  1. The amount of controversy regarding this game is ridiculous! Being able to romance the children characters (which I know was a thing in Awakening but nonetheless was still controversial), the whole Soleil debacle, being able to marry your own siblings (yes I know they're not blood related but people will and do still find it weird), the hot springs to some degree, the skinship/petting mechanic, it doesn't end! (FYI I'm not for or against any of these just stating the topics that have caused some controversy)

That aside though here's what I'm hoping they do regarding the whole skinship thing, if it is in fact removed (which I'm hoping it isn't) then I would at least hope that there would be some kind of mechanic that replaces it. Preferably something that shows off the 3D models in some way. Hell I wouldn't mind if they did something along the lines of: Unit A walks in, says something like "You called for me Corrin?", screen fades out then back in, shows their 3D model, they say a line of dialogue that would normally play at the end of the whole face rubbing mini game, 'friendship level increased!' or what have you, screen fades out and back in, they say something along the lines of "that was fun, let's do it again sometime!", then they leave.

The other alternative is that it's like the Awakening barracks, they walk in, say hello, screen fades out and back in (representing the passage of time in this case), they say it was fun/goodbye (you get the bonus at some point within all this) then they leave.

The second alternative I mentioned is what I'm hoping won't happen it's just a possibility I thought up for a replacement. I'd really like the 3D models to be utilized in some way and not just used in the S rank cutscenes, really that's all I care about. I never cared to much about the face rubbing mechanic one way or another but I thought being able to see a 3D model that moved and talked felt a lot more lively and engaging then the plain static image that we're so used to seeing in FE games. I dunno, I just feel like it would be a waste is all to not make more use of those assets in some way. :\

  2. There is an NFC reader that Nintendo is developing that will allow the regular 3DS to read amiibos and cipher cards though I don't know if it's out yet in Japan. It's set to release sometime this summer over there and will be coming to the US in the future.

  3. I pronounce 'Cher' as 'Sher' (like the singer) and 'che' as 'shey' although sometimes I pronounce 'Cher' like 'Sure', lol. Panne was always pan for me, reminded me of the flute which then reminded me of the Greek god Pan. (Plus that's how the name of the fabric that she's named after is pronounced anyhow)

In any case when I first saw Tsubaki's name change my mind immediately went to Tsukuyomi being changed to Sukuyomi (lol) even though it'll most likely be something like Kuyomi or Sukuyo. (don't ask me why I thought of that last one)

I can see Velour becoming Velvet instead though if it stays the same I won't have a problem with it and I like Flannel's name (I pronounce it a bit differently to make it sound more like a name but I have no idea how to write out my pronunciation accurately). The only one of the shape-shifters that I see possibly having some sort of name change is Nishiki (which I pronounce more or less like Neesh-kee but with a very short ee in the middle) simply because I can see people mispronouncing this name as Nee-Shee-Kee or something like that.

(I still feel silly for reading out Benoit as Ben-oyt instead of giving the 'oit' a 'wah' sound)

  4. Dear Leon you told me to perfect my aim and I did let me tell you your older sis was the perfect target. - Love Zero

Oh dear god, I think I just died. Bravo, bravo!

On another note Zero is THE man. Already one of my favorite characters by far. Hope the localization team does his character justice.

  5. Well on the plus side this will probably get changed up for the localized version. I didn't hate the support necessarily, in some ways Kamui was being thoughtful towards Soleil, IS just could've gone about it in a much better way. Though I never really planned on reaching an S support with Soleil as Male Kamui anyways so I guess I'm in the clear. Chances are I'll mostly be playing a Female Kamui.

  6. Kagerou was immediately my favorite female character on the Hoshido side the moment I saw her, and no it wasn't because of her 'assets' as I'm gay so that's hardly a factor. I just enjoyed her design as a whole, and now that I've learned of her crazy STR growth and just all-around greatness I love her even more. Definitely gonna be one of my main units in my Hoshido playthrough, probably either gonna marry her to Kamui or Ryouma, maybe Saizou, I dunno. Also can't you have 1 S support and 1 A+ support at the same time? So you could max support her with both Kamui and Rinka on the same run? (I dunno, that's just what I heard from somewhere, correct me if I'm wrong)

  7. Doesn't quite explain why

the Garon is a fake. Much more sensible if Hydra and Anankos were different dragons.

In localization names change as we've already seen. Besides was anankos ever even mentioned in ANY of the Japanese dialogue?

So in Mitama's (Asama's daughter) descriptoon it says that she likes to express herself through haiku. Does this mean that she writes haiku on the side, or does she actually speak in haiku as well?

I'm curious about this as well, I think that that would be a pretty neat little gimmick.

  8. Why did Lucina and Marth have weird artwork on their portraits on that stream? Didn't they each recieve their own "standard" artwork for this game?

The amiibo ones do, they could've been cipher card versions or something like that.

    Edit: ^Ninja'd

  9. The only thing you can really grind in the Nohr path is supports through spotpass/streetpass battles. There are bonus battles that grant exp and such where you fight risen at your base but they are limited and seem to appear after each chapter or so. Also I don't think the option of grinding should deter someone from trying out a game as it is entirely optional but that's just my opinion.

  10. The only thing I'll really be trying to avoid are story spoilers, I don't mind learning about who can support who, who all the playable characters are and just in-game mechanics and such in general as we've been learning about that sort of thing for awhile now.

  11. ??? I thought this game came out only in Hong Kong and Japan this year? Is the person from New York importing?

If you own a Japanese 3DS you can still download the game via the Nintendo E-Shop at the time of its release no matter your location.

  12. I can imagine there would be some differences, i.e. hairstyle and color as well as possibly their personality being different but I'm not sure. There's too little we know about the whole system so far for me to make an educated guess on the matter.

Edit: Appearance-wise I think their faces//expressions would stay the same though, I just think the main difference would be the hair. I'm only basing this off of the fact that Kanna seemed to have a hairstyle that mirrored that of Felicia and Shara's hair looked more similar to Orochi's but assuming she's meant to be not!Tharja and that three of the children will be the 3 most famous adult/parent characters in Awakening according to Japan's poll (Gaius, Cordelia and Tharja, excluding Chrom because that would just be weird), and that all three of these not!Parent/Adult characters are on the Hoshido side to balance out the whole not!Children on Nohr then I'm not sure if Shara's hair would actually change at all and it would just be color that changed. I'm guessing that for the not!Parent/Adult characters their personality remains the same no matter what as well, this would also allow the designers to go more ham on creating more unique children for other characters and their pairings as the not!Clones probably don't take as much effort.

  13. Well generally my first character in any game like this that offers customization is a male with black/dark hair and has the name Seth, why Seth? I dunno, I just like the name I suppose. As for my female Avatar, hmm... I'm not sure, I'll probably base the name on whatever look I like the best for her.

  14. Those were to people who never played another Fe game.

Except those are the kind of people who need Casual mode the most, it eases them into the game. For those who want a harder challenge it's there. There are options for both kinds of players, it's a good thing and you questioning others about their choice/playstyle in a thread not even regarding such a mechanic is just further derailing it. Please stop this nonsense.

As for the Dengeki issue, I too hope we get some decent scans to look at. While I could make out Kanna fairly well Orochi and Tsukuyomi's child was definitely pretty blurred, the main resemblance I saw to Tharja was her bangs and the shading around her eyes.

  15. Yeah, obviously no one wants a gross stereotype, and I know Japan has it's own issues with depictions of LBGT people. But ironically, Fire Emblem has actually been sort of okay in it's depictions of gay (not cannon, maybe just subjective, but definitely hinting) characters, at least when considering major characters. Take, as you mentioned, Ike and Soren. That wasn't official, but, it was really suggestive, and their relationship was pretty touching, and their characters didn't really fall into terrible gay stereotypes.

It just seems like it would have been very easy for IS to go the extra step, and not leave it at just "maybe? Are they? Well they could be" and actually have some canon same sex romances. And I would have loved to see that.

I knew it was a faint hope, but it's still sad to see it (probably) shattered now.

Trust me I agree, I think it could've been an easily included and very much welcomed addition to the game, but I also understand why it probably isn't included in this game. I mean you also have to think about how IS was just brought back from the brink of death through Awakening, they're experimenting with their new fan-base and seeing just what it is they can do without losing said growing fan-base, catering to both old FE fans and new alike with two separate versions including there own sets of mechanics. They're playing it safe per-say despite adding in some outlandish features (skin-shipping/FE Amie), and while I would much rather have had LGBT supports than the face-touching feature it's a step in the right direction. No doubt the next title will most likely feature such supports if this one does, in fact, not. We have only the future to look forward to in that regard.

  16. Most of Japan's representation of homosexuals in media such as anime and video games is very stereotypical, even today, as they are commonly used for comedic relief/value. Sure there are some cases where this is not the case but said cases are few and far between, sometimes it's so subtle that it's practically just speculation held amongst fans, or it's just incredibly vague like Ike and Soren's PoR and RD interactions/endings, are they best friends or lovers? Nobody knows! Personally I would not want a stereotypical LGBT character in FE as it just further reinforces the stereotype, and stereotypes aren't fun, and from what we've seen there's enough interaction between certain characters that hints towards LGBT relationships, even if there is no actual S support for said relationships (I'm mainly looking at Silas' dialogue with Male Corrin and Camilla's description in Belka's description). So there's a bit of something there for us regardless. It's a bit of a bummer but if there isn't any straight-up LGBT representation in this latest title, as there most likely won't be, then so be it. Let us hold out hope for the next one and stop arguing about a feature not being included in a game that is almost already out as it's kinda becoming a bit pointless to continue this 'discussion' and people are starting to get a bit too heated for my tastes.

  17. I'm a homosexual and I see the LGBT community represented in today's media all the time, sometimes it's stereotypical sure, but it's there. Although that's with American media, we aren't talking about American media here when regarding Nintendo as it is a Japanese company, and thus their Japanese consumers come first while their American consumers come second, it's just how it is. Now this isn't to say I'm not disappointed that there probably won't be any LGBT representation in If/Fates but I understand why this is the case. In my view while sure it would be a great feature it doesn't really bother me if they decide to not include it as I've grown fairly used to this sort of deal by now, not just in FE but in other Japanese games as well. Homosexuality isn't as widely accepted over there as it is here which is something many don't seem to understand. It'll probably be a little while longer before we see any LGBT representation in the Fire Emblem series. And hey, just be happy there's at least some kind of feature that enables you to have some one on one time with a member of the same sex, I am anyway. Ultimate bromance with Silas here I come! :D

Edit: Also for those saying how Nintendo said that they would be 'more inclusive' in the future, well to my understanding that only applied to future installments of Tomodachi Life itself. They never said anything about other Nintendo games, but perhaps things will change, or perhaps there are some LGB supports included in FE If/Fates and we just don't know about 'em. Though the likelihood of that being the case seems low at best.

  18. He just seemed quite harsh and sarcastic whereas in Nohr he seems earnest and naive.

Well to be fair I think a lot of the way he was acting towards his 'father' was actually just a front to try and appease him/get on his good side. I'm pretty sure his real motive is to try to form some kind of coup against him but to do that he needs to be able maneuver around the place with ease. Only he doesn't realize that his 'father' actually has no intent of letting him live. But yea he was a bit naive at other parts, also I liked his honesty, I got a much happier vibe from Nohr despite the dark surroundings. Really contrasts with what we've seen of Hoshido as Corrin is fairly harsh and all "Answer or die!" despite the bright and colorful surroundings.

Also Female Corrin in the IGN gameplay is so cute~! <3

  19. I missed this intentionally to avoid story spoilers. Is it safe to watch this without risking being spoiled?

Gosh I hope this a real thing and not just for the demo.

There wasn't really anything introduced that we don't already know, especially if you watched the Nohr one yesterday. It was mostly just Kamui getting introduced to Sakura's retainers and then gameplay.
