  1. But, but... Self-inserts are terrible, though. Dreadfully boring, at least.Well, mostly I'm just a little frustrated that people assume that custom character = you're supposed to make yourself. I personally find it much more fun to just make my own character to insert into the game world, because if it were supposed to actually be me that'd feel incredibly awkward. To me. /nitpick Maybe this is will be seen as tacky by others, but it's my opinion that being too old for a particular interest just isn't a thing that actually happens. If you're interested in something, you're interested in it until you yourself cease having interest, not until society tells you to stop liking it. Of course, the inverse is also true, in that there's no need to just bend to what society tells you to like, either.Basically, if you like something, continue to enjoy it and more power to you! There's no reason to stop enjoying something just because the number of times Earth has made a complete round trip 'round the sun since you exited your mother's womb exceeds a certain amount. That's not to say you won't occasionally get judged for it, depending on what it is that you like, because you will, but my point is not to let others' opinions ruin things for you. Of course, there are some "interests" that are just plain bad and shouldn't be held by anyone, but... My point stands, I guess. By the way, I'm currently 18. I doubt I'll ever stop playing games, and if I do it will be to free up time to make them, since video game designer is my dream career. I am also hopelessly optimistic most of the time, so I apologize for being extremely cheesy about this whole thing.
  2. Just about everyone from Shadow Dragon, in their own little short stories focused on them that don't downplay their personalities. Sort of like, imagine a BSFE/FE12 bonus maps sorta deal, but a huge compilation of various 1~4 chapter short stories about little batches of the various characters. I think that would make a really neat side game, and we get to see some unexpected characters in leading roles. Like, how about a quest starring Caesar and Radd? What do those two even do, anyway, besides joining up with Marth at various points, depending on the game? Would be neat to find out, I think. Maybe something showcasing the scenerio than lead up to the capture of Kieran, Brom and Nephenee, or perhaps Meg's adventures leading up to her joining with Micaiah's team? Basically, any less known/cared about characters would be neat to see more of, especially in a sort of "what did they do when not in the party" setting.
  3. As would I... Anyway, always autoend, never autocursor. Autoend is just a convenience; there is really no reason to keep your turn going past when no more units can be moved; even if it's to see if you've gotten yourself into trouble, it's not as though disabling autoend really adds to what you can do about it at that point. As for autocursor, it's just annoying. It's far preferable for me to have the cursor stay where it last was rather than resetting to a preestablished point. Besides, my Lord isn't usually my main force in themself, so it's helpful for the cursor to start where it's needed. In general, it's just less annoying with autocursor off.
  4. I like them both pretty much equally, I guess. They each have their charms and flaws, and admittedly many designs from Awakening are more than a little fanservicey, but that's not to say the art direction itself is bad. It's just different, I think. Maybe this comparison isn't really all that fair in my head, because I wasn't really a huge fan of FE9/10's art styles (I don't like a lot of the faces) but compared to older Fire Emblem art as a whole, I'd say I probably prefer the style of the official art for Sacred Stones to Awakening, but not by a huge amount. In fact, I think with Awakening's characters it may not even be the art style, but the designs themselves I don't like as much. It seems like there's a much greater tendency towards ordinary hair and outfit colors in this game, which I actually don't like much, because for me part of the fun of the graphical aspects of Fire Emblem was getting to see all sorts of bright and colorful characters join your team and fight together. In Awakening the hair colors, and expecially outfit colors, are much plainer and less vibrant, which I find a little disappointing. Of course, Avatar and, by extension, the child characters, can have whatever hair colors you like. Maybe I am totally missing the OP's point, but that's my two cents.
  5. Huzzah~ Happy couples make me happy, too. Enjoy your couplehood!
  6. Can you get the effects of Sol and a Nosferatu tome to stack? Like, would it be possible to attack and recover 150% of your damage output, if Sol activated? Also, how much does it cost to recruit the weaker SpotPass characters? Like, the unpromoted or low-level promoted ones?

  8. Okay I'm sorry but... What. You're seriously considering not buying the game just because a single spell that nothing is making you use can be used to make the game ridiculously easy with a little effort? That's a bit of an extreme reaction, don't you think? Like the mine glitch in 7, or Seth in Sacred Stones, if you want to preserve the intended difficulty level, just don't use it. It's that simple. There is no reason to deny yourself a great game just because the developers did not fully think through the potential usage of a particular weapon. For some reason you seem to be acting like it would be harder to not Nosferatank than it would be to do so... I think you'd kinda have to go at least a little out of your way to set up something like that.
  9. Personally, I think they might go for an all-new setting, although I can never be sure; I'd certainly like for them to do so, because just as sequels/prequels offer pleasure in being able to recognize elements from their fellows within their own continuties, new settings bring with them the excitement of fresh characters, settings and lore. Another remake doesn't seem all that likely, since they just made two, and since Awakening makes three in a row for the Archanean continuity, a new setting would be nice. Of course, considering how fond the Japanese fanbase (and developers, for that matter) seem to be of the Archanean continuity- there have been six (eight if you're counting the recent merge of Tellius into Archanea's universe) games set in that continuity so far; just over half the current series if remakes aren't counted as separate from the originals- I wouldn't say it's all that unlikely that they're getting ready to go back to the original world full-force. ...Although, of course, there's a strong possibility of that being what they just did and them being done Archanea for now. That said, I definitely hope for an entirely new continuity to begin; I think it would be exciting to get to see all new characters and a fresh setting. It would give IS a lot more creative freedom, because they wouldn't need to stick to preestablished characters, locations or lore, and hopefully it would lead to quite an interesting Fire Emblem game; one that deviates from the traditional installments while still being distinctly Fire Emblem. I know I would play it, definitely.
  10. Hey, welcome! Glad you found Shadow Dragon to your liking; it's kind of a fitting introduction to the series, too, being a remake of the NES original and all. It's neat that you like other Nintendo stuff, too. And yeah, if you're looking to try more Fire Emblem games, I'd check places like Amazon and eBay, since GBA/GameCube games are very unlikely to be sold in retail stores at this point; the only one you might find (that isn't Shadow Dragon, which you already have) at a retail store is Radiant Dawn, which is for the Wii and is a bit less "obsolete" than Path of Radiance. And, on the offchance that you have a 3DS with the Ambassador Program, you can download Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones for free. So, yeah! I am pleased to welcome you and I hope you are able to get along well here!
  11. Ah, thanks for replying. (And also thanks to Inspector Clouseau for same) I've actually gone ahead and promoted Merric, Ogma, Rody and Raiden, before reclassing the latter into a Sniper, instantly rendering Jeorge obsolete in every area but Bow rank. As for Norne and Cord, they are having a bit of trouble catching up, but I had been gambling on the possibility of them turning out to be really worthwhile in the end, although, they are a bit redundant in light of Raiden, Merric, Etzel and Malicia, so perhaps it would be better to bench them to devote their share of EXP to others. I had actually never considered reclassing CamusSirius, but thinking about it, it would be helpful, considering it wouldn't be nearly as hard to recruit Nyna if he was actually levelled up alongside everyone else. Again, though, thanks for the help!
  12. This can apply to RPGs too, whee! Um, after only ever playing as Luke in Tales of the Abyss, I was able to make myself fairly competent as Natalia in order to defeat the second phase of the Sword Dancer quest. (It really helps to have the one dying of melee strikes repeatedly not be the one you're controlling) I should try having her as my main for this New Game+ I'm doing now. I guess you could say Archers in general in Fire Emblem, because in my experience Snipers are totally worth it. Perhaps my ultimate Fire Emblem example, though, was during a sidequest run of Shadow Dragon, when I recieved my first batch of generics in Chapter 4, and of the 6~8 or so, exactly one was female, (Quatro) a Myrmidon. After doing some calculations, I found that I had just enough room to include her if I utilized the Aum staff to ressurect a deliberately-sacrificed teammate. I put way more effort into this one generic unit than any other team member, dedicating almost every stat-booster to her (to compensate for nonexistant growths) and using her as my staffbot for arena abuse, so she could gain levels safely. By the end of the game, she was an awesome Swordmaster with capped HP and high stats in many areas, save obviously for Luck. She was actually pretty darn awesome.
  13. Well, I think a potential third needs to fit with the theme, otherwise it'd just look weird and out-of-place next to X and Y. Perhaps the third could be Pokemon W? Or a different, totally random letter of the alphabet. Of course, they could always follow after Gen V and have sequels instead of a third... Indeed, and now we have at least one mammalian representative of each type, to go with the "at least one egg-layer" achieved waaaaay back in Gen I. ...That is to say, all Pokemon lay eggs except Mew. We now have at least one starter Pokemon based on a mammalian creature for each type.
  14. Is there a Dark gym yet But seriously, this looks awesome. Finally, a main series Pokemon game with 3D models for both characters and locations. (Not that I have a problem with sprites, mind you) It does occur to me, though, that the male hero's color palette is recycled from Hilbert and Nate, which is a little disappointing but irrelevent in the grand scheme of things. Also, god dang, those starters are adorable. Especially the Fire starter, which looks to finally be not Fire/Fighting, breaking off GameFreak's ongoing combo assault at 3 consecutive hits. The Grass starter is lookin' kinda neat, although I'd really like to see the direction in which its evolution takes it before making assumptions. The Water starter being a frog is unexpected (by me, at least) but nice; it's a creature that is easily associated with its element, and its coloration goes well with its shape. As for the legendaries, I like them both; they're majestic an elegant, making them, in that sense, my ideal legendaries. Based on the creatures' shapes, X will get the stagthing and Y will get the birdragonthing. Unless they pull a Black/White and give us the one whose color matches the other version, but that's unlikely because the Yin/Yang imagery isn't present in the new naming theme. Speaking of the naming scheme, it's... odd. I don't hate it, but I can't really say I'm completely in favor of it, either. The logos are cool enough, though, and the fact that the titles and a few of the gameplay clips indicate a more sci-fi slant to the storyline is fine by me. If X and Y make a boy then what happens come the inevitable addition of Z?
  15. Heh, it's fine; it's not as though I have anything against the Japanese names/spellings, I just thought it would be a bit easier and less confusing for those unfamiliar with the Japanese release to use the NoA names. And I totally understand not wanting to go and change it now. Besides, it is really quite nifty as it is, anyway. The names thing is just a nitpick.
  16. This is pretty cool; Henry's cheerful "Diiiiieeeee~" amused me. One thing, though, is that you might want to alter the subtitles to use NoA's names (Chrom and Lissa, can't remember if there are any other JPN names used over NoA ones) if this is meant to be a trailer for the Western release. Other than that, it's great, I think.
  17. I've already preordered the cartridge, so my fate is sealed, but I've no regrets. Others have already voiced the same feelings I have about preferring a material possession for spent money, but even more than that, my preorder nets me a neat art book so I can flip through the book and look at pretty pictures of the game's large cast when I'm not playing the game. (Or, considering FE's gameplay, even when I am playing the game.) Of course, there's also the fact that a download of a retail 3DS game would take not only gobs of time but gobs of memory as well, and I don't have the time/system memory for that, considering I want to get the DLC and some other downloadable titles in the future.
  18. Okay, so, with the tantalizing possibility of removed reclass limit providing the perfect excuse to play through this great entry in the Fire Emblem series once more, with increased difficulty no less, I elected to begin a quest through Hard mode of Fire Emblem 12. As I do in my Normal playthroughs, I plan to recruit everyone, save every village and finish with everyone alive. Currently I've made it to Chapter 13, and promotion has begun to become a concern. My team is as follows: [spoiler=My team at Chapter 13] The spirally top three! (a failed organization attempt I'm too lazy to correct) Marth (of course) Newman (Avatar) Rody LV: 14 Lord (duh) LV: 11 Hero LV: 17 Cavalier HP: 34 HP: 54 HP: 32 Str: 13 Str: 23 Str: 14 Mag: 0 Mag: 5 Mag: 0 Skill: 16 Skill: 30 Skill: 14 Spd: 14 Spd: 26 Spd: 19 Luck: 14 Luck: 25 Luck: 18 Def: 11 Def: 19 Def: 15 Res: 0 Res: 3 Res: 0 Swords: C Swords: D Swords: D Axes: A Lances: C (almost B) Decidedly less spirally teammates: Ogma LV: 15 Mercenary Str: 12 Mag: 0 Skill: 17 Spd: 17 Luck: 8 Def: 9 Res: 0 Swords: C (almost B) Etzel LV: 8 Sorceror HP: 31 Str: 2 Mag: 13 Skill: 16 Spd: 15 Luck: 9 Def: 11 Res: 13 Magic: B Staves: D Navarre LV: 13 Myrmidon HP: 27 Str: 11 Mag: 0 Skill: 19 Spd: 18 Luck: 11 Def: 10 Res: 1 Swords: C Norne LV: 14 Archer HP: 26 Str: 10 Mag: 0 Skill: 9 Spd: 16 Luck: 10 Def: 10 Res: 0 Bows: B Malicia LV: 1 Sage HP: 34 Str: 3 Mag: 12 Skill: 7 Spd: 20 Luck: 20 Def: 4 Res: 13 Magic: B Staves: A Merric LV: 17 Mage HP: 29 Str: 0 Mag: 9 Skill: 11 Spd: 14 Luck: 11 Def: 10 Res: 6 Magic: C Cecille LV: 13 Cavalier HP: 32 Str: 11 Mag: 1 Skill: 16 Spd: 16 Luck: 14 Def: 11 Res: 1 Swords: C Lances: E Roger LV: 12 Knight HP: 27 Str: 14 Mag: 0 Skill: 10 Spd: 11 Luck: 11 Def: 16 Res: 0 Lances: C Cord LV: 12 Dark Mage (+Maturity Drop) HP: 28 Str: 2 Mag: 8 Skill: 9 Spd: 13 Luck: 10 Def: 7 Res: 7 Magic: D (almost C) Feena LV: 5 Dancer HP: 17 Str: 4 Mag: 0 Skill: 6 Spd: 17 Luck: 12 Def: 5 Res: 0 Swords: D Palla LV: 1 Dracoknight HP: 33 Str: 19 Mag: 1 Skill: 19 Spd: 19 Luck: 13 Def: 17 Res: 3 Lances: A Axes: E Jeorge (tentative) LV: 5 Sniper HP: 32 Str: 12 Mag: 1 Skill: 14 Spd: 14 Luck: 5 Def: 13 Res: 3 Bows: A I'm thinking about benching Jeorge and maybe replacing him with someone else since his stats are so subpar to everyone else's considering his promotion tier and level. (Everyone else is around his competency or better at lower levels/promotion tiers) Raiden (redhead Sable Order Cavalier) is a consideration [for a replacement], and maybe Tiki. Speaking of her, where does Xane stand in terms of Hard mode usefulness? Anyone a bit later on I should hold out for? Perhaps someone from earlier I should attempt to rescue from the bench as a replacement? Should I just have faith in Jeorge and forge onward with him, or abandon him altogether with no replacement? Basically, Jeorge is lookin' kinda crappy, what should I do about this? Anyway, there's another thing that's been nagging me for a few chapters; I'm reaching the point in the game where promotion starts to become a factor, and I'm weighing my options as far as that goes. All the units I have promoted thus far have been from Level 20, but the increased difficulty is rearing its ugly head more than ever and, since I think it's unlikely for me to be able to get everyone on my team to level 20, I've been strongly considering promoting early, since the stunted growth is unlikely to come into play as it only becomes an issue if those characters reach level 20 in their promoted classes. I've set 15 as my absolute minimum level for promoting units, ideally higher, but the maximum distance, level-wise, from 15 in my party is 3 levels (lowest level is 12), which means it won't be too difficult to get everyone up to promotable levels to put on their Master Seals and power up. Currently, I have 5 Master Seals and an Elysian Whip, the latter is currently intended for use on Cecille to net me a handy Falcoknight. Who should I give priority as far as promotion goes, and at what level would it be advisable to do so? Another thing that's crossed my mind is reclassing. I've made Cord a Dark Mage and I'm planning on making Cecille a Falcoknight, but are there any other reclass options that would be advisable/beneficial at this point? Keep in mind that I haven't unlocked No Reclass Limit yet, so everyone is stuck in their respective class groups. Also keep in mind that I'm fully aware of Dark Mage!Cord not being beneficial; it's mostly on a whim, for fun. I think that I can afford myself one whimsical group addition on a basic Hard mode team. My team choices, as a whole, are largely a mixture of how much I like a character, how useful I thought they'd be, and how easy it would be for them to reach their potential; for the most part, the characters that were selected made the cut because of sufficiantly high overall scores in those three areas. The selection process was not strictly practical. Finally, keep in mind that I am playing on my DS Lite using an authentic copy of the game, so any emulation-related tricks are unavailable to me. So, any suggestions? Ideas? Helpful tips? I welcome your input!
  19. Thanks muchly, I got the stationary, but... I haven't actually unlocked the ability to use it yet... Oh well. I will someday. I am nonetheless grateful. And also we both have the same registered favorite game. That's kinda neat.
  20. Oh, may I have the stationary? My friend code is 4983-5189-5514.Thanks in advance!
  21. Could I get a complete list of the customizable attributes of the Avatar/My Unit? I just want all the areas/attributes (i.e: hair, eyes, body type, stats, etc.) you can customize, not the individual options (i.e: blue hair, closed eyes, etc.) for each one. If you can customize an attribute in more than one way, in which ways can it be customized? Custom custom custom custom.
  22. Um um um... I am not sure. Gender is mostly irrelevent since there's no chance I'll use myself for my Avatar anyway, but I guess I could give some general ideas for each gender. Male: Name: Russell Sex: Herp Class: Strategist -> Grandmaster/Dark Knight/Demon Fighter (in keeping with initial weapon ranks. Other classes will be used to acquire skills) May be a Knight/General instead. Appearence: Red hair (pinkish-red if the game allows it; whatever's closest to hair color 4 in FE12) middle-size body structure, boyish/feminine face, yellow/brown eyes. Best Stat: Defense Worst Stat: Speed Skills: I dunno. Lover: Not a clue. Female: Name: Polka Sex: Derp Class: Strategist -> Archer -> Bride/Assassin/Sniper/Bow Knight/somethingfemalewithbows (in keeping with her New Mystery of the Emblem class line (Archer > General.) Other classes will be used to acquire skills) Appearence: Spiky green hair or another hairstyle that I decide fits her (color fixed as green), probably middle-size body structure, slightly inwardly-slanted purple eyes. Best Stat: Luck, Speed or Defense Worst Stat: HP, Magic or Resistance Skills: No idea. Lover: Haven't the foggiest. Polka is actually just Return of the FE12 MU, but I ended up liking her so much that she might just return, Link-style, to give Chrom and friends a hand... Either that or FE12 Hard Mode hero Newman will be canon to Awakening!Polka's exploits. Russell is just a random My Unit I made once and never ended up doing anything with. Of course, I might end up with a totally different character from either of these, but Polka and Russell are the top two candidates.
  23. This game uses PoR/RD-style weapon representation, yes? Your characters are shown holding the weapon they actually have instead of just a generic weapon of that type? If this is the case, can you change the colors of forged weapons? I know you can rename them, but it would be nice to be able to change the colors as well, just for a bit more customization. Can DLC/SpotPass characters keep up with the new characters, stat-wise? That is, assuming you're not grinding ridiculously to max everyone's everything? Is My Unit/Avatar more balanced in this game? As in, not 1-upping every other member of whatever class you selected? (Although, Awakening!MU can't do that specifically until later...)
  24. Lon'qu is kinda odd-looking, but the katakana for it (Ronkuu) is kinda impossible to translate to something that doesn't just sound like a made-up name, at least to a native English speaker. (Ronku? Loncku? Ronkh? Lonque? Ron Coup?) I probably would've just gone with something vaguely similar like Locke or shortened it to Ron or something, but Lon'qu works, I guess. As for other changes, meh, I'm not really bothered. So long as the translated names fit the characters well enough, I'm cool with it, although I will still be confused by needless changes. That aside Alm's Sword seems to imply we'll be getting the DLC characters from entries prior to 7, which is awesome, although getting Roy wouldn't have surprised me even if the others were excluded. I'm actually kinda interested to see what their names will be. February 4th is an awesome release date, too. Can't wait!
  25. I love Mother 1. In fact, it's my personal favorite of the series; the atmosphere is wonderful... kinda crisp, I guess? Maybe "brisk" would be better, but maybe there's no single word for this particular concept... It's like... It's not a depraved hellhole, but at the same time you feel like there is a genuine threat there. The whole adventure is something I think the heroes would be able to look back on fondly, for the most part, years later. I really liked the villain, too, although seeing him in his original, comprehensible (and, according to personal suspicions, secretly a big softie) form, it makes the final boss of EarthBound seem terribly sad to me... well, by video game standards, but I still consider him to be a very tragic villain. (Not that Porky isn't, mind you) As for gameplay... there's not much to say. It's pretty much generic JRPG gameplay, although the lack of a world map, instead having the whole thing as one continuous area, was nice. Could've used fewer bizarre difficulty spikes. Also without Rosemary Manor. People complain about Duncan's Factory and Mt. Itoi, but I found Rosemary Manor to be seriously irritating as well, and there's already a "creepy" area, so it even has a redundant design theme. It was the first game I finished in Japanese (Mother 3 was the second) and the first NES game I've ever finished.
