  1. alright then I attached the WIP patch to the post, the ROM requires a header, furthermore make sure you don't patch a J2E-patched rom, must be original japanese

    I'd like to hear some comments and critiques about it if I could, lemme know what you think guise

    additionally I may be going back and editing the first and second chapter maps eventually since I figured out how to edit events well enough (second chapter still has too much walking)

    oh and by the way, if you come across any untranslated dialogue text (other than items dropping or breaking) be a neighbor and make a savestate for me so I can go in and rewrite it, and of course provide me with any errors and stuff I also need to correct

  2. I'd ask if you could do something or two for FE4 for my own hack but unfortunately data for it is hard to come by/nonexistent/japanese and I don't know if you'd deal with going into it

  3. I actually managed to find the unused soldier animations in the game, but unfortunately they're unusable since there are no soldier sprites

    I checked every sprite sheet the game allowed and they're not there, or if they are, there's no pointers to them, too bad though

    for these animations I just gave them sniper sprites since they're the closest analogue

    as you can see, they hold the shields and move the lance just like they do in FE5

    additionally there are some awkward animations that don't seem finished, not sure what they were used for

    they fit swordmaster/swordfighter sprites, but it's more likely they were meant for another class; swordmaster animations and sprites take up a lot of different bytes despite them all being the same, so I'm guessing they used that class as a baseline to fool with stuff

    maybe 32 and 33 due to being right after soldiers were meant to be their promoted class

    one thing to try is to see if the sword and axe animations are still in FE5 (they probably are)

    that's all from me for now although there are a few things I could add to this topic but I have forgotten what I've done since/I'm feeling lazy

  4. after owning the game for like two years or so (I got bored with it part-way and stopped playing) I finally finished it! I've played FE3 before but not FE1, I recognized a lot through the game along with subtle changes (I still like a lot of the original fanslated names)

    overall the game's kinda bland after being spoiled from the series' improvements over the years; the dialogue is sparse, there's little to no events on the map, reinforcements are cheap, there's no character development, the maps are kinda poorly designed, and enemies have no evasion or resistance (and well neither do you)

    I believe they intended the game to be faithful to the original (except for the weapon triangle, weapon ranks, save points, forged weapons, dead characters returning items, reclassing, other things that break the original game's design) but I guess it's okay

    my first playthrough was on Hard 1, here's a simple table of my used characters for anyone's curiosity

    there's something funny about est running around with starlight

    also I made maria that class for flying about with levin swords (and a forged ishtar sword)

    I might play through again but I dunno the game's kinda dull, I should probably get back to work on my hack

  5. why does everyone always start with a few bandit chapters? why does it always have to be bandits? why not villagers that are being controlled by a group of soldiers or a misguided vigilante group? why always the fucking bandits?

  6. Ah I see no Holy weapons eh? aww :( well still sounding great I have not even seen all the personal equip and S rank weapons you have added yet many of the animations are quite well done for the spells I still love that Burst spell quite awesome

    I renamed it to Storm because I changed the C-rank one to Spark (due to actually changing the animation)

    I might end up changing that one too but I might not because I like the effects I ended up with

    also it only seems like a lot of magic users since FE never gave that many so quickly, you just get them all first in my hack before the physical ones

    in the end the ratio is 14 physical characters, 10 magical

  7. very cool. But I am curious of this hack how are you planning on making the Holy Weapons work in this game? since Lamia is the main character no Tyrfing for her I`m guessing most that will be received are magic based equip since about 90% of the team are mages (which is fine magic is broken to begin with) anyway yeah magic and lots of it I suppose.

    there's nothing like 'Holy Weapons' or anything like that, just personal weapons/items and S-rank legendaries (which will be pawnable of course but expensive)

  8. The ballista I imagine are okay, especially if I don't care about having them, and the 3 different gold amounts I just noticed use the same icon, so there's pretty much no point in changing it anyway. Still, I'd like to know for the ballista ones at least.

    or... you can just change the icons (iirc the nightmare module allows it)

    problem is that I haven't found anything yet resembling locations of where the addresses for graphics and crap starts, I only worked from one that happened to mention a single address... but yes I managed to insert this from some portraits deep in their files

    stay tuned on a step-by-step to insert these, but I still need to figure out the addresses...

  10. actually I think you may be right about that happening, I think it happened to me, I'm unsure how to fix it yet

    guess if I can't get it to work I'd be able to make lethality, I can't use it the way I want if I add aether in, oh well

    for the record, I just noticed that awareness doesn't block light/dark sword

  11. it may be the fact you use the english patch, since I just use j2e's patch

    make sure there's free space starting from 5FFC0 to 60100-ish, it might've been taken up by text

  12. I tried using the sword skills patches (all of them and each of them separately) and while I got them to work I had some issues too. For example Lex who only has Ambush and Elite was using Luna and Sol. The enemies were using them too. Is this suppose to happen?

    sounds like the patches have overwritten something they weren't supposed to, what ROM and patches have you used?

    also, the patch choice needs to be only one at a time, not all of them

    your ROM also needs to have a header

    and did you happen to mess with the skill table?

  13. Sword skills

    I've had a look through the sword skill patches, they're a little complicated. Rather than confuse myself by trying to reverse engineer them, I'll just upload them. They seem to make a few changes across the ROM, particularly at around $060000.

    A lets multiple sword skills activate

    B I believe lets them activate on other weapons, although I could be wrong

    C I forget what it does, maybe it's not B

    I found out what each of the patches do with some reading and testing

    you were correct with A, but it also does allow for any weapon type to use the sword skills

    B turns light sword into a combination sol/luna, kind of like aether, but only one hit

    C turns light sword into 'true' aether, activates sol and luna in separate attacks

    B and C use the A patch of multiple activation and any weapon

    all of the patches also make it easier to change the attack/defense bonus of light/dark sword (although obviously if you choose to use aether then you can't use light sword anymore)

    for some reason patch C has luna activate before sol, so to make it like the original, change these bytes to the one on the right:

    $060059:17 → 3F

    $06005E:3A → 12

    I'll probably use aether for my hack, yeah
