  1. The growths were on some random gamefaqs topic about Kezhda that I found after scrolling through a few pages of google search. Apparently they were posted by a guy named "I_eat_tables."

    *Looks at Tables*

In case it matters for future reference, here they are:

    80% HP, 30% STR, 15% MAG, 30% SKL, 35% SPD, 50% LUK, 30% DEF and 25% RES

Somebody should add those to the mainsite/FE10 hacking topic just in case someone else needs them.

Edit: Searched through the hex and found only one occurrence of the above hex string. Does FE10 handle generic growths differently (for instance by pointing all of them to that one string or something) than FE9?

Edit 2: Yeeeeeeah, this should probably be moved to ROM hacking now.

  2. I can't find them on the mainsite. I'm doing some hacking and I want to make sure I don't screw anything up.

Are they the same as the FE9 growths? Edit: Apparently not, I can't find the FE9 generic growths anywhere in FE10data. Maybe I should put this in ROM Hacking instead.

By the way, this isn't for Walhart!FE10 or anything *nervous laughter*

  3. Ok, so I've been busy lately and haven't had time for an update, but I now have some time to start chapter 26. However, this is being delayed by another recruitment dilemma (definitely my last one since my chapter 27 and 28 recruits are already decided). Like before, I have it narrowed down to a few candidates, and the sooner you guys help me decide who to get the sooner I can start the next chapter. Whoever I choose is going to be my last Beorc character, so they are definitely getting the best forges possible and they are a likely candidate for those 2 arms scroll. Personally, I am leaning towards the swordmaster, but I could definitely be persuaded. I look forward to people's input!

    GFEE01-66_zpsb624efc6.pngGFEE01-67_zpsed3c0a9d.png

    Pros:

-Getting another Brave sword is nice (best weapon out of the three recruit candidates)

-B rank allows him to use brave sword (with which he will be probably x4 hitting since his high speed), plus it means he is close to being able to use silver sword forges

-High-ish STR, can use brave sword without AS loss

-Ridiculous Speed, will double pretty much anything

-Skill means he isn't likely to have issues hitting

-not a bad candidate for occult/resolve scroll

    -best candidate offense-wise

    Cons:

-Already have 2 swordmasters (and variety is more important than stats as evidenced by my choosing the hawk over another tiger last chapter)

    -Locked to one weapon type

    -Pretty pathetic defense

    -Lowest movement of the candidates

    GFEE01-70_zps40dbbf1f.png

    GFEE01-71_zps099dd663.png

    Pros:

-Good choice for variety (only 1 other paladin will see any use, and Lancelot looks different)

-C ranks in two weapon types (Swords and Axes)

    -High move paladin

-axes are a good weapon type

    -pretty versatile stats

    Cons:

    -Low skill and hit rates

-Highest weapon rank is C (no silver/brave weapons for a while if ever)

    -comes with pretty bad weapons

    GFEE01-68_zps3acbb285.pngGFEE01-69_zps051d409b.png

    Pros:

-A rank lances is great and silver lance is decent

-Flying and 9 move can't hurt

    -Tremendous defense and strength

-Best variety choice (only one other wyrm recruited in the whole run)

-Could possibly replace Cormag as flier/rescuedropper

-Can use steel axes for secondary weapon type

    Cons:

    -Awful Speed

-Flying not that useful in remaining maps

-Would compete with hawk and other fliers for full guard and savior scroll

    -Weaknesses to bows and wind

-Aid is not enough to carry some of the heavier laguz

  4. Funny enough I like all 3 of those lords you just mentioned. I like all the lords to an extent [except Hector for the most part but he is ok in the end.] But what are you trying to do other then start a fight?

"I dislike this character therefore no more games about this character, Oh I also hate these characters too" You could have just said. I'm not fond of Marth, and it would be easier to accept but instead you outright say he sucks. Do you really expect people who enjoy his games or enjoy his playstyle in Smash to not try to bite on this comment? Even if you said "In my opinion" it still looks like you are presenting it as an undeniable fact.

I'm pretty sure most people are sick of Marth and I wasn't talking about Smash because this is in the "Fire Emblem" section, not the "Smash" section, so that's irrelevant.

And no, I wasn't trying to start a fight. I thought the "no more marth games" thing was a general consensus for the most part, although apparently I

underestimated the amount of bland-Lord fanboys.

On topic, an original game or FE8 remake would be ideal. Although, I've never played FE4 or FE5, so if people say those need a remake I'll take their word for it. However, I don't think that this thing being copyrighted rules out or hints at any of the possibilities for remakes/new games that have been mentioned.

  5. A slight error I noticed while screwing around with AR codes in path of radiance.

The site lists Tibarn's chapter 17-4 and 28 death quotes as being the same:

    "(Chapter 17, 28)
Tibarn: ...Urk! Impossible... Looks like I need to pull back." from here.

This is the correct quote for 17-4, but his chapter 28 quote is different:

"Oof! I can't believe I'm saying this, but... I must withdraw."

Proof: This Video (chapter 28 quote starts at 1:30).

  6. That second option's not a bad idea. I'd still rather have a completely brand new title though, because Marth's world has been milked enough already for now.

Anything but another Marth game. Seriously. Worst lord in the series (and that's saying something since Roy and Eliwood exist) in my opinion.

  7. you mean the cliche "woman is about to get killed, and we as script writers can't let that happen so let's make up a reason for her to live so the fanboys won't boycott us". extremely stupid IMO.

Umm... the game forced your main lord to kill Pelleas (a character who you almost end up feeling sorry for and whose motivations are much deeper than Lucia's) in cold blood. I think any "we can't let anyone die or else think of the FANS" argument is out the window.

Not to mention the fact that Ike and his mercs hadn't appeared thus far at that point in the game, so it wasn't impossible that they were waiting for the right moment to strike. If you want a crappily executed "Deus Ex Machina" plot incident, look at FE9 chapter 2 when Shinon shoots that stupid arrow that saves Rolf and Mist and condemns Ike to eternal annoyance at the hands of those whiny brats.

I still feel that something should have been done to make units like Aran or Vika feel more like characters than placeholders

This is actually a decent point and probably the only thing that I can believe is a flaw in FE10. Aran especially and a few others were pretty generic. Of course, I don't have a problem with generics by a long shot, but some people don't like how some characters (Kyza, Aran, Vika, Lyre, etc.) are very underdeveloped and I can understand that.

That being said, I think the majority of the characters in FE10 were handled extremely well, and while some were a bit bland compared to FE13 (others like Soren had spectacular character development), I think it is for the better since they were much more realistic in FE10 than Awakening's flamboyant, gimmicky, and one-dimensional "eats candy at impractical times" or "has the best body in the army" or whatever.

  8. Do an FE10 laguz only run, no royals and aim for lowest turn count.

I actually thought about doing this exact thing at one point.

Plain fire emblem runs don't really appeal to me anymore either. Arbitrary restrictions (and hacks, if available) are the way to go! By the time I get bored of those I'm sure regular FE will feel fresh again.

On topic (even though this is FFtF) this is probably the best thing you can do to rekindle your fire emblem motivation IMO.

  9. Even in a game like FE12, archers only have good EXP income against certain enemy types that they ORKO. That is to say, that even in games where their particular "niche" is useful, they still don't have stable experience gain because that niche doesn't give a lot of experience unless the game is stuffed with flying units. Take Leonardo vs Edward. Both are useful in their earlygame chapters, both are going to be used at every available opportunity; but the path of least resistance is to give kills to Edward instead of Leonardo. Even though they're equally "useful", that's not reflected in their EXP gain because Edward is better suited to finishing enemies off and Leonardo is better suited to weakening.

This is certainly true, however some games (or at least major sections of them) ARE stuffed with flying units (those damn wyverns in FE12 come to mind), meaning that archers actually get more experience than myrmidons and the such.

But you're right, for the most part bow-locked units have serious EXP issues that other units don't and this is often overlooked when debating the usefulness of such units.

  10. The thing about archers is that they're best used for player phase chipping: a role that is useful, but gives little in the way of experience. Personally, I think the whole experience system should be completely revised.

About archers, you're definitely right that they are best at player phase chipping (obviously, since they have virtually no enemy phase). Consequently, their usefulness varies game to game. Which wouldn't be a problem if they changed the class or map layout to fix this but with FE13's enemy phase heavy maps vs something like FE12 where archers are more useful, it is the consistency of the archer class (little to no evolution throughout the series besides the occasional mounted version) that makes them inconsistent (in the sense that if the class stays the same game to game but the enemy density changes, archers' effectiveness as a class is going to vary).

  11. Chapter 24 is up (10.5 minutes). I managed to 5 turn it and snag both scrolls from both villages, so I'm pretty impressed with myself.

Since apparently my hacking/cheat codes screwed up the AI for ballistas (this glitch was also present in chapter 23 though it had less effect there- I wonder if the rocks will drop next chapter?), it was pretty useless to slap the full guard on Melty. I could have possibly 4 turned this chapter if i had known this and given it to Cormag instead but I'll settle for a 5 turn clear considering I'm not even shooting for lowest possible turn counts here.

  12. In some other Tactica/Strategy games they make mounted/horse cavalry units being weak to Archer. Is that would make Archers too OP?

Realistically speaking (as in, in real life) it would make the most sense to make mounts weak to infantry units like soldiers/halberdiers if you were to make mounts weak to a certain unit type. Not sure how that would hold as far as FE class balance though.

  13. FE12 is royal airforce for the first 60% of the game with a transition to swordmasters, berserkers, snipers, and horsemen by the end of the game.

    oh, and warp/rescue/again.

This is definitely true, but that's still most of the classes right there. Besides, I still think hunters and General Aran have some use. Ok maybe not General Aran especially not in an LTC context.

  14. I've been thinking about the existence of the Berserker class as available to the player and came to the conclusion that the job's terrain specifics haven't been put to good use in Fire Emblem - especially if we compare it to fliers.

For example, FE6. You get both a Pirate and a Brigand, as well as a prepromote Zerker later on, and they all share two big flaws - 1) their attacks are hard to connect, 2) they are often difficult to carry around. For example, SMs and Zerkers share that tasty 30% crit bonus but when Miledy, your top flier, cannot lift anybody too heavy, you have more of a reason to lift up Rutger for bosskilling fun. There's the whole strategy of dropping one of these on a peak making it highly unlikely that a WK connects a powerful blow, but there are faster ways to dispose of these folks (Nosferatanking and units capable of one-rounding like Percival and Miledy) without slowing you down from fulfilling the chapter objective. Berserker's waterwalk might seem useful in maps like 14x, but even there you can get to the boss much faster (even without a double-warp, or a single warp if you rig turn 1 EP for Roy's survival).

In FE7 you get an actual competent Berserker in Hawkeye, whose 6 move isn't too shabby for a while and he's there whenever you want to not die but little more than that after the desert/Genesis. Dart can become faster and hit harder if raised (chapter 25 seems like the perfect occasion to get him to promotion) but lacks Hawkeye's huge durability, not to mention having accuracy issues against some of the mildest foes around. The terrain bonus means little as you'll probably make use of it once to lure Vaida away from the killer weaponry shop.

Next game, and we have Ross, a character who needs to get out of his rut in order to become a foot unit with superfluous offence. In chapter 12 Eirika, he could peakwalk and get to the spiders before the rest of the party is able to confront said enemies. Dozla can do some of the same tasks with poorer stats (iirc he gets doubled by some foes on that map).

Path of Radiance introduces a lategame joiner in Largo, with less reliable offence than Boyd and noticeable squishiness.

Then we get the DS remakes - any progress there? Darros can turn into a Berserker if you reclass, but makes a poor one, while Barst (and possibly others) would rather go Hero for the extra speed and move to make a difference. In FE12, Pirates get good offence early on and there's that map where you recruit Julian where a Pirate helps out with the DKs. They're also apparently good for combat with 1-2 range and offer a desirable speed growth.

I hear Awakening's top Berserker is a good unit to invest into on the higher difficulties too, mostly because of combat and pair up.

What I'm trying to say with this, Berserkers have barely had a chance to shine so far. If we compare them to Pegs, who cross rivers even more easily, they aren't afraid of arrows and do not take penalties to AS when equipping stronger weapons (in games prior to PoR). It seems that Berserkers' -walk properties could be put to better use by making them available in maps where rivers and mountains could be crossed for efficiency and convenience purposes, like a Jeiganish Zerker carrying a Lord over the river to seize.

I don't think there's been anything like that in the FE series so far, but maybe there are hacks who construct maps where such tactics are made possible. Regardless, Berserkers' role should become more important than it has been.

I agree with this. We need more Berserkers! Hawkeye is really good and Berserker makes a great reclass in FE11 and FE12, but the other games' berserkers just aren't cutting it with the design. Even in terrain that they have the advantage of being able to move through, they are outclassed by fliers in terms of movement and most stats. I mean, being able to move 2-3 squares in water or mountains isn't that great when fliers can move 7-8.

espinosa, i think the premise of your topic is flawed. i've been thinking about heroes, swordmasters, snipers, warriors, and halberdiers, and i came to the conclusion that the jobs' whatever specifics haven't been put to good use in fire emblem - especially if we compare them to fliers.

This is a good point and I think it is true to a certain extent. I mean, you can make a point that any class is useless/not implemented well, but for some like Berserkers and Warriors (in some games), it is easier to make that argument.

  15. As much as I hate Shadow Dragon, I think the DS games had it right in terms of class balance with reclassing. Generals weren't that useless; FE11 Wolf, Sedgar, FE12 male class sets removed Aran made decent prepromotes as Generals and even bow users had their use. The only problem with that was that hunters were way better than archers, but that was somewhat balanced by the class limits (better classes like hunter, berserker, swordmaster had lower maximums for people in that class). Snipers on the other hand weren't even bad, especially in FE12. Mounts weren't even that OP in those games, in fact Paladins were kinda useless, but that balances out with the fact that you could have a ton of them.

So yeah, the DS games might not have had the most balanced classes per se, but there was a niche for most of them (except maybe archer and sorceror) and you could always reclass out.

Of course character balance is another beast entirely *shudders*.

  16. They analyze hit and damage and calculate the "best" move based on that.

Essentially, they go for the effectiveness hits because their damage value is USUALLY higher than the rest of your units.

So anyone with Iote's Shield would be treated like any other unit.

AFAIK this is actually the first game in the series that does it this way. I believe I remember seeing most of the other games prioritize attacking a flier with bows even if it would do zero damage.

  17. Ah, I see. Man, RR looks so interesting lol.

Yeah, I know. This topic makes RR look so cool. It makes me want to try it.

And then I remember I have so much other stuff to do *sigh*.

Edit: By the way, does anyone know if anything like this has been logged for FE6 or FE7? I looked around but couldn't seem to find anything.

  18. I'd actually say Lunatic+ gets easier as it progresses, even at the end, because the army has many more options open to it to counter the enemies' added skills.

As long as you don't make my mistake and instapromote everyone really early.

  19. I forgot about the ch14 secret shop. I'd definitely recommend at least promoting him then or possibly Tana instead, if not with the earlier whip, for the desert and such. Do you have any idea who else you might want to use the master seal on? There isn't really a shortage of most promotion items except whips and ocean seals, but still.
