Sure is too bad that nobody seems to know the name of Kurth's long-lost daughter.

Yeah, but since she is brainwashed anyway, logically she would have had a different name forced on her. Seeing how the name of the missing wife of Lord Sigurd of House Chalphy would hardly be entirely unknown.
That would make more sense. But it would also just needlessly complicate things. So I most certainly don't mind this getting streamlined and everyone going by the names we know them as.

Being stuck for a year in a snow country alongside traitors to the crown, probably.

gEymPhQ.png: "I did return to Grannvale, and I was about to relate the truth to His Majesty. But Reptor interfered before I could do anything, and now I, too, am branded a traitor to the motherland."

This seems so awkward. If he made it all the way to Grandbell, why would he flee all the way here instead of his own territory? This also makes it much less believable that Tiltyu is still sticking around.
Not to mention it's also contrived that it was apparently specifically Reptor who stopped Claude from reaching the king. Alvis is the guy who acts as the king's right hand. Keeping letters or visitors away from the king would be his job. But of course Sigurd can't know yet that Alvis is part of the conspiracy, or he would toss out the invite to his BBQ.

I would say that it's much easier to imagine that Claude simply recognized the writing at the wall and realized that with Reptor and Langobalt in Augustria, he was not going to make it back to the capital, so he joined the trip to Silesia. For Tiltyu being suddenly confronted by a huge army lead by her dad must have been scary too. So I could see her sticking around for the time being.

Remarkably fatalistic, compared to everybody else's more encouraging speeches.

From here on out Claude will keep alluding to the fact that he got some bigger spoilers from the tower than he said. Though he will only directly state so in a conversation with Aideen if she is his wife.
Also that convo is one of only two ways to get the Rescue Staff in Gen 1. The other one is Aideen getting it from Azel if they are married in chapter 4. ...but since it's an A rank staff, it's actually quite hard to pass down in that case.

This is a bit of an easter egg, since it's not a Talk command and thus doesn't show up in the unit list, either. Apart from giving the player a headache, it also adds a few love points for Sylvia/Lewyn, and even fewer for Erin/Lewyn.

Maybe it's done that way since Sylvia already has a convo with Claude listed.

In any case it's interesting how despite the story pushing Levin and Fury so hard, in gameplay Sylvia is heavily favored. Almost as if that couple is meant to be your punishment if you don't keep Sylvia away from Levin.

  2. 18 minutes ago, ping said:

Looking at it, Lewyn should also easily hit Lv.20 in the opening arena section, so that's another character who would appreciate a healing staff. And Raquesis wouldn't mind upgrading her Heal, too, since she'll hopefully promote on turn 0, or at least very early in the chapter, too, allowing her to basically work as Ethlyn 2.0.

    Also Fury.

    Even Tiltyu, eventually.

You're also seeing the inventory she will leave with, grabbing the Pursuit Band for Leif and losing the Mend staff. I don't think that one matters all that much, with Lana potentially starting with Recover and Nanna definitely starting with Mend.

But you also just got a new healer. You could most certainly do with more heal staffs.

So I was correct about the "one Holy Weapon bearer per generation" rule after all. I assume this means that Balmung would be exclusive in Gen 2 even with a Holyn/Ayra pairing producing sword twins with major Odo blood?

Well, in the old patch this was phrased as an assumption rather then a certainty.

In any cases, it's impossible to trade those weapons. So without glitches, it's gonna stick with whoever starts with it.

...which funnily enough means that there ended up being no practical reason to code those weapons to require holy blood in the first place. Because there is simply no way to get those weapons on someone who doesn't have the matching holy blood in the first place.

Yewfelle is a bit of an odd one. It only gives a total of +20 stat points, as opposed to almost every other Holy Weapon giving +30, and while Str and Spd certainly are very good stats to get that +10 bonus on, the latter is counteracted by the Yewfelle's high weight compared to other bows. But hey, Bridget also gets Renewal! Sure is a great skill for a ranged unit to have...

So yeah, it seems to be on the weaker side as far as Holy Weapons are concerned, but it's still a bow with effectively 40 Mt. A bit inaccurate, as non-Killer bows all are, but Bridget has excellent Skl to make up for tha

Continuing the trend of Ulir just kinda drawing the short stick among the crusaders.

Taillte is a bit more successful, killing Doma with a hit + Wrath!crit (while outspeeding), but Keller survives a crit and one-shots, ending her run. Maybe it would've been possible to find a RNG seed for Taillte to dodge two 68s, but that would've been rather annoying to search for, especially outside of the easy save scumming on turn 0.

Eh, just keep trying until it works. Tiltyu is funny like that.

  4. If Sunny were to disable the anti-magic cone now, would Bloodfeast turn back into a tiny lizard? Not sure how a Beholder's anti-magic cone interacts with polymorph spells. But it seems like it doesn't actually permanently dispel magic effects. It merely suppresses them inside it's area of effect.

In any case, I don't think Calder is gonna turns this around right now. Sure, the Order members are all damaged enough that another fire breath could be used to justify taking out most of them. But since he already used it twice, that would just be really lame in terms of writing.

  5. These days the gap between Lost Age and Dark Dawn seems quite small compared to the gap between Dark Dawn and now.

Really brilliant that Camelot ended Dark Dawn the way they did. Pretty much ensuring there would never be another Golden Sun, because any possible sequel would have to deal with the baggage left behind by that terrible 2010 game.

I suppose with the blond hair and the headband, she is quite a good match for Bridget. Some epic foreshadowing there that Bridget would pick up swordfighting down the line.

Calling it an "honorary duel" and then in the very next line announcing that you got a divine weapon of legend. Come on, man.

Anyway, shame that Cuan never gets to interact with him in any way.

Eldigan's last memento is a strong, very expensive weapon. Its 10k price tag is in the same ballpark as other special swords - but because the Earth Sword only has 10 uses as opposed to literally every other sword's 50, it costs 1000 gold to stab an enemy with it, which is exactly as expensive as using one of the legendary swords.

Not to mention once a weapon's durability runs out, it will turn into a broken weapon that will absolutely tank the user's avoid. Especially considering that negative avoid is a thing here. So not really a weapon you can go on a big Nosferatu-tanking rampage with.

I suppose if one were to go for it anyway, it might actually work better on someone who doesn't have Pursuit.

Ethlyn it is, then. I'm sure Leif will appreciate the Silver Blade. (well, honestly, I'm not really certain he will, no idea how his accurady looks, but it *is* a strong weapon, and Leaf comes with an A-rank, so he can inherit it)

Yeah, but it's probably not the best on someone with only a mediocre skill stat.

The "vaguely cursed weapon" trope is one that I honestly don't like very much. Can't really point my finger to why that is; maybe I just don't like this very obvious "HE GONNA DIE!!!" flag (or, in BlaBla's case, "HEY REMEMBER HOW HECTOR FUCKING DIES IN BINBLA") that these weapons set.

To be fair, the fact that a 2nd generation exists at all puts that flag on everyone.
It's not about if everyone dies. It's how they are gonna die.

    2 hours ago, ping said:

The Gáe Bolg is, obviously, incredibly powerful, increasing Str, Skl, and Def by +10 each. It's a bit too late for Quan, at least to do much more than clear the rest of the arena with it, but it's a nice little apératif for the holy weapons yet to come.

It's also heavier than standard spears. And considering that it's also less accurate than standard swords, that +10 skill bonus is somewhat misleading. It's not like it grants the Critical skill, like Eldigan's sword.

But of course extra strength is really nice, since all those weapons have 30 might. So getting a strength boost makes them effectively stronger than the average holy weapon.

"Escape"? This is a "I'm not trapped in here with you, you're trapped in here with me" moment if I ever saw one. Just be glad this is not Berwick Saga and bows don't get 1 range attacks. This way at least some of you might survive. What's left won't be much of a pirate gang, though.

gEymPhQ.png: "Ah, of course. Let us go."

You can tell the issue with the Aum staff nagged at them. Who cares about all those sad plot deaths when we got a staff that can resurrect the dead?
It's a fun game mechanic, but it's existence does have implications to the actual world the game takes place in.

This time they clearly establish that there are rules that prevent you from resurrecting just whoever you want. But they won't actually explain what those rules are. So no one can claim foul that the staff isn't used to resurrect Prince Kurth, for example. That one would solve a lot of problems right now.

Bridget's base stats are still respectable considering her joining time. Her combat is basically better than Midir's in every way (except that he currently holds the Killer Bow and she does not), although the other promoted characters still outdo Bridget. But considering that she joins at a pretty low level, that's still not too bad.

It's a nice detail that with the holy blood removed, she has mostly identical growths to her twin sister. Just with the strength and magic growths swapped.

Also Luck. But having Major Ulir means Briggid has overkill Luck anyway, so this might have been why her personal luck growth is only 10%.

Taillte is going to hook up with Lewyn, for the simple reason of Early Forseti. The downside is that she'll have two children with very high Spd but no Pursuit skill, and I'm currently leaning towards sending the Pursuit Ring to Leif. But Arthur at least should have very good chances of proccing one of Lewyn's +damage skills with Forseti, with start-of-turn RNG abuse if necessary.

Shouldn't be much of a problem. Leaf will get Pursuit after his class change, at which point he no longer needs the ring.

Eh, I'd rather she both sides it than blamed Chagall specifically. After all, what the hell would she know about the intricacies of what's going on and how rationale or realistic Chagall's decisions are. I can only imagine her Cross Knight boyfriend was a real Eldigan fan and constantly shit talked Chagall to her.

The Cross Knights probably shittalk him all the time. I mean, he had their lord imprisoned for no reason. That's gotta be enough to piss them off.

And I would also guess that the regular knights are less inclined to forget about the fact that this almost lead to Eliot taking over Nordion than their leader is. They might even feel a sense of gratitude for Sigurd protecting their princess when they couldn't.

Eldigan himself is pretty OP, of course. I'm sure it's possible to beat him without Raquesis pushing him to do really stupid things, but 52 Atk, 24 Def, and 30 Res signal very loudly that there's a non-violent solution to this mountain of stats.

His sword also gives him the Critical skill. Which means he has a 38% chance to hit you with 104 attack.

  9. "Too bad dad's not here to see you FAIL!"

"I'll do you fast, Peppy old pal."

Kinda funny how Star Wolf started out with only 4 members, considering they were designed for Star Fox 2 where Star Fox had 6 members.
But I suppose back then they weren't matched up against specific members of the Star Fox team. And you had to beat them all with the 2 pilots you chose.

Just for the record, yes this conversation does go differently if you wait to visit this village until later.

It's kinda like a reverse version of the old man in the house near the start in the Ordon map in Vestaria Saga. If you visit early, he kills himself while cursing your name. But if you don't visit the house and manage to get the Ordon to stand down, he won't kill himself and even give you a Claymore.

Azel grabs the one village (while he's gotten the Bargain Band, that isn't worth much if he doesn't have *any* money). The other one has the Restore staff, so that should go to either Raquesis or Aideen. Honestly not sure which one is "correct" here - Raquesis is more likely to be close to the frontlines, but keeping it on Aideen will make sure that we'll get it back immediately for gen 2.

It's also B rank staff. So Nanna can't actually inherit it unless her father is Claude.

Might also be worth pointing out that the staff has 10 range in this game.

Oh hey, first time we got one of those in the game.

Edit: Wait, I keep forgetting the VS1 guy was shouting about his Wind Sword.

And you can't ignore that Eldigan has a +40 hit/avo aura, either. This entire skirmish honestly seems like it'll be tricky - you'll want to remove Eldigan from the equation as quickly as possible, but that isn't easy, either, with him being at the back of his mooks, and with Raquesis not exactly being the most bulky character we have. It might be possible to kite the group a bit to whittle down their numbers, but I wouldn't be surprised if I'll struggle a bit with this part of the fight.

I never went for this, but maybe it's possible to have Lachesis survive enemy phase by putting all her weapons into the storage before talking to Eldigan so that she automatically equips the Earth Sword.

  11. I suppose if we count debuffs, there was Märchen giving his allies -50 hit and avoid in a 3 tile radius, because no one can stand being near him.
Taken to the next level later in the game, where this skill is also on some opportunistic NPC "allies" who insist that you need help in finishing off the broken, battered and bleeding remains of Ernst's forces. And the effect stacks too.

Barzelphen is similar, with his terrible cologne being distracting to people, resulting in a 15% accuracy penalty.
Though funnily enough, when he strikes a conversation to Nelke, she is so desperate to get away from the smell that she both gets a permanent movement boost as well as immunity to all status effects.

  12. Expert Mode does a lot of cool things. But I hate how you lose your wing after crashing into something only once. Overall though, it's a really well put together hard mode, with all kinds of new obstacles being placed in levels instead of it being a matter of simply tweaking damage numbers.

Venom 1 is also just a beautiful hell on Expert Mode. Those rapidfiring enemies they placed in particular. Very tricky to avoid with all the other obstacles in the way. And getting hit will shake your Arwing up so much, you will likely crash into said obstacles.

Shouzou Kaga when he's in a misogyny competition and his opponent is Atlus: 🤯

Well, if the question is if a woman is capable of getting people to follow her...

-Celica lead an army across seas, deserts and swamps all the way to a battle with an evil god.
-Midia lead an rebellion of Akaneian loyalists against Hardin.
-Also, can I just say that I love how Levin and Joshua are practically the same character, except Joshua's mom begs him for forgiveness for supposedly being a terrible mother, while Levin's mom remorselessly tears into him for being an irresponsible shithead. She's awesome.
-Despite being an outsider, Eyvel nevertheless became the head of Fiana and created an extremely capable militia and beat the local bandits into behaving.
-Linoan lead Tahra in an valiant struggle against the overwhelming forces of the Freege.
-Silva is the leader of the Black Knights. Very much one of the most dreaded fighting forces in Lieberia.
-Alvina's leadership makes her apparently capable of turning "ordinary men" into the most terrifying opponents in the entire game.
-After the complete breakdown of the Western front, Lynette was able to turn the whole situation on it's head by rallying the people of Western Veria into her new army and beat back the empire.
-Sienna was able to get Duke Roswick and Reese to finally take action against the king and lead them to perform an operation to rescue Duke Bernard from Berwick Island. She is also the one who leads the Berwick League in the aftermath of Narvia's invasion and set the whole groundwork for a lasting peace.
-By all accounts Kay was also doing a good job leading the Highlanders against the empire.
-Hoelun rallied the whole Nyman League in rebellion against their leader and became their new Leaguemaster in just a few days.
-Arielle got the people holding her hostage to not only let her go, but also follow her in infiltrating a fortress, team up with General Paulos, sabotage their siege equipment and consequently completely turn the tables of her brother who had Reese and his escort dead to rights. She also lead another successful military operation later on, this time in more official capacity.
-On the other end of the competence spectrum, even Athol seems to start figuring out that whole leadership thing. Getting the Meledian nobles to accept a mere Count as chancellor and getting away with announcing that she will take the throne of Meleda once she turns 18.

  14. Definitely the complete overkill support bonus that Barzelphen gets from Benette. Really showing off the Power Of Love there.

Honorable mention goes to Salyna getting a strong boost from the Holydrake Bertoullia herself. Because that does not exist because of Salyna but because Salyna's mount Fernando has a crush on Bertoullia. And that whole thing is just really adorable. Admittedly it's hard for something involving Berti to not be adorable, but still.

Not in this game, he didn't.

Of course the only reason the Gatekeeper was even noteworthy is because he is an NPC. A rare sign that modern Fire Emblem features human life outside of the avatar and his small group of worshippers.

Not exactly something that makes you stick out in Berwick Saga, where Navaron is populated with dozens of green guys. Not just your usual assortment of shopkeepers, furniture merchants and Erzheimers, but quite a few don't even offer any service, like those prison guards. Or the tavern owner. You can't buy any drinks from him, but people still always come by just to insult the place because they are charming like that.
