It's possible that Project Naga added that as a little joke, too. For all we know, Not-Chagall could've just made a more generic death threat.

I would say that's unlikely, considering that the old translation was also talking about decapitations.

...oh geez. I think I might have to send somebody with the Thief Sword in that direction, just to be safe.

Keep in mind, the village right there also gives you the Thief Ring.

jrZrZpv.png: "Thracia's fate depends on a unified peninsula. The verdant northern soils are the perfect cure for the famine and poverty wracking our south. We've been shunned and vilified for centuries, dismissed as ravenous hyenas... Yet what choice did we ever have? If not for our answer to this world's craving for sellswords, Thracia would never have had the funds to barely survive as we do. We've toiled in poverty long enough, Arion. It's high time Thracia carved itself a future! A future, I might add, which depends on the outcome of the game laid before us..."

When the issue is famine, it's hard not to wonder how much feeding a dragon needs compared to an ordinary horse. Sure, they are fictional creatures, but the general understanding of animals is that the bigger they are, the more food they need to sustain themselves.

I do wonder if Southern Thracia has wild dragons too or if they are all domesticated. Because it's hard to imagine they could survive down here when food is so scarce.

Of course narratively speaking it's convenient that the Thracian mercenaries have dragons, so that they can easily appear wherever the plot needs them to be. Plus, it's also just another take on the sibling dragon knights concept from FE1.

So is Hoshido vs Nohr just the worse sequel to Leonster vs Thracia? Hell, Thracia's king even kills his enemy counterpart in an ambush and kidnaps - sorry, adopts - their child afterwards.

Then uses the kid as a bomb, which seems like a waste of effort if you ask me.

Of course, if anything looks at least mere conceptually like an idea with some promise in modern Fire Emblem, it's always already been done better either pre-Elibe or in the Saga series.
No matter how badly it was done to begin with, they will rise to the challenge and somehow find a way to do it much worse.

And finally, Blume is back, but left his Mjölnir tome somewhere. HMMMM. Instead, he's carrying the fourth Bolting tome on the map - we'll see how threatening he'll be with it.

I do appreciate how after his first defeat, he doesn't come back any stronger and instead is now a mere shadow of his former self.

Also puts the power of the divine weapons into perspective.

  3. The fated day has finally come. Freedom Planet 2, the sequel to the hypest video game ever made is finally on the Switch.
Over here, anyway. Seems like it's timezone based. Once the clock strikes midnight, it should be hype o'clock.

Admittedly it's not quite as hype as the first one, but I suppose that would have been impossible. After all, in Freedom Planet 1 every single level was designed to feel like the final stage compared to what came before it. So you have this ridiculous hype slope that keeps reaching new highs all the way until the end credits.

Freedom Planet 2 is simply not structured like this. The sheer number of levels alone would probably have made that impossible. Instead levels are grouped into smaller arcs. It's more standard in that regard, I suppose.

(which I think is possible? Other than Seliph, she has 0/0 love base/growth with everybody, which makes me think that she might cannot fall in love outside of the Seliph jealousy bug, but I don't think I ever read anything to that effect.)

Sure, she can. She still gets the same 5 points when adjacent to a male character as everyone else. It just takes really long, starting all the way at 0 and no additional way to boost them.

Out of curiosity, I checked the wiki if Ares has any convos with Leaf. Nope. And really, all Ares needs to complete his Astrea cosplay is a Paladin wife with blue hair and awful stats.

Truly the 2nd coming of the iconic trio.

To her credit, Lene/Leylia acknowledges that when she promises to Ares to not run her mouth again.

I just mean that it we really need to have this cringe scenario, it would be a nice change of pace if the damsel gets to face it with her head held high.

One thing people give Gen 2 Lewyn credit for is that he doesn't mince words. He's... not quite as good at that as Thracia 776's brilliant main advisor, but he's getting there. Certainly beats Malledus.

The constant improvements of the advisor is really nice. I mean, we went from Malledus to Jagen to Levin to August until we finally arrived at nirvana with Eugen.

Since I just acknowledged a good thing about Fates, I think I'll balance it out by saying that, thus far, I'd still take the non-character that is Seliph over the actively detriment that is Corrin. At least Deirdre didn't pen a letter to Julia that she's secretly the daughter of Deirdre's good friend and non-relative (and Julia's combination of Holy Bloods is, er, divine intervention, stop asking questions already).

If you actually commit to the incest, I can at least respect it.

Considering this scene starts with Leen being all "Yeah, I suppose this is about what I'd expect from you", it feels awkward for her to lose her composure so quickly.

Bramsel is dangerous if you don't pay attention, but he's also stationary and locked to 1-range.

A very appropriate low level, which is always nice to see.

Well, he has a higher level than Harold at least. So he is only the 2nd weakest boss in this generation.

  7. Considering that FE3 didn't have the ability to skip dialog yet, I wonder if maybe the dialog in this game is so brief because the devs themselves were not sure if this was a feature that they would be able to implement. Not to mention what the exact limits of saving would be.

I mean, if this was like FE3 and you couldn't skip dialog and maybe couldn't even save between castles... novel-length dialog in the style of Tear Ring Saga might have been not exactly ideal if you end up having to reload once or twice.

Mid-chapter dialog was also pretty much a non-factor in FE3. But it's most certainly a thing here.

  8. Interesting how standard shields seem to have a whooping 20 durability.

I mean, TRS shields were only 4 or less. Berwick Saga shields were not much better, and most would break after the 6th hit.

This also puts them at a durability where they are a good fit for Tallan's new and improved repair skills.

HMtVAkR.png: "...Yeah, I think I get the idea. My sword, please."

Somehow I get the feeling that I am not missing out by not playing Engage.

Frankly, even as a kid I found Lyn's obsession with the self-insert to be just painful to endure. And now that mr. Watanabe Generico is literally a deity, IS doesn't even need to pretend that everyone is worshipping him because of actual merit.

So it seems that that portrait is used for female generals that their lieges are romantically involved with? Although I don't know if Aida's previous relationship with Arvis is actually established in Genealogy.

    It's not.

In all other regards, Ishtore is the more powerful foe, though. A fair bit more bulky, with slightly higher Mag, a more powerful tome for hand-to-hand combat, and of course, Bolting. Oh, and as a War Mage, he has access to the Adept skill, which gives him a chance to randomly kill anybody who he doesn't one-shot to begin with (which, right now, would be Leif, Patty, Nanna, and Lester, although he'd need to use Thoron against the latter two).

Huh, I suppose he could use Continue. Maybe they figured the chance of that happening is neglectable, given the tome's massive weight. Unless they actually did code something in to prevent Continue from triggering for those weapons.

Uh, no it isn't. Lene's and Leylea share the same dialog, barring their exclusive scenes.

  10. Freedom Planet 2... Vestaria Saga I+... So close, yet so far.

Jamulan got some buffs. Multichance (?) and Axe Guard are whatever, but it seems he now also gets a skill that makes all his attacks against armored enemies deal effective damage. Nice to see that it looks like the K-man managed to implement even more genuinely interesting skills.
The remaining skill also seems to be new. Wish I could read the descriptive text.

Also chapter 19 now has both battle preps and the ability to take items from Zade's side. Interesting to see even Eddard listed here.

I'm pretty sure Leinster only has an armoury, even if the enemy takes it and you turn it into a proper blue castle. Can you genuinely return warp all three of Leif's gang to Seliph and mess up the continuity?

It doesn't mess up anything. You are not expected to hold Lenster, with Nanna suggesting you should retreat to the nearby church instead.
And Leaf already has Celice as a Talk listed.

  12. Btw, did you notice that it plays the FE1 player phase theme if you wait in the arena lobby for like 30 seconds?
And the arena battle theme theme is also the version from FE1. It lacks the additional instruments that the FE3 version overlaid.

It's nice that they used the FE1 versions instead of the FE3 ones. In particular I find the FE1 version of the player phase theme to be much more pleasant.

I like how the Magic Ring immediately gives Patty a higher Mag than Str stat. Not great for arenaing, of course, but here's to hoping that stealing from range will make us all rich. For the arena... Hey, the Miracle Sword (and Bargain Band to borrow rings for free, maybe) might still give Patty a good shot.

The thing with the Sleep Sword is that it actually works in the arena. Sure, it would be too expensive to chip down armors with it, but the status actually remains even after you cancel the battle.
Which means that after inflicting sleep, you can simply cancel the battle and continue the fight with a different weapon.

Technically you could have done this the entire time. A battle is only truly reset once you either lose or leave the arena. Until then the enemy fighters won't recover the health they lost.
But there was no real way to take advantage of that until now.

On Leif's end of the long and winding road, the enemies start a bit further away than from Shanan and Patty. Hopefully, they can push out a bit and kills some Brigands - and hopefully, Fee can fly over and help them in the endeavour - but if necessary, the choke point in front of Leonster seems perfectly safe for Finn to block, with Nanna providing healing as needed. I can see how a magic sword would've come in handy for Leaf here, too.

I'm afraid the deflector shields will be quite operational when your Fee arrives.

Besides, you want your sole flier to help out in the desert. You are on the clock there.

No Return Ring. Guess we are not crossing the plot walls this time.
Unless the game decided to place it into the storage, which would be some bad luck. Don't remember if Lenster allows you to access the storage.

Wolfen outspeeds, which also means that Julia doesn't double him, and because Wolfen also one-shots, she'd have to dodge him at least three times - probably more often, since her own effective hit rate through Pavise is only 55%. Julia would need 5 HP procs to avoid being one-shot, so she might be able to improve her odds by reaching that threshold. To outspeed, she'd need +3 Spd, which seems less likely with her 30% growth.

Actually Pavise won't trigger against Nosferatu ever.
No clue why, it just doesn't.

    There might just be.

  15. This is a new portrait too. As is the support partner listed.

I guess if there are dragon knight bosses on the map now, this means the Norden will now be a more active threat.

Gonna need something to make up for the carpet being much more manageable now, I suppose.

It's interesting that Johan seems to be considered a pretty bad character - if you compare him to Lex, he joins at a much higher base level, with appropriately increased stats (generally slightly lower than Lv.12 Lex except for +2 Str for Johan) and gen 2's Brave Axe is available more quickly than Lex's. Johan even has better growths than Lex across the board (except for Lck, oh no!). Not sure if this is just a general sign of power creep for Seliph's army, or if gen 2 is also less kind to axe users than gen 1 (most of the time) was.

Well, you've just seen Oifey die in 3 hits.
    There is also Elite.

Honestly, the rationale behind those two being mutually exclusive isn't much better than the Arran/Samson situation in Akaneia...

No need to take a little comic relief fratricide so seriously.

Also worth noting that since you did Lex/Ayra, this means that the brothers are Lakche's cousins.

I feel like they just had to sort of force it for the sake of the Arran/Samson, because Johan's response to Johalvier's recruitment is totally inline with his characterization while the opposite is wildly out-of-character. I mean, Johalvier's recruitment barely spends a couple lines on the crush, while Johan might as well not have a character outside of it.

Same if you make them fight Dannan here. Johalvier makes no mention of Lakche and lets his distaste for his dad's governing known, while Julian does... well, his thing.
