  1. I don't really know if there is a way to do what you're talking about, the easiest way to make this feasable though is to make the first promotion and the second promotino have the same palette, I don't know how many classes that's gonna work with though.

  3. I would add more grass patterns, and use the road to make it flow from one building to the next. Also try moving the houses around, when people say that a village map looks artificial they mostly react to it looking too neat. You want the houses too look like people just went and placed them (at last IMO). the houses in that map are pretty much all set in rows, which is kinda the opposite of what you want to do. Also you used some shadow grass tiles in the bottom right corner, I'm not really sure what everyone else thinks, but I've always found that they're really awkwards to work with, and kinda make everything feel off. I either use dark grass for shadows or just ignore it, though ultimately the decision is up to you. The maps here are really good, keep up the good work.
  4. Can't stop laughing hahahaha Yeah you should have gotten a thief during chapter 2 (he automatically joins you), on like turn 3 I think? Also I have to agree with Ghast why are you baiting Kadven with Nilou XD. Bram has a tendency to turn out bad but you really got rng screwed if he's being doubled, would you mind showing his stats?
  5. So I saw this and I started think about doing the same thing they did in the video, you could have a boat in the middle and a buind of tentacles coming out of the ocean. Then once you defeat a certain number of them the krakens head shows up. Of course you'd have to insert some map sprites for them but you can probably do it. By the way this is totally my idea.
  6. Ok so I'm gonna come out and say it, am I the only one who finds this a little cheap? I mean at least once a week or so somebody who's new to the forums basically says "I have this cool idea, please make a hack based on it" and some of us try to politely tell him that he has to make it himself, that's how the site works. This is exactly the same thing except you changed the wording, you're saying "come learn to hack", while leaving out the "by make these hacks for me". I don't know it just seems hypocritical to me. .
  7. Thanks Solum :). About the crossed off tiles I just wanted to cover how to make a simple mountain, I tried making a complete tutorial once and it ended up stupidly long. I'm not saying that you shouldn't use those tiles, just I won't use them in the tutorial, hope it didn't come off that way. As for the peak shading I mention it in like one line in the notes part, but your explanation is much better XD. Thanks for the critique.
  8. Ok so I tried making a tutorial on how to make simple mountains, hopefully this helps some people out. Before we start some of the beginning steps are almost stupidly short, so hope you don't mind that. Also I am very liberal with the word "Square". Step Zero: Which Tiles will we use? Step One: Starting your Mountain Step Two: Mountain Ranges. Step Three: Peaks Step Four: Moving Left Step Five: Moving Right Step Six: Borders Step Seven: Filling in the Mountain Step Eight: Admiring your handiwork/Valleys between mountains "Notes": Now some things about tiles that I didn't mention above. Hope this helps someone, and thanks for reading.
  9. To Klok: Ok, you now only have 6 days a week. I recommend you remove mondays from your schedule. To Matt: I recommend you do stuff yourself and then ask people to do what you can't afterwards. Like say doing everything in your hack save portraits, then asking someone who is good at spriting to make them for you once you have enough progress.
  10. For chapter events you can look at Archs event tutorial, though some things are off iirc (like you can't actually use LOU1, I'm not sure if he's updated that or not). For world map events no one that I know has managed to figure them out, so far as changing the map goes. Midnight Sun changed the text and there's a module for changing the icons that show up there, say a castle instead of a fort. I've found this is only true if you learn FE7 first, if you try learning FE8 first you won't have to unlearn anything and it should be easier to grasp. tl;dr: Chapter events yes, Map event no.

    Hey Vennobennu, thanks for the help. I still have one problem though, I tried testing it with a simple event, and for some reason Eirika (the character) just starts in the space I want her to move to, instead of loading and showing a movement animation. Here's my code if that helps:

    Hey people, I have a question involving REDAs, those things that let you move a unit after loading them in FE8. The main question is: How do they work? I've done some searching and I can't find a tutorial explaining how they work. The closest I got was Arch's event tutorial and that doesn't explain it well IMO, and when I tried using his example EA gave me an error message. I tried figuring it out on my own using the Language Raws that come with the EA but I didn't get far. Thanks for the help
  16. Try re-inserting the Events and map without multiple programs in, and then opening it in FEditor. If it still happens I think you need a new base rom.

I thought it might be but when I tried giving the character magic it was still stuck at 1-5, even though I changed his magic to 1 (I tested it before with 9 and wanted to see if it worked with other values). If 1-5 is the minimum then that would explain it (is it?). Though in retrospect it was originally a str character, so I will probably test it again with a magic one.
  18. Ryru why do you always know how to do stuff I can't figure out? We never really figured out why the range was 1-5 and not some other random number, I'll probably test it some more this weekend if I have time. I have a theory that maybe the game bugged and made all staffs have 1-5 range, though hopefully it's not the case XD.
  19. Yeah I meant this. Sorry to ask but, where are the palettes and how would I de-compress them?
  20. Is there a tutorial/noted on how to give enemies different battle palletes? I've been looking for it in Hacking Resources and Hacking Questions but I can't find any. If there are any I bet they're in a really obvious place.
