X & Y made it easier to get shiny thanks to Horde battles, Pokemon safaris, Chain Fishing and Poke radar chain. For example, I recently caught a Shiny Geodude in a horde. But this brings me to a point you've made. Since it was a horde battle, I had to face 5 pokemon with only one being shiny. I make one faint, then they start using magnitude. I got a stroke of luck and the shiny one was the only one left alive, but he could easily have been KOed by the other ones.(I also read somewhere that someone found a Shiny Graveler, which then proceeded to self-destruct). In older gens, I did receive a DS Action Replay and used it to get me some shinies. However, I never traded any of the Shiny i've caught that way, it was mainly a way to entertain myself by having my favorites shinies in-game(owning the elite 4 with shiny Rayquayza is cool)

Just ran some calc. A offensively invested dedenne + shuca berry has 62.5% to be 1HKO by a jolly Garchomp. Becomes 100% after Stealth rock or if Garchom uses a sword dance or has Choice Band/life orb. Only a max HP, max Def Dedene + shuca berry is going to survive a Earthquake(or you can have a mega garchomp that sword dance and one shot it with EQ after Stealth rock). As a comparison, even a max Attack Dedenne can't 2HKO a garchomp with Play Rough. If he all its investment in defense to survive it, he even has chance to fail to 3HKO a non-invested Garchomp. As for 'it's ok to have 1 non-comp cause the rest if the team is strong', well you basically start 1 pokemon short when facing someone with 6 great pokemon. You may win some battle because of better strategy, but being 5v6 will detriment you in the long run. What's the matter with the movepool?

The only stat it has that is decent is speed. And his movepool and ability are unremarkable. It's gonna faint as soon as one of the top tier pick happen to sneeze at it. Let's not forget EQ is one of the most used move in serious moveset. And we're not even counting the mega evos.

The reason why I think counter is not useful at all for the player is that you usually want to take the less damage possible. So if you build with high defense or avoid, counter is nearly useless. I think you're better using skills that makes you tougher to kill or lets you hit harder.

Don't even have a Xbox. Seriously, the only platforms I own are Nintendo consoles. Most of them were bought as gifts and I don't have the cash to buy my own system except for a portalble one like the 3DS because I'm a poor, unemployed university student. I guess that I could save for it, but when your only income that's not immediately used for school is in the form of birthday/Christmas gift, it's difficult to buy a new system when there's tons of books and games for the system that you already have that you want to buy. And I also want a Wii U( because I cannot wait to play 'X', Xenoblade's successor. Just to prove how much I love this game, my screensaver is the Title Screen of Xenoblade, music included. Probably one of the most beautiful title screen I've seen). Maybe I'll see a PS3 for sale somewhere. More on topic, I've already mentioned Metroid, but only the Prime series. The rest of the franchise also has some good tunes. Except Other M, you don't want to even go near Other M. The only piece of music that isn't horrible in this game is the Ridley theme. Also these guys make podcasts where they provide a lot of musical insight on different video game soundtrack. They even did one on Fire Emblem.

Your Safari was useful to me. It has combees which are usually a pain to get(especially a female one) that I used as a sweet scent user for EV training. The Vivillon is still nice for the region pattern.
