  1. Yes, eating grass is so practical.
  2. Pretty sure that was the Zidane moment of this cup. Except less awesome.
  3. My fault. I posted to an article about gay exorcisms as an example of people using religion to justify terrible things, someone said "lol I'm Catholic we're nice to gays" and that's how it got off.
  4. Not really. I expected Holland to win but I had no emotional ties to it. As someone tweeted: "SPORTS: Congratulations to Iniesta who decided to kick the ball into the goal, rather than fall down and grab his leg."
  5. At this point I feel like Germany and Uruguay deserve the Cup and second place. What a shitty ass game. Bad fouls, bad dives, bad reffing. It's a recipe for fucking disaster.
  6. It. is. not. trivial. People say over and over that marriage is religious, and IT'S NOT. They use that line of reasoning to deny people the right to marry whoever they choose. IT'S ALWAYS BEEN SEPARATE. Religious idiots have been merging the two for a very long time. Even if you have a wedding, you're not married until you fill out the legal paperwork. It's ALWAYS been separate. ALWAYS. That's my motherfucking point. It's not minor semantics. I mean it's obvious you don't understand what you're talking about because you're babbling on about civil unions, which even if they're applied to everyone they're a step BACKWARD. Civil unions are recognized only in the state they're given with (with few exceptions) whereas marriages offer more benefits to partners and are recognized nationally and internationally. So no, civil unions aren't the answer. Marriage is.
  7. Not that we haven't seen anything different in this topic, but this should add to the hilarity.
  8. I'm not upset, and that's anything but minor. If people are going to try to use religion to withhold rights from people, they need to at least understand what the fuck they're talking about.
  9. Hey I lived there for four years. Also I don't have a penis.
  10. Have I mentioned lately how much I hate people? I saw one of those on Twitter a while back and I laughed because five minutes after the girl posted something like that she was like, "YOU GUYS ARE ONLY SUPPORTING THEM FOR THE BLOWJOBS!!!!!" Well... yeah?
  11. GO GERMANY! THAT IS THE TEAM I KNOW! THAT IS THE TEAM I LOVE! My heart is literally bursting with happiness. Uruguay played a great game. Germany played an amazing game, especially considering they were down four of their greatest players! I wish Klose at least would have been in. Hopefully there's another World Cup left in him. I'm so freaking happy right now. I am so proud of my country!
  12. BEAUTIFUL GOAL. Nice job to Schweinsteiger as well! EDIT: I feel like Germany would be thrashing Uruguay if we had all our players. Uruguay isn't doing poorly by any stretch of the imagination, but I mean... Germany is holding up pretty well considering the circumstances.
  13. Apparently Podolski, Lahm, and Klose are all sick and aren't playing... EDIT: Neuer is out too...
  14. First off, that's one parish, and it's certainly not the Vatican. So, nice try. New York is pretty well-known to generally be openly GLBT-supportive. Their religion has nothing to do with it. And wrong. WEDDINGS are a religious practice. MARRIAGE was around long before the church came into the picture. It started out as a transfer of property. What property? The wife. A marriage is a contract. A wedding is a religious service. No one's asking for gay weddings (though I imagine some gays want weddings, but that they'd have to do on their own, just like anyone else), as that would be against the whole freedom of religion thing. They're asking to be allowed to enter into a contract (which is what a marriage is) as two consenting adults. There's a distinct difference there, and most people who are "against" gay marriage don't know it because they're too busy listening to the scare-mongering bullshit their priest yammers on about instead of actually doing research for themselves. Giving gays the right to marry gives gays their rights and doesn't infringe upon a religion's beliefs either.
  15. I found this on a friend's Facebook, and thought of this topic: EDIT: I thought it was slightly amusing they used the same example as I did.
  16. I hate to burst your bubble, but the Catholics aren't any nicer to gays.
  17. No, it's a stupid assumption made from someone who obviously doesn't know any atheists. You're the one being naive here because you obviously have no idea what you're talking about. MGS summed it up perfectly, but I will say this: It is because I'm an atheist that I fight so hard for human rights. I fight hard for human rights BECAUSE this is the only life we have and as such I want people to be able to live their life to the fullest. That's why I support LGBT rights and the rights of women. That's why I support helping the poor. I don't kill. I don't murder. And it's no easier for me to see a human being or animal hurt because I don't believe in God. Because I am an atheist, I AM THE MASTER OF MY OWN LIFE. I am responsible for my actions as well as the consequences. I don't have anyone to blame if I do wrong but myself. Morality has nothing to do with God unless you want it to. Morality is more about social contracts. Anyone who thinks that atheists are as you describe are idiots, plain and simple. To argue that we are less moral because we don't believe in a magical fairy that will fix all our problems and doesn't, doesn't make me a barbarian, or anyone else I know. The atheists I know are the kindest, gentlest, most humane people I know... And yet I see Christians exorcising gay people, I see them fighting against love, touting the sanctity of marriage without knowing anything about marriage and while their representatives are getting divorces out the ass. I see them fighting against women's rights, telling women where they should be. I see racism. I see hatred. Are all Christians like that? No, and a thousand times no. But I don't see any atheist telling me gays deserve going to suffer because of who they are. I don't see any atheist saying that he or she isn't to be held responsible for denying his or her diabetic daughter medical treatment. And you're going to tell me that atheists don't know a damn thing about morality, that we're more likely to be brutal because we don't share your beliefs. Bullshit. Seriously, just shut up until you know what the fuck you're talking about.
  18. Statements like these are exactly how I know you don't have a goddamn clue what you're talking about.
  19. I'd like to add this to the table of evidence: The True Story of a Gay Exorcism There's no way a just God would allow this to happen or encourage it, as these people claim.
  20. I do think Mueller would have made all the difference. I was hoping, however, that they wouldn't need him. Spain surprised me by actually coming to play this time. I hadn't seen that from them all tournament. I think Holland will win. Like you said, Holland doesn't wait for counterattacks. They're going to be there to kick your ass off the bat, not wait for you to screw up. Which results in them screwing up, which Spain doesn't handle nearly as well as Germany does. So I think Spain will have less of a chance than Germany would have had. Either way, it'll be the first time for either team, so we'll have a new Cup winner. Germany should get third place.
  21. I think he was speaking as if to say, "If this is true, then this must be as well."
  22. Yeah, thanks for rubbing it in. Not like it hurts like hell enough already considering that team is my heart and soul or anything. Had the Germans played like the Germans, they would have won. But they didn't. And Spain managed to pull themselves together. They deserved the win. Go Holland...
