's your starting point in Thracia!). And earlier in the game it led to a nice Hannibal cameo. But, well, I just thought I'd point it all out. You know, because I find writing long pointless things that require me scouring scripts as a fun activity for a Saturday night.

  14. Aww. I responded to this like two hours ago but Serenes ate my post. Anyway yeah, I can fully understand why one would want to move Roy's promotion time (or just make it Master Seal based like Chrom and Corrin). But I personally like it where it is as it feels very appropriate for the significant moment the game is trying to portray. My only gripe is that the moment is just as easily placed before getting Apocyalpse as afterwards, as Roy and co are still in the same place. It would also feel more triumphant getting it after Chapter 21, which, much like Ike's multi part Serenes Forest battle, Chapter 21 is one of the biggest battles in the game in terms of scale. Psst.   16. Duma is a Divine Dragon, though from the look of him, some kind of twisted and corrupt Divine Dragon. Tiki's true powers are nerfed significangtly in Awakening for the sake of her own sanity. She has to unseal a portion of them just to be a playable unit. Gotoh says Tiki has the potential to destroy the world with her power, so I'm guessing her true power is on Grima levels and she only unseals a very, very small portion of it in Awakening.
  17. I've long thought that in a game full of wasted potential, Walhart not wielding Alm's Falchion was the biggest missed oppertunity. It would be really easy to implement, it just means making another weapon, and it would be really frigging cool. It would be a solid reference to Gaiden that works, unlike most of the other ones they attempted, and it would really drive home the theme they're going for between Chrom and Walhart.
  18. That could make for a good DLC episode for a Genalogy of Holy War remake. But I was more thinking along the lines that they say uprisings are happening there during the course of the actual game, inspired by Seliph and Leif's actions.
  19. Alright, my serioues wants. *Roy's late promotion is kind of a meme. But it actually deosn't bother me too much, because the Sword of Seals makes him feel awesome after he finally does promote. So regarding that, I'd only change it so the promotion comes at the end of Chapter 21, as opposed to Chapter 21x. It's a small difference, but the extra map of promoted Roy it would give would make a huge difference. *I don't really want to see any massive changes to gameplay, but I could do with some Skills. Namely Armsthrift would be really useful in this game as it comes with so many Low Durability powerful Weapons. Some of the standard skills like Vantage and Sol would be welcome too. I definitely don't want a Echoes Binding Blade to be Skill Emblem as a lot of the modern games are, so just skills on the level of Thracia 776, where most characters have one or to at base and you can occasoinally find a skill scroll (also Paragon Sophia please, and maybe some cool unique Proc Skill for Roy). *Let Thieves promote to Rogues and give Knights the same base move as infantry (but no extra move upon promotion). *Con growths. *I love Branching Classess, but I think I'd like to turn down the idea for this particular game to stop othe series being oversaturated with the idea. I do like Reclassing though, so I'd ask for that. I like the way it gives more flavor to each unit by giving them an option for a class the character could conceivably be but just happen not to be (Berserkerk Lillina!). *On that subject, make Lucius a monk by default. As light magic being regulated to Second Tier kind of nerfs it a lot. *I'd make support grinding easier. Because I found myself barely ever getting supports in the GBA games. I think Path of Radiance with it's number of maps based support system is probably the best, as you can develop supports witout compromising your strategy for a map. *People have said a Mia's Turnwheel and I'm inclined to agree. It would even help with getting those Gaiden levels as if you just missed the turn count, you could rewind time and try to be more efficent on those last few turns. *Have Eckesachs be useable by the player after they defeat Zephiel. It doesn't really make much sence that that weapon is a prf when every other Legendary Weapon except the Binding Blade is useable for everyone. *Guinevere, unlike Nyna, has decent stats for trial maps, so canonically she can fight. It'd be a really nice surprise for veteran players if she got off her ass and joined the army at some point in the game (yes, I know Nyna is playable in BS and Mystery, but her stats are so low it makes sense that she's noto a fighter). *As far as new characters go, I think having Eliwood join in the last few chapters would be pretty cool. I know he's sick, but he kind of just vanishes from the plot altogether even though he's still alive. And canonically he was doing stuff when Roy was at the western isles. I wouldn't even care if his stats suck, it'd just be cool to have him as an option to field. *A new character that is Lyn's son or daughter, canonizing Lyn's official pairing as nobody from the prequel. Best way of addressing Lyn without messing with ay preestablished character backgrounds. *Give a battle convo between Roy and Zephiel. Because the main villain and main hero should really interact. *Make Yahn the acgtual final boss, with a massive stat total to match the effective weapons you have against him. Go the full mile with a unique model that looks more impressive than the War Dragons and several skills to back it up. Idoun can still remain as a weak final challenge as that's narratively fitting for her. But if Yahn is suped up, then the player won't at least feel like they were cheated out of a final battle.
  20. Give me a Hector Hard mode. When it gets to the point in the story where Hector dies, he instead miraculously lives and replaces Roy as the main lord. The story inexplicably continues in an near identical way, only with Hector replacing Roy in almost every scene and some how coming to the same conclusions using wildly different logic. Roy would still be present, just as a more minor character. The legendary Axe of Seals is optional.
  21. Another thing that would never happen (unless they rerelease Jugrdral and it becomes mega popular), Verdane and Agustria 776. Verdane and Agustria are the territories you primarily explore in the first generation of Genealogy of Holy War and we hear almost nothing about what goes down there during the second gen as every major character in the world inexplicably ends up on the east coast no matter how much sense it makes. So anything set there about their own rebellions would almost entirely feature new characters (surely Chagall had a son we never hear about) and plot lines making it less of a sequel and more of a continuity porn original story. Still, I think it could be really cool.

  23. Question is, should it get Distant Counter, or a Dragon Slaying effect? Or hey, if they want to ignore the most distinctive traits again, they could give him Renewal. You cn use the Binding Blade to restore health in came, though I can't imagine why anyone would as it only has 25 uses and you're probably better of killing whatever's trying to attack Roy.

I actually haven't trained a Roy in heroes (and that fact almost entirely has something to do with how non distinctive the Sword of Seals is, plus an over abundance of sword units), but it looks to me like a forged Silver Sword+ would be outright better than the Binding Blade until it gets a refinement of it's own. You can forge a Silver Sword to have 16 might and HP+5 and Def+4 stat boost. Compared to the Binding Blade, all you're losing is the +2 Res (or +2 Def if you want to make a Res forge), and what's more, the Silver Sword stat boosts apply on player phase and can actually be stacked with combat boosts as they boost the base stats (so fas as I understand things). One of the most OP weapons in the series is genuinely worse than the most basic, generic strong weapon in the series. If they wanted to reflect the originanl game, they should have made the Sword of Seals really powerful, but gave Roy crappy stats to compensate.
