  1. Overly long cutscenes and an increased emphasis on a game being 'cinematic.' Basically when control is taken away from me for too long, there are a few story-heavy games I like, so a correct gameplay/cutscene ratio has to be it. Unfocused and inconsistent gameplay. I don't like when there is no focal gameplay system, when the game can't decide what kind of game it wants to be and keeps reinventing itself on every other occasion. Also somewhat related is when a game in a long running series tries to completely reinvent itself. Feature creep. Also somewhat related to the above. Having options is nice, but sometimes too much is too much. I don't want to wade through hundreds of options and subsystems just to play the game remotely properly. And that doesn't suck the fun out of me just in video games, mind you.
  2. Instead of talking about the players and how many different kinds of them there might or might not be, let's talk about the developers for a moment. Intelligent Systems made it often clear that The Way FE IS Meant To Be Played™ is to Ironman it. When they encouraged that playstyle with the Paralogue requirements in Shadow Dragon, people complained. People complained so much and so loudly New Mystery did the complete opposite of how they like to play FE and added Casual Mode to appease players. Ergo Casual Mode is when Intelligent Systems stopped having their heads up their own asses and did something for you, for the players.
  3. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gTKae6grwbQ I wouldn't mind if Ironman was added alongside it, though. I also wish a less condescending word than 'casual' was used. Especially since, judging by the replies in this thread so far, the people who would unironically use the word 'casual' condescendingly are the ones who wouldn't want such a mode. Europe was on the right track with 'newcomer' but it isn't quite it.
  4. I still think gamers' perception has become too much about length in hours than length in levels now. What happened to saying "I reached a new level" or "I reached a new area"? I think the real problem with The Order is that it's only about three levels long.
  5. Hunter ranks are a lot more lenient than in tri, and tbqh the level system in tri was a bit too slow at times. Also you start noticing there isn't much reason to farm a lot in low rank since armour becomes obsolete as soon as you enter high rank and there isn't much room with skill experimentation.
  6. My headcanon is that the graphics style for the DS Fire Emblems came about after an exciting and heartful session of Heroes of Might and Magic 3 inside the Intelligent Systems offices. It was so exciting everyone agreed the next FE should have graphics similiar to HoMM3.
  7. Achievement lists that are completed just by beating the game are useless. The other ones are nice to keep track of collectibles and other challenges and house rules, I guess. I don't like though that with achievements those challenges and house rules are basically forced on you.
  8. I bought the hard copy on the release day of Metroid: Other M. Out of protest. I sure showed them!
  9. Name: Baron Fliegenberg Sex: male Class: don't care Other: Give him a jetpack ASAP! Name: Gräfin Wutzenstein Sex: female Class: don't care Other: Likes to play Munchkin
  10. Name: GrafWutzenstein Sex: male Class: Medic Other: I want to have the highest Willpower!
  11. Not negative, but minimal and even, like in Minecraft's case, negligible. Marketing is the catalyst to the real sales driver, word of mouth. There's also that "Marketing is what you do when your product is bad." quote which emphasizes what I'm trying to say here. This is more like it! Though I differentiate between a department of people thinking up new ways of what we're supposed to like and internet personalities who want to show everyone their new favourite thing. I honestly find it a little deplorable that these departments are looking for ways on how to exploit those personalities. Also there's nothing wrong with liking a game that hasn't sold well, but you have to disregard your personal feelings in a sales discussion. I also personally dislike people who hate something because it's popular a lot more than those who like something because it's popular. Every rule also has its exceptions, but then I ask myself, how many exceptions can there be to any rule?
  12. This sort of attitude is what Nintendo took and made the Wii completely lose its steam in its last years. "Our new console sells to an entirely new audience with entirely different gaming sensibilities than the usual gamer audience, what do we do now?" "I know, let's force traditional gaming sensibilities on them with Mario Galaxy 2, Metroid: Other M and Skyward Sword!" Minecraft took off entirely on word of mouth and now it's the biggest game of our time. The importance of marketing is still being overstated. Though, I'm probably going to be derided yet again for saying that Awakening had good sales because it is good.

People can become infamous for their meekness too. The video game Spelunker is also a meme in Japan because the protagonist is pathetically weak. Also I didn't make this but I still think its related to this thread: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8HSuJE98_iw
  14. Yes, definitely and without question. It's still not the next Call of Duty though, so there's still a lot of room to grow.
  15. I wrote my thoughts about it, albeit in German, elsewhere.
  16. They already are doing the FE amiibo thing with Project S.T.E.A.M. So this one isn't out of the question. You know what would be cool though? If you could use the Mega Man amiibo in either S.T.E.A.M. or FEif.
  17. Also I hope the final name stays as "Fire Emblem: Working Title."
  18. Here I am already getting excited for the new Fire Emblem, but it's already being dampened by Awakening haters. At least I can laugh back because this new game is only possible because of Awakening's success.
  19. I like when games used to come in large cardboard boxes with all sorts of nifty stuff in it, about as much as the collector's editions of today.
  20. My personal favourite is FFV. FFIX and FFI are a close second and third though, respectively.
  21. Every now again, this thread keeps reappearing. But this time let's do it with a twist! Post your playtimes of the entire last year. To do so, you launch the Activity Log, go to Daily Records, choose "One Year" on the top row of and pick "List" on the bottom right of the touchscreen. Nonetheless, here is my top 5: Super Smash Bros. -- 127:02 Miiverse -- 88:05 Senran Kagura Burst -- 65:18 Pokémon X -- 60:26 Shin Megami Tensei IV -- 31:30
  22. SEGA 3D Classics: After Burner II alongside the possibility that the phyiscal SEGA 3D Classics compilation might come outside of Japan, with the package illustration by Ken Sugimori completely intact.
  23. Games of the Year: Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and WiiU Honourable Mention: Senran Kagura Burst (also Review of the Year) Best Game Not From This Year: Shin Megami Tensei IV Console of the Year: Nintendo 3DS (Kirby/Mega May/Pokémon ORAS/Senran/SMT/Shovel Knight/Smash)
  24. That Aonuma's influence is as subdued as possible.
